[Q] Hulu does not work on my HTC EVO - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my Evo today with unrEVOked version 3.32 to get root to watch Hulu on my EVO. I've tried putting Hulu on my Evo, but all I get is the blue box on the Hulu app or Hulu needs Flash 10.1 something on the browser. I've uninstalled Flash with Titanium Backup and reboot the phone to install Flash for the hex-fix, the Samsung Capative and the flash from 10.3 to 99.99.99.9, but they all don't work. Can someone please help me get Hulu to work on my HTC Evo Stock rom with 3.70.651.1 firmware?

i dug this apk's up here on xda, i forgot where
Using titanium scroll to your current flash player, wipe data then uninstall. Now go to your file manager (root explorer, astro etc..) install modified flash then HULU.apk.
It should work. From HULU app choose a vid, hit hour glass/white screen, wait, then it should start playing.
to view HULU site (better IMHO, easier to navigate) from stock browser type, about:debug ,then enter then menu, more, settings change UA string to desktop.
should be good to go

It's doesn't work for my phone. I get the Blue Question Mark box when I click on a video link and when I search for a video it says my flash need to be updated. I did everything you told me to do.

It does work and has quite a while . The hulu apk requires task killer to shut it off.
The hulu web site works as is.

^^ try that. it may be that the old version of flash isn't being fully removed.

Thanks Willy900Wonka and Jalai. Willy you help me with my problem, and Jalai you were correct with the problem to. You both gave me the solution to the problem I needed for Hulu to work. Thanks!

What was the solution?
Details please.
Edit:
Found solution for 10.3 and hulu.apk.
1. Use root uninstaller to uninstall flash player
2. Use root uninstaller to uninstall flash lite. (After 4 months, finally notice that it was still installed)
3. Go to Settings>Applications>Manage applications>All> locate all of your browsers and clear cache, clear info and force stop app.
4. Install hacked 10.3 or whatever you want, then install hulu.apk (no link to files google them)
5. Do not restart phone
6. Open stock browser
7. Type "about:debug" in URL, then hit enter
8. Go to menu>settings and set "UAString" to "Desktop" (if you don't see UAString, repeat 7 & 8)
9. Exit back to browser, go to a full webpage. (ex: http://www.google.com)
10. Repeat step 7 and Clear all the following; all cookie data, cache, history, form data, password, location access.
11. Exit back to browser
12. finally go to hulu and test it out
If this helps any one please hit the thank you button.

Uninstall flash by Titanium Backup and install the 10.2. flash player modded.

Will using the modified Flash apk stop my Netflix App from working?

It shouldn't. I haven't had any problems. Unless you are using a gingerbread ROM.

Flash Player 10.1 Confirmed working

Yeah apk which is posted on forum tested working on my Galaxy S. Now browsing with flash.
Were can I find the apk? Thanks.
Are you sure it's not the Flash Lite 3.1 that is working?
http://galaxys.samsungmobile.com/specification/spec.html?ver=low
Here it states that SGS comes with it, not sure Flash 10.1 has overriden it.
APK Here its posted on Evo forums
Its 10.1.
Try it
wow if this is true it is amazing, i dont actually need to wait for 2.2 to come out
Thanks for the link.
couldnt get it to work, tried youtube.
It doesn't work.
Edit: Used Astro Apps manager to uninstall. But before that, tried to launch it directly. A popup message said that Activity not found.
Went to check @ www.whatismyflash.com, and it stated clearly no flash was installed.
Didn't work for me either :-(
Wow for a second I thought that it really will work and I dont need 2.2..... check it before posting false info -.-
whatismyflash does work for me though.. Also some sites seem to work, but not all.
enable/allow plugins or flash from your phone's default browser
yup,try that. afterwards try accessing a flash website.
this might help you enable flash in galaxy s.
"whatismyflash"
After checking this site it detects my flash a 9.xx.xx
im using the stock browser, do i need to power off after installing flash 10.1?
hmmmm...
not really. after enabling plugins from the browser settings.. went to youtube straight away and watch some videos straight from the browser.. and played some amazing puzzle games at eyemaze website.
some websites that require 10.xx.xx flash and other websites doesn't seem to load.. for the reason.. don't really a clue.

I am also Galaxy S user.. i also install adobe flash 10.1.. also cannot work..
check with Whatismyflash.com ot show Flash player 9.1.xx not 10.1.
How you make it to work?
Doesnt Work
This is my first android phone and not sure how much write access the installers have to the system on the i9000 but...
I have just installed the APK and still get flash player 9 which is the pre-install lite.. (apk is stored in /system/apps/flashlite)
/system/ looks to be readonly and cannot be overwritten unless you have root access.
not sure but this could be why its not working.
Might be worth someone with root access testing.
Can someone check is justin.tv works woth this?

Yeah, wrong section. This would be a Q&A thread. Anyways, the best way to fix it is to do a factory reset. There are some problems reported after running the update without wiping, so definitely wipe to make sure everything is working.
remove adobe flash and reinstall it. works perfect afterwards

Anyone have the exact name .apk of the flash player so I can delete it via root explorer?
Fix
EDIT: Mkay if your getting problems with Flash player, set your cache on your browser to the second highest under 8MB, then install the flash.apk from here, and boom! Working flash

If it is RLS 5, don't fret. Download the adfree app from the market and install it. After installation, initiate the app and select either "revert" for ads or "update hosts" for no ads and then reboot your device. You'll be good to go afterwards. The version that is cooked into RLS 5 has an outdated host file and thus the reason for your crawling internet browsing.

I've used several versions of Z, including Warm Z and that should not be occurring, my friend. Internet speeds via 3G is noticeably fast on it. If you have the time, go back into recovery, wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card itself and then reflash Warm Z. Also, when you first enter into your homescreen and start the setup process, there is a screen that asks if you want mobile & WiFi or just Wifi ONLY. Make sure you select the mobile & wifi option.
I did select both but I will try that again after clearing all the options.
Edit: I had already cleared all the options before as well...everything. Twice.

Okay. Are you, by chance, using amon RA as your recovery? If not, download it from here: http://goo.gl/cgh5e and place it on the root of your SD card. If there is another file called PC36IMG.zip, move that file to a folder. To install amon RA:
Shut down your EVO and then press & hold the volume down button while pressing the power button. When your EVO starts, you will be directed to the Hboot screen where amon RA zip file will be automatically detected and you will be prompted to install it. Follow the prompts to install. Installation will take less than 10 seconds to complete. Afterwards, reboot into recovery.
Go to the WIPE menu and wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card.
Go to the FLASH menu and flash Warm Z and then REBOOT.
Ok I will try that and report back soon with what happens.

Okay. Do this, if you have the time. Download and flash MikZ from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=982211
The base files are no different than that of Warm Z. See if your internet browsing experience are identical?

Download unsucessful in browser

Brand new Gnex like everybody else.
Every time I try to download something from the browser I'm getting a download unsuccessful error, but if everywhere else downloads work.
For example if i'm in the xda forum app and somebody post a download that shows up in the app it goes straight through but if I have to click on a link and try to download it, it doesn't work.
Also if I pull up a picture in the browser and long press and save picture it doesn't work but i can set it as a wallpaper no problem.
http://wallpaper.goodfon.com/image/115621-1680x1050.jpg
This picture right here didn't work for me.
I'm still completely stock right now. haven't rooted or changed bootloader and running stock browser
I was playing around with my buddies nexus and found the same problem. A work around I found was to go into the Download app in the drawer, find your download, long press it until it gives you a retry option. Might take at least two tries but the file finally downloaded

Same problem here. My workaround is just to download on my PC, and use Dropbox to move it to my Gnex.

Yeah that's what I've been doing while at work in front of my computer, but that's not really a workaround since you can only do it when you are in front of a pc.
Any updates on this?
***SOLVED***
In settings, go to "Apps", select the "All" tab, go down and find "Download Manager", press the "Force Stop" button, then press the "Clear Data" button. Reboot and you can download again.
Download astro file manager. In prefs - enable browser downloads.

This didn't fix it for me and also you don't want that because that will make Astro the download manager. You want the stock one to work either way. Try my fix above first.
Also try
1. Clear cache for "Browser" in the Apps menu.
2. Clear cache and dalvik-cache in CWM and reboot.
3. If you have Astro already installed, try uninstalling it.
All else fails, repeating these 3 steps plus the fix I posted above in this order.
This worked thank you

This was happening to me and I tried everything I could think of to fix it including wiping data on market, uninstalling updates, factory reset phone, and wiping cache in download manager. I finally figured out that it would only fail when on wifi. Turning it off would let me download. I finally gave up trying to fix it. Funny thing is it works now though. I recommend just giving it a day. It may fix itself. It did for me.

I've countless threads and people recommended this or Opera mini. I don't consider any of these a solution. It's just a "workaround" since the original issue is not resolved. What I found was the solution. Highly recommend it. Especially considering how nice the stock browser on this phone is.

gTalk

hi guys,
is there a way to install gtalk with voice and video on my sgw?
nobody knows?
you can download "talk 1.3 installer [root]" in market...
Link...will try TKU
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brainwashstudio.talkinstaller&hl=en
tried latest (recommended) and briso's 3rd mod.....
both FC'd,
app never ran,
the quest continues!!!
ive been looking for this myself but none of the current methods seem to work. Im hoping that samsung pull their fingers out and get it sorted.
I have gtalk with video working on my Galaxy W.
For sure I used the link provided above: talk installer 1.3
However, it could be I first removed the original system app using Titanium Backup
But it's working now...

i installed busybox and talk 1.3 but didn't work
can you tell me all the steps that you have done?
Didn't work for me.
I backed up and uninstalled the Talk app with TB, then ran the Talk 1.3 installer from the market, which failed (said something like "can't copy Talk.apk"). Then, to make matters worse, TB refused to reinstall the app from the backup - it just hung, even with the indirect option enabled (makes me wonder why I paid for it!).
I eventually got the talk app back by flashing the latest stock ROM (there just happened to be a new one available when I fired up Kies).
Edit: I just thought I'd try again using just the Talk 1.3 installer. However, it won't even backup the stock app - like with the attempted installation before, it says it cannot copy Talk.apk. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, since I'm not doing very much at all!
Edit2: I just checked in /system/bin and there is no "cp" symlink in there - perhaps that's the problem? (I rooted using the recovery method, which installed busybox, but it doesn't seem to have created the cp symlink...)
Edit3: I sorted the cp issue by installing a terminal emulator and running "busybox --install /system/xbin". Backing up with the Talk 1.3 Installer now works. I don't have a good data connection where I am at the moment though so I can't have another go and installing the modified Talk app until later.
Edit4: The installation of the modified Talk app now works, but it force closes whenever I try to start it. I've tried all the versions in the installer, and they all FC on startup. I could easily restore the original apk from the installer's backup though, so no damage done.
Confirmed [root] Talk 1.3 Installer works.
Requirements:
1) Rooted Phone
2) Titanium backup (root)
Steps:
1) Sign out from gTalk
2) Make backup of Talk app using Titanium
3) Wipe Data for Talk app using Titanium
4) Uninstall Talk app using Titanium
5) Download [root] Talk 1.3 Installer from Market
6) Run it .. it will ask you to backup .. Select No
7) It will ask again ... again Select No
8) Use recommended version and then let it install new Talk
9) After installing you will need to sign in again to your Google account.
10) Now you can use Talk with voice and video
Yay! The above method works. I can only assume it was force closing before because I didn't wipe the data from the old app.
The only problem I've found so far is that I don't seem to be able to start video chats with anyone - they have to "call" me. But that's not a huge issue.
Edit: I also seem to have an ongoing video chat notification that I can't get rid of, even after signing out. I have to force stop Talk to get rid of it. Annoying, but again, not a huge issue.
I went back to the stock version in the end. As far as I can tell, the modded version only works with video the first time you connect - if you want to start another video chat after you've ended the first one, you have to force close Talk and start it again. I think this may be connected to the fact that the ongoing video chat notification never disappears from the status bar.
Anyway, I've decided it's not worth the hassle - I've reinstalled the stock app and I'm just going to use Skype for video chat instead.
