So my friend and I will be going on a road trip soon across the great USA. Buffalo to Yosemite.
I have my Dinc and he just got an Asus Transformer and a Droid X2. We are obviously going to have a nice set up in our car with all this fancy tech. But we were wondering what the best apps were for such a road trip. We will be using Navigation, Pandora, My Tracks.
What would be the best real time weather application? Any other suggestions as to what we should use? Thanks in advance everyone!
Also, all our devices are rooted.
Weather Bug Elite is solid imo. Enjoy the ride!

I just got back from a long road trip and the one app i used the most was 'GasBuddy'. Saved me some money. Also 'Yelp' for places to eat with good reviews.
Urbanspoon is a good one too

Games will be of most importance! I will be checking those out.
That Gas Buddy app seems awesome so far. And it is quite accurate. We will be using that one!
See if you can still find the speed trap/traffic camera app.
Flight Control is an addictive game as well.

Dont forget about trapster it shows where cops hide....
MapDroyd - - just in case you find yourself in a no-signal area and want to know where you are. Unlike most mapping software, MapDroyd stores the map data locally (load the desired region(s) before the trip), and can use your GPS sensor.

I love ICS, especially for the small things like the Google Music controls on the lock screen (even the secure lock screens). but, it makes their podcast app Listen look even more dated than it already was.
i know there are quality third part podcasting apps, but you guys think Google will touch this soon? Will they add features like speed control, drag-able organization, and quick controls on the lock screen? Or will they finally integrate podcasts into Google Music?
Anyone have any insight?
As far as I can tell, Listen is dead. A good replacement which I use is Pocket Casts. It's well worth the low price.
BeyondPod has my vote for best podcast Manager.
I just have it use my Google Reader feeds to transition from Listen.

Beyond Pod is what I use as well. Not a real polished app but definitely gets the job done. Easy to setup and can automatically download new podcasts and delte old ones from storage.

What makes BeyondPod so much nicer than Listen? I mean i'm open to paying for a great app and such, but Listen has yet to demonstrate any huge flaws that I've felt the need to replace it.
Very curious what has made others dump Listen/pay for a replacement.
i love listen but since labs has been shut down so is further development of listen. i still use it though. im just very used to it.

I got it for free via Amazon's App Store promotion. However I feel bad for getting it for free now. Apparently, Amazon asked them if they wanted to be a part of the Free promotion; Amazon gave them a bunch of numbers about why this would be good for pocket casts, how it would increase sales overall, yadda yadda yadda. Well after the promotion, they obviously had a TON of new users (all of whom did not pay nor did Amazon pay PocketCasts), but they really did not make any money and instead had to find ways to support all these new users. With that said, I probably never would have downloaded (and tried) the App, so while I didn't specifically give them money, I recommend it all the time and encourage users to buy it. I'm super upset that Google cancelled updates/support for Listen but I can at least hope that 3rd party developers such as pocket casts can cash-in.

So sad that Google doesn't support Listen anymore.
I've tried almost every similar app but I always go back to Listen for one reason: no other app lists podcasts by date/time added.
I hate the way some apps place the number of unlistened items next to the podcast's name, forcing you to check every item individually. I just want a single, chronological list.

Listen was abandoned long before Labs was axed. The affiliated Google Groups page was forsaken by the developers 12+ months ago.
This is especially curious since Google Analytics must show how widely used it is.

I think it is definitely work the $7. Very well put together game and it is working great on my stock device.
My only gripes are the method of moving and in some areas, the quietness. As in some areas don't have any background music. Everything else is magnificent.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
I'm loving it so far. Voice acting is great. Biggest gripe is it's too quiet. Other issue is horrible frame rate drops in the main city. I know the T3 can handle it better than that.
Edit 1: Seems that frame rate is unstable and choppy most of the time, except when looking straight up or straight down lol.
First Impressions:
+ Worth the money
+ Graphic is great. Great scaling (huge monsters!) standard Unreal fluff (bloom, texture, etc.) are all there.
+ Story telling and voice acting is superb. In-game graphic cutscenes are great and mix with comic-style art is balanced.
+ Fighting control is intuitive and easy to learn. Or at least familiar.
+ Look control is great and customizable.
+ Lots of attention to details with the journals and info.
= Roam movement controls is a little odd, but fairly easy to learn
= Jumping and scaling control also has a learning curve, but it's a matter of preference
- I'd prefer D-Pad (a la Dead Trigger or Eternity Warrior 2) movements
- Related to above, no auto-path movement. If I'm standing at a corner, looking at the wall, and touch the other side of the wall, Horn isn't going to go around the corner. He's just going to try to run into the wall. So you have to look to your left/right, move forward to clear the corner, then look around again and move forward.
- Water graphic and other are not as crazy as the hype. No anti-aliasing whatsoever. Medium texture quality.
- No Exit Game button? Just hit Home button from Main Menu?
That's all for now. I'm sure I'll come up with a few more later. I barely entered the village and look around there.
For all experiencing issues with "license not found", launch the game from Play Store instead of the shortcut. Do it a couple times or so and exit properly (?), then try the shortcut again. It should work now.

In app purchases are available to help you "cheat" at getting material to upgrade your weapons. Completely non intrusive, they don't hamper the game at all. You can probably blame Zynga for forcing it in there though.
Just finished my first play session and I love it so far. My only complaint has to be the water. Everything else is so beautiful, why skimp on the water effects?

Install My Tracks (it's a Google app). Works great, you don't need 3g service for it to work and can load GPX track files from your SD card.

As I have 0 programming knowledge for computers at this time and with God's good grace starting school for it in the winter quarter it does interest me however I fear by the time I am proficient enough the development of this phone and thereby this thread will be long dead. I do want to root the phone and perhaps install a ROM that removes everything but the core of what it needs to operate and a very few apps. As I have two I could use one for GPS/MP3 duty for the motorcycle. So all I'd need is the basic operating system wifi a MP3 downloaded and a good local GPS software. I would think that the GPS software alone would take quite a bit of space.

CoPilot GPS stores its maps on your sdcard (North America maps take up about 1.3 Gb) and does a mostly acceptible job of navigating without using mobile data. The free version is a bit crippled, but what do you expect for free? Street address searches and POI searches also work well even without mobile data, ideal for a non-activated phone.
Another app I use sometimes is Navfree USA. It uses Open Street Maps, so they can be hit or miss. Also, searching by street addresses is mostly broken (Open Street Maps doesn't seem to handle postal codes well). Maps are downloaded state-by-state.
So what can be removed without destroying the os? I need only GPS functions bluetooth WiFi and audio.
Perhaps gmail and the play store. Unless I can use the play store without gmail. Is there a ROM I can flash that is already slimmed way down.

I don't know how much you may hit the track on your motorcycle, but here are a few suggestions that you can find on the play store.

Looks like an app I may pay for. Even if im not on a track it will still help as there are a few places on my commute I tend to open up and ride hard. Makes my ride home quicker. Seems it could also be used to log top speed and 1/4 mile times. So a lot of useful features.
