Massive Battery Drain - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. My Desire seems to have developed a strange battery problem. I have been using InsertCoin CM7 1.0.1 for a few weeks and everything has been fine. Then yesterday i tried the Nightly version of this ROM, v35 before returning to IC CM7 1.0.5. Now my battery has started to drain INCREDIBLY fast. 35% battery went in like an hour with the phone idle. Tried flashing latest LeeDroid ROM and this didnt solve the problem. Any ideas how this can be fixed or has my battery died?

HOW TO:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755903
Reduce display brightness, turn off 3g/hsdpa + gps + wifi and only turn them on, when you really need them. Check battery health with the app spare parts (start it>battery information). When do not have installed it, dial *#*#4636#*#* and then choose battery information.

What application do you have?
Some applications need to close manually, otherwise it would drain the battery.
Do you turn off your wi-fi and Data plan?

Battery life just terrible, need since help plz!!

As title says guys, I don't no why but my battery life is just really bad since I moved from stock 2.1 Rom to custom ROMs :-(
Is it my phone? I can't work pig wot it is. I checked the battery usage #*#*4636*#*#) and it seems the Android system is using A LOT of it. I tried charging with phone off, clearing battery stats, not overcharging, but just can't resolve this issue.
Also, I have sync set to update manually and have mobile internet off always, only on wen needed. Same with WiFi. Screen is on auto and time off screen lock set to 30 seconds
I am using OpenDesire sense Rom
Any help will be really appreciated.
Thanks

I could feel WiFi siginal of 2.2 is much better that stock 2.1,
I suppose that the better performance will bring the fast battery drain,
if your custom ROM support WiFi N mode,
that really makes your battery life short that before.
I have the same problem and same settings as you. I read on other forum that people who updated to official 2.2 have even better battery life.
I cant even squeze 20 hours out of my battery :/
You guys should always post what ROMs you are using...
Opendesire 3.3, its the same with defrost.
i also had really bad battery life on those 2 roms
even doing nothing the phone would just keep dropping
go to official froyo 2.2
neophye roms for me have amazing battery life = 48 hrs..

Check if the phone goes to sleep correctly. Spareparts > battery usage: other usage, since last unplugged.
I had the same problem, until I found out that the phone was not going to sleep. (running and screen on percentages were way off. Almost 100% running and a lot less for screen on.
update to the last radio
I found that after forcing everything to install to SD card my battery life plummeted. There were apps/widgets that should have stayed on the phone. Once I moved these back, battery life was back to normal.
I use Systempanel to see the battery drain graph and could see a pattern to it.
Same issue here, Will try Neophyte tonight
Using this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741663, and it's fantastic! However batt life on .08 and .20 radio is a shocker. I watched a 1 min trailer on youtube, in and out and I lost 4% battery. Before with OpenDesire I'd be shocked if the battery percentage even twitched slightly.

I use Defrost 1.5a and I just use about 2% every hour when the phone is sleeping, and that's with auto sync and mobile data enabled. (disabled it's 1%/hour)
Always underclock to the lowest mhz when the screen is off using SetCPU and when you do use your phone make sure the brightness isn't too high.
I could make a whole list of tips, but I'm sure you'll find more than enough of those on the net.

When your screen is off, your phone should automatically go to sleep. Sometimes widgets or apps keep this from happening (like the music player), making it use battery as if you are constantly working on it.
How I resolved this issue was to find out what app or widget caused this. I ended up starting from a fresh reset, installing first all apps I really use (calendar/message widgets, powerstrip etc.)
I tested by installing an app, rebooting (or sometimes not), check the running time of the phone, turning screen off, and check again in 5 minutes. The phone should go to sleep in about 30 - 40 seconds. I am telling you this, because most apps causing this are widgets/apps running constantly.
However, I found in spareparts also that 'settings' was taking alot of usage time in usage statistics. A simple reboot did the trick from here on. But I am guessing I had installed something which made some app not close properly..
Maybe it is better to have a task manager/killer for these situations.
Running and Screen On percentages should not have too much of a difference if your testing and not using the phone while screen is off (music, bg stuff)
You could try juicedefender, it helps improve battery life by disabling unneeded connections while the phone is not in use

HTC WildfireS Ridiculous Battery Usage by Dialer Process

Hi All,
I have a problem with my Wildfire S A510e whereby the battery of the new phone does not last even 4 hours.
After fully charging the phone, the battery consumption is high even without using Wi-FI or 3G or GPS.
After fully charging the phone, all i did was attended a call and spoke for 2 Minutes.
After 3 hours, the phone battery was only 20% and the process that was consuming most battery was "Dialer".
This is ridiculous.
Dialer should be the one consuming least power, given that i used the phone to talk only for 2 minutes. I believe this is a problem with the Stock ROM and i hope to get an update for this problem.
I am using
Software Build Number 1.66.401.1
Kernel 2.6.35.10
Baseband 47.10g.35
Please guide.
Its a bug that exists in all wildfire s stock roms and from what i've read not just wildfire s but a large selection of gingerbread phones.
I would just ignore it, i dont think it has much impact really mate.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S A510e
G'day Mate...Thanks for the response.
How much is your battery lasting?
And Isn't the battery getting exhausted in no time an "Impact"?
I literally am required to be plugged in to AC Point all day long. I can't go out without worrying that my battery will get exhausted :-(
it always shows 59% for me in dialer usage , stock battery never lasted long enough. it drys off to soon. made me feel like throwing off the phone in a river, so i bought a mugen power battery.. after full charge i kept it idle for 10 hours, battery remaining was "97%"
stock battery is 1230mah mugen is 1500 mah , buying new battery is beneficial.
i have no issues with battery now.
I have seen my dialer in the 90ish% battery is not great think its htc sense because now I'm using CM7 port my battery life has seemed to double and that's no exaggeration.
To get more out of your battery turn off all data sync, wifi, GPS off when not needed.
Are you rooted and are you running a stock rom?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S
Dialer starts sapping battery after you've used the dialer interface once (dialing out / receiving calls).
You need to reboot the phone to stop it.
or kill the dialer storage process a few times to cause the phone to soft reboot (5sec reboot)
The long term solution is to S-Off and run a custom rom.
I am using htc wildfire s salsa port by jikintaru and my dialer is always at 92-95% after call
I think he is draining my battery even when my phone is in iddle state.
My battery lasts for 1.5 day with low call, wifi usage...
Is there anything i can do to fix this couse i am on nice rom?
Thank you in advance
Its a gingerbread bug, but like i said earlier ignore it, don't think it has a real effect.
My girlfriend has the same dialer issue on her htc chacha

What CM7 port are you using, as I know no official CM7 port has been made?
On my phone it is allways showing 97% dialer battery usage, but I think it's just a false reading. If you use some other battery monitor program like Badass battery monitor you can see what apps used most power.
New Stock ROM
A new stock ROM is available

I have installed that. Will report if that helps solve the problem.
Regards,
Guddu
If you goto the development section for wildfire s you will see the unofficial cm7 by alquez.
If your s-off and rooted check it out mate it really is good.

This rom is really good and very fast but has a few bugs, for example: you must turn off flash while you taking a photo beacause the app is going to crash
I recommend to use one of "jikantaru " rom
There is a much easier fix for this.
If you go into Settings>Sound and disable "Quiet Ring on Pickup", "Pocket Mode" and "Flip for Speaker" it should improve your battery life massively. All of these constantly monitor the accelerometer via the Dialer app and drain the battery. Try it!

Thanks. I actually tried these after looking for more info on a Android forum but it never really helped much.
I hope they fix this dialer problem and freezing problem in this phones
Other then that i like it verry much...
I have this as well. A fix I found that seems to work is, after making a call, restart the phone. It will get rid of the Dialer process. A bit frustrating to restart the phone each time, but it does work.
And in response to turning off pocket mode, speaker, etc., they do help with battery improvement. I'd strongly recommend everyone turns these settings OFF for better battery life

I can confirm that the latest ruu 2.13.401.2 euro which is the latest htc rom that upgrades gingerbread to 2.3.5 and gives the new lock screen does NOT have the dialer issue.
It does not even show dialer at all in battery usage.
Edit:
Didn't realise i was charging, now im off the charger im a 98%.

Figured it out!!
The issue for me was that the Maps app had not been used before and was waiting at the initial Accept screen. Once I accepted, battery usage is completely normal! The problem is in the Maps app, not in the Dialer. There must be an infinite loop around waiting for the Accept button to be clicked.
Thanks for the advice here about using Badass Battery Monitor. It helped me figure out that the real offender was Maps, not Dialer (there must be some bug here that results in the mis-reporting).
Did they fix dialer problem in 2.3.5 version? Can anyone confim this?
I am using method
"I've disable gsm proximity sensor and now this issue gone! Yeah! I've set 'gsm.proximity.enable=false' in build.prop before flashing a 2.3.3 rom."
With this method i dont have proximity sensor so when on call you have to press power button to hang-up,turn on screen or turn on speakerphone but there is no dialer issues no more for days for me...
Dialer seems ok on mine, been updated to 2.3.5 for 24 hours made and received few calls and dialer is only 13% and to be honest the battery life is an amazing improvement from HTC.
Will carry on testing. The battery is as good if not better than cm7.

The Desire HD has very high battery drain and when on 3g it will search for coverage. Try new radio and new light rom
Try to turn off 3g when u don't need. The gsm mode have 5-8% gain of energy, perhaps change your radio too.
hello,
i have big problem with my HTC Desire (rooted with custom ROM). Before 2 weeks my Desire worked perfect: battery drain full after 3-4 days, network signal was good. But now battery drain full after 8-12hours, and i have problem with signal. At home signal was good, but now signal is low. And the phone reboots 1-3 times a day. All problems start in the same moment.
When I switch Desire to Airplane mode or to only gsm or 2g mode battery drain normal.
I tried factory reset, install other roms, other kernels, newest radio, 2 batteries; 2 sim cards; scan with 3 different antivirus (no virus), format /boot; /cache; /system; /sd-ext; /data and install new ROM but nothing help me. I don't found nothing about it in Google. Maybe it is hardware problem? Maybe someone have some idies?
I bought another HTC Desire and he work perfect at home and other places. Now I can compare with faulty Desire, but I don't know what more can I do.
Sorry for the English mistakes

[Q] battery problems with cm7.1 stable

lately i got a problem with my battery.
using cm7.1 stable for htc desire gsm and my battery was fully drained in the time from 1:00am till 6:00am.
it went from 60% to zero and i couldnt get my phone on in the morning.
used a battery monitoring app (during that time) to see what is going on and the battery status report said "no data" for this time.
recalibrated my battery a month ago. took another month to come back.
can anyone help me?
or is someone facing the same issue?

I am also using cm7.1 on my desire. I used a tool from the market called 'Battery Calibration' and i have noticed a significant difference in my battery life. I do intend to change my battery to a new heavy duty one in the near future.
Hope you sort yours out.

i did battery calibration manualy and i tried an app to increae battery life (like juice defender), but it still occured.
but thx for your reply
Install OS Monitor from the market. Put CPU graph in the notification bar and look what's eating your cpu and memory. Maybe only one app is making trouble. (and you can switch to nightly, it's stable enough)

Look for better battery stats here on XDA and check your wakelocks. There's probably a rough app keeping your phone awake and draining your battery. Calibrate your battery as the others suggested. You can also try and change your kernel if needed. But I suggest that you check your wakelocks first.
You should set you wifi sleep policy to never
settings -> wireless & networks -> wifi settings
press menu -> advanced and set wifi sleep policy to Never
press menu -> save
This should save you some battery

[Q] HELP cell standby huge battery drain[tried each n everything prb still persists]

hey guys...
i have tried everything to stop the battery drain
switched to many different roms
under-clocked processor to 768mhz
set a black wallpaper
brightness set to minimal
did battery calibration
switched of all background processes and made sure no location seeking programs works.
used CPU spy, the cell does go to deep sleep
tried juice defender and deep sleep battery saver
but nothing seemed to work
phone locked on full charge drains 40 to 50% in night without using.
then after a few days later i restored everything and opened airplane mode and I went to sleep, in the morning the battery didn't went low a single percent. battery health is good as works really well on airplane mode.
i have low signal issues but i get text msgs and calls with no problems at all, and my explorer and s3 seems to perform well
my all type pf connectivity is off example: location access WiFi Bluetooth etc only gsm is working, i manually selected the network and set it to gsm only rather them auto from *#*#4636#*#*.
what shall i do??
i searched and tried many things from the internet.
i really want those calls i cant always be on airplane mode, the problem is 200% of the antenna draining juice to get more signals. please help.
is there any way to stop the battery drain or restricting the antenna to consume less juice?
PS:using cm10.1 by nightly version:19 Aug 13.
anyone??
one thing more i installed better battery stats it says
no or unknown signal
no data connection
and it is running continuously like since i installed betterbatterystats.
where can i get this bug?? or disable this service??
please give a detailed explanation.
There are a few good apps to try I use
battery mix (I think this is one of the best) and wakelock detector both from my the market.

Battery drain
I´m having same problems with my DHD, currently im using 4.2.2 Samsation (was it named like that but anyways 4.2.2). Without using phone it still drains 40% in few hours.. I got replacement battery from eBay and thought that would help but didnt help at all. I´ve tried different roms but would like to have newest roms without battery draining so much, so could someone share how to get it better?
And about changing radio, was there a possibility that you may brick ur device if installing wrong radio?

and regarding the radio if u do it right and reasearch a little u wont brick it for sure. got my radio from here:http://www.icsforums.com/forum/showthread/26951

yup there was nothing, no wakelocks etc i even underclocked my processor to 768mhz... the thing is the signal reception cause when i turn the cell in airplane mode and leave it over night the battery doesnt goes down a single percent. it acts solid.
i get around 18 asu signals at my place i check it from *#*#4636#*#*
but the thing is i was using an HTC explorer before switching to desire hd and with the gsm mode(no airplane mode) the battry stayed solid like the desire hd one with airplane mode(didnt dropped a single percent) at the same house same place.
dont know what going on.
