about titanium backup

so i want to change again my rom again but now i have a lot of things on my phone that important to me
so i would like to use titanium backup but im not quit sure how to use properly
so can somebody explain to me how do i backup everything
and when i mean everything i mean like saves from games and sms and music and pictures and more
so please i need your help

Using Titanium Backup:
1. Menu -> Batch -> Select RUN Backup all user apps + System data
2. The backup will be in the folder on ur SD card. Copy and save it in case u earse the entire SD card
Using Recovery:
To backup enitre ROM which ever you are currently using. Reboot into recovery..
Currently I use Clockword Mod, so I know how to do it only by this one
1. Reboot into recovery mode.
2.Under Backup & Restore do the nandroid Backup which backsup the currently using ROM with data.
3. This will also be under the folder ClockwordMod in ur SD card backit up in case u do SD card formatting
For SMS, Call Logs & Pictures I use McAfee Wavesecure which I bought long back and backsup all the data.. not sure about Titanium backup for SMS & stuff...

Excuse a newbie question, but doesn't the nandroid recovery just take a snapshot of the current setup with ROM and all?
How do you use it with a new ROM?

You use the nandroid if the new rom doesnt work or you of some other reason want to go back to the old rom.

Don't backup System Data if you are changing from one ROM to another, you will invariably get problems backing up system files that won't work smoothly with the new ROM. Just backup user apps.

No, that's fine. You can back both up and just restore apps and app data with no problem. I've never backed up system data I really don't see the point, I guess you could backup and restore to the same ROM, but i'd rather just start afresh each time.

Being able to backup system data selectively isn't a bad idea, i.e. Wi-Fi access points and literally one or two other things, if someone is after a system backup this is where nandroid comes into play, in my opinion.

I do agree backup for user apps. Also I would prefer Nandroid to restore the old ROM fully. Since I have been using some CM7 RC builds & also nightly builds.. i started to restore system data as well, which literally helps me to have all settings as well.
Also he can run Restore apps with data alone...
But it is upto OP which method he prefers..

This is for sure, things like bookmarks, user dictionary, wifi are nice to be able to just restore.

I may have gotten confused....
is there a method to selectively backup / restore bookmarks and wifi (wep/wpa passphrases) ?

Open the app and select Backup/Restore and long press on the system data you want to backup. You should exercise caution and not backup system data that will potentially disrupt another ROM. Wi-Fi Access Points, User Dictionary etc can all be found in there. Hope this helps.

Or the way I did it was just go under the backup/restore tab and scroll till you find what you want to backup ie. Bookmarks, wifi, etc then you are just backing up what you want and need

I have a question regarding Titanium that I hope you can help with...
I've just upgraded to the Gingerbread RUU, so I lost root and can't get it back, or frankly want to have it back, but I've backed up a number of apps with Titanium Backup, and is there any way to reinstall them?
They're all saved to my SD card, and Titanium Backup obviously refuses to work.
I can't and don't want to get root back, so is there any way to manually use these backups, or use them with another program?

You can recover the apps by searching the TitanuimBackup folder and extracting the APKs from the Zip files. It's obviously not possible to recover the data as it's zipped up in a tarball and it requires Superuser rights to access if using Titanium, however I don't know that it's not possible to manually replace the data. If you unzip the tarball and extract the folder to your desktop. If it's the BBC News app for example the folder should look like this after you extract it.

I don't know if you can access Data/Data from the phones internal memory without root, I am using Root Explorer. Try with Astro, I am guessing you can read/write to Data/Data without having S-Off as I am not getting prompted to switch to R/W to delete files (I have Root and S-Off).
If you can read and write to Data/Data without root and S-Off you can manually copy and paste the data over after installing the app, it will take ages to do if you've got any number of apps and I am not ever sure it will work, but I suppose it's worth a go.
I hope this makes sense, it makes semi sense to me as I read it back!

[Q] Lose data with flashing a new rom?

I have several apps and data on my Desire... Currently I am running a MIUI-rom. I already made a backup of the rom... If I decide to flash a new rom, does that mean I will lose all my data, like saves from games and stuff like that?

so if you dont backup them you will lose them probably
TitatniumBackup can save your user apps + data, so this will not be lost
but system data(wifi spots, contacts, bookmarks, ...) could also be backuped but with care!
if you change the android version most of the system apps change and also if you change rom type it will probably not work.
i can tell you how i do save all my data.
1. i do a complete nandroidbackup (if you want 2 go back from where you came)
2. a Titanium´Backup (sometimes system data could also be restored)
3. i use MyPhoneExplorer to backup my Contacts
4. MyBackup Root, to save my Sms/mms and other stuff (exept from Contact wich are put in the Google Account i like the app
Sounds a little bit much, but most of the apps have advantages at some point but also flaws on a other point!
ps.: yep i know most of them could be stored in the cloud but i like it lokal

I use the Google backup feature when registering my account on first boot.
Last time, all my user apps and data restored, plus wifi profiles, system settings etc (even my wallpaper) were reapplied. I did nandroid and TiBu also but didn't use them at all!
To use this you could nandroid backup, wipe everything, restore and check the options re backup when registering. Then wipe everything again, flash rom of choice, and wait. You may need a reboot for all the changes to take effect!

that kind of datas are stored in SDCard, so if you don't format it, you should not have problems, but always do a backup before flashing

what to back up

wanting to install a new rom but not sure what to back up. do i use titanium backup for apps n data and rom manager to back up my rom? or a nandroid backup. will that back up everythung messages, pictures ect. also if i dont like the rom i install can i use rom manager to restore my stock rom? or do i use the nandroid restore and will my homescreen be exactly the same?
if any1 could shed some light into a good debloated sence rom it would be shound other than hensmod5

sms -> sms backup and restore
contacts -> back them up to google if you haven't already
use the same apps/google sync to restore everything after installing your new rom.
pictures are stored on your sd card, and aren't touched by ROM.
always nandroid backup before making big changes like a new ROM, either from rom manager or directly in recovery. if you want to go back just wipe everything and nandroid restore from recovery, everything will be EXACTLY the same state you left it: apps, texts, homescreens...
you can even take your nandroid backups from your sd card in clockworkmod/backup and put them on PC for safekeeping, just in case.

Yes exactly what you said provided your rooted.
Titanium backup - apps
Rom manager (clockwork recovery) - complete system backup that you can restore should anything go wrong or you wanna go back to how things are now.
Also you could sync your Calender and contacts with your Google account, goto settings then accounts and sync and make sure its selected under your Google account.
Your pictures and vids are on your SD, so will be unaffected.

PS - SENSELESS by germzii is a great debloated rom, very fast and loads of space.

U can sms backup pro for sms back up,for pics,music videos u can use box as it provide 50GB of storage.for settings and apps as said by the other members use titanium backup.

Best way to transfer roms with all apps& data.

I would love to try different roms and kernels cause I'm on aokp b34 with the kernel that comes with it, but if I use a different kernels I get duplicate texts don't know why. But I wanna try gummy but I wanna keep all texts (SMS/mms) and apps plus the data with the apps. So what would be the best way to go about that?

Titanium Backup for the Apps/data.
Go SMS Pro to backup all your SMS/MMS messages to your sdcard. Then copy the TitaniumBackup and GOSMS folders off your phone to your computer.
Wipe data/cache/dalvik to your heart's content and load up Gummy 1.0.1, Gapps (and 4.0.4 radios if so desired) and enjoy.

Except you don't have to copy your backups to your PC, its all saved in your "external SD card" so when you wipe system,boot,data,cache, and dalvik cache it doesn't touch your backups since it doesn't wipe anything in the external SD card

Or you could get "MyBackUP Root" and back up your sms/mms..
i back up all my apps/data with Titanium Back up.. and use mybackup for sms and other stuff..
Dont backup/restore system apps with TB

I'm about to move to a Nexus from an HD2. What concerns me is not the app data that Titanium backs up, but all the other miscellaneous folders that apps create willy-nilly all over the SD card. Which of *those* do I need to copy over? anyone ever make up a chart for that?
Guess I'll end up copying everything just to be safe.

Can't you nandroid than do a advanced restore of the apps from your nandroid

Well the virtual SDcard isn't wiped when you clear data for a new ROM flash so don't worry about those.
And if you're backing up with Titanium Backup anyways, it'll backup everything relevant.

Here is my process for flashing and restoring. I don't like to keep to much stuff on my phone. Security reasons. If my phone gets jacked I can use lookout to wipe my phone and don't have to worry about some random files still being there.
Pictures - In the cloud on Picasa/Google Photos (No pictures stored directly on phone)
Music - all 700 albums in the Cloud - Some are available offline
Google Drive - All random documents and files needed o my phone
DropBox - TiBU app backups and android related stuff
PreFlash - Prep
1. Use TitaniumBackup Pro to backapp Apps/Data (I also back it up to DropBox)
2. I additionally backup Wallpaper, Wifi Access Points, and Accounts in TiBU
2. Create TitaniumBackup flashable zip
3. I use SMS Backup+ to backup SMS/MMS messages its cool because it backs it up to your email as a SMS label, so you can read SMS from GMail.
Flashing New Rom
4. Flash New ROM, GApps, and Kernel (wipe, etc...the usual)
5. Reboot and Let Rom settle (Don't setup google account yet, just skip everything)
6. Reboot into Recovery
7. Flash TiBU Flashable zip you made to install TiBU to your phone
Restore
1. Use TiBu to batch restore Apps/Data. Do not restore system because this will cause connectivity issues...aka "Grey bars"
2. Use TiBu to restore Wifi Access Points, Wallpaper, and Accounts
3. Use SMS Backup+ to restore SMS/MMS and Call Logs
4. Check accounts to make sure everything is copacetic
5. Reboot

What do you guys do for Wallet? Do you clear Wallet data before switching ROMs?

I always back things up to my pc before flashing in case of boot loops. Unlikely I know and usually fixable but still a pita, and doing a backup to the pc is easy.

Has anybody had issues with MyBackUp Pro not restoring playlists and home screens? Never had an issue with previous phones (Gingerbread-Sensation/Vibrant).
When I restore the playlist, it shows in the music player, but 0 songs.
When restoring home screen, after the reboot, it actually boots into all blank screens (including dock).
Just wanted to see if anybody else ran into this, contacted the dev, waiting for response, figured I'd ask.

I want to hop to a new ROM, but it is a real pain to restore everything. Is there a quick way?
I am on Wompasaurus. Before was LJ1 stock rooted then MA7 DeOdexed then Womp. I want to try some more but hours and hours it takes to get everything running is ridiculous.
I have Titanium Backup, TWRP(GooManager), ROM Manager, ROM Toolbox and SManager. If I need something else, I get it.
SIDE NOTE: I was able to backup the 4.2 Gallery. But Titanium backup cannot find the 4.2 Camera.

I use Titanium Backup and Backup Your Mobile. Titanuim backup for apps and data. Backup Your Mobile for call logs, sms, mms, user data dictionary and wifi networks. I believe ROM Toolbox will do all of that and more. However just make sure that you save your backups to external sd and not internal sd as you will lose them if you do a full wipe of internal memory when you switch ROMs.

Extsd is your external sd which is where you want to keep your backups as well as always keeping a copy some where else like a desktop.

In case anyone is reading my thread for help / ideas, I figured out a shortcut.
When every app is working, use TB Batch Action -user apps. Save this to some place safe. Before doing a full wipe re-backup apps with changing data . i,e. games

After you get your ROM setup exactly like you want it go into twrp go to backup and make a nandroid backup. Backup your data, boot, and system I believe they are. (The first three options) choose the option to compress the backup as it will save it the exact same way just save space by compressing it and shaving 40-50% off the size.
Then after it says backup wad successful. Reboot system. Use ROM toolbox and backup all your user apps+data. Then go to your contacts choose export to sd.. Make a"V card" export all your contacts to your sd. Then download sms backup&restore app.. backup all your texts. Then after these steps are done reboot to recovery (TWRP) go to wipe and wipe (assuming you already have other ROM zips on your sd or external sd saved and ready to flash) wipe cache, Dalvik cache, system, factory reset, system, factory reset.. In that order. Back out to main TWRP menu. .
Choose Install and install your ROM zip of your choice. After it installs successfully and reboots setup your phone and get to home screen. Go to market install rom toolbox again. After that is installed open and scroll to backups. Restore all Apps+data that you want. While that's restoring open contacts choose import from sd.. choose vcard files... choose the one you just made and restore...
Once your apps restore open sms backup&restore them restore your texts... setup any thing else you want/need widgets settings options etc..
After the new ROM is setup to your liking. Scroll back to the top and repeat till you have solid Nandroid backups (Twrp backups) of all the ROM'S you want.
Then anytime you want to change between then you reboot to recovery (twrp) wipe with above said method then hit restore choose the ROM you want to restore to and voila you'll literally be where you left off to a T even the same messages and websites still open... Only thing you might want to do between nandroid flashes is backup any NEW apps you downloaded recently. Our make a new backups of text messages with sms backup&restore if you want your texts always up to date...
