[Q] GoldCard maker down, also RUU 110 - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I should be very grateful for any help.
Firstly, the website for the Desire goldcard image creator is down. All (current) Desire goldcard creator guides seem to point at http://psas.revskills.de/?q=goldcard which is giving a 404 error. Can anybody advise on a different method of creating the image, either another utility or manually? Thank you.
Secondly I've had major problems with my Desire and would appreciate any support. I've done plenty of searching and nothing helps. I rooted it via unrevoked, S-Off via alpharev, and provider unlocked it using the ISO tool.
Having had some stability issues I decided to RUU back to the original using the Froyo 02 RUU from shipped roms. However when I run it I got "ERROR [110]: FILE OPEN ERROR" at the point "updating system... 80%"
This has happened once before on my Desire; I sent it back under my insurance / warranty. This has now happened again on the replacement.
I've done lots of searching around and tried all sorts but not much seems to be working.
I've tried redownloading RUUs, various ones from shipped roms and running them (it's not a corrupted RUU download, I'm relatively certain) and I either get the same error 110 at the same point or I get a CID error. I don't have a goldcard and am unable to create one due to the creator webpage being down.
Flashing PB99IMG.zip downloaded from shipped roms, flashing using FASTBOOT, comes up with incomprehensible gibberish on the screen and no apparent effect on my desire.
If I run "fastboot oem boot" the device successfully boots into unrooted O2 branded Froyo ROM, but unrevoked or other rooting procedures don't work due to the lack of ability to get to hboot and the lack of goldcard. On reboot, I get the same HTC "bricked" logo with a warning triangle in each corner and have to "fastboot oem boot" again.
Any assistance offered would be very gratefully received indeed! Thank you.

Ah, the goldcard maker / web server must have been having a temporary glitch (couple of hours), it's back up now. I've made a goldcard and have successfully installed a WWE RUU. Relief!
Anybody else with error 110... good luck, I wish there was a reliable solution.
Thank you

The site seems to be working now, well at least for me its working.

[Q] Can I recover to factory from "bricked" ROM?

Hello,
I'm posting a new thread as everything I've seen (naturally) refers to rooting and flashing with custom ROMs etc. I merely want to recover to factory status in order to regain use of my Desire!
I bought an unbranded HTC Desire in July in New York. I'm now in Zambia until end November for work so can't go back to shop. My Desire got the OTA update to Android 2.2 and was working just fine. I've never rooted or flashed it.
But now it's not booting - white screen with HTC, one buzz, then nothing - have to pull battery to stop it. Sometimes it gives seven buzzes.
I have started it into Fastboot and connected USB, confirming USB connectivity using "fastboot devices" from my PC.
But running downloaded RUU from PC gets 170 USB connectivity error. Using adb also won't connect.
I (for now) don't want to root it, I am happy to flash it with the original WWE ROM to restore the phone to factory. Can I do this by putting a PB99img.zip on the SD card? Must I use a goldcard?
Most online guides (though excellent) are for rooting or rooted devices and custom ROMS. I'd greatly appreciate some advice on how to proceed to simply restore my Desire to factory ROM.

What's my best way forward (well, back, actually)?!
To answer your question simply: yes you can just use the zip file, if the ruu doesn't work. Whether you will need a goldcard or not is relying on whether your phone is branded.
If you see any carrier stuff it is definitely branded, but to be sure you can post your software number here

Thanks for the reassurance, mortenmhp. My phone is unlocked, carrier free - I bought it in a reputable retailer in New York and happily used it with US, Irish and Zambian SIM cards before it went wobbly on me.
Now, the question is - which ZIP file is best. I've seen several different ROM offered in a PB99img zip - any suggestions on the best, vanilla ZIP to use?
If that succeeds, and I get Android up and running on my Desire, am I safe in assuming that I can then run an RUU executable to fully restore the HTC factory ROMs??
Best regards and thanks,
Ronan
Hi,
ok, success with PB99IMG.zip though the restarts and hangings and 7-vibration boots are still happening. Connecting via USB is problematic. But Android is back on the phone and that's progress!
Trying to upgrade now to a HTC ROM using:
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe
but getting 170 (USB Connection) errors. This, despite successful HTC Sync and again confirming USB ok in Fastboot mode.
Any suggestions on how to overcome this and RUU the device?
Or should I try OTA using WiFi directly from the device?
Thanks!
Ronan
The ZIP files on Shipped-ROMs.com are 1.21 ROMs so you won't be able to put 1.15.405.4 on it as it's older than the one that's on it...you can only put a newer ROM onto the phone (e.g. 2.10.405.2)

RUU 1.15 wont flash - waits for bootloader

Hi
I've downloaded an HTC Europe 1.15 RRU that I used before and worked.
Now, however, it wont flash. I just get to the "waiting for bootloader" and then a "connection error". I tried rebooting into bootloader but then the RRU just counts upto 100 and then tells me there is a connection error.
The difference between now and last time is that I've updated my bootloader to Alpha-Rev bootloader and Clockwork Mod Recovery is installed. The phone is rooted and S-OFF as well.
I'm trying to restore the phone to factory condition in preparation for a return to HTC for repair.
I guess I need to resintall some bootloader and recovery mod?? or is that in the RUU?
Any ideas/advice?

Why do you want to put the FIRST ever RUU back onto your device? Just download the latest RUU (2.29.405.2) by clicking on my signature. This is assuming your phone in unbranded from the start, if not you'll need to get the RUU for your operator
Er, because I said ...
"I'm trying to restore the phone to factory condition in preparation for a return to HTC for repair"
Factory condition means ANY ROM that was meant for the unit - you don't need to go back to the first!!! So long as you're on an x.xx.405.x ROM you'll be fine!!! LMAO!!!
If you just flash the 2.29.405.2 RUU then you're back to stock so the factory will accept it
bloody hell.
saved me a ****ty weekend there pal.
nice1
cheers
will do this tonight and report back.
My HBOOT is 0.93.001 (flashed using alpha-rev clockword mod install utility). Some older RUUs refuse to load (waiting for bootloader and a reboot to bootloader whilst the RRU is still running - doesnt fix the problem). Appears to be waiting for a special signature from the bootloader. Is your link (RRU) likely to work do youo know ??
If you're currently S-OFF, which I assume you are, then get this file instead:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip
It's the same RUU but in ZIP form. Once downloaded remove everything from the name except PB99IMG (so the file is effectively called PB99IMG.zip) and copy it to the root of your SD card. Then boot into HBOOT and it will read the ZIP and ask you to continue. Say yes and once done reboot and you'll be back to stock. Then just remove the ZIP from the SD card and away you go!
Word of advice: I was S-OFF and using the N1Table and the first time I ran this it failed on the System partition and got stuck on the white HTC screen. I left it an hour, ran the PB99IMG again and it completed so if you are on anything other than the stock table I'd go back to that first using the file from AlphaRev before running the ZIP
Either way you should be fine
Yeah S-OFF.
I'm okay with the PB99 - used that when creating gold card and downgrading.
The N1Table stuf is new to me. I'll google that now.
Thanks for the tip and link.
Cheers pal.
**EDIT:
Okay, so N1table is the partition table for sram/nvram chips.
I have not knowingly modified these, but in any event will grab
the stock HTC table just in case. I can only assume the hangup
is generated because the partition table is hardcoded in the RRU
rather than being read in by the RRU - or something like that.
Anyway, thanks once again pal.
[Q] The phone was purchased on the UK Orange network although no branding on the phone (orange square logo and orange applications). The phone was locked to the Orange network and the settings SLIGHTLY different than the unbranded phone my bro has. Will I need to get hold of the Orange RRU before sending to HTC for repair (as in will the IMEI number be registered to Orange or something)?
If it had the Orange ROM on it then you will need that before sending it back...now, an Orange RUU has never surfaced BUT I might know someone getting one today so if I hear anything I'll post back on here.
If you needed a gold card to flash the stock RUU then you will need the Orange RUU
With regards to S-OFF, unless you downloaded and flashed a new table you will still be on the stock Desire one
I used alpha-rev' s-off utility (cant recall the link and didnt save it) but unsure whether the table has been modified. I'll just download the HTC one. Simples.
DAMM. I thought I may need the Orange RUU. Yes, the stock RRU wouldnt install I recall; required a gold card and a bootloader downgrade as I remember. ****!
I've been searching for Orange RUU for months to no avail.
As I said, hold out a day or so as I think someone might be getting it from Orange
Leave it with me...
Acknowledged
My gracious thanks in advance.
Good luck!
Eddy if you get a stock Orange RUU you will be god . Hope you get it.

Hang on; dya mean its possible to create an RUU or backup of a branded Orange phone - as indeed I had before I rooted et.al. ? Oh no, could I have created one - surely not ?

Nice1 Eddy. The ZIP did the trick. The RRU method didnt work but I expected that as it was looking for an original HBOOT signature.
So, back to HTC stock. Not sure whether they would accept it for repair though given that it was sold as a branded Orange handset. Can they check?
Well, I will give this a go. The reason for the repair is that I've installed god knows how many custom ROMs and:
1. wifi doesnt always work.
2. Data connection errors.
3. Random reboots.
4. 90% reboot when navigating in the car.
5. Failure to answer some incoming calls.
6. Sometimes outgoing calls carry no voice modulation (they cant hear me)
different problems depending on ROMs.
So, lets see how the stock does before I decide to send back/or not.
Thanks again Eddy.
No, the bloke at Orange is going to give the guy getting it debranded the Orange RUU so he can go back to stock if he needs to...
HTC can tell, and my still fix it and put the Orange ROM back on it, but they may also turn around and refuse to fix it due to having a different ROM to the original
You can get to stock Orange with a very complicated method. After debranding you would root the phone. Then apply the backup on my thread. You then remove the superuser.apk with adb. You then flash the two updates orange released this unroots your phone back to stock.

From what i know radio s-off works on 1.32 base roms. But better wait for a more accurate answer.

Try the tool again. But as mariosraptor said, you should not run it on custom roms (custom kernel).
I try again but it's same thing
And now the screnn of my DHD is white with this message "Sudden closure of the application HTC sense"
Yep, that is normal, you should have read the thread more carefully. I posted a new version of the tool, which checks a bit more stuff. You should try it. If it gives the same result, you will have to revert to older, stock rom and then run the tool. After you run 0.4 version of the tool, you can reboot.
I try the new tool but it stop with the message "do you have root" and i didn' have message on my DHD.
How to revert to older rom ?
Okay, restore a nandroid backup or use HTC RUU.
I try
Thank you for your help
Thank you i revert to RUU 1.32 and evrything is OK and tool 0.4 work very well

On the same PC, I ran again, without the "I have radio S-off" box checked, it says "Do you have root?". I ran a gain with the box checked and it says it failed to make changes to bootloader. I unroot (don't know why I did that) with Visionary, it rebooted ok. I rooted it again already. . But a little bit afraid now, cos' I had no experience in rom flashing.
Edit:
Oh my love, I ran it AGAIN, and this time without the box checked. And it said "All DONE".
Same problem as xthierry "bootloader is corrupt, do not reboot. Contact XDA for help"
I used this guide to downgrade from 1.72 to 1.32 software version, then used this guide for trying to flash a custom rom. Radio S-OFF, Super CID from Easy Radio tool v2.2 went just fine. Then started Easy S-OFF_5 and checked option I have Radio S-OFF and pressed S-OFF it! button. This time no acces was required on my phone, and the message "bootloader is corrupt, do not reboot. Contact XDA for help" appeared. I tried again to press S-OFF it! and it said "Error: Connection problem!".
This is most similar post I could find and someone said to run Easy S-OFF v4 but I only can find v5 on site. And I didn't understand exactly what tools should I use in order to restore bootloader to solve the problem in case of broken bootloader.
Thank you very much, you're doing a great job within this community!
Problem solved, I remade the downgrade and I haven't tried again to install Easy S-OFF, cause I don't need to flash any radio, I just wanted to unlock SIM
Glad to see your DHD not bricked
Bootloader Corrupt error
Hi,
I have a HTC Desire HD running Android 2.2 [Build #: 1.32 Software: 1.32] - completely stock out of the box with standard vodafone (australia) rom still installed.
i have run through the steps outlined here
i have rooted using VISIONary and performed the RADIO S-OFF, Super-CID and Sim Unlock section without issue.
When i attempt to run "Desire HD easy s-off.exe" [EasyS-OFF_05] with "i have RADIO S-OFF" box checked, i receive the message "bootloader corrupt, DO NOT REBOOT! Seek help from XDA!" about half way through.
i have attempted running it again and receive "connection error" (with and without the "i have RADIO S-OFF" box selected).
i have downloaded EasyS-OFF_04 and run this but i still receive connection error. USB is definately conneted in charge only and USB debugging is enabled.
i have not yet rebooted the phone as i am not sure if it is safe to do so. any help would be much appreciated. I have not flashed the radio or ROM as i have seen other threads advising that you must have eng S-OFF before flashing the ROM - is this accurate?
i have seen HTC RUU mentioned but im not entirely sure what this is and whether is pertains to my situation.
Again any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.
EDIT: formatted the SD card then rebooted phone ok - continued with rom flashing guide in above link. all is working well.

[Q] O2 HTC Desire Can't Apply RUU Please Help!

Hello,
I'm posting here in desperation, I really hope someone could help me.
I've recently bought a HTC Desire from O2. It was running Android 2.2 but I flashed cyanogenmod to it along with the latest radio.
Cyanogenmod worked fine but the radio stopped my 3G internet from working. In the end I decided to simply revert back to original setup using a RUU.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, the first RUU I tried ALMOST worked but then failed claiming a file was missing and that I needed to try a complete RUU.
From that point onwards I have been unable to find an RUU that will work - I constantly receive error code 140, bootloader version error.
Can anyone please tell me how to circumvent this error OR provide me with an O2 RUU that will work?
Here's the spec from my startup screen:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 0.93.0001
MICROP - 051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2
Please note that the only option I have available to me from the boot-menu is RUU - Any option to enter recovery mode is not visible.
Please please help me, thank you so much in advance.
I wish I could give helpful advice...
I'm gonna try though.
Download one of the latest RUU's from here.
Perhaps your RUU was a bit old?
I've only ever done RUU once, when sending my phone back for repair. I encountered another issue.
To the OP, which RUU are u trying to use?

Make sure you've got a goldcard then do the downgrade. After that you should be able to do any RUU you like.
Lol just try a different radio. Have you manually set your APN?

Hi dehaani. In order to run the downgrade utility I surely need to be able to access my device (to enable usb debugging ) I currently can't get further than a grey HTC logo with exclamation marks in the corners? Is there a way to downgrade without the need to boot in to a ROM?
I've tried running almost all RUU I can find online, most of them result in Error 140: Bootloader version error.
I can't flash another radio because the only option I have available to me in bootloader is "RUU", no option to restore etc. How do I manually set my APN?! Would this involve access to the phone too?
Thank you all so much for your responses so far, please keep helping.
try again hope good luck
This might have been pot luck on my part getting through to someone who knew their stuff, but I had a problem when flashing Oxygen RC7 to my desire.
I had to ring o2 about another contract I have, used by a family member, and they asked if there was anything else they could help with so I jokingly replied "not unless you know about flashing replacement ROMs..." would you Adam & Eve it, the clever little badger only went and talked me through the issue I had come across on my Desire.
Might be worth giving them a bell if you cant find a solution online, I've always found them very helpful.

[Q] Desire HD in bootloop obscure problem

Hello all!
I may be new to XDA, but i lurk a lot... And over the years this is the first time i've ever needed to post.
Right.. So today i bought an "HTC Desire HD" or 'Ace'
It was on Froyo (2.1?) S-ON and hboot 0.85 or something
I tried using AAHK - Which is fine, I've used it before successfully on my other DHD.
This time it was upgrading/downgrading a radio, error'd and quit.
It then restarted and bootloooped.
I tried Factory Restore did nothing
I then tried using many and various RUU's but i always get Error 131 or Error 190
I tried making a GoldCard to boot the phone still nothing
I also tried the PD98IMG.zip in the SD card (Tried with GoldCard too) Still Error 131
GoldCard does work as have tested it on another phone.
Currently sat staring at HBOOT wondering what the hell i can do to get it too switch back on!
The phone is locked to Orange UK with S-ON
The file that i believe to fix my phone is called "RUU-Ace-Orange-UK.18" something, but it just doesn't exist. I've searched all of google and only found dead links.
Just a little motivation, I'll donate to whom ever provides the fix for my phone my old Xperia Mini e10i! Thanks
AAHK is retired, and the server hosting the files it needs has been pulled. Without S-Off you can't flash radios. Are you just trying to root? If so, you can unlock your bootloader, flash a recovery, and flash a rooted ROM from there. You can't flash radios, but you can flash custom ROMs. The link in my signature has more detailed guides.
EDIT: but you will first need to update your hboot.

I believe that because your hboot is too old, you need to create a gold card to flash a RUU that supports hboot unlock. How to do that is beyond the scope of my knowledge, and due to the fact that the guy who used to handle all this stuff (glevitan) is no longer active here, you may just need to hope someone else shows up. You could try to look through his posts for that info.

So my phone is dead then D;
Basically you need to create a Goldcard and upgrade your bootloader.
I also have a Orange DHD and i am S-Off'd using another methord but the difference is that i have sense 3.0.
But due to your phones CID being ORANG001 you'll need the goldcard as there is no orange RUU firmware only HTC generic firmware.
Shot a PM if you still need help.
