[Q] Wow, I'm a Noob.... No but Really, Please Help Me. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I was trying to flash the newest ARHD, I already had 3.2, so i decided it was time to update. I read through the post and saw i needed clockwork 3.0.2.6 or higher, so I installed it through rom manger, This didn't work the first time so i deleted the file off my sd card, and tried again, my phone booted into CWM, I wiped cache, dalvik cache and system/data partitions. The tried to install the rom, I kept getting the error "(bad)" . So i booted into fastboot and with my extensive knowledge of command prompt (I'm used to terminal), proceeded to use fastboot commander, and tried to flash an older CWM through that, it said "SUCCESS" so i tried to boot into recovery to find out that it hangs at the HTC screen, then I tried to flash the rom through fastboot commander, and it failed, my original nand backup's system.img has gone corrupt, so the only thing I can do is flash the 1.32 PD98IMG.zip, so I put this on my sd card, well attempt, and my newish 16gb sc card decides it doesn't like me and stops working, I found an old 4gb card (I lost my 8gb) and copied the image to it, now when i boot into bootloader with the image on the formated sdcard, it goes through the image check at the start but takes maybe 3 minutes, then loads into the bootloader. During the check it fails on PD98IMG.zip and cannot find any of the others, is my DHD bricked?

This is really urgent, I need my phone by tomorrow, it's 10PM, can someone please help me.

Hi,
Firstly can you answer these questions.
1) Do you have ENG S-OFF?
2) Did you check the MD5 of the PD98IMG.zip & ARHD ROM prior to flashing?

Sounds like a bad download. Did the md5 match?
I have found this, hope it helps.

any other idea?
Go into fastboot. Plug your phone in via adb. Put the recovery image into your fastboot /android folder (or whatever you have). rename it to recovery.img
type these commands in fastboot:
fastboot erase recovery
(hit enter)
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
reboot.
try fastboot erase misc
it's only booting to recovery i cannot boot into fastboot

There is nothing wrong with your Hero. I think you need to spend few hours to rectfy.
Start again with your sd card. First format and partition and reflash latest recovery.Once done mount your sd card from recovery to paste say Modaco rom. Job done.
Lord Lucan, i have tried this over and over and over again, still nothing.

[Q] another bricked phone thread; help needed

I've looked around for solutions as much as I could before posting
I've outlined everything I've done so far, not sure how much is relevant
Was running LeeDrOiD HD V3.3.1 before the phone became bricked
I rebooted the phone at one point, and the battery fell out during a reboot
Next time I rebooted it got to the ascii art android logo, onto a part with text on, and got stuck in a boot loop, the text had a progress part "so&so out of 2703kb" or something to that effect
(can't remember the text exactly)
After a few tries at rebooting it went to the home screen, however nothing loaded onto the home screen for 20 minutes, and the only function that worked was locking the screen, I couldn't turn it off or anything.
After this, everytime I booted it got stuck in a boot-loop on a splash screen of
"ANDROID" in silver writing
This is what I currently get when I boot my phone
When booted into recovery mode (hboot) I first get the message;

After I get this message I am free to go into fastboot and recovery menu
The PC recognises the phone in fastboot (I'm running windows 7)
I tried reflashing the leedroid rom straight from the recovery menu, didn't affect anything at all.
Went on to reformat sd card entirely.
Tried updating to the latest ruu, as there was no ruu that was exactly the same as mine, my phone was originally on virgin mobile and there were no ruu's with the same baseband
RUU used; RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
But the update fails part way through (after it reboots the phone) and gives

if you can go into recovery, try reflash the zip file again and let it do its job. your hboot is not screwed so it shall restart with a new flash. recommending you download oxygen and save it on your sdcard. due to its fastest to load and most stable.
Just FYI: bootloop is not any kind of brick, and you're not bricked either.
Just do full wipe and reflash the ROM.
If you want to go back stock, you will need goldcard when running RUU.

I wiped both
Yes, I partitioned it as instructed in the stickied noob guide
4GB partioned to 1GB of Ext3, the rest is FAT32. The partition is still there.
Probably something went wrong when you was creating ext partition, what i suggest is downloading this recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=661317&stc=1&d=1311251519 (md5sum zip: 170785457774834c7ae58e331d6f4ab4)
Put it onto your sdcard (root of SD, not in any folders), rename it to "PB99IMG.zip" and boot into bootloader.
It should ask if you want to update, choose yes.
Partition your SD in new recovery, it will also perfectly align it, try to flash with this should be good.

Didn't ask if it wanted to update
Text said loading image, A progress bar automatically appeared on the right, after it was done loading, it said 'checking image' then just went straight back into the bootloader
Are you sure you renamed file to PB99IMG.zip ? You can also try to rename it to PB99IMG (without extension)

Yep, just double checked and tried a few more times, redownloaded and tried again just to be sure.
When renamed without extension the phone didn't find it, renamed with .zip extension the phone seemed to recognise it, but stopped after saying "checking image"

I'm just trying to create a gold card now (didn't know about them until after I flashed)
I used Gparted
You can also try to repartition in the recovery you have right now, might help who knows.
I'm crossing my fingers for the repartitioning from current recovery mode to work
because I'm not entirely sure on how to create a goldcard without being able to boot my phone normally
*edit*
Yes, that did indeed work
seems the file structure got fudged up when the battery fell out for a reboot
such a simple solution that I overlooked at the beginning sorry
Thanks for all your help
Create goldcard and bring your phone back to stock with the ruu you already wanted to use. With three goldcard you won't get the cid error.
Run unrevoked again, but this time you use a custom recovery:
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.21/reflash_package.exe
I can highly recommend rmd recovery:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1137763
Download the zip, extract it and check the md5 of the image.
Standard amonra recovery:
www.android-hilfe.de/attachments/ro...-0-0-14-11-2010-recovery-ra-desire-v2.0.1.zip
Configure your phone correctly for using unrevoked.
Start unrevoked>file>custom recovery>choose the downloaded recovery image.
Run unrevoked.
If successfully done, go into recovery and flash custom rom.
The one k3lcior provided cannot be used as long as one is not s-on. So you cannot use it.
@k3lcior: Take care of this when you tell people to flash this recovery.

Any chance the SD card is corrupted?
card
Not sure, the card seems to work ok in my computer, and I used a different card to try and flash the roms and the return to stock PM32IMG.ZIP. I will try another card when i get one.
Install another recovery... I personally like 4ext. Its in the dev section... also did u nandroid your stock rom before flashing? Try restoring it an verifying it is a correct md5 for the rom and that your recovery is up to date

Hey, this is DroidDev from AndroidCentral. Just incase you didnt see it there:
Seems like corrupted HBOOT or Bootloader to me? Will do some more digging/thinking but it doesnt look good.
When you install the pg32img.zip, which is the stock RUU, you roll everything back to stock. HBOOT, OS, everything, even loosing root. First thing it tried to do is roll back the HBOOT, it if cant do that then you probably have corrupted HBOOT.
In the mean time I would grab the Froyo RUU here and try that:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1466295
If you were trying with the Froyo RUU, then try the Gingerbread one. The Guide in this thread, if you read it, has instructions on pushing hboot starting at step 11. But I would just do the guide from beginning to end. It will return your phone to complete stock froyo. If successful you can upgrade back to GB.
Click to collapse
If you cant get the Froyo RUU to install then I would not continue with the guide, could make it worse.
Here is a link to the GB RUU for you.
Turn on your phone and enter the bootloader, select fastboot and plug into your computer. Leave the phone here, then just run the .exe file on your computer. This'll wipe everything including bootloaders, radio, recovery etc. back to stock GB, without relying on your SD card to do the work.
It's worth a shot, while I don't think the SD card is the issue I haven't been able to not recover with an RUU before, from anything
Good luck!
Sounds like flash memory is messed up, I bet all partition sizes read zero, same thing happened to me. I tried to reformat with parted but no luck.I never could find exact sizes for the various mtblk's but my final judgment was that the physical flash memory was fried. dunno maybe if you knew the exact format sizes for everything you could try to push the needed Linux file through adb and try to reformat them one at a time, but I never could get it to work.
On a side note someone on XDA who said they work @ Verizon said they've had a rash of inc2's being turned in with similar problems, maybe a manufacturing glitch
Sent from my 2nd Incredible 2
Ok, so i tried flashing the 4EXT recovery by loading on an sd car and flashing with fastoot. Appeared to install, but still getting same problems. Tried to flash the recovery with abd fastboot from computer...just sticks a writing... never completes. Also tried flashing different backups and ROMS from flashboot with computer, with ROMS I get a message saying their is an error in zip file and can't be read. Tried to install Froyo ROM again via fastboot from SDcard. Just hangs at 2nd 1 saying updating for hrs, never completes. Not sure how to run GB RUU by the exe file? Do i extract the RUU file first? Whenever I have tried to extract those update files in the past i got an error. I'll try and figure it out this afternoon. An interesting side note, CM9 rom appears to install via flashboot from card but never loads upon reboot. Thanks to All for their continuing help!!!
PS...surfing at work and found this post - http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/6433-solved-messed-up-partitions-on-internal-storage/ - sounds similar to my problem...basically says partitions on internal storage are messed up and how to use parted to fix. May also try that.
well, tried to install the gb rom exe file. Hung almost from the start, trying to reboot phone into bootloader. I'm at loss. Guess I have a new red paperweight. Not sure how to do parted, so holding off on that for now. Open to any other suggestions.
your using the wrong ruu i think you have to get the latest update, god and i forget the link, go to rootzwiki, jelly belly has what you need or condemned soul on here
My DINC2 is FIXED!
Turn on your phone and enter the bootloader, select fastboot and plug into your computer. Leave the phone here, then just run the .exe file on your computer. This'll wipe everything including bootloaders, radio, recovery etc. back to stock GB, without relying on your SD card to do the work.

Good luck![/QUOTE]
Hey man thank you, I had the same issue as the thread starter and tried all the same methods as he did before searching the forums. Your solution worked for me after getting the latest RUU from jellybelly. This event happened to me randomly, i think the wrong buttons were pushed while my phone was in my pocket. I have a commuter otterbox case and it makes the buttons easier to press. But some tips:
1. verify md5sum
2. i had s-off so I used the latest 2.3.3 ruu file from jellybelly
3. rename downloaded zip file "PG32IMG" only exclude the .zip part like what most folks tell you.. i explain below
i initially renamed the zip "PG32IMG.zip" and stored on the root location of the sdcard, well fastboot/hboot could not find the file, after loading the sdcard back on my computer and clicking the files properties i noticed the the file name was "PG32IMG.zip.zip", after renaming the file to "PG32IMG" the bootloader was able to find the zip file and the process was completed.
4. I do not know about an .exe file, If you can get into fastboot/hboot by holding the "volume down button" + power , that is the method i did
I hope I helped somebody and thanks everybody for yours!
I had similar problems sticking on white with green HTC on it. Mine had to do with the boot.img. I had to extract a boot.img out of a rom put it in folder on C Drive installed rom with 4extrecovery let it load but did not reboot I connect to computer pulled up bootloader with adb and flashed the boot.img and flash reboot and it past that screen and loaded. Had to be unlocked to do it.

Stuck in Recovery

Hello all, I've searched around and tried many different things to resolve my little problem. I'll try and list out all the details of what I've done and perhaps someone could help me find the error in my ways.
I've got a - VZW Droid Incredible - S-On - Unlocked. The H.boot Is 1.02.000 Radio is 2.15.10.07.07.
*History*
I started with a bootloader locked Droid that was stuck in a boot loop that started after a failed OTA update. The H.boot was lower too, I'm not sure what it was. The device would only boot into the stock recovery and factory reset wouldn't help. It just hung on the white HTC screen.
To fix that I tried to flash a variety of stock images from the SD but each time it failed with a versioning error. I assume that was due to the bootloader being locked and on an OLD h.boot After some troubleshooting I was able to issue a fastboot oem reset command and I was able to boot into the OS.
So then I began working with a factory default Droid running 2.2
Once I was in the OS I used the HTC Dev site to unlock the bootloader. That all went well. I was running Stock 2.2 with a unlocked bootloader. Next I flashed a custom recovery. copied a ROM to the SD and booted into recovery to flash CM 7.2. I began to run into problems at this point.
Then and Now when I boot into recovery (TWRP, or ClockworkMod) I'm unable to mount cache, internal SD, External Sd, nor can I toggle USB. I'm not really clear on what causes that. However because I can not mount the SD I can not flash a ROM, and my attempts to get back to a working phone have been unfruitful thus far.
I created a problem at this point when I wiped System. I ASSUMED that I could drop the stock image back onto the SD card and get back to factory but that doesn't work. Because I wiped system each time I reboot the phone I go directly into recovery.
( I really didn't think that it would mount system and wipe it because it wouldn't mount the other partitions... WRONG)
So now I have a inaccessible SD card while in recovery, a wiped system partition (and boot), and no clear way to get back to good.
I've downloaded numerous stock images, formatted two different SD cards FAT32 saved the stock image to the SD Card as PB31IMG.zip and booted to HBoot watched the progress bar load/complete then it stops and I'm left sitting at the bootloader screen. I can reboot expecting to boot into a stock system but each time I'm dropped back into recovery and recovery will tell me that I have no loaded OS, to me that means the PB31IMG didn't write to system, but IDK.
A RUU won't work because I can't boot into android.
I did extract the system.img and the boot.img from a stock image and used fastboot to write both of those partitions without error, but that didn't help either.
Does anyone have some Thoughts or advice on what to do next?
Many thanks,

Try this, reformat your sdcard fat32 with a pc. Then place only this file http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip on the sd in no folders (Do not rename). Boot to hboot (vol down + power), it should find the file and prompt you to press vol up to install. I think your issue with the ruu before was that you were trying to flash an older version than you already have installed. If that dosent work try fastboot flashing cwm again, and see if it can mount the sd then.
Thread moved. Please post all questions here in the correct section of the forum.

[Q] TWRP Help! Unable to open zip, no OS installed!

Hi guys, I was changing Roms and accidentally hit wipe internal storage in TWRP.
I've tried to flash a Sinless ROM, an insert coin ROM and also looked on htcdev website to get an RUU to try and put it back to stock, yet every time I try and install a zip file through twrp it says "unable to open zip file".
I've also taken a shot at trying to add sideload the rom on there, no progress is made and eventually fails again... I've got no backups saved or anything...
Is there anything else I can try to make my phone work again? I was possibly thinking trying to get my brother to do a backup on his M8, put his SD in my phone, then restore from his back up, will this work?
Is there anything else I can try in the mean time? Really don't know what to do next...
Many thanks in advance guys
Oli
Hi,
In my ignorance, i think the failed flashes could be caused by two things:
1- the recovery you are using is not updated. Try to flash the lastest TWRP recovery or change recovery version.
2- corrupted ROM zips. Maybe there are problems while downloading the ROMS or while you copy them to your external sd card. Try to download them on another computer AND using a different browser. And maybe put the zips on a different SD card if you can. But, MOST IMPORTANT thing, check the MD5 after you've finished to download the zips.
About the nandroid backup... I think it could work BUT be sure that your brother M8 has the same brand, firmware and Android version of your M8 (before you wiped everything).
However, about this last part w8 maybe for somone else more expert the me w

Get into fastboot and type in fastboot: fastboot erase cache
Than reflash your recovery with with fastboot: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Than make sure that your downloaded zip isn't corrupted by trying to unzip it. If its successful, place the rom into the SD card and insert it into your M8 and flash from there.
Set up everything and voila, all done!

My apologies, didn't notice your reply. If his is s-on, he can try his brother's nandroid and if it fails, nothing will happen so its possible for him to restore his brother's nandroid if they are based on the same firmware
I unlocked my boot loader by htcdev, phone is s-on though.
I've downloaded each file twice, and also downloaded the insertcoin rom on another computer, made no difference. I'm using twrp 2.7.0.2 I believe...
Where would I get a new recovery.img file from? Sorry to sound stupid but I'm not sure and don't wanna mess my phone up more. Also when you download the file do you have to have it in the same directory as adb.exe, so when you run the adb command it will get it from that directory?

Just tried doing this fastboot method, I typed in adb devices to see if the phone was recognised, didn't show up, I typed in fastboot erase cache and it still did so. I then pushed the latest TWRP recovery.img file on to the phone, it's now running the latest version of TWRP, but still won't let me flash anything, still keeps saying unable to open zip...

Have you made sure the insertcoin rom that you have downloaded is compatible with your device? Your device needs to be running the lastest firmware as all the roms are updated to 4.4.4
As for the recivery, the lastest is 2.8.1.0
Here's the link to the recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2717932

Make sure you have HTC drivers installed. if you don't, download HTC Sync and uninstall HTC Sync leaving the drivers in your computer than type in: adb devices.
Boot into fastboot and flash the recovery: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img ( or you can just directly drag the "recovery.img" into cmd and press enter)
Load the rom into a external SD card and insert the SD card into your device and flash the rom from there
Also, do you check MD5 after downloading the ROM????
My device was running 4.4.4 prior to this happening. I did download the latest recovery and push it to the phone, it did work, but upon trying to flash a new rom, it still says failed.
The phone is being detected in adb, when it's in recovery it says so, sideload it says so, just not fast boot?

Forgive me for beimg stupid but how do I check the md5?

http://www.guidingtech.com/9800/what-is-md5-checksum-how-to-verify-it/
Compare it with the MD5 given in the ROM topic
I had the same problem where I couldn't flash anything and it wouldn't mount my storage. I had to adb flash RUU though that only works for s-off users
So if the md5 was to be fine and matched up, what would you try next?
Thanks
Oli
Try unzipping the .zip file on your pc with 7zip and then re-zipping it and try to flash again. I've also had some .zip files that can't be read and it wouldn't even open on the pc itself(giving errors) until I unzipped it with 7zip and re-zipped it.

Also a fail to unzip will point towards a bad download.
Hi guys.
So I tried a new SD card, matched up the md5s, tried flashing a new recovery.img file (which worked, I'm running the latest twrp now), unzipped and rezipped using 7zip, yet when I try and flash it still fails! I've tried flashing on the phone and sideloading it, both still fail.
Sideload failure says:
"installing '/external_sd/sideload.zip'
checking for md5 file
skipping md5 check:no md5 found" - that's where it gives up...
Phone flash failure says exactly the same except another line after sayi ping "error flashing zip '/external_sd/ROM.zip"
I really don't know what to try anymore... I've tried so much and I just can't see anything working now
Thanks for your help so far guys

Did you try flashing from Internal memory instead of sdcard?
No I havent. How can I get the rom to the internal memory mate? the phone has no OS on, so it's stuck in recovery or bootloader, how can I transfer the file to internal rather than the sd card?
Twrp 2.8.1.0 has MTP working.

Since your device only boots into the bootloader menu, all you'll have to do is highlight the Recovery option using the Volume Down button and select it with the Power button. If you do not see the Recovery option, just select Bootloader with the Power button and it should pop up.
Once in TWRP, tap the Advanced option and select ADB Sideload.
From there, you will be given the option to Wipe Cache and Wipe Dalvik Cache partitions, so go ahead and do so by checking the boxes and Swipe to Start Sideload. After it starts, you will be ready to start your ROM flash.
With your device connected to your computer and your ROM file already on your desktop, you are ready to flash.
Kill ADB using the adb kill-server command, then restart it with adb usb.
Make sure your computer can identify your device with the adb devices command.
Flash your ROM with adb sideload Desktop/ROM.zip (be sure to change "desktop" to "downloads" or where ever your ROM is stored, and change "ROM.zip" to the name of your ROM file).
Sorry mate I didn't understand your previous post but I tried this method already, tried flashing Roms using sideload and they still fail, I've posted the error message in one of my previous posts if that helps?
