Heya everyone. Apologies if this isn't the right place.
Picked up a branded HTC Desire and after a couple of days, took the plunge. All went well, though I had to skip through a few sources for all the necessary bits and bods: I'll see if I can get all the info together for the fellow novices...
I've moved to a ROM that looks something like this:
* Firmware version: 2.1-update1
* Software Number: 1.21.405.1 CL172503 test-keys
* HBOOT: HBOOT-0.80.0000
Can generic/custom ROMs be loaded over one another, or do you need to use your goldcard each time?
Can generic HTC_Bravo_WWE* ROMs now be loaded? The one I have in hand is 1.15.*(.) Once this is loaded I can install later and earlier firmware versions (upgrade and downgrade)?
*hangs head in shame*
Word of advice...
If you happen to mess up part way through the procedure, start again.
When I first attempted rooting my handset, I ended up restarting it part way, and when I saw that the branding was gone, thought I had finished.
Apparently a factory reset and application of the boot.img in rootupdate.zip will get you to the end *sighs*

hi everyone
right
just bought desire unlocked from telstra shop and i need to debrand
i try so many ways no luck
is any simple way for newbe?
i'm happy to buy a goldcard from one of you guys if this is the problem
please help me
regards
Follow this instruction to root and flash custom roms:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...e-now-with-hboot-0-80-and-os-to-1-21-support/
In the beginning of that process you need to make a gold card, instruction can be found here
http://android.modaco.com/content/general-discussion/305672/creating-a-goldcard/
After everything is done, you should be able to flash whatever (compatible) rom you want. My recommendation is this
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...ustom-rom-for-htc-desire-with-online-kitchen/
I've done everything above on my Telstra branded Desire w/o any problem. So if you follow every step in the guides, it should go fine.
hi
thank you for your reply and help i try that and give me
FAILED (remote:41 model id check fail)
i not sure what else i can do
are you far from perth?
Me as well i get that same error i did upgrade when i 1st got the device not knowing about rooting! maybe the software i have in my sign. might be the issue... i was think about jumping ship to nexus one and go 2.2 on that device instead.. jump ship or wait it out?
What is the HBOOT version and software version on your Telstra branded desire? Did you use download the correct files for your version of the Desire?
I did get a failure message the first time I did it (don't remember the details of message), but it has to do with my gold card. In the end I realized that I should be using my Desire as a card reader when copying the gold card image onto the SD card, and after doing it again with an independent card reader everything worked fine.
H-boot 0.75.000
the software ver. is in my signature... i have tried doing the gold card multiple times and also using card reader 2 different types on 2 differ computers.. i am gonna wait for the 2.2 OTA hopefully or maybe jump ship on desire..
same here
H-boot 75
i done two gold card which i think (done ok) not sure if we can test in anyway
i really need to change this telstra rom
what else i can try??
Will be considering doing same in future..
Anyone done a debranding to the telstra rom successfully as yet..
when is the 2.2 out will it be available to users threw telstra etc?
yes when is it comin for telstra? i am about ready to jump ship to nexus one.. desire is nice but have to draw the line with branding crap... HURRY!
I have no idea why the rooting process didn't work for you guys. My Telstra branded Desire came with 0.75 HBoot and 1.16 software, same as mofoliar's. I didn't have any problem rooting it following the guide, beside the gold card creation part, so I can say confidently that the root and debranding procedure I posted above does work.
You guys would be better off looking for help at the corresponding threads at modaco forum than whining about it here, as people who have more technical knowledge behind these procedures probably won't be looking at this thread.
Two thing I remember reading before I root my Desire:
1) Some people say that the above procedure may have problem on some machines with 64 bit Windows. But it worked perfectly fine on my desktop with Windows 7 64bit.
2) Not every SD card can be converted into a gold card. Mine is a Transend class 6 16GB microSDHC, if that helps.
If you don't need root, you can just flash your phone in RUU way. But a goldcard is still needed.

and I'm sick of people asking questions without reading.
Go read carefully everything I posted here and what was said in the link I posted. You can find the answer to every question you asked very easily just by reading those posts again.
Given that you can't even read part of the instruction regarding the software version correctly, I'm not surprised that it didn't for for you.

I was wondering what rom version you were on simply because these T branded desires come with .75 and 1.16x versions. But thanks for the no help at all.
Sorry for posting this please delete or relocate if this thread is in wrong location or breaks the rule.
I just bought Desire. The seller said it was AMOLED version but I think it's SLCD as there seems to have light at the edge and on the box doesn't say anything about AMOLED. Doesn't matter, it is not important.
But, hope someone can help me with these:
1- This unit is bought in Malaysia under original SiS warranty. I know rooting it will void the warranty, what I want to know is can I unroot the phone to its original condition later before I send it for warranty? If yes then where can I read the guide to do this and the method?
2- As I planning to root the phone, does AMOLED or SLCD makes a difference?
3- What is the preferred memory card capacity and speed? I mean, most people said 8gb/16gb class 10 is good but is it necesssary?
Thank you
2- yes! People bricked their phone due to having and slcd version! Check your hboot turn the phone off. Once everything is off press and hold volume down and tap power... wait youll see a menu 2nd line should say. Hboot something like 0.80 etc. Theres some useful threads in the dev section
Cant renenber the number) for me it never made a differance.. class 4 8gb was good enough for me never had to wait fot it load or anything
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
HBOOT/SLCD is irrelevent as once unrEVOked 3.2.x has been released you can root it with one program...as for going back to stock/unroot yo'll need to see if there's an RUU file of the ROM your Desire comes with.
To check what you're using at the moment (or when the phone arrives) go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post the information here. We can then advise

Right, it seems you've got the Asian ROM, and there's a FroYo ROM available...
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe
That should work (if it asks for logins, username/password is shipped)

Thanks for the link. Am I just need to flash this ROM or should I follow the step as stated in the wiki?
So, before I flash my phone, just want to be sure again, how can I save a backup of my current ROM or where can I find a stock ROM in case I needed it later?
I still have 2 years warranty, so my understanding is that if I ever want to claim my warranty, I need to unroot the phone back to stock ROM before sending it over. Correct?
So, rooting the phone is not a problem for warranty right?
Thanks.
No the one Eddy is linking is the original rom. Just the froyo(2.2) version.
If you want to root you should look for a topic on it in the development section.
Btw. I believe the 0.83 hboot means you have got slcd screen please read on for faq about rooting slcd:

Thanks. I have the guide bookmarked earlier and have read it through
I do have my preferred ROM for rooting. But, just want to be confirm that I can still unroot my phone after rooting. right?
One more thing, can someone point me where I can find stock ROM 2.1 Eclair SEA?
Thanks.
Sorry for the long post guys, but just want to let you know all the facts so that you can advice me. I bought my HTC Desire from Dubai recently. The phone is new, never rooted, unbranded. The details are as follows
Andriod version 2.2
Baseband version 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version 2.6.32.15-gd96fc0 htc-kernel at and18-2 # 1
Build number 2.32.415.3 cl283905 release-keys
Software number 2.32.415.3
Browser webkit 3.1
Only when I started using it, I got to know it’s the Arabic version and there is a software called Al-Moazin which sends out a prayer call at various times of the day. (Very helpful to Muslims I’m sure, but I’m not a Muslim, wears down the bat and suddenly goes off during meetings ). Tried everything (forced stop – it auto restarts, software uninstallers, startup blockers etc) but could not uninstall it.
Took it to the store I bought it from, they have no clue, recommended a factory reset, which did not work.
Reading up on all the help you guys had given others in this forum, got to know that I need to get a stock RUU (WWE) since this software is bundled in the ROM. Downloaded RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed, (I prefer to go Stock since I’m still new to this and not yet brave enough for custom ROMs) created a goldcard (to be safe) got as far as the Bootloader version Error (140). Based on your advice, I got to know that this due to my existing ROM build being 2.32 and I’m trying to flash 2.29 (lower version, could not find anything higher than that) hence wont work…
My question is, is there any other option there for me to get a stock RUU (WWE) froyo, or do it need to wait until Gingerbread gets released and you guys post a stock RUU for that… or is there a safe way to get the source of this problem Al-Moazin uninstalled?
Thanks a lot for your help people, all the old posts helped a bunch.
checkout post 5 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696189
you can use adb commands to remove applications from roms, but, according to the tut, you need to be rooted.
all you will need to find out is tha apps name - might be as simple as Al-Moazin.apk. and you can simply delete that app without having to worry about replacing the entire rom.
another option for you to consider anyway.
I have a basic n00b question, I'm only asking because there's far too much information available to easily find what best fits my needs.
I have an unlocked A3335 wildfire (the 850Mhz Telstra version), I'm using it on optus so I know I can only get 2100MHz 3G coverage in the city.
All I want to do is remove all the telstra junk and restore the phone back to how HTC would ship it if telstra didnt insist on ruining phones (all the junk apps they include could easily be optionally installed from marketplace if you want their crap...) Its hard to explain to your wife use gmail and not "My Email" because theyre both different, use google maps not sensis maps etc.
I really don't care about boot screen one way or the other.
There are so many ROMS and options available, including the ones from shipped roms (it wont let me post the link because I'm new).
I'm currently on the latest ( 2.38.841.1 Radio 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10). So what do I use to keep android 2.2, and HTC sense, but remove telstra (obviously I'm in australia)?
I assume I can follow the regular guides for rooting, creating goldcards etc etc?
Some kind of ROM naming guide would also be nice, it's hard to tell whether I base it purely on version, or some of the other fields in the names. I'm kind of thinking either of these 2, but i dont know if ones later than the other, or its just EU vs Asia or what...

RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe
It would be kind of nice to know which one telstra took and modified.
Thanks!
I was thinking the same as you.It would be so nice if someone Like danne_jo could make a safe version of this rom RUU_Buzz_Froyo_Telstra_WWE_2.38.841.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_167270_signed.exe
Plus remove the unwanted apps from the rom also has hboot hboot_7225_1.01.0002_101227.nb0..
For starters you will have to downgrade your hboot from 0002 to 0001 before you can use AlphaRevX you could try it before just in case it will work with the Telstra Rom it has for some Apparently..Before you can have s-off.
I had WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.2 4H_3.35.20.10 hboot 0001 on the phone before using AlphaRevX for s-off.Then installed CM 7.03 extracted the radio.img from Telstra_WWE_2.38.841.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10 and update to the telstra radio file.Just to make sure I had Telstra's 3G
You may want have a look at this Thread before starting.Make sure you backup your phone first..

If you just want to remove the telstra nonsense yet keep the original android 2.2 then I recommend using this app :
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.anttek.am&feature=search_result
But in order to use this app you will need to root your phone. Or the other option would be to use the shipped ROM like you mentioned. Sadly I don't know which of the two ROMS would be good for you!!
Just for Wildfire A3333.
Well, you can use WWE indicated ROMs from Shipped ROMs, because those are free of carrier junk, pure HTC, and should work world wide.
And it has to be indicated 2.x for Android 2.2.
I recommend this one: Link to Shipped ROMs.
Hit thanks if I helped you.
Edit: In order to install the RUU you downloaded from S.R., you have to create a Gold Card, and I'm not sure, do S-OFF with AlphaRev. (You can try to install it without S-OFF, and if it does not succeed, you know what's the problem.)
Although installing a wwe would remove the carrier junk, you must pay attention to the radio flashed in those RUUs. Especially if you have a regional specific band.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
If removing bloatware is the primary concern, then if the phone can be made s-off by alpharevX it should be done.
And WWE RUU shouldn't be installed, since it has issues with some frequency of A3335
S-OFF by alpharevX
Install custom recovery (optional - not needed for just removing bloatware)
Root the rom
Install "Superuser" + "Titanium Backup"
Remove system apps through titanium backup.
But i don't know how the alpharevX goes when it comes to A3335 wildfire. I remember nand write error for someone with A3335. But don't know about it much (whether it is fixed or not).
Ah, sorry, didn't realize its A3335, mine is A3333 so this method worked.
Sorry again.
mate, im in thwe same vote as you, but im on the HBOOT 1.01.002 version causeing alparevx to have problems on me. if i d were you i would check the index page for the wildfire for basic roms that have no telstra crap and just stock android with htc sense.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029318
Thanks guys.
As far as I can see, the radio version in all the latest ROMs has the same number as the telstra ROM, I think I read somewhere that the newer firmwares have a version of the radio that supports all the different hardware. Anyway it doesn't really matter since my network is 900Mhz anyway (I picked this phone up super cheap for my wife to use), we can only get 2100MHz 3G in the city and drop back to GSM in the country (no different to her old iphone 3G).
I think I'll try rooting and S-OFF with AlpharevX first, then see about removing the telstra applications, if thats good enough then I'll leave it at that.
If not, then I'll search for the ROM thats the best fit for what I want, I did want to stick with a stock HTC ROM, but then if nobody uses those it's probably best to go with one of the ones from the index page that more people use, at least then I have some information about what I'm applying.
Those stock WWE roms confuse me, there has to be some method to their versioning and naming system. I'm still not sure on the difference between:
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.22.405.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_160191_signed.exe
RUU_Buzz_Froyo_hTC_Asia_WWE_2.24.707.1_Radio_13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10_release_161113_signed.exe
The asia one has the newer version, but I'm not sure whats different between the asia and non-asia ones (obviously the TW and HK ones are country specific.)
Thanks guys! I'll try the safer option first, she'll kill me if I brick her new phone. I'll get one for myself to play with afterwards.
This Morning I made a Rom from the ( 2.38.841.1 Radio 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10) Telstra's new Rom version. In Mintlinux with Kitchen I removed all the Telstra stuff. And installed the Rom and it works Beautifully .The phone now has just the plan stock 2.28.841.1 with the Telstra Radio for 3G.
What was on the phone before I Updated was =
alpharevX s-off 0001
Rooted
CM7.03
So as you can see I never needed to downgrade the phone or goldcard as this was already done.
You must have s-off and a goldcard if this has not been done first to install the Rom.
Backup First and read the forums on how to s-off ClockworkMod and rooting. If you install the Rom before installing wipe data/factory reset..

Hey Fr3ddY303,
It seems your Rapidshare link is dead (no great surprise there - considering it was 6mths ago you uploaded it).
Just wondering if you still had it laying around somewhere and were willing to upload it again? I would love to have a copy of it if possible.
Failing that, could you recommend a tutorial on how I could go about recreating it. I have rooted my Wildfire and have a backup of the ROM in question and use Linux, but I am finding it a little daunting, mostly because there seems to be too much info! (And a lot of it doesn't seem consistent...)
Thanks
