Well after searching and trying by all means fix my SD I put my case (I have 2 days trying to) Anyway, I made an ext4 partition with 1GB mini tool. as stipulated in casnones I backup my data and format. and ploff. first on the forehead. I do not recognize the sd. But most curious is that the recovery itself. The card reader also. I formatted with the mini tool, I formatted from windows, I formatted from a live cd linux Gparted, I formatted with paragon, I formatted the HD itself (I remind you that the recovery recognizes me) I formatted from the Galaxy TAB. And I'm lost. No longer do. There must be something lost in that giga (ext4) but it is curious that not even the recognition that partition linux. and no longer know what to do ...... Any recommendations??
sorry for my English using google translator
Hi,
Sorry I'm having trouble understanding your post. I'm sure its due to the way its translated, not the way you pose your question.
What I would do is, PM SERGI.3210. Like yourself he is Spanish and would understand your post if written in Spanish.
Let us know how you get on.

Ok. thanks!!!
Well .... Fixed. With Gparted live usb made a check with a sd that if I worked, but of course, was much smaller. I realized that in the options, little had marked the options "boot and lba"and that's what I did. Format the sd with Gparted, to fat32 and then click the right button and went to check these two options there and arranged boxes.

glad for you chemita... and hey "the first in the forehead" its a 100% spanish expression, brittish don´t use it but i laughed when i was read it lol
I'm glad you got it sorted. Sergi, you get my thanks.

Hi All,
What is the best way to install marketplace applications to your SD card rather then the internal phone memory.
I've looked around and found that you can adjust the NAND to install a .IMG file on the SD card and use it as the main data store, but id prefer not to do it this way (Windows Mobile gives you a choice to install to internal memory or external card).
Sorry if posting in wrong place.
Thanks all

No? =S
I asked how to INSTALL ANDROID, this is not installing Android, this is installing applications to the sd card, internal memory is limited and will run out fast.
No one has tried to do this then?
Easiest way is to just re-install, with data.img in root and select ext2 via img.
This question has been answered a few times in different guides in this forum.
Here's a good one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=680518
under "Installing Applications Onto SD Card using Ext2"
Hi thanks for replies, yes I know there are guide already, but they are either partitioning the card or using a *.img file.
It seems crazy that (IMO sucky) windows mobile can do this but Android cant.
Is there some reason why Android is unable to do this?
Is it just a development thing, and in time they might change this?
Are other users of "proper" android phones, (e.g tmobile g1) able to just install to memory card or do they hit the same problem?
Thanks,
They have the same problem, all Android versions have the same problem....UNTIL NOW!
Froyo now has the option to move installed apps to the sd back and forth!! The details are at 1:35 of the developer video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAZYSVr2Bhc
Very sweet...listening to the community So just wait and sit tight for Froyo on our Kaisers!!
it would still be nice to be find out how they did it and mimic it on other builds
Thanks for replies all, guess ill have to wait for now, I heard someone say there is a program I think called apps2sd but havnt tried it, and I havnt found it yet (I havnt looked that hardly tbh, been too busy and only looked on marketplace).
Thanks again
I hate making a new thread and i'm not sure if it's against the rules but there doesn't seem to be a lot of traffic going into Q&A. I'm having a really bad problem with my DInc which could end up costing me $300 if I have to buy a new phone. I was just wondering if you guys would mind taking a look at it and see if you can figure it out.
Thanks.
thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=916149
Fixed! I went out and bought a new class 6 SD card and used berserkers method to go back to stock. Then I just rooted again and installed the ROM I wanted. Thank all of you for your help!
What exactly is the problem?
Glancing thru the thread linked in your question....
If you are having trouble w/ the SD card, see if yours is wonky, then try another if it is wonky....
- With the device on, unmount the existing SD card, power the device down, remove the SD, copy/back it up to your PC, reformat it to FAT32, put it back in the device, d/l a ROM and flash it.
Fwiw - if your question were more detailed and not asking folk to read a thread dating back to 2006, you may get more response - just sayin /;
I think the thread he wanted to post was actually this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835552
Then again I'm not the poster so I don't know what his actual intentions were.

Ok - Advice remains the same - it sounds like the SD card - unmount, back up, reformat, d/l, then flash something else.
Absent that working, try another SD card.
I'm on a Mac so I cannot reformat the sd card to fat32. I tried with my other SD card already and the phone won't recognize it and my computer doesn't either.
But furthermore, i do not see how the SD card can be the problem. It can install cyanogen just fine. I can't install virtuous or use the PB31IMG.zip though.
Why would it be able to install cyanogen & MIUI and not virtuous or stock?

Its wacked, I dont understand either why most phones will format sd cards as FAT and not FAT32, however it is my understanding that you will need fat thirty two for hboot to properly recognize the file structure as the file name is also case sensitive. For example if the.ZIP is like that it won't work as the file name must be with a lower case extension. Sometimes even on my pc, I have had to rename the file with all capital letters then rename properly for hboot to see it.
You can install ROMs all you want with FAT or FAT32 and clockworkmod recovery as it supports both types of file structures.
And why you could load one rom and not another? I' m not sure, what is the particular version of virth your trying to get running? What versions are you trying for the,... hboot , clockwork mod, & radio? And what is your goal,?, the most recent release of the vRom?

how do you apply this.. just flash it or do you have to rename it and all of that
it has to be named PB31IMG.. it also must be on the root of an SD card formatted as fat32 (not just fat).

thats not working i formated my sd card along time ago... and when i boot into hboot it just says something about parsing it and doesnt let me update...
I dont mean to insult your intelligence so dont take it that way.. are you sure you are fat32? You can format an SD card in many different file formats.
Connect your phone to a computer and click on the SD card within windows. at the bottom it will tell you your file format. I had mine in fat (not 32) and it would not work. I copied the data to my computer, formatted the card to fat32 and copied it all back and it worked like a charm.
As long as you have a fat32 formatted SD and this file (http://dougpiston.com/files/Recovery/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-inc_PB31IMG.zip) renamed to PB136IMG.zip in the root of your sd card Hboot will install the file and you will downgrade to 2.5.1.2. I did mine on Monday.
Let us know if you get it working.

Not to sound like stupid but how do you confirm this? Ive been flashing for over a year with little issue so Ive never really checked. I formatted the card with the phone when I got it but nothing further.

Sorry for the confusion
Oh gotcha, my bad and yes Im fat32 but my phone isnt seeing the update. Its on the root of the sd card and renamed properly

I am not sure if it is case sensitive.... i would make it so that it does match the case shown in my post before that. I did mine that way.
Also, when you are booting the phone with that file in the root of the sd card, you have to hold the volume down button and power button at the same time until you get into hboot.
Sorry if you already knew this... its just that there isnt really anything else to it. Let me know if you are still having trouble.

There seems to be a lot of (out)dated information on the web about Android and sd-card formats. Would somebody please point me in the right direction (link to Google, CM Wiki, some other authority, or your own personal experience)?
Should I format my (entire) sd-card to ext2?
Can I format the entire card to ext2? (Is it supported by CM, AOSP, AOKP?)
Does the answer to the above questions depend on the rom in use?
I'm aware of the difference between ext2, 3 and 4. I'm mostly wondering if it's still required to have at least on primary fat partition, and whether that trade off is worth it.
Thanks.
i wouldnt do that since you dont have a SD card for the nexus.
you could ruin the entire partition and then you have a paperweight.

Wow. Thanks for pointing that out to me. I'm about to get my Nexus. (I'm preparing for it, in part, with this post.) I somehow overlooked that it doesn't support SD cards.
Hi everybody. Not sure where to post this question, so please move if this is not the most suitable place.
Yesterday I bought a new 32GB microSDHC card casas 10. I then proceeded to partition it, creating one FAT32 partition and one EXT2 partition using the Minitool Partition Wizard on Windows XP. I then copied a few flashable zips with ROMs on them to try out.
This morning, as I set out to flash a new ROM, I noticed on the instructions that I needed a third SWAP partition. So I went back to the drawing board and created one. So far so good.
Except that then a few strange things happened:
* Partition wizard, after giving me the thumbs up, did not recognize the 2 partitions it had supposedly created (I restarted the program, unplugged and re-plugged the card, etc.). So I "un-partitioned" (sic) and re-partitioned. I hope this didn't screw anything up. Only later did I read that this was normal because XP does not recognize EXT2 or SWAP, which is why the wizard was showing it all as an "unallocated" lump.
* Although windows saw the files on the SD card, it did not allow me to transfer new any new ones. The system told me the device was not ready and asked me whether I wanted to format. After trying a few times, I ended up accepting, but the formatting process failed. ...or maybe it was at first and then no more, can't remember. Thing is, there are no more files on the card (which is fine, no need to recover them)
These things didn't happen in this particular order, rather, it was a going back and forth with both issues, including a request from partition manager to re-start, only to get a message saying partitioning was not possible because the file system had changed (???). It did go through upon retrying though (no re-start required)
Now:
1. partition wizard sees the sd card, but windows explorer doesn't.
2. partition wizard sees it as fully used up (no free memory left), even though there is nothing on it
3. partition wizard found the whole card to have errors in every sector but won't give me options to correct them.
4. windows is still unable to either format or explore the sd card
Wiping did not help. Formatting and resizing are not an option. I could delete the partition, but at this point I'm afraid of what that would do. No need to recover anything, but I would hate to have to go out again and get a new card.
Can you please help me?
Thanks!
ok, spent some more time scouring the web, and something occured to me... could it be that by doing a DoD wipe with Minitool partition wizard I re-wrote the partition (which is why it is full) and also protected it (which is can't re-format)?
of course, that doesn't answer the question of why windows XP (and windows 7 on my other machine) won't recognize the card....
PS. apologies for the double post , but seeing as there were 36 views and no replies, i thought I'd let people see that there was additional information here... hope that's alright
Your problem could be windows since when it sees a USB or HDD with ext2 it thinks its corrupted and asks to format and fails...
from what i know ext2 is used for linux so i would try your program on a linux distro. i could be wrong though
it might not help using windows xp
good luck
After reading both of your posts I have no idea what type of device you have. That is the first step, check out your devices General or Q&A forums.
Look at the top of the browser window, see where it says Find Your Device... type in the first few letters of the name and see if it doesn't come up there. The first and best source of information like you are asking for is in there, or if you can't find it by searching, it is the best place to ask.
Also, since you are new to XDA, I would suggest giving this guide a read as it may answer some of your questions and help you find out where to look for the answers.
[GUIDE] How to be a New User (and not a noob)
Thx. The device is an htc wildfire s, but I don't see how that is relevant.
What I have is a microsdhc card that has no data on it yet is full.
Although the card has been used, it suddenly requires formatting. However, neither win xp, nor win 7, nor partition wizaed, nor my camera nor Recovery on my phone are able to successfully format.
Now when I plug it into either PC (win xp and windows 7) the system no longer recognizes it when I go into My PC, whereas partition wizard (running on both those systems) can.
And now I wonder whether the DoD wipe of the partition could be to blame...
Isn't it fair to sy that the issue s device-neutral?
I think your problem may be Windows, because when it sees a USB or hard drive with ext2 that damage to the required format and failure Check your equipment in general

thanks for this. In the end, I gave up and bought a new card, formatted it properly from the start, and am a happy camper
...except of course for the fact that the total for the 2 sd cards adds up to half the cost fo my phone...
