Hi all,
I recently purchased a new battery for my arc. It says it is a 2500 mAh rather than the standard 1500 mAh that comes with the phone. I put it into to my phone charged it like it said and i didnt realy get much more from it. I downloaded an app that gives you the battery info and it said it is only a 1500mAh!! I contacted the company and they apologised and sent another one out and this is doing the same. Before i complain to them i was after some advice
Do i need to do something with my phone like calibrate the battery or something or is it that the company are telling lies by saying its a 2500mAh battery but in fact its only a 1500mAh?
Any help would be great as i dont want to complain if iv not done something right haha
Thanks in advance for any help
Hels x
The arc is hard coded to only read 1500. So your arc will drop to 0% but if you remove the battery and put it back in, it should read the remaining charge if your battery really is 2500
Here's what was posted in another thread.
3. Here comes the tricky part:
The phone seems to be unable to display accurate readings of the battery.
It drains from 100% to 1% approximately the same way stock does and then I have to pull it an re-insert it and when the phone boots it displays 65%. Same way, every time it hits 1%, I have to do the same and the percentage rises.
I looked into /sys/class/power_supply and found a folder called semc_battery_data. I searched further and realised that the capacity (1500) and type (Li-Pol) are actually hardcoded on kernel level. HTC developers have already addressed similar issues on kernel level.
I talked to Bazoocase (the developer of the 0% battery issue work-around, so pretty much the expert on the Arc battery gauge!)
about it and he confirmed that this is really the case:
If the battery have the same size as the original, then it isn't a 2500 mAh battery. If it is a 2500 mAh, then it must be bigger, so you need a other back cover. If you buy a gold battery, or something called like that, they are faked. Most of that batteries don't have a over charge protection, so they can heating up, damage your phone, or blowing them self up, if it is a real cheap battery.
i've a 11000maH. It's amazing
What's it like having a brick?
Ask someone with an arc to compile a special kernel for arc for 2500mAh battery capacity.
Tell them it's located here.
http://50.56.186.177/devkern/2.6ics/arch/arm/mach-msm/charger-anzu.c
Code:
struct device_data device_data = {
.limit_tbl = &limit_tbl,
.battery_capacity_mah = [U][COLOR="Blue"][B]1500[/B][/COLOR][/U],
.maximum_charging_current_ma = 1050,
};

No no, don't do that. You must be absolutely sure it's a 2500 mAh battery, otherwise you damage your battery, or phone. A 2500 mAh battery cannot have the same size as a original 1500 mAh. If you want a 2500 mAh or higher, then it is a extended battery, with a other back cover. Use a multimeter to test it. You will see that the batteries have 1500 mAh, not the promise 2500 mAh.
Thanx to this post i was about to buy that kind of battery
I also have an extended battery, but not 2500 mAh but around 1850 or so. 2500 in the same sized housing seems to be pretty unrealistic.
I'm interested in a fixed kernel with higher battery capacity built in. But, yes it does involve some risk. For instance, you can not use your original battery anymore...
Any news on this idea of an modified kernel?

Just make sure it is a real 1800mah, or the chip will charge it longer than its true capacity, heating it up and causing fire/explosion.

Thanks MarioLouis. You're right.
In another post about the same topic from iridaki, there mentioned that with this kernel mod you can use both the high ànd lower capacity battery's.
Unfortunately I'm not on gingerbread so can't test the proposed mod from Irdaki's post.
Anyone heard of or tested this?

Wait does that need a new back or is it the same size as the OEM battery? There are some good comments under his feedback for this battery.

Its the same size at the original.. but seems fake idk
hmm has 4.35v vs 3.8 oem and has plenty of positive reviews, tempted to buy it
4.35V just the max charge, same with OEM battery. 3.8V is the nominal charge...just another fake battery

Why would voltage dictate capacity? They have nothing to do with each other.
So who's gonna be the brave soldier and buy this?

they don't. wtfmateim65 implied in his post that 3.8V and 4.35V made a difference, i was trying to clear up that misconception.
since the battery is the same size as OEM, there's no way that this battery is 3250mAh as claimed. also, if you look at the back of the battery it says 4.2V...just another fake like i said.
this seller is also implying in his auction that these batteries have short life, and to ignore it because of a "memory effect" that li-ion chemistry batteries do not have.
all in all, would not trust the rating, but it may certainly be a good replacement for the stock battery -- sans NFC and the extra mAh claimed.
Damn wouldn't that be a nice deal

I´ve checked the negative feedback for the last months of that ebay-shop and other which offer stock size monster battery´s, and some sounds like this: "misrepresented strength of battery", "Bad battery no difference between the original one and this battery very poor", so it seems like clear fake mAh strength. :crying:
I think Samsung itself would equip their flagship with a thin stock-sized 3000 mAh battery if it would be technically possible, but i think it is not and all the ebay items are fake. There are a few other battery’s on ebay with similar strength (2850, 2950 mah), and there are also negative feedback about their real battery performance, except the good feedback for fast shipping or something unimportant.
I bought two weeks ago a Polarcell 2400 mAh battery and I´m not disappointed, but also not really happy, there is almost no noticeable difference in life perfomance between the stock 2100mAh and polarcell 2400mAh (+15%), but i think their 2400mAh is real, because the Polarcell is noticeable heavier and like in all corners 1mm bigger than the Samsung stock.
Advantages and disadvantages.

Has anyone ever heard of it? Will I get some advantage over the used Sony BA750 battery?
Also, anyone knows a good app or method to look into the deep details of the battery? thanks.
It's only 1000 Mah more than the battery that came with the arc/s. I wouldn't expect anything noticeable in battery life to be honest =/

Found this battery on Aliexpress http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...D821-D820-battery-BLT9/339866_1760720916.html
Wondering if thats even possible? and if anyone have tryd it out?
the battery is easily replaceable if you know how to open up the phone
I know how to change it. Wondering if this is possible 3830mAh where the stock battery is just 2300mAh.
Buy it and put it in battery tester. File a claim if it's not 3800 mAh.

Non-OEM batteries make false claims about their ratings on a daily basis. They never provide as much power as they claim and using them increases the risk of your phone exploding.
Even if it's a full 3830 mAh the cheap knock-off batteries like that typically have greatly increased internal resistance which leads to not actually achieving any better battery life.
It's not ideal but if you really longer battery life I'd recommend an external option, like this.
Does anyone tried a different battery capacity? I found a 3000 mAh on ebay, did anyone tried it?
Do you think is harmful?
Thank you in advance
Is this battery built by HTC was is a third-party battery that is working with HTC?
It isn't a HTC battery, is a spare with more capacity, but I don't know if it's harmful or not, I didn't found anything in internet about it...
I don't think the battery capacity will harm the phone, maybe just the battery will hold longer or not, depends on it's quality.
The point is: does the actual stock battery has a fix number of cycles or whatever? The actual battery has 2850 mah capacity, the new one 3000...the difference of 150 mah will be recognized by the mobile? This is my concern..

The phone will charge and discharge the extra 150mAh but the correct capacity will not be reported by software.
Anyway 2850 vs 3000 is a little change, and if the battery quality is lower than HTC original battery maybe you'll not see any difference or maybe the battery will hold shorter.

From what i've seen on the Galaxy Gear S forums, somebody fitted a bigger battery inside and it worked just fine.
And his watch now lasts a few more days.
Anyway, for 150mAh more is simply not worth the risk.
