[Q] Correct Flashing a rom method? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this seems like a basic question, but I want to install Android Revolution 5.1.9 and as recommended I'm going to flash the 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 radio once I've done the other steps first, can I use the method found here to do it https://webcache.googleusercontent....&client=firefox-a&source=encrypted.google.com. I'm asking because the recommended radio I want to install isn't listed on that page. And how risky is this process? Can it be undone if I need to send my phone back?
Thanks in advance.
Edit: Should say radio and not rom in the thread title, I've had an android phone before and I'm not a complete newbie.

Yes it really is just a matter of following those instructions, please make sure you are radio s_off before flashing the new one or you may find you are unable to downgrade.

Thanks, yeh I know about the s-off, I've been reading up on what to do before I flash a new radio, I'm feeling more confident now

Do nandroid first before flashing. If you have done this, the risk of flashing rom will be reduced to zero.
Flashing radio however can brick your dhd. Just make sure, you double check the MD5 for the radio, and that all the requirement is met (fully charge, htc driver etc)

How do I do a nandroid I've forgotten it's been a while since I owned an android phone.
Edit: I read Rom manager can do it, but the Android Revolution thread (first post) advises not going anywhere near it :/ I also read your phoned already has to be rooted before you can do a nandroid, is this true?

Turn phone off and boot into bootloader (while phone turned off hold down the volume down and press the power button). And select "Recovery" and you go from there.

Ah yes I remember now, and thanks for the quick reply

One more question
I've got one more question, in the event of me not liking the new radio, can anyone provide a link to the radio that comes pre-installed on the Desire HD so I can flash it back over the top if need be, thank you.

[Q] Desire fails to enter recovery

Hi, sorry in advance if I missed solution somewhere but I have tried searching for answers. Either nothing works or problem is slightly different to other reports.
My problem is that following upgrade to CM7 RC, I believe the wrong Google Apps was installed. In a nutshell, now my phone wont boot into Android. I tried booting into recovery, I get to the first screen, and select recovery, phone vibrates and then I get the HTC logo come up and at that point phone freezes with no response until I remove battery.
I have followed various guides re unbricking but to no avail. Issue seems to be that ADB cant identify my phone or no drivers are present to allow me to unbrick. I am running Windows 7 64bit and understand this could be an issue. Please point me to the latest guide in unbricking as there is heaps out there but some very old.
Thanks P
You could try an ruu then root again. Yes it is a pain but might be a faster fix than actually finding a thread. If you can't then look through the Android Development thread. There are a few guides in there somewhere and also look in the Desire Index thread as well

[Q] Problem with Desire Z

Hi folks,
i´ve a problem with a Desire Z from a friend.
Every time when the phone boots, it stops at the HTC Logo.
I think it´s bricked
Is there any possible to flash the Rom (like Odin on Samsung Android Phones)
Thanks
If you power the phone off, then holding down the volume button, press the power button. Does the Hboot screen come up?
Also, you don't give a heck of a lot of info. Is the phone rooted, and/or S-Off? If not, then no, you can't flash a custom ROM.
But you may be able to flash the official ROM from Hboot.
the H Boot screen is this with "bootloader, reboot" and something with the 3 androids ?
when its that, i come into the hboot screen .. i did try the "factory reset" but it hangs on the 3 androids at the middle of the screen
EDIT: The Phone is not rooted, S-on stands there
but how can i flash a official ROM ?
i found one, but it recognize the phone
Since you are not rooted and S-On, you need to use the official ROM that matches your carrier ID (CID).
What ROM did you try?
If you want help, you need to supply as much information as possible. Not just "I tried a ROM".
Seeing as the phone is unrooted, it's unlikely that it's bricked from a user error.
At a guess, it's a Hardware issue, there's a thread here about it.
I had this same issue with my phone, it started freezing completely, and I had to do a battery pull to restart and it would just hang at the htc logo.
Seeing as you don't have clockwork mod though, you won't be able to see the Cache mounting errors, though you should be able to run the adb commands to find the name of your eMMC card if you have adb installed.

Its possible, but also highly speculative. Damage to the ROM, or the ROM missing may also cause the same issue (stuck on boot splash).

You're in (possibly) better shape then the OP. Try flashing any known good ROM from Hboot/recovery. Preferably a rooted ROM, if you want to stay rooted.
But its possible you may have something more going on than a bad ROM file, like mentioned in post #5 above.
i couldn´t find a tutorial how to flash the desire Z im H-Boot mode ?
can u give me a tutorial !?

Problems with Wifi [Not scanning]

Hi guys,
This is my first thread here in XDA, so, forgive me by a possible mistake.
I recently bought a HOX, the seller said that is the international version.
I'm in 4.0.3, with software version 1.29.707.11 (already checked for updates, but phone says its up to date)
So, sometimes when i turn my wifi on, he doesn't connect in my network (already saved), i go to wifi settings, put to scan, and, aparently, the phone don't scan the networks and doesn't found my network too.
Obviously, im on the range of the network, and don't have that factory problem with bad wifi signal.
And, sometimes too, phone takes a lot of time to get carrier signal, so i turn on plane mode, then turn off, and finally get carrier signal.
My question is: is this normal? What can i try to fix it? (Thinked on a factory reset)
I don't tried anything yet.
If anyone could help, i'll appreciate and if the thread is on the wrong place, please move it
Just try flashing the RUU, which will delete everything and return it to stock.

I am VERY noob in HTC tools, can you say me what exactly is this "RUU", and where i can get it?
Its basically, a factory reset right? What is the difference from normal FR to this RUU tool?

The difference is that it will reflash the ROM from scratch, it's the first thing HTC do when you take your phone for repair. It's very safe (when flashed with decent remaining battery) and very thorough.
Check the Shipped ROM sticky in the development section.
I am searching about the Rom Update Utility, but i'm not finding a good tutorial to follow, explaining the whole process.
If anyone could help me in the process
Edit:
Thanks again Pope! I'll look in dev section
You just have to charge the phone, put the phone in fastboot mode (hold down the volume down key when switching on the phone, then navigate from there), plug phone into Windows PC and double click RUU.
You may want to do an "adb backup" (you'll have search for this) beforehand, flash RUU, test and then restore.

This "restore" you mean in the end, its the factory reset in the phone? Or another restore?
Don't need a backup, i got the phone 2 days ago hehehe
My HOX is totally clean.
No unlocked bootloader, no root.
This will not be a problem doing the flash with the stock RUU right?

Ben sorry for tons of questions hehe
I'm reading a tutorial, and on it said that i need my CID number, in order to download the correct RUU file for the correct region of my HOX. How can i know if this RUU you posted is the correct for my HOX?
I've tried to get my CID number (downloaded the fastboot flasher tool) but when i put the cid command he returns: CID > None lol
I Know that my HOX is from Shangai (has a SH in serial number) and got my MID number.
So, i just need to know which file i need to download, the right one of course hehehe
If i will need the CID to know, i'll ask for the files for fastboot commands (i don't found them)
If not, just confirm the link you posted ealier if its the correct RUU for my case.
PS.: This link posted is only for premium users, and i don't have a premium acc, can you provide in another mirror?
You can't flash the wrong RUU, the phone won't let you.
You don't need your CID as you are not unlocked, knowing that you are 1.29.707.x is enough. It's the right RUU.
I'm sure you don't need me to hold your hand whilst you use google to find that file somewhere else. The sticky dev thread I previously mentioned will likely have a ton of mirrors for the file.
So.. i'll look fot the file in other places.
Today, i've connected in my wifi network, and the phone says there's an update...
It's the same update announced days ago, but in my case with a different update number...
Phone has been upgraded to ICS 4.0.4 and Sense 4.1.
If the problems persist, i will flash the RUU anyway, but, because of this update, nothing changes right? The RUU file you posted still valid for my HOX?
Not any more, you've updated your hboot, so you'll need an updated RUU (you can't install on older hboot, packaged with an older RUU).

Cannot access recover mode

So I've been trying to root my dads old Desire for a while now, with no success - it is locked to o2 and I'm on Orange. I didn't really want to pay to unlock it, and rooting it would have been nice. I've done two phones before, so I figured it shouldn't be too bad. Eventually I discovered it was HBOOT 1.03, and this was the problem, so the solution was to backdate the software to an earlier version (the phone is still S-ON and I cannot get this thing to take ANYTHING)
I was trying to roll back from Froyo to 2.1.
The current problem is that now the phone will not boot. With a simple turn-on it just sits at the white HTC screen, or if you go into Hboot it tries (what I assume is) 'fastboot' and checks the PB99IMG.zip file on the SD card. If I say I don't want to update and go to 'recovery' it loads the screen with the exclamation mark in a triangle in it. The problem here is that pressing up+power does nothing. I've tried a quick press, and a long hold multiple times, and with no result except the first time. Unfortunately I didn't go through the proceedure the first time, assuming it'd work again. Damn!
If I start the update it says 'can not roll back the hboot version'. It also fails on the radio_v2.
Any help will be much appreciated, and if you need any details (I've probably missed something) please ask!
Thanks

If it fails with Radio_v2, then it's a radio brick, and that's the reason it won't boot. I'm afraid you can't do much, due to the hboot version.

The one step here I'm halted by is producing a Goldcard - the link to the website on the tool doesn't work any more (I've scoured t'internet, and that's the general consensus). Any idea where else I can input the CID to get a Goldcard Image?

Just realized that it wouldn't work, because you have to boot your phone for the downgrader tool.
You could try something else. Unlock your bootloader using the HTC Dev site :http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader, and then try installing a custom recovery.

Bricked HTC One M8

Hi
Please can anyone help please?
Got a HTC One M8 on o2. I installed a custom rom (Viper One) and used it fine for over a year.
I've since changed to a S6 edge and wanted to revert my old phone back to stock rom unrooted.

Well the easiest way without going through any hassle to fix your phone and make it Stock/Like Brand New is to run a RUU.
I will explain how to do this process with a PC and you should be good to go :good:
1. Download HTC drivers for your PC if you haven't already Here, install and uninstall HTC Sync Manager while KEEPING "HTC Driver Installer".
2. Download the RUU that best matches your phone Here, you can possibly find a O2 RUU on xda but I did not find one my self for you unfortunately, otherwise if your phone is a GSM variant phone you can flash the international RUU from Here (Instructions would be different in this case)
3. Get your phone into bootloader by TWRP or if your phone is off then hold down VOL DOWN and POWER BUTTON at the same time until HBOOT shows up.
4. Plug your device via USB into the computer and verify that you see "Fastboot USB" on your phone's screen.
5. Run the RUU .exe file, I recommend you "Run as Administrator".
6. Follow the on screen instructions and sit back 10-20 minutes as your phone becomes brand new, do not interupt the process or you could have a permanent phone brick.

Seems (from the vague description) that a few things went wrong:
1) You may have been proceeding without the proper knowledge of how to return to stock, and at least somewhat, "making it up" as you went along or "experimenting". This is not the proper way to go about things when modding (or in this case "unmodding") a phone. Stick to specific instructions and guides, as already pointed out the process to return to stock is well documented.
2) No degree of wiping or factory resets is going to restore a stock ROM, if you have a custom ROM installed (if that is what you were trying to do); which is a somewhat common misconception. Also, wiping things without understanding the result is a bad idea. The Wipe options are called "Advanced" for a reason. If you don't understand what it is (or the results of wiping it) than don't do it.
The process to return to working stock has been outlined by others. But if you want more specific help, you will need to do a getvar all and post the output (being sure to delete your IMEI and serial number, as those are personal info) so we can better determine the way forward. But in summary, you have 2 choices:
a) Relock the bootloader and run the proper RUU, of one exists for your CID version.
b) Restore the stock nandroid that corresponds to your CID and main version (firmware), then flash the correct corresponding stock recovery.

What did you do ?
Do you have right RUU ? Can you give the RUU name that you are using ?
I saw you use a ROM.zip .. AFAIK your O2 RUU is an exe file.
You also need USB 2.0 and latest HTC USB Drivers installed.
Do i need to re lock the bootloader first?
