The volume down + power is the same on my device.
What happens if you instead of vol up/down + power use trackpad center + power ?
Never thought of it until my bootloader was bricked.
And what I meant in the first post was....
take out the battery, no cables connected.
then but in the battery and use vol up + power, then at least I get 3 beeps, and the charge led flashes repeatedly until I pull the battery again.
In this mode when I connect the phone to my puter it shows as a Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM device.
Unless I'm totally lost, the phones have Qualcomm CDMA Tech. MSM chipset 7xxx, Arm v7 CPU and Adreno GPU.
Thinking out loud from here.
Is it possible to use the mentioned mode, with some drivers and software to actually get some control over the chipset, nand chip etc. ?
If this is possible it should be a walk in the park to dd/flash a new HBOOT.
If someone can answer the question, please do.
I have a ticket with HTC Global contact system now, trying to sort out some of this, hopefully they can throw some light on the issue.

You hit the nail on the head. This is what is called "JTAG mode", and is similar to the G1's "blue light mode" that you get by turning it on with trackball and power. This is how HTC unbricks phones. If you can find all the JTAG connector points on the inside of the phone, then technically yes, you can change out absolutely anything you want. But it's not that simple
Here's surgery for the G1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eITMEEF_AIc
Ok, so I've ordered myself a JTAG Riffbox now, with some JTAG adapters som start with.
Looking forward to getting them and playing around with my old HTC Hero
And off course even more excited to a release of some pinout info on the Vision/Z

Do you have any idea if it would be possible to use software and USB cable to the phone to unbrick it ?
I'm thinking, not being locked to the use of a JTAG adapter&box.
any progress ? i have also bricked by desire Z, and i also got to that mode but dont know what to do from there

I also have that.
You have found a fix yet?
No fix for now, it seems like the developers / JTAG people has abanonded the Desire Z/G2 and moved on to newer phones, they have pinouts for the newer desire s, but the Z/G2 has nothing for now that is, I really hope they figure out AND shares the pinout, at least for us who bought the JTAG adapter and stuff.

Hey guys,
Please stop PM'ing me about APX Mode. I get like 10 PM's a day.
How to get in
Nobody really knows. The most common way has been pressing volume up and down together while device is off and then plugin USB while connected to a computer.
How to get out
When your device is in APX Mode, HTC fixes it in repair. Someone here on XDA PM'd me with this video and said it should work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsnl_LIgzt0
I have not tried it myself, so just give it a try and share with the rest.
All the other discussions about APX can be done here, please stop pm'ing me.
Thank you!
Pressing vol up and down while phone is off works only on some devices. Some pm'd me about getting into apx mode with this. PC will recognize the device as "APX something something"
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I too have joined the APX club.
I bought the phone off eBay, with a damaged screen not displaying anything.
When plugged into USB, it would charge, and the PC recognized it as a HTC One X.
When playing with the buttons, I could hear the startup tone.
Since fitting the new screen- very carefully - the phone has gone into the APX mode.
The charge light has come on once whilst plugged into the computer, after which I swapped it over to the mains charger. The red charging light stayed lit for 10 minutes, then went out.
Since then, I've seen no life whatsoever other than the APX mode.
I have tried the YouTube video above, and many combinations. I have tried charging up the battery directly via a hacked USB cable. I have tried powering on the phone with what I think has been every possible combination. I have tried leaving it plugged in overnight. I have tried plugging in the mains/USB charger while pressing buttons. Something isn't right.
The battery can light up a 3V LED, and today I have just found up a multimeter, so I will check the voltage of the battery as I believe it needs at least 3.6 or 7 volts to start up.
Yesterday I tried speaking to Vodafone, who didn't have any software to flash the HTC other than the publicly available software from the HTC site. I also spoke to Carphone Warehouse, who also didn't have any equipment. Neither assistants or the engineers in the shops had come across the APX mode before.
I'll update this thread with any more of my findings, as it is one of the top results in google and I suggest others do the same. Hopefully together we can work a way out of this without the need to send to HTC.
Try holding the power button for roughly 40 seconds with charger disconnected. It might work.
You could also try "nvflash" reboot commands. Since there's no nvflash package/drivers for the HOX I'd try with the Asus TF packages. Though, I'm pretty sure someone has already tried it without success
Also, are you able to connect the device in adb mode? Adb without being in OS works if you power off, wait couple of seconds an connect it to the PC without powering on. You should see the red led constantly on. If it works try "abd reboot oem-34". I'd appreciate it if you could report if it did work.

Afraid I've tried all that. ADB isn't available, only appears in APX mode.
Phone does nothing.
Only interaction I can have with the phone is to connect via usb, and holding the power button for 10 seconds changes it to APX mode. Otherwise it's an unknown device, for which no drivers are available- I can force drivers onto it, but its hard to tell exactly what it's looking for.
I have also tried the NVflash utility for tegra 3 devices- I have a transformer prime, this is what made me purchase a tegra 3 based phone.
Anyway, the NVflash utility cannot operate with the phone, it merely displays as an unknown device.
No red LEDs, no nothing.
Cronus, trust me, I've tried
Still, I've just popped the battery out and checked the voltage- 2.64V - WAY below where it needs to be- around 3.7 volts to boot up.
I've popped the terminals out of the battery connector, and connected them to the hacked USB on the positive and negative. It's currently plugged in to the HTC wallcharger, and it is charging the battery up.
I'm going to leave it on for an hour, then I'll stick it back in the phone. More updates to come :good:
Just send it to htc or your carrier mate. This happened to me b4 xmas and I sent it back to my carrier. They charged me 76 pounds and gave me a brand new phone even tho they said they had to change a circuit board. Sorry to say this but if everyone that gets their phone into apx mode should sent it to htc so they realise that this is a design fault and not just caused by unlocking the bootloader. Maybe some haven't unlocked and are also experiencing apx mode?

I bought it off eBay, the warranty is void. As far as I know the bootloader hasn't been unlocked, as the previous owner said they'd only had it 5 days before they dropped it on the floor and the screen popped out. But I have had it working properly- I could hear the startup sound being played when I had it.
I've spent £58 on a new screen, to spend another £76 just isn't economical.
The battery is now back in the phone after being charged to 3.8 volts, it still doesn't appear to be doing anything- I'll post back if there are any further developments.
I have found a company which say they have encountered and fixed the APX mode on the HTC One X before - www.uk-repair.com
Quoted me £44 to get it fixed. I've politely requested any information they feel comfortable contributing about the APX mode be posted on the forum.
Fingers crossed
I made an insurance claim for my APX'd phone as it was only £25 excess; it was sent to thefoneclinic.com who have deemed it beyond economical repair so i'm getting a replacement. I'm guessing either something on the motherboard was actually fried or only HTC themselves can recover from APX mode
AW: [HowTo] Getting out of APX Mode
To the people stuck in APX mode; try constantly rebooting. Like powering on hundreds of times. TripNnRaver got his device out of APX this way, but obviously he is stuck in APX again after a reboot. At least he managed to boot into the OS for a short time.

This happened to my phone. Installed Trip's endeavor unleashed v003 and it bricked my htc one x. I kept on rebooting it and managed to get back once to the OS but when I restarted the device again it never go back now its bricked!
I don't know though if my ONE X is on APX mode. I can still go to fastboot and recovery but everytime i copy files thru ADB, from my pc command line it says success but when i try to flash it from clockwork the file i copied isnt there. I tried flashing a different recovery but it seems that the device is readonly and i couldnt delete or write to it.

How to Exit "APX Mode"
(Software Problem)
Hi to all
I have a HTC One X that I took yesterday of my time
With the volume up + volume down + power keys The phone went to the APX Mode
My friend this was a problem that was solved by pressing Key's
I have a problem that had been tried by pressing vol.down + power buttons would solve
Solution
1- Ensure safety of the battery or replace it
2- Connect the phone to the charger for 2 to 4 hours
3- Hold down the vol.Down and power your phone
If the problem is your phone software
Problem with this method is 100% Tested By me
If your problem was solved with this method Please use the thanks button

Its a fictional bubble, apx is not software error, it's hardware and people get out of apx because they are (you) are lucky. Most of the people won't get out, also not with the method you describe. It worked for you so i am happy for you, really. But as you can read this topic exist since the beginning of 2013 at least.
I've said this also in your other thread, and as i said i am really happy for you it worked but it's not like you are on to a major deal here.
Cheers.

I tried your method on two units and unfortunately it does not work.
I succeded to exit to normal usable mode only by heating tegra cpu
with hot air soldering gun, but both units went back to APX . Now both unitis
can be seen in device manager as Nvidia USB device using driver
for nvflash but dont have proper flashing software, last one recognized
devices but returned error. By the way this is my 5th HOX motherboard,
and if u try to buy used motherboard dont do that because all are faulty
and people selling it are laying about history of the device. Buy only
new.
P.S. i didnt succed to exit again with same method (heating)
I really hope i can stop repeating myself now about this topic !
@Mr Hofs is right APX=DEAD HOX only changing mainbord help
were to buy new motherboard

my m8 is bricked, is not in recovery mode, does not enter fastboot, not turn on, only red light blinks when plugging the charger a few times, but the pc recognize me how Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008.
someone I can spend some method to restore the system?
Those symptoms typically mean the phone is bricked. Qualcomm download mode is a bad thing, not a good thing. Were you doing anything to possibly cause this condition, or did it occur spontaneously?

Its possible the update was overwriting something critical like hboot, and some error occurred. Doesn't sound good, between the symptoms described, and the fact an update was being applied.
Try charging for several hours (overnight) on the wall charger (not connected to PC) then try the different button combos (holding each combo for a minute or more): power+vol up, power + vol down, power + vol down and vol up, power by itself.
Try the button combos with and without the charger connected to the phone. If none of that works, I'm inclined to believe the phone is toast. If the phone is stock, applying stock update, and less than a year old, you might have some recourse by warranty (although folks having any kind of warranty is becoming less and less likely as this phone ages).
Otherwise you may try to find a local repair shop that can JTAG the phone.

That's true. Other possible options would a (reputable) repair shop that can replace the motherboard. Or you may see if HTC will do that (for a fee). But as its a US version, I'm not sure HTC will provide that service.

Hi,
I got my daughter a new phone and planned to send in her s9 as AT&T was offering $800 for trade in... She got her new phone set up, then, somehow, her S9 that's been going strong for years, hard bricked itself. I've been all over the internet trying to dig up a solution, but no luck yet....
**Symptoms**
No blinking LEDs
Power + Volume Up: Nothing
Power + Volume Down + Bixby: Nothing (Boot menu screen never comes up)
Plug into computer:
Hear windows USB connect sound
See device in device manager under "Other Devices":"qusb_bulk_cid:0402..."
Unplug from computer:
Hear windows USB disconnect sound
While plugged into comuter:
Power + Vol Down + Bixby: Usb Disconnect / Reconnect Sound, device disappears / reappears from Device Manager (no boot menu)
**What I've tried so far...
FixPpo for Android: Wasted $40. Does not fix hard-bricked phone. If you can't get to the screen you can't get the firmware image onto the phone.
ODIN 3: Does not see the phone in the ID:COM field. Iinstalled the Qualcomm HS-USB drivers and restarted w/ Driver unsigned mode. Phone shows up under Ports (COM & LPT) but ODIN still doesn't see it.
QPST: Can see the phone, but that's all I could seem to do with it.
QFIL: This started out promising, until I needed "Programmer Path" and "Content XML" files, which I can't seem to find for the galaxy S9 (Or perhaps there's a generic Qualcomm one I can't find)
If someone's out there, anywhere, that's been able to resolve this I'd really appreciate some additionl info / links to the right files for QFIL. Or am I SoL if the screen doesn't come up? I feel like we would have seen some symptoms earlier if the screen was starting to burn out vs. just never coming up again...
Thanks in advance,
Steve in Massachusetts, USA
Display dead or software dead
Thanks for the reply...
That's a good question.... I think it's just the software. The phone has been working fine for years, with no degradation or dead pixels, and it wasn't abused or dropped. I've had no luck qith QFIL... was going to attempt Octoplus next, but I don't want to drop $50 for a license if I'm still going to end up bricked. I think QFIL could work if I could get it into download mode, but with no screen that's proving difficult.

Thanks - I did download QFIL, Odin and QPST, but b/c I can't get PC to see it as a modem, Odin doesn't work. I can't get QFIL to work b/c I can't get into download mode. I just blew $50 on Octoplus, but am still waiting for my license key...
I've put $150 into a dead phone... I probably could have got a used one for that if I looked hard enough.

For my eye motherboard is dead
My S9+ died similarly. Was watching a video and suddenly it crashed and stopped working. Came back to life 2 days later just to die again after an hour. Turns out it was old liquid damage from a month prior swim. Popped it open and cleaned it with isopropyl alcohol and it's working now. If you're feeling confident you can try to open it and see if it's liquid damage or anything that a simple fix such as an alcohol clean might fix. But most likely it's a hardware not a software problem. Good Luck.
