[Q] MP3 Tagging - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

Morning all
I'm getting a bit frustrated my the inability of the Samung music library to pick up and sort my mp3's into the correct albums
I have one album split into two albums, one with 6 tracks on, the other with 2 tracks on and then a number of individual songs with no artist name associated just a track number?
I've tried retagging them but can't really find a decent app for it... what do you guys use?

On my PC I use EasyTAG (Linux only I think) and MusicBrainz Picard (cross-platform). The latter has the ability to take a fingerprint of any music file, match it up against its online database, and download complete ID3 information. It's generally accurate and a huge time-saver.
I don't know of any retagging apps for Android, though.

try this...

if you're using windows, try this - it's free :
http://www.mp3tag.de/en/index.html
it's important to make sure that each file only has a single set of tags rather than multiple tags which confuse applications. mp3tag can do all sorts of things like set your tags based on the filename and delete old tags.

Cheers lads, I'll check em all out asap...
If I should only have one set of tags, should they be v1 or v2?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

pretty sure i've gone for v2 and my files are identified correctly ...

make sure the album title is exactly the same as a tiny differences (e.g. caps) might result in your situation.
mp3tag is great in recognizing and editing tags and i think it changes them all so you dun have to worry about v1/v2=)

+1. The only tagging software you'll ever need. Customisable to the nth degree, never let me down after 4 years.

Any ideas if i should use ID3v1 or ID3v2.3? From a quick Google search Android 2.3.3 seems to have an issue with reading id3 tags and correctly sorting mp3 files.

[Q] Is there a way to get Music to NOT scan directories?

I'm using the default music app. I just want to stop it from scanning and
adding directories from the microSD card that contain audio files that are
not music. (the system noises, content of phone calls, other data
that isn't intended for it to read). These are all in their own directories,
so filtering based on source of content should be fine.
If that's not possibly could someone suggest a music app that does support
where to read from?

you can make a new text file with nothing in it, but without the .txt (or watever) tag, rename it to .nomedia (AND NOTHING ELSE), and place it in the directories you do not want found. i am pretty sure this is the method as i dont have my phone with me
EDIT: confirmed this also works with images that you do not want to show up in your gallery... comes in handy ;D
ahh -- the .filename (so its invisable) and its a flag to the app to ignore that directory.
I follow.
Thanks

I always get folders of images that show up in the gallery app, full of cached map tiles. This should be helpful. Do you know if this works recursively? That is, if I put it in /system, would the app search deeper into /system/app or skip all directories below?
Either way, I really appreciate you mentioning this, I was curious about how the scanning was controlled.

sorry about the late post. i wouldve replied sooner, but my laptop broke down.
(using my schools internet xD)
but yes, the .nomedia file hides the main and sub directories
maybe clearing the gallary's cache from settings>applications>manage applications>gallery
Amazing, thank you!

Duplicate file app?

Hey what's up guys. I've searched the Market and messed around with different apps and file explorers with no luck. I want to clean up my duplicate files on this phone.
I've tried the Pro version of SDMaid. Something with that app and the ICS ROMS I've been on aren't playing well together. SDMaid is not recognizing the Pro version. I've tried a couple other duplicate file apps and the pain in the a#s part of it is is these apps will only let me delete one duplicate file at a time. I have something around 1500 duplicate files.
So basically I'm looking for an app or procedure so that I can delete duplicate files.
1500 is a little ridiculous.
TIA guys.
Plug it into PC so u can use a mouse lol sorry

If you send me a mail, i'm sure i can fix your sd maid issue, if not i can grant you a refund.
The problem is there is no smart automatic procedure for selecting which duplicate file to keep.
You can try by modified date, path length or random, but it will never be a 100% correct.
Imagine the case of a two mp3 files, both duplicates (maybe with a different name, but same content).
One in a directory called "Single X - Artist Y" and one in a directory called "Best of Artist Y".
How can a computer know, which one to keep, or if none should be deleted, although they are duplicates.
Yeah well, we could use one of the methods and just be okay, as one copy will always be left.
But this will almost certainly lead to lots of users going "OMG can't find my files", when the remaining copy is not where they exspect it to be.

Pm sent. Not concerned about a refund. From the great info you provided it really doesn't sound like the issue is app related.
Thanks for the useful info and look forward to hearing back from ya.

music sorting issues

so I formatted my SD card and synced all my music to it again on my GS3. Most of the songs are in the right places, but several of them still come up under "unknown artist," which ruins albums. I tried editing the info on my computer, to no avail on some songs. Kies is not any good either. What is a good way to get my music onto my SD card in my GS3 exactly as the songs are sorted in iTunes?

That information is read from the ID3 tags. There are a bunch of Windows programs available that can write tags for audio files. My personal favorite is Tag&Rename. Search it in Google (can't post links). It's not freeware, but I believe the free version is fully functional.
have u tried using something like this, very cool i might add.

Uhm. Google Music just censored my song.

Hey guys... I'm just curious about, why Google Music censored my music?!
I bought Marvin's Room from Drake, for example, on Musicload (a German site for legal music download, powered by T-Mobile) uncensored.
Today I decided to upload my music into Google play for easy access...
Just tuned into it and it's censored now... no dirty words... is it normal that Google Music do this?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Yup, another one affected, states "clean" in the name now... this is... ??

Lol.. I have thousands of songs in Google music, none of which are censored.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
just tested it out, it isn't altering my explicit lyrics mp3s
It's probably this 'match' feature which, rather than you having to upload your copy, adds songs from Google's server to your Google Music user space. It's probably taken the clean version instead of the explicit one. Try putting 'Explicit version' on your and see what happens as both are available on Google Music
The one was called explicit version... Confusing... I'm going to delete them if it's possible... I rather put them on my sdcard than fighting for dirty words

This is ridiculous haha. I'd noticed it with a few songs having the odd word censored or changed, which I thought was annoying but tolerable.
Then I just tried to listen to Benoit & Sergio - Walk & Talk. All of the lyrics have been replaced with a humming, presumably because it's drug references.
Who knew Google were so puritan?
I can live with that I just don't upload dirty songs
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Where do you live? I believe Google is testing the Match service in Europe. Check your labs settings on desktop version of Google music as well. I would figure it would default to clean versions and a setting to switch to explicit

hmm, havnt noticed that, must not be paying attention enough
You just shouldn't listen to explicit music you bad boy, google is doing a good thing here

so i just noticed a few of my songs have this issue so i emailed google and this is what they told me:
Hi there,
I understand that some of your music is not being matched correctly by our scan and match service. In order to fix this, please go to your library on a browser and right-click on the song(s) that are experiencing this issue. Please then select "Fix incorrect match."
If your Music Manager is running, the actual file will be uploaded within 24 hrs. If after that time period, you're still experiencing this issue, please let me know.
Best Regards,
John

and it worked.....so i hope this helps others.
Is there an option in music manager to not scan and match stuff? I have 0 desire for this to touch my music...already invested the time for a full upload. Scared to turn the program on and have it mess up stuff now. I read that it has issues matching various artist albums too, and I have some of mine configured in non standard ways that I'm guessing it would butcher (or ignore, who knows, that's the scary part!)

I also have the problem. I told them that fixing individual tracks in a 20,000 song collection is clearly not a valid or palatable solution. They had no other recourse, nor would they acknowledge this as a problem (typical Google).
I'm currently on the phone with them asking how I can submit a bug report, for surely this is a bug with how their matching is working (or not working, as the case may be).
The rep had no suggestion other than to email him with the problem specifics and his word that he would pass the bug report onto the germane team.
Unfortunately, until Google fixes this issue, Google Music is unusable for me.
@johnchad14:
No, there is no way to 'turn off' the matching feature, according to the rep I just spoke with. The good news is it won't touch your original tracks, just **** up the version they make available in their cloud. Surprisingly, it handled my compilation albums quite well.
Yeah, it *was* my online backup for music. As I don't know what they've done with the tracks now, I can't trust it as that anymore. Oh well. Not having issues with the whole thing other than worrying about the fidelity of my online collection there. Just been using my local backup drive like I used to to ensure music meltdown does not occur. Oh well!
Weird. I have like 17 gigs of music uploaded to Google music and its never edited. I'd be pissed off of they did that but I really don't think they have that right.
But... It is on Google servers.

Yet another problem Google causes, and then is oblivious to it. Same fiasco when they combined navigation volume with media volume. Utter incompetence. F*** you Google for ruining my music and telling me I have to fix thousands of tracks individually because you have a service that doesn't work.

[Q] Music Coverart and Music Apps in zooper

I'm having trouble displaying the cover art in zooper with multiple widget/themes downloaded from mycolorscreen. I also tried editing it myself and still only get the grey folder icon.
The widgets also dont detect anything other than whatever is playing on google music even though I have pandora in my media list in mediautilities. So even if I start pandora, the widget will only show the information that was playing on google music before I closed it.
I'm running a custom rom; Slimkat 9.0, android 4.4
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I really don't know if this will help or not, as I'm pretty new myself to theming, but in my layout I have a bitmap for album art. In the advanced parameters for it I have the following:
Code:
[*b]#TMU_COVERART#[*/b]
Take out the *s in the code above.
I know the bold tags are needed or else it won't work (at least for me anyway). Do you have Media Utilities installed, too? It won't work without that.

Nothing guys?
Wrong thread
I'm using Stellio music player and so far, the only thing not working is the coverart function in zooper. I think it's something about the album art folders, but I'm not sure.
If somebody has a similar problem (and the solution) please share it
