Hi,
I just rooted my Desire Z and installed Virtuous Sense ROM but I don't know how to get into recovery mode beside using ROM Manager to do that.
I pushed volume down and power at the same time and it gets into a screen with three little androids below the screen and I see there are some options with the selected on highlighted in blue (is this correct?) but I cannot use volume up/down to change the option, I press power button and it get to HBOOT asking me to update PC101MG.zip again... and I can use volume down to cancel this update and power button to reboot again.
Anyone can help me?
Thanks.
Go to the root folder of your SD card and remove the PC101MG.zip file. Once you do that it shouldn't prompt you to update PC101MG.zip again. Then you can select recovery by pressing the volume button.
Sound like you flashed a radio but forgot to remove it from what i understand from your post.

I just read an article on Engadget about the option to manually upgrade to Froyo. They give instructions on how to do it, but I tried it on my non-rooted EVO and got lost. Can anyone explain to me, in detail, exactly how to do this manual update? Explain as if you're talking to a six-year-old because I know nothing about the inner workings of my phone.

1.download the file. 2. rename that file to update. 3.put the file you just named update on the sdcard(not in any folder, just open the sdcard and put it there) 4.shut the phone off. 5.push the volume button up ( like your making it louder) while holding the button push and hold the power button. 6.this will bring you to a white screen with some options. 7. use your volume up and down buttons to select bootloader from the list. 8.once you select it(highlight) push the power button. 9. you will be at a new screen, select/highlight the recovery option and push the power button again. 10. now you should be in recovery mode. 11. select flash .zip from sdcard or it may say apply update zip and then push the power button.at the bottom of the screen it should say push power button to install or any other button to abort. 12. push power button and watch the install. it's going to reboot a few times so just set the phone down and walk away.

If it has clockworkmod than it should work like this
Using Clockwork Recovery console
Disconnect the USB cable and reboot the phone into HBOOT mode (power off, then hold volume down key and press-hold power on key).
HBOOT will scan for the ESPRIMG.zip file (and some others), then present you with 4 options: Fastboot, Recovery, Simlock and Clear Storage.
Press volume down key to select Recovery, and press power key to apply.
This will take you to a screen with a black background, a picture of a phone and a big red exclamation mark.
Press and hold the Volume Up key, then whilst still holding Volume Up, press the Power key. This will take you to a secret yellow menu with a few options (you may also get an error like E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command, it's ok to ignore this one).
Press Volume Down to scroll the list and highlight Apply sdcard:update.zip. Press the Power button to activate.
This will flash the update.zip file we copied to the root of the memory card, which activates a custom tool called the Clockwork Recovery. Clockwork lets us do many things, including making full phone backups, and installing unsigned ROM images. Clockwork gets wiped every time you reset the phone. So to use it, you must always reboot into HBOOT mode, choose Recovery, activate the hidden menu and apply the update.zip as above. You will be doing this multiple times, so get used to it.
If that doesn't work than you need to put http://dl.dropbox.com/u/642364/slideroot/update.zip that in your sd card
After you flash Clockwork Recovery for the first time, you should download Rom Manager, and in it will have an option that says "Reboot into Recovery", and once you select that, it will take you directly to Clockwork, so no more constant reflashing

Ok first we need some info.
What rom and android version are you on?
Are you s-off?
Are you rooted?
Do you have busybox and the su app installed?
You must first root your phone. This easiest way to do this on a DROID Incredible is using unrEVOked... head to the unrEVOked site to root your phone, then it will install Clockwork Recovery, thus getting you one step further to installing CM7.

If you used unrevoked and it compleeted without error then you should be fully rooted and s-off, and have clockwork mod recovery. I'm not sure why rom manager wont work, however it is not recomended to use rom manager to install a rom anyways.
First go to menu settings applications and make sure fastboot is not checked.
Go to your sdcard and delete any PB31IMG.zip files, and make sure the cyanogenmod rom zip is on there.
Power off the phone and wait a couple secs.
Hold down the volume down button and the power button untill a white screen appears (hboot). Note at the top it should say s-off, if it says s-on you can stop here and report back.
Use vol down key to scroll to recovery, and the power button to select.
Recovery will pop up with a screen of options. Navigate up and down with the volume keys and press the trackball to select, press power button to go back.
If you dont have a backup made i would start by doing so, select backup & restore and then backup.
Next go to the mounts and storage menu and format everything availabe except emmc and sdcard. Then go to the advanved menu and whipe dalvik-cache.
Select install zip from sdcard and then navigate to the cyanogen mod zip and select it. This will install the rom.
Once its done installing select reboot phone and it should boot up to cyanogen.
Note that this first boot may take a long time up to 15 minutes so be patient. Once bootet you will need to install the super user app and busybox to regain root.
it's also possible you may need to update your superuser app as well
i rooted my Dinc. with unrevoked almost a year ago,
Diego method did not work.
so,
i went to menu - settings - applications,
i do not see fastboot?
and
pressed manage applications,
SD card is empty.

Place the su.zip on your sd card in no folders.
Power off the phone and hold down the vol down button and power button untill a white screen appears (hboot). Wait for a couple secs while it looks for some files and then use the vol down button to highlight "recovery" and the power button to select.
You should now be in recovery.
Use vol up and down buttons to navigate, power button to go back, and press the trackball to select.
Select "install zip from sdcard" and then "choose zip from sdcard" and then select the "su.zip". Select "yes" to confirm the install.
Once finished back out to the main recovery screen and select "reboot system now".
Thats it you should now have the latest superuser app and binary.
mine is SU v2.3.6,
which version is the newest?
and
flashed CWM recovery,
updated to CWM 5.0.2.0.

Ive searched/read all related threads created and don't seem to see this issue posted.
I have a droid incredible rooted using clockwork recovery v2.5.1.2 for a long time now, all of a sudden when i boot into clockworkmod it wont let me select anything from the menu...
when you hit power button it goes to black screen, hit the power button again it goes right back into recovery menu.
simply trying to factory reset the phone to let someone else use it.
Thnx in advance for any help Dominick
The power button didn't allow you to select options in CWM, use the optical button.
If that doesn't work, you need to reflash CWM through hboot by downloading the recovery file from pvillecomp.com and renaming the file to: PB31IMG.zip

Hello,
I've installed cmw, but when i boot inside cmw i can move up, down, press power, but if i press power i get a blank screen (or a static screen with the icon, depending on the cmw version). there is an error too, when starting cmw, saying "pc49img.zip not found or wrong". Maybe something didn't work? What can i do? I tried flashing everything with no success. it seems root is working and i can start android, but no cmw for flash a new rom. I have the default 2.2.1.
Thank you all for the help!

no worries- all good. Fastboot just checks if there's a file to flash (by fastboot itself - not clockworkmod) it's normal - nothing wrong, it's just the message that it didn't find anything to flash.
Just flash a ROM and enjoy
Swyped from my HTC Wildfire (Buzz)
Oh thanks! It works! Damn, I was using the power button for hours!
Its called CWM by the way not CMW

just to make sure (hint: you generally should be a bit more specific in your description): you mean if you
- choose Recovery from the Fastboot menu with volume keys (after Fastboot has been finnishing loading)
- hit power to select Recovery
- move to "install zip from sdcard" with volume keys inside Clockworkmod
- hit the trackball to choose "install zip from sdcard"
If you have done all that you most likely should try to reflash Clockworkmod. This should be explained in the guide you did follow.
But - wait a moment - you just mentioned that root seem to be working - how did you find out? What exactly is Fastboot showing (when you boot into Fastboot by holding Volume key down and Power)?
If you have done the process by Revolutionary it should say something like that:
Code:
-Revolutionary- (white on magenta/pink background)
BUZZ PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-6.01.1002
...
