I've been testing GB ROMs for a while now and ran into the same problem/phenomenon on each of them: my clock loses ~70s/day. The stock Froyo Sense ROM has ~3s/day. Although Clocksync takes care of that either way, the question is still the same: why the hell would my phone do that on Gingerbread? It's obviously not a hardware problem, and it's irritating (at least for me - yes, i'm irritated by such things ). I already tried playing around with different CPU governors, but that didn't help either and just used more battery.
Soo... am i alone with this or has anyone else seen the same behaviour? Or even better, can anyone tell me what causes ist?
never noticed it myself - I have mine set on automatic time with network so I guess that may take care of it too?
Nope, tried that one, too. It doesn't seem to have any discernible effect, but i had to disable "time from network" on my G1 because the time the network sent was off about 5 minutes. Apparently my phones don't want me to have the correct time.
heh
I had a problem once where my phone thought I was in Boston, US, which made my alarm go off at about 11am (scheduled for 6am)
My Desire HD is on Gingerbread and it gets late by about 90 seconds a day. Haven't found a solution but to use ClockSync to sync every 12 hours
if you are connected to a 3G connection all the time this didn`t happen, but if dont you will have this problem (i notice it because a friend havent got internet plan and have this problem and i dont have this problem (whit the same ginger ROM)
I disabled network time sync because the network time is off by about 3 minutes.
it is a common problem on gingerbread, dont remember if only with Sense.
however no fix was done, mainly cause only few experience it.
workaroud : toggle network syncing every once in a while ;P

Not if the network time is off by a couple of minutes like it has been mentioned is the case at some places.
And this really shouldn't be a problem, and i've not experiences it(or at least i haven't noticed) on my AOSP rom.
maybe they aren't fully compatiblie with GinderBread or you dont have a bit ram?

Hi All,
I have the Modaco 2.2 rom installed, however when someone txt's me, it is always 4 hours behind the actual time. Ive tested this by texting myself @ say 8pm, and the received message will be time stamped at 4pm when its mere seconds apart...does anyone have any ideas on what the issue could be?
Thanks!
actually i have a similar prob too but in my case the person replying to me always seems to do it before my time...even though it me who had messaged first...BUT I HAVE THE OFFICIAL ROM..NOT STOCK!
Might be a bug (not sure if its HTC and/or android as I cant test) but do both of you happen to live in an area where you have to manually set the Daylight saving time or use some "odd" timezone indication set by your provider ?
Yes i have to set it according to the srvice provider...but i can change it as well..any solutions??
Just letting you guys know, you're not alone. I get this issue, too. Happened both on stock 1.xxx and now mcr 2.2
Was it just those roms that had that kinda behavior, and when you switched it was fine again? Im wondering if its juts a wacky rom or something wrong w. the phones hardware.
It's a network issue. At least for me it was.
I applied the fix from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559731
and it worked for me! I was 4 hours behind too. It's great having my texts actually thread correctly.
Hope it works for you!
I have been on Ginger Villain 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 1.4 and i have had this problem.
When the wifi is connected, i would say once every five minutes it disconects and re-connects again. Even though this process takes a few seconds, it is very annoying when im on skype as it terminates the call.
I have set the wifi sleep policy to never. I have never had this problem on stock, modaco, and Robo HD roms.
One thing to note, i originally thought this was a gingerbread 2.3 problem. Too see if was true, i flashed the new modaco 2.3 rom and it was fine. I was using skype and other apps for over an hour and it did not disconnect.
So why is this happening in ginger villain?
One thing to note.
I live in a flat and therefore the wifi signal has always been quite low BUT it has always connected without any problems.
Could it be that GV 2.3 decreases wifi signal strength?
I have flashed the latest radio and ril which seems to have fixed it.
But now I am getting graphical issues as the screen is flashing and acting very weird on certain apps.
Anyone got any ideas?
I'm currently on 1.3 GV and have the same issue with the Wifi, about to try a different Kernel to see if it helps.
I've also noticed a decreased signal, I can be standing right next to my router and not receiving absolute full signal... Think it may be a ROM issue?
You have to remember these ROMs ain't perfect and each one seems to have it's flaws, but the dev's are getting there!
What kernel will you try?
Strange. I have no problem with wi-fi. Signal as well as on the stock rom. In the router logs no disconnects.
Kernel: 1.6 HAVS 1113Mhz + BFS from Villain setup
Radio: 32.44.00.32H_5.09.05.30_2
It is very strange, I have tried different radio's but still can't fix it.
Under normal internet use, it is quite difficult to tell that the connection has dis connected and reconnected as it only takes a few.seconds.
When using Skype or Google talk, you can tell and its very annoying.

Did you manage to fix this with a different kernel?
I am so glad I have finally found someone with the same issue as me! I have a relatively weak wifi signal (distance) from my hub to my room where I use my desire. On apps like youtube or bbc iplayer, it would suddenly turn off wifi and then reconnect all of a sudden. It meant watching anything with these apps is a nightmare. And I have always had it set to wifi sleep - never. I have never had this problem with any other ROM and I have tried loads. I originally put it down to my already tempermental internet, but I have now ruled this out. This is specifically a GV ROM issue.
GV 1.0 - 1.4 all had the same issue. Then, yesterday much to my surprise I saw in the 1.5 change log that one of the changes was that 1.5 "should fix the wifi sleep bug".
Last night, I tried iPlayer as usual, but I believe the problem still persists. I now don't know what to do. I will try resetting the wifi hub to defaults and so on, but I really don't think it will make a difference. I could try flashing a new kernal, but again I don't see how it would make a difference. Then I thought maybe a new radio, but I don't see the need. I'm using the latest official desire radio, and it works flawlessly on everything else.
So, I'm out of ideas, and my patience is slowly dying. I love the ROM for all its worth. It works perfectly, except for this. But for me, stable wifi is a deal breaker. I might need to try something else like amethyst.
Yes, sounds exactly like my problem. There Is a problem with Ginger villain as it works fine on other Roms.
I have tried so many different kernel's, radios and ril's but to no luck.
The only last solution I can think of other than to change rom is to try the modaco kernel. But the problem with that is, its not available seperately so we need someone to extract it from the rom.
I've got a strange issue with my HTC Desire and GV 2.5 :
at home, it doesn't even detect my Wifi (others devices do, of course), while at work it works perfectly.
The security is the same (WPA2/AES) between work and home, so I don't see any explanation... do you think it can be caused by the channel used ?
Frederic
I posted this in NilsP's Business GingerSense thread, but don't think it's a ROM issue, more of a Google Talk issue. Running the 2.0 version of that ROM.
The issue is where Google Talk shows all your contacts as Offline after a period of say five to ten minutes, maybe shorter than that. I'll be messaging someone, and after a few minutes when they haven't responded, I'll wake my phone and open GT. All the contacts are Offline. A simple sign out/sign in fixes that, and the usual contacts show Online or Away.I've noticed this all week, so I'm thinking it's a GT issue, but I've never had it happen before.
Don't want to have to sign out/in every time I want to use it. Cleared GT cache, fix permissions, multiple wipes of data/system/cache/boot/dalvik/user data before each ROM install, and haven't had this before now.
Thoughts?
EDIT: After playing, it happens when switching from 3G to WiFi and vice versa, so maybe it is a ROM thing...?
i'm having the same issue. noticed after my gingerbread OTA update from verizon.
Droid 2.
It seems to happen a few minutes after logging on.
I also have that issue with Gtalk. After some time all contacts appear to be offline, but only when I'm on data connection and not on wifi.
There is still no solution for this?
Cheers!

Me too. Anyone was able to do something?
Well I've since moved on, and haven't noticed it on other ROMs. Right now I just tested toggling Wifi on and off, and the contacts would appear offline, then come online once 3g or wifi connected.
I'm thinking in my case, it was that version of the ROM I was running at the time.

Just a thought, check any task killers / managers and make sure talk is unchecked. I had the same problem a long time ago and ATK was the culprit. Haven't had the issue since and I have used almost every Rom possible at one point or another

True. Right after I rooted over a year ago, I had an issue with the alarm clock not going off intermittantly, and coincidentally I was using ATK at the time. After reading that ATK could be the issue, uninstalling it fixed the issue. Since then, I don't actively kill tasks, but I do have System Panel installed just in case.
I'm running Stock+ v2.6, and since moving on from v2.0 of NilsP's ROM where I had the initial issue, I haven't noticed/had the problem.

Hi,
Me and the other user are I9000 users. No task killers. We're trying to figure out if its a stock / custom ROM issue (since we're both using the same ROM), or some app forcing GTalk to sign out, or even a network problem (we both use the same mobile operator).
Thank you both for your input.
If you're on a stock ROM (you're both rooted right?), back up your ROM and flash another just to see if it happens in something different.

Yes, we are.
The thing is that it seems to me that it happened only after XXVJR (meaning it happened to me in XXJVS and XXJVT, and now we're already at XWJVU, all these being Samsungs "leaks"), and I have a friend with XXJVS that works just fine.
I even tried flashing a stock ROM, to see if it happens again. Testing that one now.
Thanks for your advice.
Same problem here.
Although I have not tried it with stock non rooted phone...
I'm having the same problem on a stock rooted Motorola Photon. Very annoying to have to sign out and back in to see who's online. Hopefully someone comes to the rescue with a solution.
Hi,
The only thing I could find is that the problem is, indeed, NOT in the custom ROM's. It's google's problem.
The only way I could get by was with an alternative IM. And, for me, the better is Trillian (taking battery, performance, etc. in consideration.)
I updated my software which included an updated gtalk with video..so far so good.

I am having this issue too. I have had it since the beginning, when I had the preinstalled stock rom, I had it with all the other stock roms I flashed, I had it with all the versions of Talk I tried (those which supported video calls), I had it with all the other customs roms I tried (Simplicity, CyanogenMod, MIUI). I never used any task killer. For these reasons I am strongly convinced this is a Google Talk related bug.
Some more details about the problem:
after a few minutes after having logged in, contacts are shown offline on Android while they appear online on the desktop client;
despite their offline status I still receive messages from them and as soon as I answer only that contact appears online while the others keep being shown offline;
signing out and back in fixes the problem temporarily, but it happens again after a few minutes.
What surprises me is how come very few people seem noticing it or being annoyed by it? How come a huge bug like this has been out for so long and Google hasn't fixed it yet? All the posts I have seen reporting this problem on Google Talk Help Forum have been ignored.
Exact same problem with my I9100, Gtalk with video. Very annoying.
I have the SGS i777 (Samsung Galaxy S2 on AT&T), and just recently (since late February) started experiencing the same issue. When on WiFi, it doesn't appear to be an issue, only when not on WiFi, particularly if I have just recently turned off WiFi.
Other "friends" show me as "Away", so I am connected.
This is bone stock 2.3.6 Samsung official ROM (never rooted UCKK6).
I tried crawling a bit through the logs (aLogCat output), filtering for "[Tt]alk", but I can't make enough heads or tails about where the failure might be (not being an actual developer), other than lots of messages get created. I'll see if I can't figure something more useful out about it.
A hard reset with no apps installed has the same problem. Though I've noticed that the problem appears to get "worse" as the phone "ages" - namely, hard reset fixes the problem, but it slowly (over days) gets worse and worse.
Update: I have not noticed this issue at all since getting the official Samsung/AT&T ICS build (IML74K.CLE5).
Google Talk failing for toooo loooong
Hi there,
I'm a cyanogen 7.1 (stable) android user, and I just want to join myself to every other person who's affected by this issue.
I'll leave here some links to other places discussion exactly the same issue:
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?can=2&start=0&num=100&q=gtalk%20offline&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars&groupby=&sort=&id=24242
You may check this thread: groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/forum/#!topic/chat/6m0YqHoiIDg
Until now, I wasn't also able to find any clue to what the cause may be.
Starting to suspect that's something on Google's side, not android/rom itself.
Maybe something to do with our google accounts' settings?
Are there any news about this issue? I'm having the same problem.
my wifi seems to bug the hell out of me with the cm7 rom. it wont send me data even tho its connected as shown by menu and i can ping google just not surf. anyone else in this position before i reflash the rom

I had the same thing happen. On first boot, wifi would work perfectly until I disconnected and tried reconnecting again, it would connect but nothing would happen.
You'll also notice that when this happens, the wifi icon and signal strength icon will no longer change its colour. For some reason it only happened the first day I installed CM7, but after multiple reboots, installation of some apps, everything works fine now.
edit: I also changed my governor to SMARTASS2, (122MHz min, 806Mhz max), but I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

I saw your thread about yours freezing at 806Mhz.. the only thing I can think of is maybe you have a different CPU revision that doesn't overclock too well.. or maybe different RAM which also doesn't allow for higher overclocking.
Got to wipe over this until its finished. cant believe im the only one.
Am I the only one with the WiFi problem.
no mate i have them too! not just wifi but mobile data also it says its on but does nothing and also the colour doesnt change sometimes, same for overclock anything past 600 freezes up.
We should port this conversation over to development (Cyanogenmod 7 thread) - since it appears to be an issue specific to that ROM(?)
I'm having the same issue - running Alquez Cyanogenmod 7 (beta 1)
It's working great. Running smartass2 min 122 max 806 with no problems...
...except that either wifi AND mobile data can theoretically be connected, yet the browser and other programs/syncing can't connect to the internet.
i cant post in development i think i need at least 10 posts lol..
i know its silly but the rules must be obeyed. i just unistalled awaiting the fix.
I tried everything i know, but no joy.

Same problem with me as regarding posting in development..
And same problem with internet connection switching on and off without warning on cm7. was totally chuffed i got it untill this happened. Both the cell signal and the wifi/3g would go grey instead of green when connected..
Got frustrated, changed to tmous ROM, and now hae a different problem; need new radio, 3g not working!
Hopefully cm7 gets solved soon...although apart from my own issue with radio reflash(i think thats the problem?) I really like TMOUS...it is very sharp, and a lot smoother than the ported cm7, in my opinion..
Anyone find a solution, post it!!! Thanks..
Here s one thing i "think" helps...trial and error, as usual...
1; Keep wifi turned off, only keep 3g connection on.
2; Install 3g watchdog (I got Pro version) . This is an app that monitors the 3g connection, and i am inclined to believe may help keep it active. Now, mine is greatly improved with connection, thanks to these factors. Oh, and a few reflashes and a few reboots...
Hope it helps? It has helped me...
im trying for a week now to get around an issue that is costing me my nerves and renders my phone useless, especially on travel without roaming and data-plan. after screenoff my nexus kills the wifi connection, after some time though, 30 minutes, 1 hour, it seems to change. my company uses skype as the primary means to communitate and i'm just cut off, won't receive important mails, messages, whatever.
when i switch my phone back on wifi starts up again, if im quick enough the settings reveal "avoided poor internet connection" in the hotspots status. so basically it looses the signal for a moment and is not able to connect back on its own. i read 4.0.1 had a setting to circumvent that but since 4.0.2 it's gone. of course keep-alive-during-sleep is checked to "always" in the settings and i tried just about anything, changing basebands, factory resets, cache wipe, etc. nothing helped. the weirdest thing i that the battery stats to not reflect it, the blue wifi line is uninterrupted all the way.
i searched and found dozens of people complaining about this but no solution anywhere. they switched phones and had the same problems still. from little fragments i collected it seems that samsung devices had this issue before, cm7 supposedly fixed a hardware driver that had issues with certain wifi devices on certain frequencies.
im on AOKP b27 now (powersaver on or off with setting to untouched or "leave on" made no difference), leankernel, xxkl1 baseband. today i went back to stock 4.0.2 to see if that does something. still, has anyone here similar problems and maybe even solutions? what about the cyanogens "nexus one sleep fix" i read about, anyone can provide links or informations?
Did you try settings - wifi - menu - advanced - keep wifi on during sleep - always
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Try changing that setting. I know 2.x defaulted to turn wifi off during sleep but I thought they changed that in ICS. Either way that sounds like the problem.
its not that setting, it's the first thing i checked. it's set to "always" and it should never kill wifi in theory. from what i have read by now it seems more of a wider problem, a software or hardware related issue affecting all nexus devices. most people don't know about it since it only fails for certain routers having certain settings (which other phones digest without problems though). i also never knew it until i had to stay one month in a place with a wifi-hotspot my phone doesn't like. my gf's s2 has no problems at all, neither have our laptops.
here on xda people have switched their devices because of that problem, got new ones and the problem persisted. i have installed roms, kernels, stock-images, basebands, nothing helped and i am sure the problem won't go away if i exchange the device. i knew i'd probably not gain much by asking again, threads like this can be found here, on rootzwiki, google, etc., but i was hoping to gather a little more knowledge. to read about cm7's patch for a similar issue on the nexus one gave me hope that something must be out there ...
btw, stock ICS seems to have the best reception by now, it stays connected for hours. but once it looses it, it won't re-connect aswell. my experiences are worse with AOKP. and it sucks because i love that rom so much. i guess when i'm home again it wont bother me since my own wifi is okay - but man, here, in another country it really hits me.
i had the same problem, seems like the connection would drop when the wifi signal is weak regardless of what settings you choose. i saw this problem on 4.01 and 4.02 stock, and apex rom. i had to switch to a router that could broadcast a stronger signal. i would get about 80-90 dbm with the old router and the new gone give 60-70 dbm. it seemed to have fixed the problem, i havent seen my gnex drop the wifi since i got the new router a few weeks ago.
Ive heard some people have a bug with wifi sleep policy setting not working. But mine seems to actually work. Set to "never" is the best choice and after hours of screen off my wifi is still connected.
Maybe try that setting a few times to kill the bug.
“never"should actually kill wifi immediately after screen off I think. If it doesn't that would be just another bug. I read somewhere that for some people setting it to never resolved the issue but i tried pretty much every setting by now, nothing worked out though. I became so desperate I installed wifi monitor apps that reset wifi after they figure it got dropped, but not even these patches could revive it in some occasions. The only thing that works for sure is switching on the screen every now and then.
It's a wifi sleep policy. So never = never sleep.
Weird, mine says "keep wifi alive during sleep": always, when plugged in, never. our I miss something and there's another setting I haven't tried yet.

How do you get that? It says "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep", which implies "never" would always keep the Wi-Fi off during sleep.
