How big is the internal memory ? on GSM Arena says that S8500 has 2GB , but mine shows only ~550MB of available memory ... So witch is it ?
internal memory that you mean is 2GB on wave s8500, you see only 550MB because that is the partition for user data.
(it has been said hundreds of time...and it's clear if you see the contents of this partition, here there aren't os files...)

I'm coming from a LG G2x and gonna be making the switch over to Sprint for this phone as i believe it is the best of the galaxy s2 variant. I'm guessing this won't be possible due to how these phones emmc nand are setup but gonna ask anyways...
Is there a way for users to re-partition the internal storage from 1.5gb to something bigger (like say 4-6gb) and leave the rest for internal emmmc storage, or even completely use the full 12gb available for app storage?
I already own a 16gb external sd card and gonna be upgrading to a class 6-10 32gb for this phone, so i wouldn't need any internal sdcard partitioned from what should be our user app storage. Especially with games coming out today that exceed 500+ mb of storage this would be extremely helpful.

I guess the only option i have is to be thankful of the 2gb internal storage it will come with and just use gparted to create an ext partition on external sdcard and then use link2sd.
So if I'm not mistaken, this phone is suppose to come with a 4GB internal storage n a 16GB (or 14.something something GB in reality)MicroSD card. Ok, I get that much, but, where is that 4GB internal storage? I checked in the Storage section and all I see is the 16GB SD card and 1.89GB free space under Internal Storage. If that 1.89GB is the only space left from the 4GB, what the hell is occupying the other 2GB of space? It can't be the OS (I'm very sure that's on a different chip/ram/etc) and whatever it is, I'm not seeing them on the phone (since the HD videos were even deleted when I format the SD card). So what is in here?
Also, Unlike on the Atrix, it seems you can't unmount the internal storage and view them on the computer under mass storage. In the atrix, when I connect the phone to the PC, I get 2 removable drives pop up, one the microSD and the other is called MB860, which is the internal storage of the phone.....So why can't we do the same thing on this phone? Is there something hidden in there? And if it's locked, that means LG lied about having 20GB of storage available on the phone, while it's only 16GB.
According to the official datasheet for the phone (click here) on page 2 under specifications it states that the phone has 4gb internal storage but only 1.91 gb is usable for apps (which is why on your phone it only shows ~1.9 gb available in info).

Awww!! That is BS!! So now I actually need to get a 32GB even if that 20GB would have sufficed -__-

That leftover space on the internal storage is for apps, specifically for apps that only works or works better in the internal storage over ext. sd card. I just restored all my apps for TiBu, and the apps that go into the internal storage end up in there , and those that go into the sd card end up in my sd card.
Now I only have 845MB of space left on the internal storage, which is not much at all, albeit it is sufficient for several hundred for apps, but still it's very little.
i say once we find a way to get CFW on the phone then we might be able to access it
Let's also remember that the Nitro HD has the 2GB of storage available, while the Optimus LTE only has 1GB.

are you talking about it's ROM storage capacity? (I don't what exactly it is called lol)
Application storage.
hi dev, is it possible to merge internal memory and sdcard memory into 1 partition? Or by using emmc method to swap sdcard with external flash but use the sdcard 2gb as a swap space for android system which possible speeding up SGW since i notice SGW has very limited ram memory to play around with 384mb.
Actually I've been meaning to discuss that with Arco but I don't think it's possible.
Our phone has 512RAM but about 200MB are always reserved for the android system, and the 384MB left are for us. However I can never seem to have more than 191MB.
if i'm not wrong the 200mb was reserved for the dalvik machine. i'm still new so everything is guessing. please correct me if i'm wrong. I'm trying to learn and hopefuly can contribute to the community too. cheers
From what I understand, they are 3 separate devices, with different capacity. Maybe we can mount them to different path? Before using the decades swap, I was using an application called directory bind created by a member of xda. Basically it automates the mount -o bind command. I have no idea what to use the internal memory for.

SGW hardware is build with 512MB RAM. 4gb internal memory which work just like ordinary computer hard-drive however samsung did a partition on this 4gb internal memory and it become 1gb internal and 2gb sdcard the other 700mb was for the rom. For the microsd we slot in will become external memory. if we do the swap thingy script as mention by adlihebat above it will change the 2gb sdcard to external memory and the microsd to sdcard. So my question is, is it posible for the dev to merge the 2gb sdcard back to the internal memery. or they can make use of this 2gb as swap space for the android system. because SGW is really lag of ram maybe by doing this will help SGW gain some performance.
Used to have a great app Link2SD when I was on Froyo which used to move dalvik cache, lib and .apk files to external SD but doesn't work on Gingerbread unfortunately.

Sounds feasible, i think in theory this need to be done in recovery mode. Modify the partition table as we want it. But need a new rom that will recognize/take advantage of the new partitions. I wish i have time to do all this.

hey all,
my friend is going to buy the i8150T model of the galaxy wave and according to GSMARENA it got only 1.6gb of storage space which i think is to low for normal every day for him.
meanwhile Samsung website list the device as 4gb storage,
which is it? 1.6gb internal storage or 4gb internal storage?

as i know 4 GB means is 1 GB for ROM + 1 GB for Internal Storage + 1.7 GB for Internal SD Card

1GB is system storage for apps, 1.7GB is USB storage for storage, which is also know as internel SD, and if not mistaken, the rest 1.3GB is used by system, ROM, etc
Please correct me if I am wrong
Hope it helps
Hi! Any one else having memory issues after the update, my S21FE memory collapses, seems like the software can no tell between the internal storage and the ram memory. The internal storage reads 8 gb and you read -1 GB available. You have to restart the phone so it reads the memory well after restart more than 200 gb available on the internal memory. Took a screenshot when it was messed up but the phone didn't save it because thought has no memory...
