So I've been happily using Mobo Player for a good few months on my Desire, and now on my SGS2.
Now that I have a phone capable of 720p mkv playback, I've put a few HD shows on there as well.
Problem is that some of them are very quiet, maxing out the volume is still too quiet, whereas some of the other videos are fine.
Now rather than re-encoding the lot to boost the volume (defeating the point of having a phone that can play them natively), is there a video player out there that can handle mkvs and also has EQ settings where I can boost the levels or up the gain?
Cheers
Just download "equalizer" from the market and put all the bands to Max when ur watching a film.

I have the first Mortal Kombat movie and I have no idea how to make it louder so I can heart it on my evo, any tips?

I've had the same problem and honestly, the best solution I've found is to either use headphones or a set of powered computer speakers. There is software available (like Film Redux/Visual Hub for the Mac) that will let you reencode a movie with the audio gain increased. This helps some but it can only do so much before the sound becomes distorted.
Using headphones helps but still sounds like whispers, guess I will have to go back to searching for a way to increase it..

If it's that bad, maybe it's the movie. Whoever ripped the movie originally might not have had the audio settings right. If that's the case, you might have better luck trying to find a different copy.
Well I would appreciate if someone had a good copy of mortal kombat..anyone?

There is an app for rooted users called Louder Sound Hack or something along those lines. Might wanna check it out.
Thanks, haven't tried the app yet but I found a better solution. If mp4 don't work well, use avi, it had better sound quality. Got MK with 2.5x audio, at the price of 300 extra MBs...gahhh damn lol

theres also DSP manager. no root necessary i believe. works extra bluetooth settings, headset and phones speaker. and very good equalizer
Hey guys, just wondering what everyone is using for a video player? I tried vital player and v player and they both fc :/ any ideas for playing .avi on ics?

I use MX player
Ive had quite good results with both the ones you've listed definitely faster frame rate with 1080p avi's with vplayer..
MX Player has been really good for me, for videos that play without sound in the Gallery you can enable audio software decoding and software decoding works well for video too.

All these players dont fully stretch video image in the sides like the default player. You got full screen only in default player. In the other hand default player does not support str subtitles and also opes all videos with H/W decoder and as a result most videos lag....for example in MX Player you can choose S/W decoder and the video plays smooth like butter.
If you're willing to spend some money Dice Player works perfectly. It plays 720p mkvs fluidly and even supports embedded subtitles. It even hides the main buttons when it's in fullscreen for that 4.65 HD screen goodness : )
Theres a thread somewhere in here about it. There's also a demo version on the market:

I use mx video player and it stretches to full screen, even when skipping through the video it shows no bars or anything just pure video

How did you get it to stretch full screen?
The buttons are still there on full screen...
When I get home I'll find out my setting and what works

They are for me too. Diceplayer got rid of them but I cant get the full version now. Hopefully it will turn up somewhere.
Diceplayer is the only one that goes true full screen as of now.
MX Player still shows buttons in full screen.
I think these two are currently the best. Both are worth trying out as each has it's own strengths, find out which works better for your files/subtitles.
The full version of Diceplayer is back up

I am wondering if anyone else is having issues playing HD video on the A100. I have put multiple different HD files on the device itself and tried to play them in MX Media Player, but the playback is downright horrible. Even with hardware rendering. I really want to be able to play my media over my network, but right now, it is just waay too choppy to watch, even with it on the card. Is there something I am missing?
with HD you mean 1080p videos? if so, try Mobo Player, it works really god at fullHD videos (at least for me).
also streaming 1080p is sketchy at best on wifi..

well it is suppose that acer a100 suports fullHD, so try killing processes or cleaning cache. what's your android version? (3.2 or 3.2.1)
What audio s used on the files, I have noticed that 720p mkv movies using DTS for example will outright kill performance.
Try using a 4GB 'scene' release with stereo audio if you haven't on MX Video to see if helps.
Look what i found, it may work.
Link.
I am using BSPlayer lite. This works the best for my MKV's with no audio loss. It loses some frames but plays more than MX Video or MoboPlayer.
You will need to get the ARM7 add on for it.
Try this out. I am able to stream my over 4gb MKV's from my server to my A100.
The tegra 2's only downfall... its horrible at decoding high profile HD video such as H264 video. Should be able yo run 720p just fine though depending on the type of video. I'd say try clearing up some memory.
I honestly don't see the point of playing 1080p video on a 7" tablet, seems like overkill. I can understand that its convenient to have 1 file that'll run on all your devices, but unfortunately that can't always be the case.

I used to use MX Player with my Epic Touch 4G but when i'm using it on my Nexus, the sound doesn't come through unless I use S/W mode but then it starts screeching and plays jittery
Is there another player out there that will work correctly?
You serious? I have MX Player and both audio/video work great - perhaps it's the file you're trying to play?
And besides, MX Player supports UDP (and my IPTV provider streams via UDP so.... )
yup, most likely the video file i'm using but my Epic Touch 4G plays it without issues. I was so excited when MX Player came out, it handled 100% of my files with the ET4G. I thought the TI processor is better than the Exynos?

They do play better on the Epic 4G Touch... I came from that phone as well. More things are able to play in Hardware mode than with the GNex.
Try this: VPlayer

I don't know about that, but I'll be careful with my words lest I be jumped on by GNex fanboys
I have no issue with software mode sound, hardware mode video runs smoother than software mode though.
No issues at all everything runs Buttery smooth
Galaxy Nexus Stock + Franco m3
Mx is the best
Never had any issues with the mx player.
Do you allow it use both cores (Settings ->Decoder-> CPU Core Limit)
Also try limiting to 16 bit color depth.

Have you tried DicePlayer? That works very good for me.
It has a free version with ads and a paid version without ads.
I'm using that version with ads, but I think it's worth the money.
Mostly using it for watching MP4 files, but I has a huge list of supported formats.
I use Proamp and it works well. Never had an issue once

After using many and many I have landed on BSPlayer
BSPlayer
BSPlayer plugin
Let me know what do you think of it
the only thing missing from mxplayer is a widget otherwise it works perfectly for every video on mine, could you post a sample maybe if you have some slowdowns? maybe its some settings that have to be adjusted

Anybody know which the best HW supporting media player is for the One X?
I really like dice player but it won't let me fast forward M2TS files :/
try bs player (my player of choice for hd content) or mx player.
I think alla other players than DICE player makes the HOX get hot .
I watch videos all the time using bs player and it doesn't get hot for me. Long story short though try those apps see which is best for you.
Dice player for me is awful there's loads of my media it doesn't play well (it struggles with the audio tracks mostly).
I think BSplayer is the best one! It plays everything! It even plays in HW-mode through network, which most of the other have serious problems with. And directly from rars too.
However, the only player we know for sure that's using the companion core is the built in one, but maybe power-saving isn't any concern? But with HW-decode on the other players, one should think the load should be low enough for the companion core, but who knows?
yup thats what I found, if you want something that just works with your media bs player is the one. I tried every player going for some of my media and that was the only one that handled the audio tracks properly etc.
I dont think any 3rd party players yet will be optimized for tegra 3 to use the companion core, the stock player does it so thats good it shows it can be done but there are not many devices out there yet with tegra 3 so 3rd party apps havent caught up.
No luck either on all players i've tried with fast forwarding m2ts files
Bs player was one of the best ones I found
However I think i'll stick to Dice player for now, everything seems to play smoothly. Just a shame I can't fast forward/rewind m2ts files
Have you tried Mobo player? It's free and so far has managed everything I have thrown at it...
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Yeah i've tried that as well sadly, it doesn't like my m2ts files either
I'll have to find some way of muxing them to mkv cheers anyway
you could try format factory http://www.formatoz.com/ and I hear good things about video spirt (get the light version for free) http://www.verytools.com/videospirit/index.html
I am using mx player pro version and it is good. It can play all videos.

MXPlayer.
It's bad-ass. I haven't found anything it won't play (oh.... hang on, flv's! - but I don't have any)
+1 for MXPlayer. This app is awesome. Great quality video and support subs.
But what I like the most is that it can play file streamed from PC with very little buffering (depend on video size though). I really enjoy watching without having to transfer tons of files to the phone
Also an MX player user. Would get the pro if it was on sale otherwise happy with the free version.

I used mxplayer for a while but it struggled with Mkv with ac3, and in s/w mode it got hot.
I switched to dice and it not only plays Mkv with ac3 flawlessly but stays cool.
Watching 720p videos on this phone is just amazing... Sometimes it's better than watching on a big screen. there is more depth to the picture.

thats basically exactly the issue I keep having with it, loads of my media is MKV and most of it has AC-3 audio which mx player fails at. Sure dice works well for it but so does BS player
Either way there are good options out there, its just a shame that I ended up paying for mx player and vplayer etc only to have to use a free app (bs player) because they dont do as good a job

Hi.. Sorry I may sound noob but I've never knew we can stream videos from pc to HTC one X. Can you please guide me how to do so? And yeah I have MX player, if that is what's required.
Just share your movies as you would share any other folder, open it with a file manager from your phone and play the files (this is technically "streaming" but still you watch your movies without having to transfer them). MX does nice job but some files need to be played in sw mode when played from a network location.
