Miui vs cm7 - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Which one do u guys recommend and why thanku
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Its all personal preference really. Miui was more stable for me and if you don't like the ios feel you can use a different launcher. Cm7 is good too but I always had issues with high android system usage draining my battery and tried all the fixes to no avail. Miui has no 4g yet, but I liked it better. Way better battery life on Miui too. Both have great, helpful communities. Miui updates weekly.
Back on Sense now and haven't looked back. GingerAle v3. Check it.

Just try them both.
I flashed miui, and it lasted about ten seconds before I said hell no.
opinions on this subject are pointless. Find out what you like
Swyped via my cyanogenized and gingerbreaded EVO

For me personally it was the fact miui doesn't have 4g. I'm lucky enough to live in a 4g area so it was a no brainer for me.

I just can't stand how laggy miui is, have you tried scrolling through settings? Its painful lol

Twiz said it best....
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I like them both, but have stuck with MIUI longer than originally intended. I have zero lag on MIUI, it's actually smoother than CM7 for me.
Try both and see which you like more. I'd give each of them a few days to get a good feel for how they're set up and how theming and tweaking works.

Looking for ROM recommendations...

Hello all,
I am looking to move to a different ROM. I am currently on Cyanogenmod 7 Nightlies and have been for at least 4 months. Prior to this, I was on Myn's TwoPointTwo, but development seams to have stopped on that, although it was not bad when I was on it.
I would like a ROM that is mostly Gingerbread AOSP without a lot of mods. CM7 is nice, but I can't stand the WyContacts dialer/contacts/history app. I like them separate. I do like ADWLauncher, so that cooked in is fine.
I don't know if this is a CM7 problem or not, but WiFi Hotspot interferes with Bluetooth. Causes my calls to cut in and out like crazy.
Any suggestions would be great.
Deck. It's like CM without the extra bloat. Great battery life and blazing fast. Wrong forum, but no big deal.

My 2 cents is deck 1.2.1 with tiamat 4.0.6 with sbc. Blazing fast with regards to overclocking, not to mention a lot if free internal memory and available RAM. Battery drains quickly overclocked. Capable and stable at 1.226ghz (i think that's the setting) using Android overclock from the market. Also has built in advanced settings, similar to cm7's. A lot of nice tweaks in there. Just my experience. Hope it helps.

Thanks! I've just flashed to Deck.
However, the first thing I noticed is that it still uses WyContacts. Any way to go back to Gingerbread dialer/contacts/history apps?

If You Live In A 4G Area I Would Recommend Any Rom With 4G (its an essential for me). I would recommend synergy, mikg, or cyanogen. If not in 4g area or dont care about it get new miui. Looks awesome.

+1: the gingerbread-evo-deck has been my favorite AOSP ROM since it was released; currently at 1.2.1. I like the Go Launcher and Go Contacts so I've switched to them. Added Link2SD to utilize my Ext3 partition for apps, and that's about it. Throw all my apps on there, everything works and works great!
If you're interested, also works great with custom kernels by Savaged-Zen and Tiamat (currently using SZ 2.2.1). There are many great options, but IMHO you can only get different, not better.
Good luck, and thank you for your time.

Your post count is over 100 and you've been here for a year, and you could have just skipped over this thread completely after reading the title. So, the only reason that you opened this thread at all was to chastise the OP. So as you question why he committed the mortal sin of posting in the wrong area, you should also be asking yourself why it was so important for you to slam him with obscenities for it.
Personally, I'm far more annoyed when someone posts, "What's the battery life like?" in a thread with 500 responses including 60 responses to that same question that has already been asked 10-times in the same thread.
Yes, this was posted in the wrong area, but in my observation you get much better responses to such a question here than you will in Q&A because many users, myself included, rarely if ever go into the Q&A area. I'm not supporting posting in the wrong area, but I do understand why a question like this was posted here.
Thank you for your time.
this post removed, since thread was moved out of development.

And I'm liking SynR2. No SBC but I enjoy some of the new sense.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. First of all, I didn't mean to put it in Development, but when you're in that forum looking for ROMs, the first reaction is to just click POST NEW THREAD. Thanks for moving me.
I have been on gingerbread-deck for almost 24 hours now. It is definitely fast.
That said, it still uses WyContacts. Do nearly all AOSP ROMs use that? Does Gingerbread not have it's own dialer and contacts apps?
If a ROM doesn't have ADW Launcher built-in, is the standalone version the only option or is there a way to kind of integrate it with Gingerbread? Any advantages to this?

MIUI is fun if you like iOS, or you can slap a launcher on it for less iOS feeling.
But I personally go with OMFGB, i get solid performance with enough customization to keep me happy. I also like OMGB the non featured version. CM7 just feels too cluttered to me.

I agree...I love certain elements of MIUI but others I don't care for. The speed of the AOSP roms is great, but I keep crawling back to sense for the UI.
You don't have to like ios to like MIUI, maybe there are a couple similar elements, but MIUI is just so much better, and still uniquely android. I love CM7 too, but being able to mix and match specific pieces of themes into something totally unique makes MIUI awesome.
I use CM7, OMFGB, MIUI, and Evervolv AOSP roms installed on my phone using Conap's excellent DualRomX2. Rom's are a matter of personal preference. I find each of these very stable with good performance and battery life. I use Chad's incredikernel on all except OMFGB (for some reason I couldn't install it on that Rom) on which I use the Invisiblek kernel. I suggest you try them out and see which one works for you.
PS. I also use Nil's business gingersense rom which I find very stable and reliable.
I first rooted my Dinc about a month ago and tried a few different ROMs but have really enjoyed MIUI. O'the themes.

I'm running Synergy RLS1 w/ Warm theme on my Evo
I like it because it comes along with the Sense 3.0 lockscreen, and the developers community is HUGE.
I love sense but I've been rocking decks aosp rom for a while just because of full HDMI mirroring and battery life is great.

Cool! Yeah, battery life would definently be a factor, I barely push out 3 hours on what I'm using now.
CM 7 Nightlies.
I'm using the same rom loving the 3.0 lockscreen (synergy rom latest)
My Oreo Evo 4g G-bread
Currently running Synergy RLS1 but I am thinking of taking a look at MikG. I like the Sense 3.0 lock screen and the Sense apps. I have not tried out any AOSP on my Evo but my (deactivated) Hero runs CM7. I may have to check out Deck for the battery life.
I've been looking into MIUI, not quite sure though. I like how It's more simple, and seemingly cleaner. Yet I'm not a big fan of iOS, which it strongly resembles.

Decks Rom gingerbread-evo-deck 1.3b. This is really the only ROM I've had luck with! I've tried just about everyone else's ROMS and I like the Sense ROMS but after about 2 or 3 days or so I start getting FC's for no apparent reason for my phone process, then sense, then android system, etc...
So until I figure out why I am having so much issues with Sense I'll keep using Decks ROM!!
Deck 1.2.1 with Tiamat SBC kernel.
Light, fast, and great battery life.
CyanogenMod 7.1. Like the stripped down feel of it, and seems to run smoother than 7.0.3.
Still some bugs here and there, but it IS still in development.
Synergy's starting to work pretty well, though. Just hate the lag from Sense.

Decks ROM? Never heard of it, I'll be sure to check it out though I used Synergy for a few days and it worked wonders for me (love the animations in the Warm theme), hopefully no issues arise.
Since root I've flashed five or six different roms. I kinda like a little from all of them but I keep coming back to the stock I did a nandroid of. I think it runs smoother and faster than the other roms. But that is my opinion.

Good luck with that kind of find...
If you're looking for a sense-like feel, why not just go with a sense ROM? I personally use Synergy ROM and everything works super fast, no issues, and service seems to be better than when I had CM7 on it. That and sense ROMs also make full use of the phone's hardware, such as the camera...
The support and extras are a pretty sweet deal, as well.

Signal strength is not universal. You can have the same signal strength on your phone but it will display as a different number of bars based purely on your ROM. CM seems to be one of those ROMs where I have a really good signal yet I'm only showing about 2 or 3 bars. Its just the way the ROM displays it. Flashing another ROM and getting more bars doesnt mean your signal strength is any stronger or weaker at all.
Also, if you're looking for a sense feel then just get a sense ROM. There are a lot out there to choose from. I'm actually thinking of running Boot Manager on my phone and flashing a sense ROM alongside CM7 so that I can make use of the abilities of the sense ROMs when I need to.
I switch between Fresh 4.22 and CM7 pretty regularly and love battery life/performance of both. I use Tiamats 4.1 SBC on CM7 and the stock kernel on Fresh, although it would be choice if there were a Sense SBC kernel.

I keep coming back to Mik's roms. On MikG now and love it. Battery life is great too but then I use all the app tricks I can find. App2SD / DroidWall / SetCPU / StartUp Auditor. If your signal strength is bad just call Sprint and ask for an Airvanna. Once it's hooked up you should be up to 4/5 bars constantly. That's been my experience.

any of the sense 3.5 roms are great.
MIUI doesn't look bad.. Try a few themes there are some great ones.
I'm pretty certain that MIUI is the easiest rom for customization (using the theme app).
You can change pretty much every aspect so it can't just "look bad".
Ok that's the thing I've tried a bunch of different themes and I just don't like miui anymore. Probably the iPod made me sick of it. Now which sense roms we talking here? Can I get some links?
