Few questions?? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm rooted using unrevoked and I'm currently running the ultimate Droid rom.
First question is I'm using a ntelos cdma desire and my radio signal sucks. Its usually one or two bars in my house, etc. Just wondering if I should flash a radio.
Secondly I can't send or receive picture messages. Its like when I get one it wont download and the ones I send get stuck and never really send.

If you need to flash the latest radio then flash it. About MMS, you could be missing some settings or it could be something else. If nothing improves then ring your carrier up. They will do some tests.

I just heard never to flash an ntelos radio or whatever. Do not know if this is true or not. Was wondering where do i get the radio zips at??

[Q] No Calls/Texts

Hi I have a Desire, it has been in for repair because despite showing it has a signal, i cant recieve texts or calls, HTC said there was no fault, but T Mobile sent me a new phone the next day. So now i have a spare Desire, that I would like to try and fix. Any ideas as to what controls the signal? Is it the Radio, the Rom or the Kernel. I am happy to try any of these, I have tried different Roms, so I am guessing its not that.
It has the following.....
Android 2.2.1
Baseband 32.54.0032U_5.14.05.17
Software 1.84.661.1
Try updating the radio its a .zip update that has a new radio rom in it.
Its the same way you update the phones rom

I have flashed the latest Radio, and the phone is still the same, its very strange.
Sometimes I can make calls on it, but just seems that it wont recieve call, even with bars on the signal meter.
Any other ideas fellow flashers !!!

Signal Lost

sup guys
hope you can help me, ive got a serious problem with my desire. I've already flashed multiple roms, radios and RIL's. Atm im on 2.2 villain ginger with the newest radio and the right RIL for that radio download from the radio and RIL thread in this forum.
I get a Signal and internet, but as soon as i try using it by entering market or sending a sms or whatever, the signal breaks. First I lose internet and signal goes down to 1 or 2 points, then it cut offs entirely.
Sometimes I can use it 1 or 2 minutes, sometimes I can even send SMS, but in the end it will always break off and not come back until a reboot.
Using o2 in germany
Have you tried it with the ril that comes with the rom. I believe the ril's are only for sense roms and not aosp.

I've flashed the same radio as the developer now, and made a fresh install.
I still got the same problem, but it disappears if I stick to 2g and deactivate HSDPA..
Anyone can help me?

Major radio issues; Cannot or can hardly connect to non-Wifi internet anymore

Hello,
I’m currently having major issues with the radio I flashed. I installed Virtuous Sense 2.0.0 with Unity V4 yesterday and flashed it with the recommended radio; 26.04.02.17.
It seemed to work fine, WiFi worked and I can send/receive texts and make calls.
However, today I noticed I was unable to surf the web on my mobile data plan. A reboot didn’t help either. I also noticed that the icon was showing 3g in an area which I know doesn’t have 3g. So I rebooted again and this time I could surf the web, but very very slowly. It took 5 minutes to open the maket.
Anyway, I flashed my old, original radio back (26.03.02.26) and the problem still remained.
As a last resort I flashed the newest radio (26.10.04.03) and the problems still remain.
I also tried reflashing the stock ROM, but that didn’t make a difference either, as well as the advanced kernel from virtuous.
I’m lost. Any help would be appreciated !
Thanks !
Sorry, but this is a prime example why flashing radios isn't needed unless you are having issues related to radio functionality.
Have you tried calling your service provider and ask them if they are having issues with data or provisioning?

I totally agree and I have learned from this. What's odd is that reflashing the original, working radio now doesn't seem to work anymore either.
I didn't call them, but a friend of mine who lives in my neighberhood who has the same service provider, doesn't have any issues.
Thanks

I would still call them and see if your device/sim is provisioned correctly.

I reflashed my old, original radio and this time I did not match RILs and all seems to be working as usual again.
Thanks for the input !

Major lost of signal that I can't fix

Hey guys,
I know about the 4.0.4 signal issue but mine is a little bit serious i think....
Since updated to 4.0.4 I'm loosing signal about 1 to 2 time per minutes. Even the new update to fix it didn't. I then installed AOKP+Latest baseband+Franco Kernel milestone 2 AND I STILL EXPERIENCE THAT ISSUE. My friend is set up the same way and don't have that problem.
Thing is, one I get the signal, if i place a call I can talk for hours without loosing the signal so if it was hardware related I think it would happen even on the line....(maybe i'm wrong on this one)
I'm on Rogers Wireless in canada.
I've tried also going into the *#*#4636#*#* menu and trying different prl WCDMA, GSM auto PRL, GSM Only, etc... still no difference.....
I'm attaching a screenshot of the nosignal app log....
Anyone have an idea?
Btw i also tried oc to 700mhz+ and issue is still hapening. Next step is a wall and some velocity....

Also, I don't know if it could be related but I'm suscribed to Rogers One Number. (I can use a PC to place calls using my phone number. Network can also transfer call to my pc if phone is off and things like that). It is.similar to google voice i think

What radio?
I had problems with my data not registering/holding a connection so I'd have to recycle the radio by airplane off/on just to initiate it, and when it did, the rates/latency was all over the place, reverted back to a kk6 radio and it resolved the issue.
My radio/baseband is I9250UGLC1 and I use it in Canada with Rogers.
I tried already to remove battery, remove and put back the sim card, clear cache, clear dalvjc, flash rom few times......nothing is working
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Give the UGLA4 radio a try, personally I found it to be the best of the bunch. The xx series of radios were awful for me.
Try to revert to a stock rom... I don't mean unroot just flash a stock rom. This made my problem go away
Already revert to canadian stock rom but the problem remain.....
Any rom or radio I flash do the same problem.....also tried the simcard of my friend to see if it was the sim but the bug mas also happening with his sim....
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
I don't know if it could me that but the first time i flashed 4.0.4 stock rom from google code website i tried to flash by mistake the version for nexus s. G tool abirted because it was not the same thing. Then i flashed the right one.
Could it has caused the bug? If so, any idea to solve?
Btw is someone know hot to try to sent it for repair?

[Q] I got s-on, but really want to flash the new radio!!!

Hello all.
First time poster. You guys got a great site here, you do great work. I need some help....
First, I'll tell you what I'm working with...
HTC EVO 4G
CM 7.2 Rom
anom ra recovery 4.3 smelkus by team dirt (before I started experimenting I had clockworkmod 5.0.2.2 recovery, but will stick with amon ra now)
HBoot-2.18.0001
Radio-2.15.00.12.19
What I've been trying to do is flash the new radio. Every road I go down leads to a dead end.
-I've tried going back to the sense rom and accepting the system update, it wouldn't update for me
-I've tried downloading a sense rom and flashing that, it flashed, but offered no firmware updates
-I've tried renaming the radio update file to PC36img,zip and going to the bootloader, but I have that dreaded S-on so it wouldn't take
-I've tried installing from zip in the recovery, that wouldn't work
I've tried several other things over the past couple of days. But, due to being frustrated (sometimes to the point of being close to vomiting), it is all running together right now and is difficult to outline each thing I tried right now.
Most things I've seen say I need S-off to do this. But, then I google the steps involved in getting my s-off, and that seems like such an insane and convoluted process that I think there HAD to be a better way out there. (I don't know why the unrevoked people wont make a product that works with the hboot 2.18.0001, but that's neither here nor there). I've also seen threads referencing relocking and then unlocking the phone again...those are months old. Someone has to have a better way by now.
Basically, I am having a very difficult time wrapping my head around the concept that this can't be done with an S-ON phone either through the recovery or through the ADB. There's got to be a way. What is it I'm missing?
Before anyone asks, here's why i want to do it...
Both me and my wife's phones have radio 2.15.00.12.19. We're constantly getting 1x no matter what we do. A few days ago, I rooted a friend's phone. Same phone, same rom, but I noticed he is getting 3G. I investigated, and he has radio 2.15.00.01.15. Since I would like for me and the wife to have our 3G back, naturally I'd like to get this radio flashed.
I have the new radio and it made zero difference in anything
Getting S-off is not that hard. Just follow directions. My 10 year old nephew can do it.
To be clear, you *must* have S-OFF to flash radios.
You're *sure* your friend has the "same ROM"?
Because the most obvious explanation for your heartburn is that Sprint often *does* drop any given phone (regardless of radio ) down to 1x: CM based ROMs accurately report this, while most stock or stock-based ROMs just ignore it and report "3G" all the time.
Is this really your only reason for switching radios?

First questions:
Yes, absolutely certain. I even used the same downloaded file to flash his as I did mine and my wife's.
Your second paragraph...yeah, I've been reading that. But, I'm thinking that "You can't win if you don't play" and I have to try something.
And, yes, this is my only reason for wanting to switch radios.

Your 10 year old nephew has probably had more success than I have finding a walkthrough that didn't contain one more more dead links to needed files. So far, I have not been as fortunate.

Search "HOW to root hboot 2.18.0001 + S-OFF"
Look here: http://themikmik.com/showthread.php...-18-HBOOT-with-HTCDev-com-No-More-Watermark!-)
Captain Throwback lays it out pretty well.
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much
Well, thank you for MOST of the responses.
I did what I didn't want to do here...I finally had some luck finding an S-OFF tutorial that didn't contain dead links. The links were mostly to outdated files, but I did the best I could with it. Now my phone has S-OFF
And, just as with HipKat, flashing the radio didn't make any difference at all.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a way to change your network priority settings.
For instance, If you're on Boost Mobile, Sprint has a lower priority for these devices to maintain a better service for its higher paying Sprint customers.
I've never changed these network settings myself, so some one else might help you if this is your issue.

Hey, other thing to consider is that Sprint is upgrading the network in your area. My experience in the las 6 weeks was that during the day on monday thru friday the data signal was awful, switching from 3G to 1XX and sometimes all day in 1XX. Check if there's a pattern when you have no data or is bad.
Now I have awesome data speeds even in 3G, I mean, in PR standards
Cheers
unfortunately, it has been constant 1x since I flashed the roms (CM7.2 for both of ours, several roms on mine alone but I'm back to CM7.2 now).
My wife has observed that she doesn't notice a difference, positive or negative, with her data speeds. I have to say that I have observed the same. I am really starting to believe that Sprint has deliberately mislead us with their 3g icon in the stock rom. If this is indeed true, isn't this like...you know...a crime or something?
you're on a Sprint PRL right? (I've noticed whenever I force CM to roam on "affiliated networks" all my data is 1x)
Sprint should give you 3G at least sometimes, CM or not. Have you observed this outside of your usual home area?

If by "home area" you're referring to geography, since I've flashed my rom I haven't left town really. Just work, home, and the usual errands. If you're referring to Sprint vs. Competitors...I don't know. My network system select was on home only. I have now set it to automatic. I'll toggle airplane mode and see how that does, I guess.
Maybe this is one of those occasions where updating your PRL and profile would be useful?
(Just to remind, this can only be done from a Sense ROM, so you may want an expert to chime in before you spend any time making a nandroid, flashing (or nandroiding back to) a Sense ROM, doing the update, and restoring back to CM)

tried it. About four days ago (give or take a day) I flashed back to my rooted stock rom. I attempted to update it. It would download, but on the reboot it would hang and give me a picture of the green little android guy standing next to a big triangle with an exclamation point in it. I googled and googled and googled, but could not find an answer as to why. I reattempted that about three times, same result each time.
So, I downloaded a stock rom (rooted) and updated the PRL successfully, profile successfully, tried to update firmware but told there was none, and I didn't try update the rom itself of course. Of course the sense rom told me I had 3g, but when I flashed back to CM7.2, same thing...the 1x.
That android with the red triangle typically means your recovery has been deleted.
