Hi all,
I've been having a problem with my Desire Z! Every time I press home after using my browser to follow a Twitter or Facebook link, the phone does a sort of mini reset, shows the green HTC logo on white background and then starts loading my Home Screen from scratch! The only theory I gave so far is that I have too many apps open and its clearing the cache! Otherwise I'm stumped and its really annoying!
Hope someone can help!

Sounds like rosie. What launcher are you using?
Sent from my HTC Vision
Launcher? It's just stock Sense running Group, no mods or updates! The browser is Dolphin HD!
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Thats just the Sense launcher (also known as 'rosie') re-loading. Its pretty memory hungry compared to other launchers. So it gets dropped from memory sometimes, if memory gets full, and has to re-load if you press home.
But this shouldn't be happening very frequently. Do you keep lots of things running in the background? Large web pages in the browser, and/or multiple browser tabs open can also take up lots of memory.
Mainly only my email client, Twitdroyd, Facebook and the browser, I suppose the browser does have a few pages open, and they aren't mobile web pages but full pages! I'll try exiting my browser more often, that clears the cache!
Thanks for the quick reply dude, ill keep ya informed if the frequency reduces!

another thing to try would be a different launcher. stock sense launcher is too much of a hog for me. i prefer adw, golauncher, or stock gingerbread launcher over rosie
How do I get the phone to override sense to use a different launcher? Can I uninstall it completely?

I think that'll break Sense so can't be done. I guess you could install another launcher over the top of it.
I'm wondering if there is a memory leak in Dolphin HD. I've got my phone into some states memory wise before and its never closed Rosie. You're not using a task killer are you?
Craig
Just download a launcher from market and when you press home, it'll ask which one to use and if you want to set it as default..

Yeah I've got task-killer, but not had this prob b4!
Won't running another launcher create more memory problems?
Craig
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Task killer is probably closing it then. It depends on what it thinks it can unload to free memory.
There are many arguments about 2.2 and task killers. I do just fine without one, 2.2 can manage its own memory pretty well. Maybe try uninstalling the task killer and see what happens.
If you have an alternative launcher, it shouldn't load the Sense launcher so it won't affect memory much. You'll probably gain as the Sense launcher is quite hungry.
Craig
Cheers mate, just installed LauncherPro, got some better features than Sense, I really want to get rid of sense all together cos the Facebook and Twitter contact are pissing me off!
Anyway, cheers for the quick reply, am happy atm with Launcher Pro!

If you want to get rid of Sense completely, you need to root, S-Off, and flash a different ROM. Sense is too intertwined with the entire ROM to remove, without breaking it.
I personally like the combination of a Sense ROM, with a alternate launcher (I use ADW EX). Certainly a matter of personal taste. But the Sense camera app is better than stock (and 3rd party camera apps I've tried), and I like the aesthetics, and some of the other features of Sense. But I agree the Sense launcher is just too memory (and CPU?) hungry.
But its also not that hard to root, and try other ROMs, to see if you like one without Sense (known as AOSP ROMs).
I'd remove the task killer. They can cause more harm than good. And as already mentioned, Android manages memory just fine without help from a 3rd party app.

Do I need any task killer or they are just taking memory & slowing down the phone ?
Everytime I open it I have a hole bunch of apps running & some will open right away before I Evan exit the task killer ?
I tried most task killers but nothing seams to actually work properly .

I would not recommend using a task killer. Android OS has a built in task killer that will kill apps if they're taking up too much memory. Using a task killer, more often than not, can actually INCREASE battery usage instead of helping it.

No. That's a common misconception brought on by Android Haters. Unless you install random third party apps that seem sketchy, you won't need to worry about any viruses. On top of that, any app that is infected is sandboxed from other ones so they could ONLY affect that app and not others. But the point of this post is no, you won't have to worry about anything. Android is actually pretty safe
many apps you think are running (you see them in the task killer) are not actually running but rather just cached so that they can be opened faster. This is how Android works. True the caching takes up a small amount of memory but you're not wasting CPU cycles on those apps.
Wow thx that's good to know .
Thx to you all here @ XDA you guys ROCK !!!

I have a HTC Dream G1, rooted and have been using it for sometime now. I recently threw on an older version of the CyanogenMod as it seemed to work best for me.
Firmware 2.1 update 1
CyanogenMod 5.0.7-DS
My question is "Does anyone else have issues with their live wallpapers not staying set as the wallpaper" I currently have Launcher on with a theme and live wallpapers can be set, but do not stay. As soon as I lock my phone and bring it back again, it reverts back to a default wallpaper. I got a bunch off applanet for free, so it should work. Everything else on my phone works fine. Just wanting to ask before I go crazy trying to figure this out.
Thanks
live wallpapers not showing
I had the same problem. I just moved them to the phone memory and they stopped disappearing. They take lots of memory though.
Do a search for firerat's all-in-one patch.
That fixed it for me.
But,...........................
As earlvr mentioned, it is a memory hog for a G1, since the G1 has precious little memory to begin with.

Probably better to use our precious memory for applications instead of fancy backgrounds... but would be nice to impress others

Yeah, with only 192MB of RAM, there ain't much memory to go around.

So overwhelmed by all the roms, I am looking for one which is closest to the original without all the Sprint crap. I tried just rooting and uninstalling Sprint's crap but something keeps crashing Android. So now I am looking for a rom that has all the great features as the original but not of the bloatware. If possible I would love 4g to work, 3g is bogged to hell here in Houston and I find myself using 4g a lot.
There are a few in the dev section. I can't remember the names, but Brad (developer) makes a good one. Fresh 4.3.3 is what I'm using. Stock, bloat removed (installable from sd card)
We're comin from a pure power source.
Stock rooted roms without bloat. There's a few in the development section.

Try Swagged Out Stock. Exactly what you are looking for.
IMHO, Fresh is the best none sprint stock rom there is.
SPRINT LOVERS Rom is my personal favorite. Most of the apps/widgets that were left in the Rom are uninstallable, this way you can decide which ones to use or not.

Back again, I have been using a rooted stock rom still and over the last 2 weeks the phone has gotten really laggy and slow. Again I have looked at your suggestions but none really stood out. I have been using ADWLauncher EX and love it and I am using Beautiful widgets for my clock. I would love to get rid of Blockbuster, Nascar, Qik Video and Sprint Football Live. I like the HTC texting program and HTC's people program. I have found a rom that is very basic, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1412005&page=2 but it doesn't include these 2 items, if you could suggest apps that work much the same that would work. I like being able to send a text over 160 characters and the HTC texting allows that I also like the speed dial feature which stock android doesn't have. Any help would be very appreciated.

Thank you very much.
So I'm using the Mimicry 1.5.0 ICS ROM, and when I downloaded Facebook, it looks all zoomed in. Its hard to explain so I guess you'll have to see for yourself. I've tried multiple times uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I've erased and re installed the ROM and it always comes out this way. Hopefully someone can find a fix for me. And i've tried using FriendCaster, but I would much rather prefer the Facebook app instead, so please don't suggest apps. Thanks in advance!
Please!

I am suffering from the same issue. This weird zoom-in thing happens also on my current rom "cm10 testbuild-120". It was same on Mimicry 1.5 as mentioned above. Pics through the news feed doesn't look properly and overflow my screen. On my friend's nexus and desire c with stock sense, there seems to be no problem with app layout or another issue. Any help appreciated, please

Good to see I'm not the only one with that issue. They really have to fix it because its really annoying and I've tried using friend caster and I don't like it compared to the Facebook app.

Hello guys,
my phone's dialer and phonebook has become very slow.
Sometimes it even takes 10 seconds to load.
I have already turned off all the synchronizations.
There are no facebook or gmail contacts in my phonebook.
I have 400 contacts stored in my phone.
What could be the problem ?
from app drawer, hold the dialer icon. then go into app info and from there 'clear data'. do this for people also...(contacts will not be deleted)
Thanks for your reply.
I've tried your suggestion, but it's still not working.
It's because you have 400 contacts

Running PACman ROM with Titanium KISS Kernel..
No problems with Dialer/Contacts app.... I had a vCard file which had >500 contacts.. but it doesn't lag..

Telling the ROM and Kernel would be a great help....

Hello,
I've got the same problem with stock Sense, also there was a lag sometimes with medium-heavy load when I've been trying to call. The weird is my friend with ONE X got the same problem, so we thought it was our country's network, but since I changed to maxwen-Lloir's CM10 it is running like charm.
I think it maybe HTC sense's problem.......
Sent from my HTC One V using xda premium
Yes it's that yucky Stock Sense problem..
All the HTC One Series have the same problem..... It lags!
Root and flash some other ROM.... and if you want Sense, flash myONEv RC 7.0fx+! I'm amazed to see it's speed... Phonebook/Dialer app is exactly same but it's really fast!
Thanks for your replies guys.
No, I am not using any custom ROMs, just the default HTC Sense.
And I don't want to void my phone's warranty.
You can find so much third party apps for
contacts I prefer --->Ex-dialer

I know that bro.
And I have already tried couple of third party dialers but that did not help.
I have deleted all the apps cache and removed some unwanted apps.
And guess what, now the dialer is taking good 15-20 seconds after touching the call button.:crying:
Root it. : it will help u.

I had this same issue with AOKP but not to that extreme extent. There was a slight lag just noticeable enough to be irritating. I tried flashing different versions of gapps but ultimately just gave up. I don't believe it's a contact issue because I don't have the least bit of a problem with the stock dialer.
