"+1" dialing issues - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using CM7 nighties and ever sense moving to AOSP I have noticed that all of my Facebook contacts that are synced with my phone come over with the "+1" prefix. When I go to make a call to one of them I am told that i don have a sufficient balance on my account to make this call. I am using Google Voice but this issue was around before I started using that. While using a stock Sense based ROM I don't have this issue it just drops the prefix and makes the call. I love CM& and AOSP and really want to continue using them but its getting old having to edit every number before i call it.

Have you tried turning google voice to only make international calls? Check the settings in the app.

Google Voice is what is telling me that I don't have a sufficient balance. Before I had Google Voice it would say that it was not able to place the call.

Hmmm you could try going to google.com/voice and changing your GV number linked to your phone. Have you ported your sprint # into google voice? I use two separate numbers, 1 sprint # and my GV has a seperate #. If you try that make sure you go back to call settings and select "voicemail number" and dial that little number that pops up to activate it again.
Or
Try going to all the numbers and removing the plus, google voice thinks you're calling long distance dude. I believe aosp roms don't like the +1 man you have to get that plus out lol.

Its a ROM issue. I was wondering if there was some setting or app that would take care of the issue.

I can't edit the numbers that are brought in by Facebook.

Ouch damn that sucks. It has to be aosp...ill do some research see what I come up with lol.

My last guess would be to try another dialer and use it over the stock cm7 one. Search market for "dialer one" or "go dialer".
Go dialer
http://market.android.com/details?id=com.jbapps.contact
Dialer one
http://market.android.com/details?id=kz.mek.DialerOne

I like go dialer but it is a no go. Still happens. This has to be in the rom some where.

This has to be an issue with the Rom's.

try going to menu-settings-call-plus code dialing and untick "north American dialing" thats what finally worked for me.

The only temp solution i have found with MikG 1.x is to go into your contacts and unlink the Facebook contact, hit done, and then manually relink the Facebook contact. This workaround effectively got rid of the +1 dialing prefix on the majority of my contacts.

Help!!!!!!

Two questions
1) what is a voicemail. Handle?
2) voicemail not working Cyn.mod7 Ginger update.
I so need to fix my vmail I've tried various sprint vvm packs with no success. Even willing to make a pay pal donation. Ok. Thanks in advance evolution lovers.

I think this is discussed in the Nightlies thread in general or in the RC1 thread. I believe there is a fix for this, but not positive it applies to your specific issue.
I THINK the fix is this:
Flash a sense ROM and get Sprint vvm set up and working, then back it up with titanium.
Go back to CM7, either restore or flash again, then use Titanium to restore it WITH DATA.
I do seem to remember something about install Sprint vvm without Titanium, then using it to restore only the data, but I can't remember for sure.
Or you could use google voice like me, I don't care about voicemail enough to worry about it.

actually, if you get a GVoice number, you can configure your phone to use GVoice.
Dial *28AAABBBCCCC
where AAABBBCCC = your GVoice number.
also, you can go to Settings > Call Settings > Voicemail and change it to Google Voice, it will dial for you.
GV backs your voicemail up to the cloud, transcribes (with fairly good accuracy), and e-mails it to you. What more could you want?? No more backing up/restoring voicemails, and you can read and see via e-mail your voicemail when your phone's dead (as opposed to having to call your # and hitting pound every time).

Yeah, the others are correct. You have to get a Google voice number, but you don't have to give it out to anyone. Just log into your google account on your comp and go to Google Voice to set up your account and pick a number once you have the number, click gvoice on your phone and it will walk you through the setup step by step.
Took me a while the first time figuring it out on my own, after that it's no problem.
If I were you I would just download youmail it worked great for me. You mail is in the market and a website to finish youmail.com

[Q] voice search adding "+1", cannot complete call?

HEllo, I have another problem.
Whenever I hold down the search button and say "Call ____________" and it's a business that i do not have in my phone, it adds "+1" before the area code. I have a droid incredible, btw. on verizon (obviously, hehe).
i'll say "call mcdonald's" and it'll dial "+1610xxxxxxx"
However, because it adds this "+1", it cannot dial, and a verizon voice comes on and says something like,
"welcome to Verizon wireless. your call cannot be completed as dialed. please check the number and dial again. announcement 4 switch 8-4"
this is a pretty big problem, cuz i have to memorize the number and retype it and then dial it. which is like, the opposite of what i should be doing. and it's kind of hard to show off the cool Voice Search feature on your phone if you can't dial all the time...
any suggestions?
also, i spoke w/ someone from htc customer service, and he says that all of their htc devices add a "+1" to their calls, too...
is this a htc problem?
Are you running a Z rom?
Those are Europe-exclusive, so it'll add the 1 for the international call.
I think.

Yep, this shouldn't be a problem with a sock Incredible or any of the Inc or Evo based ROMs. The only time I've encountered it is when using a Z Rom, and then only when I enabled sync with htcsense.com.
no, i'm running stock android and sense, i have not rooted.
maybe it's because i have htc syncing on?
i only have facebook for htc sense on... news stocks... google syncing...
do you guys have this problem? on your incredibles, what happens if you hold down your Magnifying Glass (search) and say "Call McDonald's" ?
Hello, I just noticed something ...
in Google Voice, my voicemail service, I notice that any number that is NOT a contact is displayed w/ a "+1" in front of it. Could this be related to Google Voice?
i don't have a Google Voice number, though.
Just checked my GVoice.
All (US) numbers have a 1 in front, even if I didn't add them.
hm... thanks, but why the +1...
That's the code for the country.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
the problem is that not every number has a country code. the ones that do, and they have a +1, when i hit redial, the call cannot be completed. i tried to disable assisted dialing, but that doesn't fix anything. any other ideas?
i'm beginning to feel like the problem is w/ Sense... when you root your Incredible, are you still running Sense? I think it's something to do w/ stock sense. we'll keep seeeing...
I have this problem with CM 7 as well.
I have a feeling it's a google voice issue... but who knows.
Anyone found a solution ?

Is there a gingerbread ROM yet with working 4G?

I've been out of the loop lately and just want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Thanks.

Gingerbread + 4g + AOSP = CM7
Awesome, thank you both!
I can't deal with the VM issues on CM7. Otherwise, it is awesome. But the text each time you get a voicemail is ridiculous.
Update to using Google Voice... No more VVM issues with CM7, and works like a charm.

But why? Sounds like there's another option besides switching my phone number.
Besides, I can never get used to the "press 1 to talk prompt." I'm always like, hello? ... press 1 ... hello?

Well for one, you do not have to change your number anymore... Sprint has integrate with GV where your Sprint number is your GV number...
Second, yeah that is getting a bit annoying. I am hoping they fix that or provide a way to turn it off...

You, sir, just blew my mind. I am potentially very happy about this.
Potentially because I apparently do not have the capability yet. I don't have the "enable google voice on your sprint mobile phone" link next to my number.

That is still in the testing phase, you won't be able to unless you sign up for testing (not sure if that is still open) or until they release it.

Dammit I want it now, though.
Why would switching to gv for voice mail change your number? I have gv as my voice mail and I don't need to change my number. Whenever people call my sprint number and I don't pick up it just goes to gv voicemail.
Also the press 1 to talk prompt can be changed in gov setting via computer not android app. If you log in to gv on your computer you can change the settings.

+1 I like the Google Voice MUCH better than Sprint VVM.....and the text translations are free (though not all that accurate at times). Just alot more options than VVM.
im using youmail for visual voice mail on CM7, works like a charm, and i dont get those text messages from 9019 or whatever number it was, i can't remember if i blocked them with my messaging app, but i think just fiddling with some settings makes it go away, after my most recent flash a few days ago the text messages never showed up,
Even if you have a gv number, it's not like you have to change your number. Dialing your sprint number still gets people to your gv voicemail.
Plus, like said above, if you're getting texts, just block them. Most of the GB AOSP ROMs (if not all) have 4g now.

Google voice?

So I just picked up my first EVO yesterday. Rooted running fresh, nice.
I installed the same version of Google voice on here, as is on my Hero, however the EVO doesn't give me the option to 'make' calls. And in the set up, it took over my messaging app. I can't even change the options on messaging. Anyone know why its so limited and controlling on the EVO?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
To switch back you need to go online I believe as far as the messaging. Also try seeing uf there is a update for GV, cause in mine there is a setting to ask everytime, or to just use one or the other.

I think I did that is there any way to fix it
It seems you have integrated your GV with Sprint. You need to go in your GV account online and disable integration and remove your GV account from the app. Then you need to setup GV again, this time, press "skip" the first time you get the choice to skip while setting up and setup GV the regular way without integrating.

Google Voice losing out to Tmobile Vmail ;)

Okay this is weird, I had a Galaxy S2 that I must have flashed new ROMS on at least 50 times and reinstalled all my software but this is the first time I've ever left my phone stock and now Google Voice doesn't work.
I've disabled Visual Voicemail by freezing it so it's not in the picture.
Voice is installed it's all signed in, background sync is on but when a call comes in it goes to TMobile's voice mail instead. Checked settings and voicemail is set to Google Voice.
Maybe because I never stayed on stock before I'm missing something?
Perplexed,
Kevin
try uninstalling and reinstalling it, that will probably work.

Same issue here. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling voice, but still no luck. It's not a huge deal, but still kinda annoying.
Make sure your conditional call forwarding is set to forward to googles voicemail and not tmobiles. Did you just get a new sim card by any chance? The forwarding settings are stored on the sim card and I've had ROMs that simply wouldn't save the new voicemail forwarding settings... If this is the issue then go back to stock, reprogram your sim then reflash your desired ROM. Voicemail isn't handled through the "my carrier" or "Google voice" setting, its handled through conditional call forwarding.

Try deleting app from phone. Log on to Google voice on your computer. Will give u a "deactivate" code for you to disk on your phone. Then reinstall app & run setup on phone.

If you are on T-mobile prepaid plan, you do not have conditional call forwarding so you will not be able to use GV instead of T-mo's voicemail.
Problem solved. Just manually set the forwarding numbers (when busy/unreachable/unanswered) to your Google voice phone number. If ur like me and don't remember what it is just go to Google voice app settings and scroll down. Also make sure your voicemail is set to Google voice. This is all done under call settings. Ezz pzzzy

I solved the problem by calling TMO customer service and having Visual VoiceMail removed from my account. Nasty stuff, that app. It hijacked my voice mails, so that when I accessed them through normal voice mail retrieval, I never had any new messages...they were all automatically marked as "saved." :silly:
Came here after searching... Same issue. I changed conditional call forwarding and will see if that works. Silly question, no additional charges for call forwarding?

I had this same issue. It appears that Google Voice no longer sets up the call forwarding for you. I had to go into the conditional call forwarding and it worked after that. I believe they're there for unanswered, unable to reach and unavailable and they forward after that.
I had the same issue as everyone - go through the online setup from voice.google.com again and it will give you the magic # code that will update all your call forwarding and that does it for me - in addition to the settings menu that allows google voice to handle my voicemails.
Now i see voicemails in the call log and google voice is integrated there.
dont recall the hascode - but it will contian your google voice number as the end portion - this will forward all calls (from the network side) based on the status of your phone (out of range, no answer, and rejected) - you could have them each go to a different number if you really wanted to
