[Rooting] Galaxy Gio GT-S5660 - Samsung Galaxy Gio GT-S5660

Root your Gio With Gingerbread 2.3.3:
1. Download: Update.zip
2. Copy ZIP file to your SD-card
3. Turn off your phone
4. Now, you will have to switch ON your device in the recovery Mode which can be done by holding the Middle button and then Power ON the device by pressing the Power ON button.
5. In recovery mode, you will see the option called update from SD Card, select this option and then you will see that the list of files will come from which you will have to select the file which is named as Update.zip
6. Wait a few seconds (MAX 5 minutes!)
7. Your phone is rooted

Thanks for the info!

Delete and recopy the Update.zip file to SD card. If still failed, just format the SD card and do as guided. It will work definitely.

Thank you for this nice tutorial.
Everything seems to be working fine, except for when I flash zip from sdcard.
When I command it to install the zip and confirm it, it says:

E:Can't open /sdcard/AMDesireRecovery.zip

Have you got any idea of what I have done wrong?
If so, what should I do to solve it?
Thanks in advance

ROM manager don't want to start new ROM

THIS POST IS COPY/PASTE FROM "DESIRE ANDROID DEVELOPMENT"...I THINK THIS IS RIGHT PLACE FOR THIS POST PERHAPS...
Hi there got some problems with ROM manager (latest version from Market)...
I put new LeeDroid on my SD card and when start ROM manager goes to "Install rom from sd card" RM asked me for directory and I "tell" him where the ROM is...when I tap on LeeDroid (.zip) ask me for ROM Pre-installation and I tick both options - OK - press Reboot into Clockwork Recovery and continue the installation. I press OK and nothing happened then
Then tried with untick both options - same thing...
Then I try Reboot into Recovery options and nothing happened again
Then download CyanogenMod 6.1.1. from ROM manager - same thing...nothing happened
But when I Reboot into Recovery mod (Hot reboot app) reboot was successfull and I was making System backup....
What is going wrong there
Please help me
Clockwork mode is 2.5.0.7.
P.S.
Sorry if my english is poor
If the ROM Manager is giving you problems, just install your ROM from the recovery menu
Ok...I'll try now
It's going on......and finished
What now?? Nothing happened after that....I have to put the battery out or what?
I was put the battery out and then start device...i'm in AlphaRev Recovery now and when press "Reboot system now" nothing happened??
You mean you have installed Leedroid from your SD card in Recovery?
Once successfully installed, you don't need to pull out your battery, you just need to find the option in your recovery to restart OR boot up your system.

Was but nothig happened just black empty screen is there and when i press power button show me menu for reboot...
I'll try to do it again (install from .zip)
Ok....now here's some options...
apply sdcard:update.zip
choose .zip from card
toggle signature verification
toggle script asserts
What have to do now?? I pressed APPLY UPDATE FROM SD CARD and said:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update... and below is everything the same like when was installing Ledroid..
What now?? There's no any menu....
I put back Recovery from Nand backup and press "reboot system now" but there is just black screen on device and nothin' happened..
PLEASE HELP ANYONE!
Finally
Reboot to fastbot was my option and then reboot
you should be selecting [choose .zip from card], then navigate to whatever you named your Leedroid zip.
After this installs and completes, select the option to reboot system, and you're good to go.

I wrote it in a post above
But thanks
Got new problem now...unbelivable...
Put LeeDriod on the device and don't like it....and want to back to my stock 2.2 backup...
But when in Recovery mod put Restore...said MD5 mismatch...and try again but now said: E: failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (invalid argument)
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted
But how?? I was recover once today successfully...what's goin' wrong?
md5 mismatch could mean that the recovery is corrupted?
try turning signature verification off in your recovery to try to fix your signature verification failed problem.
OR try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114
But I have to ask, when you did you make that backup of that stock 2.2?

I don't really understand what you asked me
I found on xda forum 2.2 stock ROM (rooted) and put it on my phone and fixed all my problems
I recently installed LeeDroId using CWR.
Steps i followed >
1. Download LeeDroId onto SD card.
2. Boot into Recovery
3. BACKUP EXISTING ROM
4. Wipe old rom
5. Install LeeDroId, by navigating to the zip file
6. Reboot once installed
7. WAIT. 1st boot takes about 4 mins.
Done
That worked for me.

[Q] Which Clockworkmod to Install?

On the sticky thread there is a link for cwm thread, however I'm not quite sure which filesystem to choose, I'm going to install through recovery, seems safer for me. I want to install cwm for 2 purposes, first I'm planning to backup my stock rom so that I can always flash it back if I need my warranty and second I'm planning to flash cm9 to my phone. I'm not quite sure what is the diffrence between rfs and ext4 is Currently I'm on 2.2.1 stock rom.
Actually I found the proper version of CWM to install here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414173
But I can't apply it, when I enter recovery mode the options I have are:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe chace parition
Pheraps I should rename the zip file I downloaded to update.zip? I can't select any other zip from the sd card and if I press "apply sdcard:update.zip" it searches for update.zip and fails to find it.

Download mode, remove battery, insert battery, press power, home, volume down, at the same time.

Hi,
Thanks for the great instructions! I followed them precisely but as I boot to the recovery mode (power+T) I get the following errors nor any commands work in CWM. I even tried to flash the CWM with ODIN again.

Phone doesn't reboot
Hi,
I hope anybody reads this.
I downloaded the .tar.md5 files and proceeded with the instructions.
Though Odin tells me that it's flashing the telephone this is the last message of the log "<1> Close serial port and wait until rebooting."
And nothing happens afterwards. I can only see that the phone switches on again, but the screen stays dark.
Can you help me with anything? I already spent hours because i just tried to get a custom recovery on the phone because I couldn't install CyanogenMod from the SD card.

So first I flashed the stock firmware back again to be safe that at least it's still working. That was successful.
Ok I forgot to install the GB bootloader, I didn't mention this. But from the links of the first page none is working anymore.
Can you provide me one?
Also now I can't get into the stock recovery anymore with "T + Power".

[GUIDE] For Root and Install CWM Recovery for Samsung Ace GT-S6802

I'm not a Sammy specialist, but I know how to root and flash a recovery.
I wrote this guide after the post from @loganyu who was really disappointed because there was nowhere the zip file update for the Samsung Galaxy Ace GT S6802 Duos.
In this post you will find how to root and install clockwork mod recovery for Samsung Galaxy Ace Duos GT S6802.
So, here is full solution to root your device. It has one version of CWM which is work. Previous version was not working perfectly.
Your phone screen stuck while rebooting. So you have to forcefully switch off mobile by removing and reinserting battery.
New version allows smooth restart in recovery mode. If you are new in this area and never rooted any android smart phone then read this guide with a lot of attention. So if you're ready, Go ahead for the Root process
APPLY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!
How to root your Sammy Ace GT-S6802

1 - Download this update_for_GT-S6802.zip file. This comes in zip format. Don't extract, just rename it "update" only
2 - Connect your mobile to the PC using USB cable. Samsung mobile USB drivers must be installed. Download it in case you don't have the same.
3 - Now put downloaded root file “update.zip” in your Sdcard’s root directory.
4 - Restart your device in recovery mode. Press Volume Up+Home Key/Menu Key+Power Key together to boot in your recovery.
5 - Select “apply update from sd-card” option.
6 - Navigate to “update.zip” (file which you have put in sd-card in step 3) with the volume key
7 - Select it and press home key.
8 - Root will be installed successfully.
9 - Restart your phone.

What do you mean by permanent ?
In case you will find a another recovery which is compatible with your device, you can change if you want.
I don't understand this question ?
Normally we says that for the root! not for a recovery.
If it's for the root, yes, it's a perm root
Bro m saying that , is this cwm installs internally to system ???
as in mmx devices the cwm installs permanent to system and we dont have load it every time we wanna use this, i mean we dnt have update.zip file everytime..

Not really.
I tried with other source after resetting the fone to its defaults and everything went fine. Just waiting for a serious custom ROM meanwhile.
Thanks for your answer.
After installing CWM, stock recovery sends you to CWM, so I decided to do a backup, then rebooted, but I couldn't get back to CWM again. Is there a different button combination to get to CWM? Or is it there was any problem at installing CWM with the boot stuff in the stock boot.img?
Help Needed Please

I am sure this means stock recovery rewrites recovery everytime I reboot to recovery. CWM installs, but it seems the phone overwrites stock.
It's the only explanation.
have the same problem, can't do anything.
it seems like there's no way to have a definete version of CWR on s6802....
CWM recovery is not there after reboot.
While installation, CWM is getting installed and open successfully. But after a reboot again switches to default recovery.
do these processes deal with unlocking bootloader?
I m a newbie here, sorry if this is a silly question.
Works amazing, thanks a lot for this guide, mate!
I've rooted and installed CWM today on my friend's S6802 with XXMC1 baseband ver. upon this guide. All went perfectly well.
Even after installing CWM, reboot to recovery mode brought me into stock recovery, but no problem about that- I've choosen again "update zip" function to reinstall CWM and it goes perfectly well.
