Must have apps for our baby's - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

as the title say - must have apps list. i would like to increase my knowledge about usefull apps and thems functions. so i will start with mine
juice defender - great battery saver - can be free or paid version
Avg free antivirus - free antivirus
Battery doctor - also task killer build in - nice app - free
Double twist - nice player - music and media in one. - free
Zedge - great app for wallpappers and ringtones - free
Fancy widget - great widget for weather + clock - free
Gps test -
lancher pro - for costumizing the home screens + icons
barcode scanner
unzip - free
Dolphin HD browser - the best thing ever - with option to switch views between mobile and desktop..
Widgetlocker - for costumizing screen locks
on rooted devices only
CWM - amazing stuff
Autokiller memory optimizer - superb autokiller - battery saver nr1
Superuser
Titanium backup - paid 4.99
quick boot
and i will be happy if u can share your apps - the way -
show me what u got!

Unlock with Wifi, Tripview, Quota, Circle Battery, HD Wallpapers, Fontomizer SP and Snowstorm are all pretty useful apps to have on the SGS II. My personal fav of which is Unlock with Wifi. What it does it automically disable the lockscreen when your at home by recognising your Wifi. When I go out of my house however the lockscreen is enabled again. Very convenient
Oh and also, everyone should check out samsung dive if they haven't already (do a quick google search since I can't post links yet). If you've created an account with Samsung and entered it on your phone in the accounts page it's pretty much a better (and more official) version of Wheres My Droid. With it, you can lock your phone, check it's call and sms history, track it, wipe all data from it and of course, call it all through your internet browser.

No baby grown up SGS 2 .
Super Manager replaced Root Explorer for me .
http://www.appbrain.com/app/super-manager/gpc.myweb.hinet.net.TaskManager
Titanium Pro as always .
Quick Settings turn off wifi mobile data etc.
Nitrality early days yet but useful xda tool .
http://www.appbrain.com/app/nitrality/com.nfye.insanity.toolbox
Chrome to Phone + Fox to Phone in Firefox send links .
http://www.appbrain.com/app/google-chrome-to-phone/com.google.android.apps.chrometophone
Dropbox often quicker file transfer than connecting USB cable .

seriously. none of that is needed at all.
no offence though.

Juice defender can be handy when you live or work where your phone constantly gets and loses signal in a low signal area . Saves a lot of battery so I would not call it useless . Adfree is one I would recommend to any rooted user.

No one yet (edit : Except krabman -- Can't believe my eagle-eyes didn't spot it) has mentioned 'Ad-Free Android', apart from SetCPU and Root Explorer, it's the first app I install and run. Get rid of those rubbishy ads in Angry Birds.
I can also say Terminal Emulator for those tech-savvy people and Beats (very fun DDR / Osu! clone - Still in Beta but really good)

My phone has installed itself a scorching case of syphilis. I didn't install it from the Market and I am not sure how my phone contracted an STD. I think it has been consorting with some iPhones behind my back.
Dirty phone! I will have words with it. Does anyone have a suggestion for a 'protector' for my miscreant phone?

Hi this is my first android as well (got mine yesterday)
I must admit i havn't really installed that many apps yet.. but i can recommend the "google goggles" and "asphalt 5"
-TB-
I would also like to know.
Performance increasing apps?
Useful (swiss army knife) apps?
Amazing recreational must haves?
Thanks.
AutoKiller - memory managment
Barcode Sanner - for getting links to apps from the internet
If using mytracks:
Linda file manager - to import tracks
My track editor
A nice widget is smooth calendar if you have a lot of appointments.

Shazam is awsome

I love the SMS popup program
Australian phone - Found some of the best ones were ES Task Manager, Handcent for SMS/MMS and the ability to change tones via, Camera 360 for an app which enhances everything you can do with the camera, SMS backup to backup to Gmail account and Wheres my Droid which allows you to send a message to the phone when it is on silent which takes the silencer off and triggers the ringtone, enabling you to find it if you have misplaced it. Also another handy one is 3G watchdog which keeps an eye on your data usage.
I like:
AutoKiller (needs root)
Launcherpro
Homeswitcher
Appremover
Appsinstaller
MyBackup Pro
Fancywidget
Extended Controls
LeshaK's update.zip found here
I'm going to have to second launcherpro, really great app.
I can't find fancywidget in the market, is it under a new name maybe?
Also, while shazam is really nice and very accurate for commercial radio, is there another app that's aimed at more obscure/australian music music (I listen to Triple J if that helps)?
Finally can someone recommend a good news widget for australia.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I have also noticed this, although some songs arent registered in the shazam database

HTC complaned and it got pulled off the market i think. You will have to find an alternate source.
Since its installed on my phone can i extract the apk? I would be happy to upload somewhere.

Dimmer is useful if you like to keep display brightness down (more than you can adjust in system settings) and save battery.

WOW!!! Startup Cleaner. Now this is a very handy wee app! Link...

Now this is a handy wee app!
Check this out. Before installing this app get your hands on taskxp from the market (don't set it as your default launcher make your default what is already was). Reboot your device then click taskxp to check what apps have started (a lot!), also see the amount off free ram you have. But the app below actually works
Download the app from the link below. Disable user apps, and whatever system apps are starting (compare/check with taskxp). Reboot then check what apps have started, nice eh?
It took me just a couple of reboots to get it set up nice.
Note, stay away from installed apps all that does is uninstall.
Try it out post here what you think.

Autostarts is the business!! Have been using it since i got my SGS and still using on my SGS II - after wipe/new rom, it's the SECOND app i install after TB!!
I prefer Gemini App Manager, because there is not one, but different kind of autostarts with different triggers and each can be modified by the Gemini app (together with its task killer widget and it's ability to freeze apps (although I have Titanium Backup) it's nearly perfect)

MUST have Apps for Dinc2

-QuickPic (alternative to gallery, some nice features and layout)
-SmsAwake (if you dont have SMS awake settings on your ROM)
-Beautiful Widgets (if you're not running a sense ROM)

Most custom roms have the ability to deny apps permissions. If you don't have the option on your current rom then try out:

Have you tried clearing data/uninstalling updates for the play store under 'manage applications'?
Not sure if this will fix it. I've read in other places that flashing a different version of the market and letting it update again will fix the problem.

Widgets
How about some of your favorite widgets? I have room on my homescreens and nothing comes to mind on what to fill it with!
UCCW-My new favorite Widget!
Root Explorer-I really prefer the interface to ES. Enough, I was willing to pay for it.
Camera360 Ultimate- Best camera app IMO.
Docs To Go-Best pdf/doc viewer I have found.
Dropbox-If you haven't gotten a Dropbox account yet, you need to click HERE.
Google Voice-Been using this since Beta for VM. Love it.
Google Music-As soon as I could, I jumped on this bandwagon.
Jump Desktop- awesome and easy remote desktop access.
Zumocast-Because Jump doesn't allow the same kind of file transfer (had to get a hacked version to work with DInc2).
MD5 Checker-Self explanitory if you're rooted
PdaNet-Wired and Wireless Tether in one app.
The Chive-Keep Calm and Chive On!
GotYa! Face Trap-If I lost my phone or it was stolen, I would be very glad to have this app on there.
XDA Premium of course.

[Q] My samsung galaxy tab 3 is soooooo slow

I just got good deal on samsung galaxy tab3. I paid only £69 for a new one, before I had HTC Flyer which my children killed after few years of using. I expected technology moved forward and samsung to be decent manufacturer however to my surprise this tablet is extremely slow. Way slower then my grandpa HTC Flyer ever was!
It is lagging so much that it takes to press it sometimes 7 times for a video to go to full screen not to mention anything else. On top of that sometimes it does turn itself off!!!
So what is a reason fro that and what should I do. Should I send it back get refund and add few extra £ for Nexus 7 (I got nexus 4 phone I am delighted with performance and smoothness and with most of it's aspects), or should I root it and get custom rom (but then warranty is not an option). Is it typical for those tablets or do I have faulty one?
Sounds like a bad build. Exchange for another

hi,
i have a t210r.
svelte 4.1 runs nice.
ditch all the superfluous stuff - do not mess with fusedlocation.apk.
then build it back up with better quality more sensible apps.
use sdmaid to clean it good every once in a while.
use rom toolbox or systemcleanup to kill snoopy and pointless recievers and auto starts.
sslauncher is a lot nicer than nova [no go]
and appcache cleaner widget on the desktop is a good thing.
for a low end tab it really isn't that bad.
nexus 7 sucks for one major reason, no sdcard slot.
i'm telling you, the cloud could go skynet any time
for play you only need play, login service, and services framework apks
oh, and chrome [the swirly rainbow one] is awful.
use the stock stock browser, firefox seems to do okay
and i absolutely love mxplayer.
bye

Hi
This device have just a dual core CPU 1.2 GHz!! and you must not attend very responsive performance on this device with android 4.1.
But I offer you factory reset or a suitable custom ROM.
Totally, you shouldn't compare a mid-range tab like this to another(already systems were very incomplex than now as performance was better and more responsive)

Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ Battery Saving Tips

A phone even with killer looks and amazing features still needs a descent battery backup to support it all. In past we've seen that a few tricks here and there always tend to increase battery life. Usually that includes disabling a few apps or features. This thread is for specifically targeting such tips & tricks and sharing it all so that S6 Edge+ can live upto its expectations..
1. To start with, lets get to the list of bloatwares that can be safely disabled.
If any of you own the AT&T version, here's a list you can disable:-
AT&T Apps:-
AT&T FamilyMap
AT&T Hot Spots
AT&T Live
AT&T Locker
AT&T Mail
AT&T Mobile Locate
AT&T Mobile Transfer
AT&T Navigator
AT&T Ready2Go
AT&T Smart Wi-Fi
Drive Mode
Caller Name ID
Mobile TV
Plenti
Smart Limits
Yp (Yellow Pages)
Other Apps:-
S Voice
Amazon (I prefer the playstore version for frequent updates)
Amazon Kindle
Device Help
Live Weather (Yahoo)
Lookout
Theme Store
Visual Voicemail
2. Refrain from using any free application that has embedded advertisements. They tend to run threads in background to load adds and thus degrade the app performance and used data (so naturally consume more power too). Either buy add-free version or find an alternate app for same purpose and without adds.
3. Disable notifications from social media/news apps like Facebook, Twitter, Tapatalk, etc. Although, the phone wouldn't be that smart if all the notifications are disabled, however, keep them at bare minimum. Not everybody would be interested in notifications from all the apps, so spend some time analyzing through all the installed apps and their settings to turn off the notifications for the apps you do not need to get notifications for. There are several apps that keep sending notifications and running a thread in background which again checks internet to load the notification content. An example would be games like Candy Crush or Clash Of Clans.
4. Turn off "Send Usage Statistics" or "Help Improve the app performance", "Participate in improvement" etc settings from the app which sends data from your device from time to time which acts as a survey to improve the performance of the app. Although this is a necessary option for a developer, however, if you do not care about your granular contribution towards further development of the app, try deselecting such options while setting up new apps.
5. Refrain from using external Memory Management Apps and RAM Cleaners. They tend to run heavy background services to detect memory usage and kill applications. Trust me, you would be better without them.
6. Try using black wallpaper and lock screen. Also, always select Dark Mode if any app has theme section. This makes the pixels produce less brightness and considerably save more battery.
7. Keep GPS Location off when not using any navigational/location based apps. When the GPS is ON, there are some apps that tend to acquire a GPS Lock even though they can work without it. Keeping GPS Off will not allow such apps to request for GPS Lock. GPS Locking is a battery draining process.
8. You can use certain tools like Greenify, WiFi Automatic, etc. to automatically manage application states or phone wireless to save some additional battery. Use these only if you are lazy like me. Otherwise you can always manually turn on/off wifi/bluetooth/nfc etc etc. Also, there are tools (like Juice Defender) which can enable/disable data connective at a frequent interval which results in really good power conservation without loosing push notification.
With applying most of these settings, I'm getting 6-7 hrs of screen on time very easily even when I've downloaded 1+ GB data and 40 minutes of video chat (hangout). Not to mention the usual gaming and application usage.:cyclops:
I hope that helps. I'll keep adding if I get any (without root).

Tweak brightness.
I believe rooting a phone can improve its battery life. This method works for almost all devices.

I'm sure you mean rooting and installing all sorts of battery saving items/tweaking.
Marely rooting wouldn't bring any difference to battery life for sure!
Just tweak brightness, make sure you getting good signal and use WiFi when available, don't leave Abby of the radio on unless not using it and that shall be good I guess

How can you disable those apps. I'm on T Mobile but we have our share of T Mobile bloat. Would love to disable a bunch of them without customizing my files lol

Just long press the app in the app drawer and drag it up to where it says disable.

It's the icon on the lower right corner of the screen that says "Apps". Once you get in there find the app that you want to disable. Long press the icon of the app and drag it to the upper left corner of the screen where it says "Disable". Then when the "Disable" word lights up red just release the app into there.
Check out my screenshot for an example.

Tweak brightness is its pmajor problem.......
Thanks for the listing. I love the new design than S6 edge, hopefully it will last longer as well...
Please tell me a solution if any one knows:
I open facebook and after some time i close this application by click on list tasks soft key and close it. Immediately when I go into setting > application manager > running apps I still see a facebook process running. Technically i guess this should be gone i guess and hence any idea how to clean these which i guess can improve battery life.
Update: If I have notifications turned on in facebook then yes it can still run some process even after I close it in Apps Tab but I see the same with Samsung Music Player i.e after I close it I still see a thread in "Running" Apps.

These kind of apps do tend to run a background process to check for updates. Closing the app doesn't necessarily mean that the processes will close. And I'm not even sure even if you turn off all the notification services of an app, all the related processes will close for sure, it depends. Also, if you are using apps like facebook etc, do not worry much about the battery life if you have turned off the background data usage and notification services. It will have very minimal impact, almost negligible!
on Tmobile version, Its not possible to disable Tmobile apps or smasung's own bloat. What a sigh!

Yes it does. Came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/general/guide-bloating-touchwizzing-note-5-t3184563 does a good job on mine so far. It disabled around 30 app and i feel it did make a difference. I use the default XML attached

Out of all those 30 apps you disabled did you lose any functionality?
