I'm in Italy doing some work, and just poped at the local supermarket. Picked up a TETRAX car holder. 19.95 Euro. Immediately stopped in Hotel parking to fit, and it doesn't look bad compared to a big plasticky holder i had in air vents.
It requires to attach a little metal clip into the back of the phone, which doesn't sit flush, but neither does camera, and since I keep the phone in a silicone sleeve easy to take off when i get into the car, this looked much better then what i had, with put the phone in, squeeze, both sides of the plastic holder, then click at the back to release the phone. Now phone just slides out sideways from magnet. Looks very stable and good typing on the phone while attached.
It has another 3 larger clips specifically for TomTom Nav and other heavier devices.
Silly little thing but got me wondering
Electronics and strong magnets has always been a bad idea IMO.
If you use your phone for sat nav, that will screw up the compass big time.

I've always liked the simple use of the Garmin GPS clipping system, you just snap the unit in and that's it. When I saw the Kensington mounting system, I was ecstatic but then disappointed to find out that it would not work with my Seidio Innocase. I ended up staying with my MOBI vent mount but the vent clips aren't secure enough and the whole unit slides around when I turn and go over bumps so I went on ebay to purchased a Garmin GPS vent mount to use the coiled spring vent clips so it'll hug the vent. Turns out those spring clips don't attach to my MOBI vent mount. At this time I figured I'd just disassemble the two and get a $60 solution from ProClips. This is when I discovered my perfect solution. I just took a piece of foam from the MOBI unit and taped it to the wider clip of the Garmin GPS clipping unit and now my EVO holds securely with or without my Seidio case. It doesn't have to be a vent mount, as long as you have the Garmin GPS clippping unit and a 17mm ball mount. I've included a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri0AWroEzhQ
So I pretty much just bought this GPS vent mount from ebay user chxee (seems to be the only one selling them for cheap starting at 99cents. I got mine for $2.75, I've seen some going for just 99cent free shipping.)
Garmin air vent mount nuvi 255w
The foam piece can be purchased from a crafts store.
Anyways, here are the pics:
Try heating it up with a hair dryer and see if you can permanently bend it. Should work, and might be the perfect solution.
i thought about that, it was my last resort. but now with this foam workaround i think the foam gives it an extra grip to keep it from sliding.
How does that mount hold in your vent. I see it's similar to this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/Car-Air-Vent-Mo...EVO-4G-Black-/390229156793?pt=PDA_Accessories
I had a vent mount for my iPhone 3G but it was significantly lighter than the EVO, haha.
I ordered one (suction for $4.99 since I like that better), but I'm wondering if there's anything better than foam to use since that looks a bit tacky. I want it to look professional. Might try the hairdryer route, but am afraid of snappage. Let me know if you have any ideas.
Springs = CHINSEY
I had this car mount for my Evo 4G for about 2 weeks, and literally after taking the phone in and out of the cradle (Correctly, I might add. I wasn't tearing it out, rather pressing the release button, and then removing.) about twice a day for not even two weeks, both of the plastic connectors on the arm-end of the spring loaded clamp snapped off. Any suggestions on how we can reinforce this? If it hadn't snapped, I LOVED THIS THING!
Ive been looking for a car mount for my A500 for a month now and all I've found are suction cup and headrest mounts, none with any great reviews. There are a few vent mounts out there but still none seem to be quite sturdy. I had a dream about using two of my cell phone holders as a mount, Rocketfish RF-VMU5's. It turned out to be far easier than I'd thought. Removing the two inner side holders was easy as theres a small clip that can be taken out with a screwdriver and allows both top and bottom holders to be removed. After that I just installed them on my two center vents as far apart as I could. Finally the protective case that I've bemoaned came in handy as its thin sides fit into the rubber holder grooves perfectly. Ive driven around for a few hours and made sure to take speed bumps and potholes at a quick pace and it hasn't slipped or jostled out at all. The vibration is fairly minimal as well without any foam inserts or taping. Now to just find a car charger for the thing. Sorry I didn't take step by step pics, but here's the finished product:
I be getting one of these soon. Glad to see people Modding their own holders. Looks good. Good idea.

Update: after over a week no problems yet, vibration is not a problem at all, highway or roughish roads (havent gone offroading just yet) I bought a new Belkin case and am much more pleased than the original Acer synthetic case Ive been using, seems a more secure enclosure. Also picked up a DC charger at radioshack for $15. Still doesnt slide or shift around, feels quite stable. All in all for $50 worth of material Im pretty happy with it.
Good news for all you Proclip fans,
I just recieved mine today and it works with the Samsung Extended battery just as well as the standard battery. There is a 1/2 in space behind the phone that should allow for even the most extreme extended batteries to fit as long as the battery cover does not extend beyond where the original battery cover fits (like if it wraps around the side of the phone it will not fit).
I ordered Proclip part number 513331 (Hard wired install).
Proclip doesn't disappoint either, this mount is just as awesome as the one for my old DINC. Nice and sturdy.
I'll post some pics later when I get it installed.
As is typical with proclip mounts, the mount is designed based on the physical dimensions of the phone (specifically the sides of the phone) so cases that change those dimensions will cause the phone to not fit in the grooves correctly.
Pix of the proclip in action
Grabbed a couple of pics for anyone interested.
Looks good, I had the incredible one too, but imo it was a little to hard to get in and out. Unfortunately since I already chipped my phone, I'm too scared to go naked with this phone. Plus their price is just too high for me.

I wont argue that they are spendy - I already had the base part but it's like $100 for both pieces for newbies.
But I do get something that no other mount has been able to offer me - this one is wired into the car, I can use only one hand to put my phone in it, and it doesn't fall or move when I press too hard. Considering the Verizon one is $40 and a POS it seemed worth the extra.
But yea if you have a case it's not so good.
does you phone fall if you turn the screen for navigation ?
I just ordered Proclip's adjustable mount 875214. Hopefully it will work well with my diztronic case. It grips near the bottom of the phone so it shouldn't interfere with any of the buttons or ports. I'll update after it arrives with the results!

Should be good, as it is adjustable. I wish they made the sides of the powered mount adjustable...

Nope, it stays in there really well.

Well for those who aren't aware, these Proclip holders come in 2 pieces: The first is a custom-fit bracket for your particular vehicle, and the other is the actual phone holder.
So let me start with the holder. The one I got is adjustable and holds my Galaxy Nexus with Diztronic case extremely well. It's snug but not difficult to remove, and leaves plenty of room behind the phone for the craziest of extended batteries. A+
Then there's the mounting bracket... I selected 853616 for my '07 Impreza. It hooked in behind the panel just fine and it is made of the same plastic as the holder which was nicer than I expected.
Unfortunately, it goes downhill from here: This particular bracket is a bad fit. All the angles are off, and as a result the adhesive backed sections do not contact the vehicle properly. Even if they did, the adhesive is so weak that I'm not sure it would stick. I'm going to have to pull it all apart and go to work with some thick double-sided adhesive tape of my own in order to deal with the gaps and get it installed properly. Not cool, especially considering the whole kit ended up costing me about $60. Now, there's lots of different brackets for lots of different cars out there, so your mileage may vary.
At any rate, it does a much better job holding the phone than my cupholder did.
Got mine a couple of days ago.
As has been noted, they come in two pieces. The piece that holds the phone is very, very nice and will definitely work with any reasonable extended battery. It's very snug, but not too snug, and the fit is perfect. I got one of the powered versions and it's fantastic.
The car mount piece, for me, is of similar quality. The fit is near stock and the thing is damn near impossible to remove.
As a unit, the two pieces are rock solid.
Highly recommended. I wouldn't hold out for the Samsung three pin holder. I had that same holder (minus the three pins, obviously) for my Nexus S - and this one is far, far, far better.

How snug of a fit is it? I have Verizon galaxy nexus with extended battery and Diztronic case. Does it take quite a bit of pressure to put it in the holder? Also, is the headphone jack open at the bottom?

That's what I had to do for my wife's Civic. She got the car mount that affixes to the center console and that one piece of double sided tape just wasn't cutting it. I used a heat gun to remove the factory tape and then liberally applied tape to all parts contacting the console. It's been holding steady for over a year.
Proclip should probably give people more sticky tape - but I think the reason they only use a single piece is because they tout that the proclip doesn't damage the car and it could be argued that uber liberal amounts of double-sided sticky tape could potentially damage some surfaces. In the civic it’s all plastic so it’s NBD to use a heat gun and remove any residue, but if was a BMW with an oak dash then I could see people complaining.

I don't think any case would work with the proclip because it is a very snug fit and yes it takes a fair amount of pressure to put it in. Not so much that it will move the dock but certainly enough to keep the phone from coming out accidentally.
The only reason the extended battery works is because there is nearly a 1 inch opening behind the phone and the battery cover does not extend to the edge.
Yes the headphone jack is open but you would need a connector that is straight. A 90 degree connector would not work.
hello everyone. i saw the video review of this same case a while back and i found it just a little lacking, so i figured id fill in some details with my own photo review.
First of all, delivery came out of england instead of the usual china or hong kong or whatever, so it was comparatively short (and in royal packaging none the less :victory: )
opening the plastic packaging unveils a fairly nice, faux leather wallet case. it doesn't feel overly cheap to the touch, but you can definitely tell that it isn't real leather.
on the outside, it has Sonivo printed in the lower right hand side and closes with a magnetic flap that does not sit flush with the case. it sticks up from the surface a bit and from what i found, tended to get caught up in my pocket.
the back is plain, with just a cutout for the camera and flash. i have not noticed any distortion in my photos with this case, which was one of the complaints for a few of the other wallet cases out there.
on the inside of the cover, there are two extremely thin credit card holders. i could barely fit one card in each at the same time and they were very hard to pull out, but i suspect that they will break in after a while. there are also two sim card slots on the very front which i can not see a use for unless you are travelling with the phone. behind everything and facing the spine of the case is a pouch for cash. it is an odd shape because of the phone and is still very thin, so i had a hard time fitting any US dollar bills inside of it. because of the weird shape, you have to fold the bills width-wise and either way you slide them in makes them stick out the side. i could also fit only two bills inside the case with my cards before i had trouble closing the case properly. this isn't a deal breaker for me because i usually use my debit card anyway, and nfc payments are getting more popular as well.
on the other side is what i think is a tpu snap cover which is only attached on one side, which allows the whole things to bend into a rudimentary stand. the case fits snugly and allows access to all of the buttons, speakers and the sim tray. no problems here.
nfc and qi charging also work with this case, but i will get to that later. it also has a hall effect sensor, which allows it to turn the screen of the phone on and off. very cool and very useful.
now my main complaints about this case are as follows.
-when the case is folded into its "stand mode," the phone sits at an odd angle, which may make it uncomfortable to see. i wont be using this much anyway, but you might.
-the magnet on the flap is VERY weak. it holds the case closed well, but when it is folded backwards for when you take a call or something, it will not hold itself closed. this does get a little annoying for me, but oh well.
-The flap does not sit flush with the case when it is closed, so it may get hung up on things. this i can understand though, because making it sit flush would make the case much thicker than it already is, which isnt bad for a wallet.
-the small capacity
-the site advertises a white, version, but when i ordered that, they delivered a black one. i dont know if both cases are the same or what, but it doesnt make a difference to me. the black case gives a nice contrast to the white phone.
-finally, qi charging may be problematic for you. this case creates a pretty large space between the qi charger and the phone, which may slow down charging. it may also block the magnets in some of the charging pads that hold the phone in place. most importantly is the odor though. as many of you know, qi charging warms the phone slightly, and with it the case. because of the synthetic leather and the tpu case and whatever the hell they put in it, heating creates a terrible, sweet, plasticy, resinous scent that lingers around the case. if you are using it indoors shortly after charging, you will be able to smell it at texting distance.
overall, even with my many complaints, this is still a very nice case and fits my needs quite well. i do wish it was a little bigger, and that scent can get pretty annoying, but this is probably one of the best wallet cases currently out for the nexus 5. it has a premium feel and is not very expensive.
After I was looking for a bike mount I simply chose this and ordered.
Delivery of course as usual quickly with Amazon Prime.
At first I was a little skeptical when I saw the fastening method with the rubber bands.
This skepticism was gone after the first try immediately. In the pictures, the holder acts huge, so I was pleasantly surprised when I received it.
It is pretty small, well packaged and assembly instruction was also there. The blue areas are all gummed and coated in the supply with a protective film. The lateral mounting arms with feathers on train kept so many devices can be transported with it. The suspension is so strong that my phone (HTC 10) also remained so already in the holder. For safety's sake you do of course still the 4 rubber straps up so that the device is firmly locks in the holder. Of course, the fixing on the bicycle handlebar designed to also easily and is suitable for all kinds of thick rods.
All in all this is a great product at a reasonable price.
I've been using my S7 Edge with the Choetech mount on my mountain bike for a month now. At first I didn't think the silicone band would stretch over my S7 with a Samsung case on it but it does. The design and build quality of the mount is good. The phone isn't going anywhere. It's cool that I can listen to Pandora while riding and still be able to hear any noise around me. I'm thinking on getting a backup phone though just in case I wipe out. *knocks on wood* lol
I also have a few Choetech wireless chargers. Never had a issues with their products and the pricing is good.
One piece of advice if I may: if you are going to actually use it on your bike, please use some glue or some other form of reinforcing the part that is connecting the actual holder to the handlebar grip. Those 4 pins will "unclick" by themselves if the vibrations are strong enough (like when you ride on rough terrain or if you go on and off the sidewalk). It happened to me in the past and I ruined a nice phone back then. Lesson learned.

If mounted upright, and set it to record video. Does the mount obstruct the camera at all? Looks like it's close to clearing the mount. I'm looking for something that can record without obstructing the camera.
If you guys are looking for a really solid bike mount, I tested this one for Cheotech and it is pretty secure. I would recommend it.
I use it with my HTC 10 and Neo Hybrid case and it fits great. Just FYI if ppl want more options
