Hey all,
I have an HTC Evo 4G with Sprint which I flashed to CM7 (CyanogenMod-7.0.3.1-Supersonic) and I am having GPS problems. I have tried every fix I have found on the internet and none of them worked.
If I open Google Navigation, the "Waiting for Location" box pops up and never goes away. I have tried the following:
1. Complete nandroid backup of my CM7 setup.
2. Wiped cache, dalvik, system, all user data.
3. Flashed a rooted stock Sense ROM (I used the stock gingerbread USC version)
4. Used MSL reader app to obtain MSL. (free market app)
5. Opened the Sense dialer and did ##GPSCLRX# - Entered MSL - Rebooted as prompted
6. Booted back into Sense ROM. Opened the Google Maps app. Allowed it to lock on to my location, this took a few seconds. Exited Maps app.
7. Rebooted into recovery. Restored the nandroid backup I made of my CM7 setup.
8. Booted into CM7. Tested Maps app and it locked on to my exact location after a few seconds. Went for a short drive and tested the navigation app which also worked fine.

and this one, the first one on Google: forum.cyanogenmod. com/topic/17411-evo-gps-fix/ several times, as well as other fixes (including that one with GPS Status, resetting GPS data, etc) which I can't locate again.
Can anybody help me get GPS working? I really love CM7 and would also love not to have to switch to another ROM just because I can't get my GPS to work.

If you actually read ANY of the CM7 threads, there are A LOT of people with this issue. Some people can fix it by doing the gpsclrx trick, others can't. IT'S A BUG WITH CM7, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, USE ANOTHER ROM.
And PLEASE post this question in the CM7 thread!!!! There is NO NEED to make a new thread for something that has ALREADY BEEN ASKED a hundred times.
I am in the same boat as you are. I was using Fresh for a long time, but lately I have really been enjoying some of the features that CM7 has. Some people have been saying they are having good luck with the recent nightlies, but I have yet to try them.
Good luck to you, and if GPS is truly a deal breaker, I recommend trying out Fresh EVO.
No GPS on reboot for any Gingerbread Roms.
I'm having, what sounds like, the same issue. For the last 7 months I've been running Fresh Evo 3.5.0.1. Nice rom, but it hasn't aged well (started to lag significantly). Anyways, I've recently been looking around for a good gingerbread ROM. Here are my findings/troubles:
*All gingerbread ROMs give me GPS issues on reboot.
That is to say, after I initially flash the ROM, whether it be CM7 7.0.3.1, Deck's 1.0, MIUI 1.6.3, or the stock 2.3.3 ROMs, GPS does not work. In the case of the AOSP ROMs, the GPS icon in the status bar flickers and then disappears. GPS works after the initial boot after flashing, but upon subsequent reboots stops working.
*For reference, I running the latest radio combo 2.15.00.05.02*
* The problem is not present in the backup I have of Stock 2.1 ROM.
* The problem is not present in the backup of Fresh 3.5.0.1.
* I have tried the ##GPSCLRX# fix from a Sense ROM. It does not work.
* I have tried the GPS Status reset fix. It does not work.
* I have tried flashing restoring a sense backup, flashing the radio combo again, updating the PRL, rebooting, updating profile, rebooting, then flashing a gingerbread ROM. This did not work.
It would seem my phone has a big problem with gingerbread. I'd be very interested to know if anyone else has encountered this, or even resolved this issue. I'm tempted to do the OTA update to see if perhaps it's a custom ROM/Radio problem.
Maybe it is a radio problem and not a gingerbread problem. Does anyone know if it is safe to flash back to 2.15.00.11.19? I'd think because GPS works in 2.1 and 2.2 ROMS that the issue must be with gingerbread and not the radio.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gingerbread is tasty.
Will look into newly creates gps.conf for sticking on reboot

You can try this leaked gps driver:

This is not a flashable zip you have to extract the file.
1. Nandriod Backup
2. Reboot, turn off gps, replace old file in /system/lib/hw/
3. Reboot recovery, wipe cache and dalvik
4. Reboot, turn back on GPS ***OUTSIDE***
5. Report back.
I'll copy everything over in just a little bit. Do you think the driver will only be compatible with MIUI?
EDIT: I should mention that at the moment I'm flashing a fresh version of Fresh 3.5.0.1 to see if the problem persists in all ROMs. Previously I had restored Stock 2.1 and Fresh 3.5.0.1 and the restored ROM had no GPS issues.
EDIT 2: Just confirmed GPS issue is only with Gingerbread ROMs. Brand new install of Fresh 3.5.0.1 picks up GPS signal after reboot.

I got the link from a CM7 thread so it will work with that.
[SOLVED] No GPS on reboot for any Gingerbread Roms.
I am pleased to announce, pending a little more testing, that the GPS issue has been fixed! Thanks goes out to JusticeAA for posting the solution.
I have successfully flashed MIUI 1.6.3 and Deck's 1.0 and have no GPS issues upon reboot. Satellites lock on quick!
Barring some more tests, namely testing the duration of the GPS lock, I believe we have found a permanent fix. This fix should also work on CM7 as Deck's is based off of it, although my guess is it will work on all Gingerbread ROMs.
I would like to add a little more detail to JusticeAA's directions. I had some minor difficulty deleting "gps.supersonic.so," the GPS driver, from the on board memory. In order to view the file, I used ES File Explorer. At first, it would not let me delete the file because of insufficient permissions. This was solved by going to menu>settings>root options>root explorer>Choosing your ROM>Mount file system. Then you can delete the file.
Again, thank you very much. Gingerbread is goooood.

I also recommend ES File Explorer since it is free and allows up to mount the file system.
1. Copy the new driver file to you SD Card
2. Use ES File Explorer, in settings enable root explorer and choose CM ROM, then mount the file system. It will ask for SU permission and you must allow it.
3. Navigate to /system/lib/hw/ and delete gps.supersonic.so
4. Copy the one from your sd card to that same location
5. Proceed to step 3 from previous post
Forgive my absence. I spent yesterday travelling to New York, so I got to spend a good deal of time testing out the GPS. Keep in mind that I'm running Deck's 1.0 with Tiamat 4.0.4 and the GPS app I was used was Google Navigation.
Phone found GPS satellites fast and consistently. Approximately 15 different tries.
When I had the screen on and the Navigation app open, GPS maintained signal. If I turned off the screen but kept the app on, i.e., using only voice navigation, the app would periodically close. Every thirty minutes or so the app would need to be turned on again even though I did not turn it off. Not sure if this is a problem with Deck's specfically or the new driver. Considering it is not a big problem, I'm only going to keep an eye on it. Perhaps it will be fixed in the future.

I have Fresh ROM and while I don't mind it, the battery life sucks and I was really missing the customization that I had made in CM7. I've tried about 4 other AOSP ROMs hoping for some luck, but nothing worked.
I've done the GPSCLRX fix successfully, but as soon as I load an AOSP ROM neither wifi or GPS work.
I'm running an EVO with hardware 0004, latest PRI and PRL
I've tried running CM Nightly 23 (someone said it worked for them) and 30, Salvaged 1.0, some others briefly...
It's frustrating to see that most people solve this after the first GPSCLRX. I don't seem to be borking it up, but I'm not resolving the problem either.
Questions:
Could I be entering the wrong MSL? I used MSL Reader to pull the code.
Is there a better CM build or a different ROM I should try (sense rom or AOSP)?
Am I doomed to live in Sense ROM mediocrity and never truely be hardcore?
What are my next steps?
No, msl reader is pretty spot on. It works. Now, are you on fresh and still no gps? Being a sense rom, it should work just fine. Also, I read that you tried 4 aosp roms, how many sense roms have tried? I use myn warm two point two because off the customization options it offers, have you checked it out?
Have you tried CM6.1? I know it's not the latest thing, but I loved it. I didn't jump on the CM7 bandwagon until around the time nightly 21 came out because I was so happy with CM6. Unless you just have to have Gingerbread, I'd try it out. It's just as stable as Sense ROMs in my opinion.
Have you tried any of the Senseless Sense Roms?

Download GPS Status from the market, let it d/l the GPS Assist data and synch to you sats, then open maps and see if it pinpoints you.
This is what I always do, even on CM7 and maps and Navigation would work perfectly.
blakeboys: Fresh works perfectly, I also tried Elite II and that also worked very well. I like them both, but just not as much as CM.
plainjane: I haven't tried CM6.1, but I may download that tonight and give it a try, I don't believe that I *need* Gingerbread, so I might have better luck with that, thanks for the help!
craigbailey1986:
- Clockwork Recovery -> Wipe Data, Cache, then run Casxxxx_Format_ALL.zip, Flash FreshRom, Flash gapps, Reboot.
- Skip initial setup, Dialer, ##GPSCLRX#, Enter MSL, Forced Reboot.
- Maps, tap My Location, Select random location, Get Driving Directions (Navigation boots), wait for nav to start, exit nav, sit and wait for 5 to 10 minutes, Reboot to Recovery.
- Wipe Data, Cache, run Casxxxx_Format_All.zip, Flash CM23/30, Flash gapps, flash savage kernel, reboot.
- CM boots with GPS on, but no icon in notification bar and can't get location in Maps, same with wireless.
Let me know if I'm missing something, I could be overthinking this or not doing enough...it seemed straightforward though.
HipKat: I'll give that a try if CM6.1 still gives me the issue tonight.
Thanks for everyones help, hopefully one of these things will work.

After you do the Clear GPS thing let it boot the sense ROM and get ONE good lock with say Google Maps. Then switch back to CM7.
I thought letting it get a lock on the Sense ROM would mess it up but it was the opposite. It had to get one or it would not work.
I found WIFI works but was shakey.
Just a dumb question, what is considered a "lock". Like, hitting My Location and making sure it's within so many meters of accuracy, or leaving the app open long enough to send some data back and forth? Just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong.
Just an update, finally got some time to work on my phone and the GPS Status tool seemed to have enabled the GPS and maps is working now. Thanks!

Not working
When i type in ##4772579# the numbers just disappear as soon as I hit the last # symbol. I am running a sense rom. When I type that in I cant hit send or call because it disappears. Anyone run into this?
Another thing to try: flash a different kernel.
On my phone, GPS will not work if I run any SavageZen kernel (v2 and up). Never get the flashing GPS icon in the notification bar, nada. Even tried ##GPSCLRX# and used GPSStatus from the market.
However, GPS works fantastic when I run a Tiamat kernel. No idea why.
Also, after you flash to a sense ROM, get the GPS lock on Google Maps, make sure you leave the GPS on when flashing to recovery to restore Nandroid or flash a new AOSP ROM.

It's supposed to do that... or at least that's what happened when I did it. It should take you straight to the screen that asks for your msl, input it and you'll get a message saying that the phone will reboot in 10 seconds. After it reboots, get a lock in maps and leave GPS on. Then turn the phone off, boot to recovery and nandroid restore - or wipe and flash the new rom. This is how I did it and it worked perfectly.
What rom are you using to do the fix?
My Evo + xda Premium App = This post.
hi there @all
I have a semi serious issue on the Ace (Desire HD)
it is one of the GPS kind of nature
Here is what is going on:
1. GPS worked fine
2. flashed ENG-hboot and it still worked fine
3. then flashed CM6 everything fine
4. CM7 nightlies (fine at first but then broken)
5. CM7 all I flash seems broken (the final 7.0.3 too) and I do not wanna leave CM7 -.-
now GPS seems to be broken, a lock takes >3-4min and the accuracy stays >20m
even the long term under open sky method does not fix it
and even erasing the EFS-Parttions does not fix it either
I tried different radios with their corresponding RIL-files
I tried GPS-Tools and erase A-GPS data and redownload them
nothing seems to fix the problem
the signal of the sats comes in strong and clear but no defined fix appears
my Milestone gets to 4m accuracy in about 15sec and first fix usually in 5-7sec
the bad thing is, that the Desire HD is not usable for navigation this way because Google Nav wants a better fix to use the GPS-Fix
anyone got this problem too? and got it fixed?
No idea, updated mine to Gingerbread using the manual method and GPS stopped working altogether. The GPS icon flashes up in the status bar but no fix, no satellites visible after leaving it for an hour
Tried the A-GPS delete and download with GPS Stauts, also tried GPS Test and nothing sees a single satellite.
Might try putting a the stock 2.2 ROM back on and see if that fixes it. Maybe something to do with an incompatible radio that came with the Gingerbread ROM?
Did you try AngelDeath fix for gps.conf here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953630.
But be carefull, because the zip provided in the link (ftp://xda:[email protected]/) are for ext3 roms, and it will not work as such for ext4 roms.
If you have an ext4 rom, you have to unzip first and then manually with root explorer, copy past the gps.conf file => /etc/ in replacement of the existing one.
Don't forget to give all read/write permissions according to the original gps.conf file.
It works great for me reducing the first acquisition time from 1-2 min down to ~20 sec.
Enjoy
I had to send my DHD back on warranty due to a malfunction gps module. Htc replaced the module and everything has been working perfectly after that! (remember to turn it back to stock before returning it)

Hi,
i've got the same problem i think. Quoting myself from the Leedroid-thread:
---
Only one thing doesn't work properly for me: GPS.
On stock unrooted 1.72 it was fascinating how maps showed my exact (1m off eventually) position immediately when i left the house.
Then rooted, Leedroid (froyo) the same accuracy, tried cm7 rc4: gps-position jumping around, no lock etc. I restored my Lee-froyo-nandroid-backup, but gps stayed broken even after nandroid restore.
Tried cm7 stable again, still gps sucked, so i decided to use ruu 1.32, unrooted, s-on etc, DHD like fresh out of the box. GPS again was working perfect.
Now rooted again (couldn't let my fingers off of it ), used the leedroid 3.02 GB: GPS jumping around again, at least a little bit better, sometimes a 7m accuracy.
I always and ever do a full wipe before i flash a rom, never restore via titanium etc., installing everything fresh from the market. And i use the recommended radios (flashed via the Radio flash tool), check all checksums etc, tried on every rom different radios, fasterfix, gpsfix, loaded a-gps data etc.
Could it be a GB-issue exclusivly for my device as most people seem to have no probs with GPS on this rom or on cm7 stable ...?
---
Meanwhile i tried the new Android Revolution Rom, GPS still didn't work, tried flashing RILs, didn't help either unfortunately.
Currently i try out the new Leedroid and formatted to EXT4, tomorrow i'll try out GPS again.
@Nasobem
i am completely with you on what you say, i remember GPS being spot on when i first got my DHD, since rooting no rom/radio/ril has ever given me consistantly good GPS, i have had days where it seems to work fine, then nothing.. very frustrating..
Very true colonel, it's really frustrating ... An hour ago i was trying out GPS with the newest Leedroid kernel. I've been really excited, because i got a fix inside the house (after 5 minutes waiting time), and it has been very accurate. I went outside with a big grin on my face, took a look on maps and ... nothing, no fix, GPS jumping around even after 2 minutes. Finally a fix on a position 20m off. As a little additional gift from the God of the Smartphones, now when I'm holding my phone to the east, it's showing north sometimes.
It's strange that there doesn't seem to be a solution for our GPS problems as it is working on stock rom ...

Yeah, I can second that. I went as far as soldering the pads on the plastic cover to make sure there's metal that can connect to the prongs/springs. Mine had small black pits in them, probably too thin strips so the prongs weared a hole in them.
I've made a youtube clip on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qm_z65LA8k

cool. where did you get a new gps cover from. i took the cover off a while back and it worked better for a bit, but would like a spare cover if im going to solder it.
GPS is messed up with Gingerbread, I found the problem was the GPS.spade.so file in: system/lib/hw. The only Rom I found to work was the latest cm7 nightly. 80 onward.This has a modified gps file. I'm surprised you're having problems on CM7 maybe try clearing the efs cache;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12764930&postcount=1
Or put the SD card in a card reader and format it. Reinstall Rom doing a full wipe.
PS.noticed you already tried wipe efs. When trying the later nightlys a full wipe is required.I also read a lot of Cm7 users were substituting older GPS files to solve the issue.
thanks i will give it a try, but i can also get a fix when i press the gps cover. mix of problems i guess..
May i ask how to wipe efs data on DHD? I tried AngelDeath's fix and replacing the conf file with another one, but didn't help ?
Can i just use the vision_wipe_efs_01.zip or should i use the dd method (brick risk)?
Thank you

I bought it on ebay (item 140529713185), not the easiest to find unless you search for the "correct" name "gps antenna" yields no items...
They often call it "flash cover" as the camera flash leds shine through it, so variations on that will give you a decent list of items.
Funny, I was just going to open a thread like this one.
I'm on ARHD 5.1.7 and I'm experiencig the same issue as the OP (I used to have the same also previously on ARHD 5.1.3).
GPS doesn't fix at all in google maps, the only workaround aI found to be a little effective is to open GPS status (which takes from 50 to 70 sec to fix anyway) before using google maps, but still the precision remain at 40 m and fix is not very fast.
I tried all the solutions suggested in the question 14 of ARHD first post but with no improvement.
The only thing i wasn't able to do is that, which I understand to be the same solution suggested by michelD

Ok, I figured out by myself and I succeded in overwrite gps.conf using "super manager".
Now the GPS finds 2 more sateliites than before (they were 6, now 8), but the fixing is now worse than before, sometimes taking more than 5 minutes and still I can't get any fix directly into Gmaps.
What amazes me the most is that my previous phone - the wildfire - used to fix a lot faster (no more than 15 sec.).
I've tried several roms now:
CM7.0.3
Stock-rooted Gingerbread (2.36.405.8)
leedroid 2.2.3
Raidroid Stockify 1.72.405.3
I did wipe efs data, wich didn't work, then tried fasterfix, then tried gps status (I read that gps status sometimes can cause trouble)
Sadly none of the roms GPS worked for me, even as close as possible to one of my last working configurations, Raidroid Stockify
Now i went back to original unrooted stock again, made S-ON, just to test it out, this time to 1.72. And GPS still sucks. I'll have to send it in for repair i think.
Something was surprising: When i had shortly (for rooting on s-on-reasons) 1.32 on my DHD, it showed two WLAN, wich none of the roms ever showed (from a large, far away city hall, very weak signal). So it seems that for me the strongest, best reception is on 1.32, wich is the ONLY software that can deal with my obviously bad GPS/Wlan hardware - sadly this doesn't help me, because videorecording is lagging on 1.32 etc ...
I've tried running cm7.0.3 and virtuous 1.0.2 and I can't get a GPS lock while using runkeeper. Is this because of my location?? or the rom?
I've also tried the clear cache zip file for CM7 and it still didn't work.
Thanks
Did your GPS work when you were stock?
There are quite a few reports of GPS issues with CM, I know I experienced (and still do to some degree) a lot of them.
There are several things that people have tried to fix this issue..
You can wipe your "EFS" data, I tried this and it made things different but I'm not sure if it made them better.
You can flash a new radio, I'm currently running 12.50.60.24_26.08.04.16 and it's working reasonably well for me but there is a newer one available that I plan on switching to the next time I upgrade CM
See http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/21454-gps-on-g2-not-working-stable-7/ for more information
Thanks, tried wiping efs but that didn't work. Will try the radio now
My personal i927r seems to be having issues with RB 4.2.2. I am about ready to wipe the thing out and start over. I tried going back to 1/24/13 4.2.1 but it would not get past the boot screen with colors.
Issues are: Graphic glitches when reading/browsing/gaming, also lockup/freezing sometimes when graphic glitches happen, sometimes at random. My G/F's i927r doesn't have those issues, just needs it's EFS restored about once a week (I use galaxsim). So what should I do? What does it take to do a fresh install? I wipe caches before and after flashing roms. I use the most recent 1/20/2013 Gapps for it too from thegreatergood. I am using SDSwap 1.0 as instructed by thegreatergood in my last thread. (I still don't have enough posts to post for help in the dev forum).
Should I wipe the whole thing and try a fresh install? 4.2.2 RB works so well on the G/F's phone...but not on mine.
Well I wiped the rom, the caches and data in TWRP, and re-installed the most recent Rootbox 4.2.2 and Gapps 1/20/2013 and SDSwap 1.0. So far seems to be more stable. I have noticed with this ROM that the battery timer is random...my phone could be unplugged for a couple hours and yet it will say it's only been on battery for 30 minutes. Bizzare. But beyond that I will report back if my issues arise again.
That's really strange. I've hopped in and out of Rootbox a few times and haven't encountered anything like the issues you're having. I'm not using SDSwap, maybe that's where the problem is?
My only issue now is that my music skips in aux/BT/loudspeaker, hoping that it'll be fixed next update. I assume it's from the tinkering trying to get bluetooth audio to work on phone calls.

I'm not playing music from my phone (I have a Sansa Clip Zip with Rockbox for that), so I cannot comment there. I can however say, that booting into recover TWRP, clearing caches, clearing data, clearing rom then installing the 2/16/2013 Rootbox, 1/20/2013 GApps, and the SDSwap 1.0 (from the AOSP thread) and now everything is working great! No lockups or freezes. Something was bugged and wasn't getting overwritten.
If that didn't work I was going to wipe all memory and try that...thankfully everything is good to go now. So if you have any issues similar, wipe the caches, data and rom and then try installing. I usually just wiped the caches and installed the new version, which may be my mistake in the first place. I will post back if I find any issues...haven't quite hit the 24hr mark yet.
It seems far what I have heard on rootbox support thread that rootbox also has random reboot issues. So its not just our build of it.

Ya I have read that as well. I will say after doing what I stated above with what I would consider a clean install, I haven't had a single issue aside from a random camera app lockup. No restarts, no graphical glitches, no freezing, everything else has been just about perfect! I am glad the stock android keyboard works and that so far everything else I do on this phone is smooth and fast and pretty damn stable.
Anyone have any force closes trying to set pattern lock screen? Or is it just me. It seems like I have heard this somewhere but can not find it now.

having issues as mentioned in the OP..
graphic glitches/
during movement of 1 screen to another (tab browising), screen gets struck..
games are slow..
having problems with few apps not working (Think they need upgradation)
some shortcuts not working..(long press in scroll down menu - Data selection)
sometimes FC's in settings..
No problem in gallery/photo browsing
my phone:
- random reboots
- often reboots when alarm start (one vibrate then reboot)
- veryyyy looooooong waking up
- swapSD destroyed my 32gb sandisk microsd (but on 4.2.1 version) so watch out with that.
no graphic glitches for me.
i will probably back to official ics because of that waking up, its really annoying

I haven't had any problems since I did a total clean install. Reboot to TW recover. Chear cache/dalvik, wipe rom, clear data + cache, Install new ROM, 1/20/2013 Gapps, SDSwap 1.0 (from aosp thread), wipe cache/dalvik again, reboot and voila, good to go! Verified on both my phone and my g/f's phone. Worth a shot for you guys out there having issues. You won't lose pics or contacts or provider info (at least I didn't lose my straight talk info), but you will lose login info, wifi info, app saves, etc. Well worth it for a stable and snappy phone. Cheers!

Titanium backup will save your bookmarks, wifi access points, call logs and any data settings... I have mine scheduled to backup every 3 days to my external SD .. hmm.. I guess I should also set it up to backup to google drive on a regular basis... Things we ALL should be doing!
camera problems
apart from the ocasional reboots wich I can live with I saw 2 issues
I develop Android apps, so these kind of affect me directly:
* I can not use the camera programmatically
when I use the following code I can not get out of the camera app
Intent intent = new Intent(MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE);
intent.putExtra(MediaStore.EXTRA_OUTPUT, uri);
startActivityForResult(intent, TAKE_PHOTO_ACTION);
* The Android data backup function is complettly random. This is completly random accross phones and versions, but here also .
I could not get it to work correctly. It just keeps restoring some old backup, not the latest changes. I think data backup does not even get triggered for my app with the normal 'adb shell bmgr run'
You can contact me directly if you need more details.
I use a samsung galaxy s3 gt-i9300
Has anybody else had issues getting GPS to lock? I've been using Gpsconf, waze, google maps etc. all with no luck, even following this thread here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141812&page=2 ... no dice...
if I can't get GPS going I have to stop using this rom.
I had juice defender installed, and with it installed my phone went into sleep and wouldn't wake up at all ... had to hold power until phone rebooted... this is day1 of using it, so far not looking very promising.
This was my question from the Rootbox thread:
Hmmm.... I tried installing this twice yesterday, and both times my network came up as "Unknown". My carrier and phone number were both listed, but I got an "unknown" network, I couldn't change network type under Phone Information, and and I receive no signal. I did not have this issue with CM10.

I've seen quite a few "flash back to stock, then flash AOSP" fixes to get your GPS working. All you have to do to really fix the GPS is:
1. Backup your stock ROM's EFS through your recovery. (Do NOT wipe prior to doing this.)
2. Wipe
3. Flash AOSP based ROM.
4. Restored your ROM's EFS through your recovery's advanced restore.
Done.
GPS is my ROM's Bane!

So, I am having a GPS issue that I've been unable to solve through any of the numerous method's posted around XDA (my primary source of all things android) and related sites. It could be a simple solution, but I've exhausted my very limited knowledge and am hoping you have some input or suggestion...
I'm on the LS970 and in an over-caffeinated moment, I fully wiped the stock ROM without a backup. I know that is totally stupid, and have been much more careful with my fingers since then. :silly: I have been unable to get a GPS lock on Spleef's Carbon 4.3 20131020 (or any previous), so tried to factory restore and TWRP flashed a ZV9 ODEX (failed install), ZV7 STOCK (failed install) and SPR-ZVB which flashed successfully but gave me FCs and reboots everytime I opened an app that would get a GPS lock. I have tried the FasterGPS, GPS Status and Toolbox, and edited my GPS.conf. Since I can't get back to factory, I need another way to get to a "factory-enough" for a GPS lock...
Any ideas? I think maybe there's a path/process to follow to be able to go from AOSP to stock that I'm not doing, but I have no idea what it is.
Fingers Crossed!
I was having the same issue with Bean Stalk then carbon also. using the app GPS essentials it would show 0 satellites in the sky even though GPS was enabled.
I flashed the Optimized ROM in the DEV section and this did bring back the GPS functionality.
just an FYI since your stock ROM is gone.

You have SAVED MY WORLD!! HUURAAAAYYYYY!!!!!! :highfive:
The OpTimized ROM was PERFECT in bringing back my GPS, it locked in seconds. It took me a few tries to get it active on Carbon4.3, so I'm going to give my "steps" for successful completion.
I FULL WIPED before flashing OpTimuS_V4.4 (ODEX) - that's Data, System, Dalvik and Cache. (Obvious? I first ran a full TWRP Backup of the system, data, boot)
Then I flashed, booted, and let it go through its process. It took its own "soft reboot" which I thought would turn "Bootloop" but it did NOT... rebooting to the "Semi Stock OpTimuS" perfectly. It did the "Activate" process on its own.
Then - I went to System Updates. PRL first, then Profile. Then the VITAL UPDATES were Google Maps and Play Services.
After this, I rebooted to let it reacquaint, and then installed FasterGPS, using it to clear the current aGPS. Next, installed FreeGee.
Opening the updated Google Maps, I IMMEDIATELY got the lock, but let it sit for 5 minutes. (reset "display time" to 5 minutes to keep track.)
Next - AFTER the GPS locking for 5 minutes, I did a backup of EFS with FreeGee. If you have PREVIOUS BACKUPS on the Internal Storage, they need to be replaced. This can be easily done with ES File Explorer, or any which allow root access. Go to the active (sdcard on LS970) FreeGee, copy the EFS settings, and replace those in the "/0" or Legacy FreeGee folder.
This may be "overkill" but I went back into Google Maps, got a Lock again, let it sit a few minutes and "tested" the navigation function.
While still in Maps, I powered down. Booting into Recovery (I use TWRP), I ran a RESTORE of my TWRP Backup, since the backups aren't "install" compatible. My fear was the "Restore" would override my updates, but when you run it, just "uncheck" EFS in the restore choices and you're :good:.
My LS970 booted up LOVELY, ran its normal boot process, and when I opened Google Maps .... ~*Aaaaaaaahhhhhh~* light from the Heavens! It locked FAST, and the Nav even worked!!
I have been trying to find this Fix for almost TWO MONTHS so I am on Cloud 9 right now!! Thank You @etownguy!!!
GPS locking issue
Hello all,
I am an intermediate novice at flashing, but Ive gained some knowledge over the recent years here and there. Heres the issue, I am running into the same issue as euphoric fuzion except I have exhausted all that I know. I rooted, unlocked bootloader and flashed my ls970 without creating an official Rom backup or backing up my EFS- I know, not bright of me. After using my new roms I realized that MY GPS isnt locking. So, Ive done everything from writing new NPS locations in gps.conf, attempting to go back to stock via LGNPST-Ive used the auto option, Flash tool and they dont seem to recognize my phone via download mode but the drivers are installed-pc recognizes. One flash tool actually recognizes my phone as another model. Ive tried to flash stock based Roms-one ins particular at no suceess-symlink failure. Attempted to flash ZVC stock based Rom with Firmware flash- the phone remains in bootloop from my previous ROM. In order to use the phone I have to reinstall CM11- my fav for now- but I cannot lock my GPS with out SPrints PRL update, or network update for my profile. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance
