Update 5/28 noon 30
I am uploading right now, however I never thought that I should create an uploading directory until today. That way if I am uploading files like I am now, someone doesnt start downloading and they get a bad file. So with the exception of what I am doing now, from now on anything I upload will go into a temp dir then I will transfer to its proper place.
I am going to work on an FTP for anon uploading, give me some time, I am concerned about Malware, trojens, and other malicious acts by people on the web, I want this to be a safe place for all Android users to access files for their devices.
I am also considering adding 3-5 more devices to the mirror, but I would need to get the Anon FTP up first, my upload speeds suck so damn bad.
Also, I might just add that Wiki that droid512 suggested, and let whomever has more time and knowledge admin it. 2 kids, broken back, severely damaged arms/hands and being on pain meds ALL the time screws up my ability to jump on the puter and help out.

Update 5/25 11pm
Open directory browsing is enabled for www.blackmugmedia.com/Android/ I figured it would be alot easier to be able to go through the different directories and locate any file you may need.
I am still uploading, my home connection sucks, 768 up.
Right now I am setting up my server hosted on fatcow with a mirror of all gtab roms, kernals, stock recovery, etc. Organized in directories for GSM, cdma, and wifi.
I would like to enable anonymous uploading, however....I am a security freak, so for right now ill upload everything I have for my cdma Verizon tab, then start downloading GSM and wifi files to place on the server.
If you are a Dev and want your project mirrored, send me a pm with a link and ill grab it and upload it.
I will update this post with links to the directories a little later today when I have enough stuff uploaded.
Effective today....these files will stay for the next 3 years.
If I can find a way to allow anonymous uploading and still have high security, I will update this post.
Mods, feel free to sticky if you like

Why dont you install a hosting/upload script and then create user accounts for devs who wish to use the service.

Ok look buddy, all that **** went over my head like a 747. ha ha, yeah. Web stuff, I dont get it.
However...I was going to give Devs FTP accounts like I did for Spacemoose, but I posted it in the "General" section and I dont think it was seen by any devs.
So, tell you what, if you care to, give me a call, help me get what you suggested a go, and mabe make it a little easier? I dunno. All I know is I dont have money I can spare to donate, but I do have 3 years of hosting paid up and my domains attached to the server, so......I figured it would help alot.
Oh, updated OP with links/structure... etc.
Well tbh im not really an expert in hosting. If I want a website I just get a webhost with Cpanel etc then upload the script I want to use/configure/install it.
I wouldnt really know bets place to start on a raw dedicated server or VPS as im more a windows guy and bets software like cpanel etc is linux based afaik.
Do you have any hosting software installed or is it just a raw server with OS? And how much traffic and bandwidth did you get with your 3 year hosting?
Im hosted through Fatcow. Ive had this hosting plan for the past few years, never really used it.
Its Linux, Cpanel, all set up. Really just need to familiarize myself with it again, as I haven't looked at it in 2 years.
Ive done 1 FTP account so far, takes like 2 minutes to do, spent time creating directories for the hosting of roms/kernals/recovery/apps, etc. Just slowly chipping away at uploading what I have, then I will start downloading files from this forum if they still exist, then put them up on the mirror.
Open directory is active now, figured it was the easiest option for people to scroll through.
So, I guess I started something that will probably end up being very big, as once the Tab is all uploaded, then I start on the Droid X, then I'll pick a device to start with. Hell, as far as I am concerned, Ill host a mirror and repository for all Android Devices.
I have unlimited bandwidth and space, I informed Fatcow of my intention, they thought it was cool, said I was ok and I started.
this is awesome man I appreciate it. i vote sticky but i also vote a vzw wiki since theres totally not enough stuff for cdma tabs

I was searching through some of the scripts fatcow offers me, well besides the chat room thing I installed just to make my wife laugh, but a wiki add on, so yeah, its possible if someone wants to admin it I can put it up.
If anyone feels the directory structure should be different than what I came up with, please feel free to jump in and say so. I'm not going to get all butt sore because the world of android users think that my gift could benifit from a better layout.
Also, I think I will indeed instal that wiki page, if a few of you more experienced uber nerds want to admin the wiki, shoot me an email or pm and ill get you set up. I would do it, but my entries would probably be lame, and wrong.

Hey man,
Will you please upload modems i posted to your directory? Is it ok. I am just saying since you never know what free file hosting sites will do to your files. Just look at dropbox latest policy changes
I can certainly put the modems up. I was busy the past 2 days, decided to give Ubuntu 11.04 a spin, and was digging it so much I forgot to do other stuff. So ill get back to making directories and uploading today.
And what do you mean modems you posted to my directory?. Am I not fully awake yet?. I'm confused.

Funny HA, HA
The FTP SIte has been trashed.
Both Kitchens are gone
The Extended rom folders is gone
And a load of other folders to.
Well that was 2 months of hard work up the swany
Funny HA, HA NOT!

Who would do something like that...this is rediculous...!
I think it is time the ftp gets locked....but then again, I am not in charge.
Another idea I had was to CHMOD directories...posted that in another post. Best way really is to not allow anyone access to ftp, and post the links to the files in a thead here on the forum.
I am really disappointed...I do have several ROMs downloaded, so let me know if I can help ya, MDAIIIuser.
Well I have pm peter in the hope that there is a backup.
Well that is what I did, posted every file in wiki, applicatins, ext roms, kitchen files, the lot, All gone.
Surely it is backed up and just needs restoring. Some may be missing but most would be there
I will help you rebuild it...if you want.
This is not normal...crap...I just had a look, and indeed...a ****load of stuff is gone.
Have Peter check the FTP logs...we might be able to trace this back by IP to the guilty party.
Well can you PM him with that Idea, dont think he will wont to read a 2nd Pm from me.
I am uploading what i can into a folder. it will need sorting out not a huge amount of stuff but all i can help with. I think somebody did a move rather than a copy in windows. can it not be set to read and write only and not change
I have downloaded the ext. Roms of all german Providers. If theres no backup, tell me, and I will upload them.
I have sent out to PM to the admins, lets wait untill we get somefeed back before we start uploding to much.
Somebody will have to create the Dirs so that the wiki links work again and I am realy not up to it any more, its been to much work that I have just seen go down the tube, to much work that I have done alone.
I leave this up to the admins and the GREAT HELPFUL XDA-Forum users.
kitchen 1-22
I can restore 1-22 for you if you like.
Have most files here.
This is not funny.
The folders should be read only.
What i had from kitchen 1-22 is back now
kpn files are missing also.
I have put as much to the site as I have......reckon it maybe safer to make read only and have a moderator(s) who can upload????
I added bleuttoh cabs, and Varous cab upgrades and progs...

Can we set up some of system which file allow new user to download and some of file allow more poster to download file,I saw some of web site in Taiwan or China had this kinds system,if post one get one piont ,upload get 5 piont or 10 piont , set up some of file only allow some piont can be download that maybe will take care this problem or just use PM to ask to link download.
hi
totally disagree with with mwang..
i hate that system and think its not suitable for this great sites users..
what we all can be is a bit more responsible as far as the ftp is concerned..with making the files read only so that no one but moderators can change the file structure.. or something.. maybe a moderated seperate upload download areas can help further
just my 2 cents
I totally agree with zohaer21 about the files. They should be a read only type of file. I hate to see these kind of things happen, but there are just some people who get off on screwing things up.

Hi
Sorry to hear about the FTP site. I use mirrordir on my sites to push changes to a closed FTP box daily in the small hours off a cron job. Its pretty configurable and only sends changed files etc. I do it to avoid saturating my ADSL link - upload jpgs into ISP webspace daily, and have site link to them instead of local copies.
For backup/anti-tosser purposes, you prob dont need this - why dont you just write a simple script to copy the ftp site outside the ftp/http root once a day? Least then you can just copy it back in afterwards. All depends on available space, I know.
Nigel
Writing a new script for this is not needed. There are tons of scripts/proggies out there that can do this, no reinventing the wheel...
But I think the idea is excellent...keep originals on ftp, and update whenever needed to http location/folders.
So, We mirror this site to one of our own privat sites?
Sure it works but we all move on, get new toys and show no intrest. Who is going to do the admin on that.
Well my status is that I have two PM to two Admins that reamin in my outbox.
I am posting to a forum that is moderated but no admin has seen this thread.
I am truely gratful to the upload of the 1.22 kitchen, *vastloper*, thanks
Wiki needs to following folders
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Extended_Roms
ftp://xda:[email protected]/BlueAngel/Extended_ROM_Kitchen_1_3X
Sure we need a few of the others but those were linked in wiki.
The problem is that if we reupload all this stuff who is going to clean it up?
The wiki team has been writing in wiki for over 2 months and I (MDAIIUser) have only ever seen 2 other contributions by none team members to that site in all that time. (bar the correcection of my bad spelling which still can be seen all over the place).
Ever wondered why we have so many threads on BT, and no links in wiki for that?
Sure this is a great site if you are looking for something but it is only as good as the amount of work that goes into it by us all. The tools are there, the info is also in the forum, but it cant be upto a team of 3 to post all of it, clean up the ftp site and act as admins with NO rights to insure that the work that has been done does not get trashed by some %&/ (*hdbueller* Great comment, got your device to work again?).
Sorry, my thoughts,
I noticed that the site, as well as having forums and a wiki, has its own FTP server that's open to users. Just in case people didn't know, it might be a good way to get useful, free software to users without using rapidshare and services like that.
If there's a historical reason why people don't use it, I wouldn't mind knowing that too.

you talk about it now act apon it give us the FTP IP address.
It's in the wiki. There's not much in the Excalibur directory right now. That's why I asked.
Edit: Did some homework on the FTP site. It seems someone totaled it back in '06 and it hasn't been the same since. The Kaiser guys use it more than anyone else, but the way it's set up, uploaders send files to an upload section and a moderator moves the approved files into the available-for-download section. From this perspective, I guess things like rapidshare and mediafire would be better options for people getting software out. It's just not always so obvious which characters have the damned cat on them.
Great stuff so far on there, you guys rock!

On the other hand you can pm myself, lukybandit or mikey1022 the rapidshare link and one of us will "take one for the team" and deal with the kitty cats for the purpose of putting it on the ftp.... or course only as long as the upload is necessary
I was just thinking it would save hunting through threads or asking "can you give me a link to that file?" or "that link's expired" or "rapidshare says my max has been reached for free users" etc. etc.
In this way, just like most of the pertinent information is"check the wiki," finding the right file in a hurry would be "check out the ftp site!"
But yeah, it's a little more work for all parties involved just to have everything in one, easy-to-find place.
EDIT: The link for the download section is ftp://xda:[email protected]/smartphones/Excalibur
The login/password given for the upload section (xdaupload:xda) doesn't seem to be working.
I was thinking along the lines of supporting the FTP site awhile back when I discovered the Wiki. Seems like it would be a more logical way to store Excaliber files. I had major problems trying to upload and finally gave up. Maybe your thread will get the FTP going.
Hey all developers
I'v started a small site which i hope will grow fast
I'm offering all developers free hosting for your ROM's on my server.
romn****.info.
I got several developers interested and signed up already and im working on better design at the moment.
It has high speed and unlimited bandwidth and lots of storage.
All developers has unlimited storage so no worries about that.
Any interest?
Send me a pm
ask questions here and let me know what you think of this in this topic??
what about using dropbox?
it's site with 2G free space which easly could be used as exchange box for developers, like for usual users...
nice feature is direct downloading to sd card in android client, so you don't have to download rom with desktop browser and then send it to phone download, reboot to rescue, flash, be happy
try my referral link https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTcwMTc5NDA5 which would add me some space above that 2G for free
I'm just offering a service
Its good speed, lots of storage, not limited as dropbox is.
And i offer own personal website for each developer if they want.
And im trying to have many roms at one place.

Dropbox has issues when you have a lot of people using your public links, which I had through only hosting a little radio ROM.
God knows how they'd cope with me hosting ROMs there. I might upload a few and see
But a good and generous offer from the OP

IPv6 support & ROM torrents?
Getting IPv6 support for your site & creating torrents of ROMs may certainly help you with site performance & creating a niche for yourself.
we are looking into this and we will see what happens
A cautionary note...
If sites like this proposed ROM hosting site do proliferate it will become even more important for all ROM releases to have an MD5 sum posted in a place other than on the ROM hosting site.
It is not beyond imagination that phone software could be maliciously compromised at source. Then where would we all be?
But, to be clear, I cast no aspersions on this particular cove making this current hosting offer.

That is in fact very true, and should be done on all occasions for any ROM release. Passwords get cracked, hosting sites get compromised etc. so it's a good idea
I have an auto md5 script somewhere I use on villainrom.co.uk, and i dont think it was too hard to make. Maybe these should be used more often
I believe the main obstacle is to establish a secure and reliable repository for the ROM checksums. If that will be available, I don't think responsible ROM developers will have problems with using it, one by one - especially if the more popular ROMs will join the effort.
Working with Pulser and should atleast have the function added by the end of the day.

.... meanwhile you've made no response to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=719113#8
Just how are you going to ensure the security and integrity of ROMs entrusted to you? How am I, as a punter, going to know whether your site is to be trusted or if someone on your site, (or from outside even) has tampered with the ROM I'm downloading?
You cannot ignore these issues and just hope they'll go away. Just how are you going to manage the risks? Tell us please!

Had an idea or two, which I am looking into soon
It would be totally external to this site. I am looking into encryption stuff just now
Just my two cents;
On Villainrom.co.uk we already run md5 checks when we push out files, and we sync the mirrors often, and it will check each file when it does. Any files that does not match the one we have locally will be deleted and reuploaded.
For complete control its important that people check the md5sums. This will not only let them know they got the correct rom but also that their download was not corrupted.
One thing we are looking into is a rom downloader. We would distribute a small .exe file that would download the rom from our mirrors and then verify the downloaded file against the sha1/md5 we have on file, before making the file available to the user. This would be optional.
Btw there is an inherent risk in installing custom roms in the first place.
One thing also that would work is to make a updated list in a thread with checksums for current ROMs so its easy to check here.

And what's to stop the thread being edited? Look, you probably see me as a nuisance just making trouble for you. I assure you I'm not. If you want a workable business to provide income - and I guess that's your motivation for this - you need to think long and hard about security. Maybe Androids are 'safe' right now... but next week or next month? It won't be long before the bad guys are seeking to look over my shoulder when I use my Android to check my bank account or make a flight booking with my credit card. At the moment I 'trust' developers with a track record in this forum and assume that released ROMs are pulled apart and scrutinized by other teams. That aids my security.
With your planned site, a ROM could be released, scrutinized by other developers on release, but a week later altered by someone adding some malevolent code to the ROM. If I can imagine it then someone is probably planning to do it!

I'm pretty sure that one was addressed somewhere. I can't remember where, but I remember seeing that the file was updated since there was a fix shortly after release.
But I'm thinking of something better than just a script on the site. I'm talking about a public-key verifiable list of MD5 sums. Need to look into it a bit more.
But TBH I think a bit much emphasis is being placed on this. I work in IT security, and have to say that whilse caution is always good, really the only way to be safe is to make the ROM yourself, compiled from AOSP, and sift each line of source code manually.
But yeah, all OTA updates ARE md5'd and issued, as mcduck actually made that code
I'm embedding this for releases too soon
Hi,
On the 14th of March i started a new project called XDA File Server. The purpose of the site is to host files for Dev's and give users a nice spot where they can find them. And so far it's been busy! 1,7TB has been uploaded allready and 11000+ vistors and more then 11000 files served!
The server it self runs on a 100mbit optic fiber line and should provide a decent speed to most people.
On the moment you'll find ROMS for the asus transformer, lg optimus 2x and xperia s (orginal firmware on the moment), i'm still expanding but it takes time and money! Hope you guys/girls like it !
the url: http://www.xdafileserver.nl
You can also follow me on xdafileserver on twitter.
Korumera
*bump*
I'm still working on a easy and clean design so dont panic when you see one design first and a few seconds or minutes an other one, the downloads will go on.
Some stats so far:
almost 1000 unique vistors in only 3 days! 190GB downloaded so that's nice too. If any other dev's need xs let me know. I'll add some stock roms as well by gee one for restoring
Stock recovery might be a good addition as well.

Thanks for the tip
I'll find a good version and add it
Actually now that i think about it a good selection of tools like nvflash, adb, nachoroot, vipermod, drivers, superwipe, CWM 3.something and 5.something, Rogue recovery, other stuff that might be useful. Sort of like a one stop shopping kinda place.
This is such an awesome gesture. Thank you!
Another suggestion: Maybe you can have some pages (or the main pages) on your site link through coralcdn.org by appending .nyud.net to the domain part of your URL. By doing this, for public content, HTTP requests are automatically redirected through a custom peer-to-peer network using DNS and distributed amongst a huge number of caching proxies, reducing the load on the original server as well as bringing content closer (network topologically) to the requester.
Note: I am not connected to coralcdn.org in any way.

Good idea! I'll msg most of these dev's if they are ok with the mirror ( think they are but it's nice to do). And i'll make a folder for these things.
I'm still working on the site to make it as fast as possible for users that are on the other side of the world, but it's not going to be routed trough any dns service of anykind it's on a 100mbit fiber line it should be fast enough and it should support proper download managers (so you could resume).
I'll show some stats from this week later on
I'm in indonesia if that's far enough away for ya. Sometimes it drops out but that's at my end and it still maxes out my 3g.

edit: seems my 3g doesnt like your server. On a landline it seems to be working well.
Nopes it's running on full speed on the moment. But i'm going to change setup soon so perhaps that will fix it for you
oh and for those on 3g try: THIS and let me know of that works
Moving to a more appropriate place
I find your project very useful.
Do you consider including other devices as well?
Hi
Yes that's the general idea indeed. But i'm starting up slowly with some dev's and adding more while to goes on. First wanna see how much data this is gonna take .
A member of team xperia is uploading some files and is gonna use it for the 2011 range (and the comming 2012) after that i'll find and ask a galaxy 2 dev if he want's to mirror/host the files on my server
Just a note that the word 'you' on the website's main banner should read 'your'. As if you don't have enough to do.
Thanks for your work and such a cool idea for a Site.

Ok thanks
haven't checked the text yet and gonna rewrite it soon. I'm working on an different site (same layout) but more options!

Hi
Try this link HERE
let me know!
I set up this pack for people who might be new to the Android community. It has all of the most popular hacks and mods along with simple explained out instructions. I didn't create any of the programs nor did I come up with any of these methods. I just organized them and put simple instructions in each folder so that everything would be in one place and to simplify the process for some of the newer members who this is their first time messing around with any device.
NewbPackv1 includes:

Are you downloading the torrent right now? And then you will mirror it for me on your server? And send me the link so I can post it to the top. I will be working on keeping this fully updated and the total guide as a how-to for everything GS4. Let me know if anyone has a spot that I can upload these files to. I think all rared up it's around 2.5gb. At this point in time. Of course over the next few months it will continue to get larger and larger. So I'm eventually going to have to categorize everything in sections. But it's a process. As for now this is everything you need to know and to have to be up to date what us with our locked bootloaders can do.

I don't know what I am going to do when I keep updating this.... I don't want to have to throw out a new torrent everytime and then have to have someone else upload it everytime. LOL. I think that I will figure out a different format for it and add packs to it so that people can just keep adding to the Tools folder on there desktop. Or create another thread with a different pack or something. I will have to do some brainstorming. I'm open to ideas. I'll probably just break down and pay for a dev-host account.

Your VERY much welcome. The only thing I ask is to link everyone via this http://storagecow.tk/index.php?dir=Xda/JohnMonsour/ and not direct links.

Alright. Got it. It'll be done uploading here in about an hour and a half.
Since you're posting live links while uploading, you might want to consider sharing the MD5 of the complete package so that downloaders can be sure they have the correct and complete file.

Ok the MD5 Hash for the Newb pack is: 6FE5D348EEEFC66ACA359F51F330540A
Thanks for the heads up.
Seeding the torrent on my box for the next 60 days. Great package!
I did something like this and it got moved to General.
Swyped from the 4th Galaxy on XDA Premium.
Thank's for seeding! Keeping good torrents isn't hard to do if everyone plays there role!
I will continue to update it with more useful tools as they become available. I'll upload a new torrent with all the new stuff in a rar. And I make sure I paraphrase in layman terms sot that even the newest of the new should have no issue
And to take it even farther I plan on having a few rar's that will be for certain sections if they wouldn't need the others for some reason.
Simplifying everything down into about 5 to 10 folders root, pseudo roms, Roms, tools for debloating, an xposed folder, odin and recovering, and eventually in the very new future, custom recoveries, Full on Roms, kernels.... etc the possibilities are endless.
Simple for us but if someone had never dealt with android before it is no walk in the park. But that's why I am here putting out simplified packages with organized and easy to follow instructions.
The number one concern is getting our damn boot loader out of att jail, after that its all gravy. when I get some more time I will start making a guide on everything anyone should know about the galaxy s4 and what tools are available and what devs we have working on them and what the future holds for us with the Gs4. It's going to be a lot of work but it will cut down on a lot of flaming and ignorant questions.
P.s. On storage cow... The link for newb pack says its 0 kb just ignore it and it will download fine its about 2.7gb.
And also thanks for support.
Thank you for the n00b pack! I just got my new S4 ATT phone the other day and was looking around to see what I could do to it.
Took me a bit to find the torrent for this pack, but I did. The link in the OP points to a Torrent file that is no longer used. Instead, use the following link:
http://thepiratebay.sx/torrent/8503670
I will be seeding this torrent as well for as long as I can.
Thank you very much for putting it all together and I can't wait to see what I can do to this and with this phone.
