Hey guys...
I flash the new Kingdom Stock Rom and since is not stable for a daily I had to go back to a z rom.. I try Uber z, Warm Z.. and both are giving me a little bug that I havent had with any other rom...
I get a...
Attention..
"A network error has occurred retry, or cancel and return to the previous screen."
I also get an X instead of the 3g icon when i get this message... apps that are affected are..
Tapatalk
Dropbox
Market
Facebook
I didnt had this problem before, it all started after I flash to the 3. sense... I also had noticed that the phone will freeze sometimes and I have to do a Battery Pull....
Any comments or suggestion would be appreciated...
The "X" means you have no network connection and those apps mentioned require a data connection so that's why they are effected. I would highly recommend wiping the phone (I always wipe 3x's although ppl say it isnt needed) and reinstalling a rom. Since you are starting from scratch I would recomend either the GB leak for our phone because it works with no bugs or the gingersense remix rom by wdfowty. I am running remix and it is amazing. Super smooth and as snappy as stock but with sense 2.1/3.0 elements.
Also when you wipe make sure you wipe data, cache, delvik cache, and battery stats.

I am wondering why this happens as time goes by while using a particular ROM,
I am actually having 3g/date connection problems atm I had good 3g but now nothing..I am only running on wifi now.
I am using SR3.5 and Magnolia with default Kernels pretty much default ROMS.

My phone works flawlessly with the stock rom or any sense-based rom. However, whenever I try to run an AOSP rom (tried CM and Evervolv so far), I get random restarts a few times a day while the phone is idling. I do wipe data, cache, and dalvik twice each before flashing. It happens whether or not I use the bundled kernels or a different kernel, and it happens even if I don't install any applications at all. I love the feel of AOSP roms, but I'm starting to think they are a pipe dream for me. Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

flash MIUI and see if you have the same recurring problem
Thank you, I'll try that tonight.
Hey all, I have only been flashing custom ROMs onto my G2 for about a month now, so this might be a dumb oversight. Ever since RC4, I have had an issue where every single time I reboot or power off the phone and power it back on, I get the HTC screen for a few seconds and then the CyanogenMod 7 splash screen with the arrow going round and round. And that's it. Even overnight. Now the ROM runs BEAUTIFULLY all the time. No GPS, Google Sych, or Battery Life Issues. Love it, so any help that would allow me to stick with this ROM would be great.
I am running CM 7.0.0
.26 Radio
the base CM7 kernel (2.6.32.28)
Overclocked to 1017Mhz
What should I do to get this issue to stop?

Have you tried a full wipe and then reflash? What rom did you come from? A few details about those things might make it easier for people to help u
dont send me pm's crying about how i hurt your feelings in a thread
I came from the stock post-ota ROM. I did a full wipe when I installed RC4, but I haven't since, just wipe data then re-flash. Should I wipe everything - data, cache, dalvik, etc and then re-flash? Of course Nandroid before...
just cache and dalvik was enough... no data wipe needed (at least.. I haven't needed that before)
But I still need to re-flash the ROM after I clear cache and Dalvik though, right?
Well, apparently, that worked out. Everything is humming along just fine. Thanks a lot for the help everyone.
I have some issues with my Defy, it worked great for about 5 weeks with Quarx's CM7 the i started to get random lags, all apps crashing and freezes. I wiped the cache and dalvik cache, still not working.
After that i installed MIUI, worked pretty good for 2 days then got the same problem. Wiping the cache didn't worked here either so i decided to re-install CM7 (7.1.0-jordan) but still got the same problem.
I tried lowering the CPU settings to the default but it had no effect.
What else can i do?
I'm kinda new to this so please, have mercy.
Thanks in advance!
Could it be the RAM (not enough available)? Use an app like this or similar and see if there's any difference.
Also, if you like CM7, go for CM7.2 - it already has a RC version, and it's stable and fast (bug fixes included, tweaks, interface optimizations, etc). Regarding the CPU: it's not necessary to underclock to the stock 800mhz value, just be careful about the voltages (don't go too low suddenly, or you'll get freezes or random soft restarts - try to undervolt progressively).
Plus, it's a good habit to wipe Cache and Dalvik cache before and after flashing a ROM/nightly.
it's not the ram, i used netqin from the beginning which has a widget that shows available memory and a task manager and the lowest memory i ever had was 100MB. currently on cm7.1 i have 213mb available.
is there a way to completely revert all changes, like a factory reset?
Actually, task managers on Android don't fix any problems, they even cause problems - I would get rid of that if I were you.
Like a factory reset? Wiping data from custom recovery (but you'll lose all data, settings, apps, etc on the phone), but you keep your current ROM.
Give CM7.2 a shot, it might be better.
Edit: Did you have these problems before installing that task manager?
i really don't care about the current ROM, i would go for the stock android just to have a working defy. do i need to flash a sbf before installing 7.2?
could it be a hardware problem?
Don't flash a SBF!
If you are already on CM7 just flash a CM7.2 version like a nightly (wipe Cache and Dalvik cache, before and after flashing). When I used CM7.2, I was happy with a version by maniac103, from 27 February. Stable, fast, good battery life.
If you really don't care about all of your settings and apps and data and so on, you could try to wipe Data in custom recovery before installing CM7.2, it might solve that issue (but I'm not sure, and it's not really worth it to try it now, only as a last solution). But if you do that, remember to flash gapps too, after the ROM.
But first try CM7.2 and use your phone for a while without that task manager.
No, I don't think that it's a hardware problem, especially if it worked fine after you flashed MIUI.
just installed cm7.2, will update if problem still occurs.
Thanks!
You're welcome.
Great, I hope you'll get rid of those issues. Did you also remove that task manager?
Yes, kept just the basic stuff for now. i have a problem with the proximity sensor, after a call the screen stays off and i have to remove the battery. I tried loosing the back screw and several ways of disabling the sensor but none worked.
Any ideas?
I noticed that in every single ROM thread it says to wipe data and factory reset before flashing..
but one time i forgot to do it and just wiped cache then flashed a new ROM, and so on, and so on..
After i booted my phone i noticed that all my data and settings was exactly how it was before i flashed the new ROM..
i have done it this way with Juggernaut 5.0 and SlickMod 3.6 RC1 and never experienced a bug or anything unusual by doing it this way.. (although every time i tried an ICS ROM I followed the instructions perfectly)
it sure saved me a lot of time setting up my phone again
my question is ... has anyone seen bad results by doing it this way?
Theres more to it than that. The problems arise when you flash system data on top of another rom's system data. The ROM maker may have put tweaks in that mixed with another ROM's tweaks could cause unwanted effects. For example, TDJ builds his roms and kernal specifically for his roms, and states if you use another kernal his tweaks wont work.
Hello,
I have owned a Sprint Galaxy S III since August of 2012 and have been using it pretty much flawlessly until this week.
To give some history, I rooted it once it became a common thing to do and have CWM-based Recovery v5.5.0.4.
I have loaded many different roms - cyanogenmods, m.o.a.r., wicked, miui to try out and many others and have never had an issue.
I recently upgraded to M.O.A.R. v 6.0 at home and everything seemed great - loaded apps, settings, etc. The next day on the way to work, the phone restarted by itself. I thought was strange but chalked it up to a new rom issue. When I got to work, the frequency of the issue increased to the point that the phone was no longer usable as it would just continue to restart, boot, etc.
Restoring the rom I previously had did nothing to help the issue.
I looked up online at possibilities and came across the SD card issue. I replaced it, but still occurs. I've tried a few different roms and no matter what, it seems to continuously boot and restart based on certain locations that I am in or am passing through.
Today, I turned off 4G LTE as preferred mobile network and it seemed to keep the phone on. I have not done extensive testing, but could this be an issue? I am able to use 4G LTE at home with no problem as well as other areas, but it seems that once I am in or pass through certain locations, that it is crashing my phone? Maybe the GPS?
Are there any tips or suggestions of what I can do or try? I am at a loss as to how to fix this when it has not been an issue up until this week after flashing to MOAR v6.0. I've wiped data, cache, dalvik, many times and retried but still is happening.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
At first it sounded like sudden death syndrome (a power button failure) but when you said turning off 4G fixed it that is very weird. Have you tried asking in the M.O.A.R thread?

Could be your kernel. Or any kernel tweaks you are using

Are you restoring any System Data ? I would suggest doing a Clean install. Meaning a FULL Wipe : System - Data - Dalvik - Dalvik Cache - Factory Reset ( 3x's ) . I also like to wipe Internal Storage. But that's up to you. Then Flash the Rom, and let it Boot. Do not load anything, or tweak anything. Just leave the device alone for the first 5min. Then test it to be sure everything is working correctly before loading apps, or doing any settings.
Just to update...
I clean installed MOAR 6 again - this time I upgraded CWM to latest version. I clean wiped data/cache, cache, dalvik about 3 or 4 times. Once it reinstalled, I noticed the data wasn't working at all so I did that ##72786# (forgot numbers off top of head) that reactivated phone. The data came back and I thought this was going to solve all the issues...keep in mind I did all this in the evening from home last night.
On the way to work this morning, sure enough once I got in the vicinity of work, phone restarted a few times. I was quick enough to catch it one time to turn preferred mobile networks to 3G first and disable 4G... my phone has not restarted for the rest of the day.
It's great that it seems the issue is isolated to 4G, but I don't understand how it can be fine in some areas and not in others. For instance, at home, 4G works just fine.
I think I will try to go back to stock or try an aosp rom. I've seen in some places talk of MB1 and MD4...is there a way to tell which I have or is that related to anything?

Actually, yes - I have been putting my gmail account information in and it has been syncing the apps. It's just so odd because I haven't had issues for over a year and I don't recall installing any new stuff.
well, now it happened at home when turning on 4g... damn.

You did not mention wiping system. If you do not Wipe system, and also Factory Reset then it's really not a Clean install. I would still suggest a FULL Wipe, and Clean install. Then run the Device for a while without adding anything. See how it performs.
I ended up just flashing this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099 to stock with flash reset.
I am not sure about wiping system - I always just follow the steps of the rom wipe data/cache/dalvik. I will have to research on how to wipe system.
If you never wipe system you are definitely going to run into problems.

You just do it in Recovery before you flash. If you look at my Sig on a PC / Internet Mode there is a link on how to do Full Wipe before flashing a Rom.
