Problem with flashing and root - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my HTC Droid Incredible with Android 2.2 using unrevoked, but did not flash a new rom. Everything worked fine. My SD card crapped out a couple of days ago, so that it becomes corrupt every time the phone reboots. I've since tried to flash skyraider 4.0 and others, but to no avail. I tried to factory reset all of the data on my phone, but it just reboots with all of my information in tact.
Does anyone have any idea what's wrong or what the hell I should do to fix it?

Well, I have no idea what's wrong, but try mounting the SD card to PC from in recovery and see if that lets you flash

Make sure sd is formatted FAT32

and if reformatting does not work, swap out sd cards and you should be good as new.

Strange issues!!
I’m in need of some help!! I have a droid inc that was rooted for many months with no issues. I wanted to change the boot animation. To do this I was instructed to get a root explorer which from the market. I need to move the “bootanimation” file from the sd to the “system/media” folder. After doing this the device lost connection to many of the apps. They no longer showed as being installed on the device. I could no longer “install or uninstall” anything. When trying to restore apps from titanium backup I needed to reinstall them because the had lines through them as thought they were not installed, but the apps get stuck on “installing” I tried formatting the card and recopying the data back to it but that didn’t help, so I tried to wipe the device. Doing this I was able to re download titanium backup but still the same problem with the apps getting stuck on install. Finally I unrooted the device back to a stock rom at jonsuh.com/2011/01/unroot-your-droid-incredible/[/url] I now have installed the drivers and ran the unrevoked3 rom but I get hung up on the “installing unrevoked3 service” Please help me to get my dinc back to a working order where I can restore my titanium backup files.

[Q] Rom manager restore problem, please help :(

Was using my dad's Desire (I have my own), and thought I would do him a favour by rooting it, so he could backup. I rooted using unrevoked 3.21, and did a backup using ROM Manager. I've heard this is a bad idea, but I never had a problem with my Desire using ROM Manager, and an older version of unrevoked.
Anyway, after the backup, I tried to restart, and it got caught in a boot loop, never getting past the pink circle. (My dad has a t-mobile, HBOOT 0.75, have since upgraded to 0.93 with android 2.2)
My old backup Roms that I did for my desire work fine on his phone, so I have been able to do the above, but I really wanna get his old system back.
I've wiped the cache, done a full wipe, re-rooted, loaded the backup from Rom Manager, and from recovery, and nothing seems to work. The best I can get is looping from the splash screen, but another variation is getting stuck on the pink arrow circle.
So, what is the deal with unrevoked and ROM Manager not working together, when they used to be fine with old versions? Do I have to now backup by recovery alone? But more importantly, is there any way to get my dad's backup back, or is it gone forever?
Please help,
I'm sorry I can't help but here is an advice, never ever use Rom manager. Gives me lots of problems and scared me badly so many times in recovery. Maybe the plain all recovery methods in the clockworkmod would do fine although it has never worked for me. When I use it I still go into boot loops. Try not to use it but maybe that's just for me. Maybe you could try to get the Rom your dad previously used, flash it and on your SD card, there is a folder called clockworkmod, in it there is a folder named backup. From there maybe you could recover your data. I am not sure how but there is always a possibility. Hope that helps!
Thanks for the reply. I've given the phone back to my dad now. He wasn't best pleased about the wipe, but I was able to pull out his contacts from the data.img, which was the most important thing.

[Q] I think I finally hosed my phone. Help

So I was running Synergy + God Mode and today my phone decided to reboot itself. Well not it keeps locking up at the htc EVO 4G white screen or sometimes will get as far as the Synergy splash screen but will just loop.
So to back up a bit I previously had moved the Dalvik cache to the sd card as well as most all apps. This has been running fine for weeks.
I was able to get it to boot once after I removed the sd card but now it won't even with that. I tried wiping the phone from recovery and still nothing.
Any ideas? this is annoying. I've never run into an issue this bad before. I've always been able to repair either with a nandroid backup or just a wipe.
I tried restoring a nandroid backup and it just sat there with the lines getting longer and longer 1 dot at a time. Actually filled the whole screen and never actually finished.
Try a RRU

I would try an RUU.exe
Which HBOOT do you have? If you can get to HBOOT, then you should be able to go back to stock and solve most problems
I'm running the 0.76.200 HBOOT.
I will probably end up having to go back to stock but would like to keep that as a last resort.
I think I narrowed down my problem. Anytime I go into recovery and try and wipe anything that has to do with the ext3 partition it either locks up or for instance I'm now trying to repair the ext3 partition and it just keeps adding dots. Just keeps working and seems to get nowhere.
I can still access everything else on the SD card just errors of sorts when dealing with the ext partition.
well got it working after RUU but i still wish I knew what caused it in the first place

Please help? Force closes everywhere, including CWM Recovery

Hi, can anyone help?
I am running the most recent inc-deck ROM, with incredikernel. Yesterday I updated google maps from the market, and today, for the first time in months of using inc-deck, for the first time ever since having rooted my phone months ago, I am having force closes of most apps I try to open.
ROM manager force closes also, so I can't restore the nandroid I have on my SD card from there. I try to boot into Clockworkmod recovery, but all I can get into is the stock "white screen" recovery, not the black and orange clockwork recovery screen.
Is there a way I can flash a nandroid manually, without having to go through clockworkmod? Or does anyone have any other idea of how I can get my phone functional again?
Thank you in advance-
Try getting 4Ext recovery from the market if it is available for your phone. Flash it to recovery and restore your nandroid.

Reflash cw recovery thru hboot and then see if it works. My only other thought would be messed up or bad sdcard. Try reformating it fat32, or try a different sd.
so it's fixed now, and in case this helps anyone:
i was trying to install cwm recovery directly on the root of my sdcard by attaching the phone via usb to my computer, and while i was looking around my folders i noticed that "whatsapp" was suddenly working on my phone, whereas when it was malfunctioning i kept getting notifications that whatsapp could not access old messages. so this made me wonder whether rom manager was working. i opened it, and indeed it was working. from there i fixed permissions, and this seems to have fixed the problem.
i don't know why attaching the phone to the computer would have let things work enough for me to get into rom manager, but i'm just grateful to have my phone back.

[Q] Evo vibrates 5 times on boot, only hboot accessible

A few days ago while flashing a new rom, my Evo quit booting. I wouldn't consider myself a n00b, but I'm out of ideas. Here is what I have done:
* used unrevoked3 and unrevoked-forever to obtain root and s-off at least a year ago
* used CM7.1 stable as my daily driver
* used stock to update radios around the time CM7.1 went to stable
* flashed deck's ICS preview4 to test an app on 4.0, after doing a nandroid and wiping in cwm 5.0.22 (I think that was the version)
* the phone refused to boot, vibrating 5 times and flashing the green notification light
* going into hboot, s-on is back somehow
* recovery could only be reached if the usb was plugged in
* recovery could not mount the sdcard, so no nandroid restore
* tried several stock PC36IMG.zip until 4.24.651.1 finally flashed in hboot
* the phone still won't boot, either vibrating 5 times or showing the red ! triangle
* the 4.24.651.1 RUU tells me my battery is < 30% even though I let my phone charge all night
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I don't really want to pay $450 for a new Evo. Thanks in advance.

I had this happen to me a little less than a month ago and it ruined my weekend. I fortunately have a repair plan with Sprint as a "just incase" practice, so I just flashed stock and removed root, then brought in my phone claiming it just "restarted" and the software crashed, breaking my USB and SD card controller. The people at Sprint thought it was just "lint in my MicroUSB port," I laugh and told them to turn it on and they looked at my with a puzzled "wtf did you do to it!?" look.
What caused my problem was my SD card was full when I attempted to backup my ROM. This caused CWM fail at a backup and bricked my phone. Is this what happened to you by any chance?
I never did "fix" my phone's usb/SD management issue, but was able to temporarily boot it, but was plagued with random restarts. I'd like to throw in some links but I'm pinched for time seeing as I need to leave for work. (Search XDA) There was a Android 2.2 image that was I able to flash in the bootloader that let boot fully. But it will erase all traces of root. - Before you try and do anything else, research into if there is ANYTHING you can do with adb over WiFi, because that was the one thing that I didn't try. What I'm saying is to do a lot of reading before you start flashing anything, plan out your attack before you execute it. Because I ended up digging myself a deep hole by just randomly flashing images.
Wish you luck man, sorry I wasn't of much help.

Hboot finds the renamed CM7.1 zip and checks it, but does not offer to flash it. I assume this is because s-on is back. Also, I mentioned that RUU is claiming my battery is too low to flash.

My sdcard has over 4gb available space. I flashed stock 2.3 in the bootloader but it still refuses to boot (as mentioned in the original post). As far as I know, you need to be able to boot to use adb. The only images I have tried to flash are stock images and CM7.1.
This is starting to look bleak...

Sorry, my previous post was in a rush. (As is this one, lol)
Really? So your phone just screwed up out of no where while flashing the ICS alpha4 rom? Were you using CWM? Because if so, I'm switching to Amon RA asap.
Moving on, I know how you're feeling right now. But, I still have hope.
As previously stated, after ruining my EVO I was able to flash a PC36IMG.zip that allowed me to boot my EVO. I had to do some serious digging, but I found the thread I used with the ROM that worked http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884060.
None of the old Megaupload links work, but this filesonic one does. Download it and flash it in your bootloader. Its signed, it should work. Try to flash it twice if anything. If it still doesn't work, try one of the newer ROMs. I'm only guessing that's the one that worked for me.
The only problem is that I don't think that's a 2.3 ROM, and we need a 2.2 ROM. Because the only root method that doesn't use a USB/SD Card is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701004 If you can get
If you can get your EVO rooted again with S-Off, follow this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243 (Original) and you might be home free. But as of now, your goal is to find a stock 2.2 PC36IMG. Hopefully someone else can help here.
I sadly have to get to bed. Just got off work and I need to get some rest, another long day tomorrow. Good luck! I'll be back here next chance I get.
Same thing here
I'm having the exact same issue - flashed ICS alpha 4, now I can't mount my SD card. I don't have the red triangle of death, but I am getting the 5 vibrations on trying to boot - can get to hboot, and was able to *almost* get the SD card to mount using this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695243
but that only yielded ICS "preparing SD card" and "checking SD card for errors" indefinitely. I backed up and formatted my SD card, and this at least let me browse the empty sd card in Clockwork Recovery - I am in the process of copying my cwm backups back to the sd card in the hopes of being able to restore them from cwm. I'll keep you posted on what happens, and will most likely try to RUU when I get home from work. Puzzling that my s turned back on again as well, it's been off for well over a year...

Ok, so after all that, I was able to restore my backup from within recovery, copy all of my data back to the sd card, and now I'm back in business...mostly. I still get the 5 vibrations on boot *unless* i'm plugged into the computer, and even then it's not a sure thing (usually takes 3 or 4 tries to get it to boot). At least I have a functioning phone again. Next step - RUU and factory reset, and see what happens. Again, I'll post back with my results. Hope this helps someone

Bootloop

So my Desire is bootlooping since last night :s tried flashing multiple roms, it goes to boot animation and stays there. also tried formatting my 32gb card and re partitioning and everything, still no luck. The only thing that works are nandroid backups, but even those got wiped when I formated the sd card. Any suggestions guys? :crying: Recovery is 4ext 1.0.0.5 RC9
EDIT: Flashed Rooted Stock GB and it worked .... but other ROMs refuse to boot, and even in the stock ROM it says I have low storage space even though I just booted...
EDIT 2: So I think I found the problem, my data partition is full, although I've performed several wipes :\ does anyone know anything that may have caused this? it's very odd and although there are workarounds like flashing another hboot, I wish I didn't have to lose that much space on my phone.

try a different sdcard because not so long ago i was using an 8gb sandisk sdcard and i started getting bootloops and i too reflashed roms, re partitioned my sdcard but nothing, still bootloops, rom freezing/restarting etc then i tried another sdcard, flashed the same download of the rom and it worked fine after that. so maybe ur sdcard got corrupt some how.
There may be some hidden files left over on your SD card.
Connect it to a PC, enable to view hidden files and see if anything is left out.

I have tried another card, the result is the same, the partition I cant wipe is internal. Flashed cm7 hboot and it boots and works normally, has it expands the data partition. Is there anything I can do to format the data partition? I've tried anything, and flashing the cm7 hboot is but a workaround and limits the ROM I can flash to my phone :\
