Cm7 remove hotspot notification? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to remove it? I'm using the wireless tether app because I like that it gives me a data count for each session and access control, but when I start tethering I get the stock wifi hotspot notification too...is there a way to disable that?

You could use Root Explorer, or similar app, and rename wifi hotspot so it doesn't boot. Ex: wifi hotspot.apk to wifi hotspot.bak.
Or, you could use Titanium Backup to freeze wifi hotspot. That would disable it after a reboot.

That sounds like it could work but I can't find what app it would be...I don't have a wifi hotspot.apk...
Anyone else?

Ditto
I noticed this when I first downloaded CM7 but since then I've upgraded to CM7.0.3 and I've everytime I run Wireless Tether I don't get the wifi hotspot thing showing up in the notification area. Which version of CM7 are you running?

I'm running 7.0.3 inc

Bump ............

To the top again...can anyone help me out with this?

Up up up, up up up.
Can someone help? I had two promising replies and now nothing since...there has gotta be a way to fix this I would hope.

To the top. . .

Has anyone been able to figure this out?

Tether or Sprint Mobile Hot Spot

Hello everyone, I cannot connect to my tether or mobile hotspot, The device or laptop picks up the tether and connects but no internet. On my evo it will show usage being active but On the device or laptop it keeps saying limited connectivity. Has anyone had this problem? How did you solve it?
I have the same problem too on miui rom
I've never used hot spot, but in WiFi tether, check and see if access control is on or off. It you have it on and want it on, then make sure you give permission to the device accessing it.
If not try rebooting the phone. If that fails, clear the data from the WiFi tether app so it loads the binary files again the next time you open the app.
One of these always works for me.

Are you using the app or the built in hotspot?
When I open Tether, Hotspot comes on, on its own or at least the hotspot app opens up (but doesn't start up).

Oopsie....hit the thanks button by mistake. lol
Ok, when you flashed Myn's rom, did you keep the stock kernel or did you flash another kernel after the rom? I think it comes with the stock HTC kernel which won't allow the wireless tether to work.

Question about hotspot hack

I know I cant install the deodexed hacked hotspot on my stock ROM, but would it be possible for me to pull the hacked hotspot app out of one of strongsteve's odexed ROMs and install it? Anybody try it?

If you can fix the browser lag what we were getting that would be great.
Thanks for digging that up for me. Don't think I'm gonna try it though, don't want to deal with the browser lag. Wireless Tether (the app) works for me, it just keeps broadcasting an SSID even after I stop tethering. Gotta reboot to stop it. I'll put up with that for now until a better solution comes out.

Which Wifi tether app are you using? I have several good ones. You are rooted stock right?.... goes to read back posts...full stock or rooted MetalHead? If you are rooted stock I have Wifi Tether 3.1 beta 6, beta 99, and beta 100. When the network is saturated, sometimes it works better than my paid for 4g Hotspot

I'm rooted stock w/cwm. I'm using wireless tether 3.1 beta 6. I've tried a couple other ones and even tried barnacle, all with the same results. They all work, but they all keep broadcasting an SSID (no data though) until reboot.

WIFI Tethering on T-mobile

Do you know of any settings to have wifi tethering work without the hotspot plan?
With my old HTC sensation I just had to create a new apn with (epc.tmobile.com) to make it work, but with the GIII this is a no go....
If you are rooted...this works great:

Foxfi In the Play Store. No root needed just read the description to make sure it supports your device.
Thanks, will try Foxfi and let you know if works.
Thanks
Foxfi not working for me on T-Mobile.
Any other solution for not rooted?
Thanks

Look over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766155&highlight=hotspot
several us (at least on verizon) seem to be able to do it just with toggles. Those with other carriers let us know if it works for you...
Thanks for the info,
I have tried the widgets option but still no go.
Still getting the T-Mobile Hotspot signup page...
anyone able to get this working?
I've also noticed this to be annoying. My HTC Sensation would tether no problem on the same data package. Now T-Mobile has it locked down somehow. Hmm.

Do this, go to Google Play and download (WiFi Tether For Root Users) open the app go to settings, 1) Change device-Profile to Generic ICS. 2) Change Setup-Method to Netd (master). Now go back and click on the big WiFi icon to start tethering, soon as the system finds the device pull down the notification and authorize it, make sure the Access-Control is enabled., your're all set, good luck.

I guess this will encourage him to ROOT, one of the perks you get being rooted.
T mobile can be a real pain in the ass with blocking tethering. I don't believe the app matters best way I know to get around it is to change the user agent on the computer and do not use internet explorer. I believe chrome and firefox have plugins for that.
I tried FoxFi on a non-rooted stock t999, doesn't work. Sends out the wifi signal, but the computer never actually connects to it. Keeps giving me some kind of error when trying to connect to wifi.
Using the built in tether wifi option, I can connect to the wifi being supplied by the sgs3, but any web activity takes me to the t-mobile hotspot sign up page.
OP use firefox, not chrome to tether. seriously.
and you can try downloading the 'tether' app from the clockworkmod website. google it.
I tether my nexus 7 from my sgs3 with foxfi and its really simple. Just make sure u install pdanet on the device u want to tether. I'm doing a tether with Bluetooth.

On my S3, I only need to turn on tethering and it works. I small on t-mobile S3 not rooted and I don't have any additional tethering on my plan.

Very interesting, i use wifi tether for root users and after using for awhile i get a push message saying i need to stop tethering or it will be blocked, and then i recieve another saying it has been blocked, its a push message so im wondering if t-mobile has a app hidden inside the touchwiz rom to make sure it cant tether... sigh
Hi!
I just installed Foxfi app. on my phone. I noticed there is also an app. called "Foxfi AddOn" and according to the description it provides some optional features to the Foxfi application.
Has anyone installed this app? The reason I am asking this question is because I noticed that by agreeing to install this app., personal information is accessed ("general info about what you are doing with the phone, potentially including personal or private info").
The above quote I got when I press to "install" the app., so I would appreciate any feedback/advice on installing this app. Thanks!

It just adds a proxy to FoxFi, which still didn't work on my SG3 for wifi (didn't try bluetooth).

[Q] Hotspot toggle widget (AT&T)

Is there any way to get a hotspot toggle widget to work on the AT&T optimus G pro?
I do have a plan that allows tethering and my phone is rooted, however the toggle widget that worked fine on my note fails to initialize the hotspot on this phone (though it will disable it).
nope. Had my question up for a few days with no good responses. Hotspot might grab someone easier than WAP though so who knows.

No luck, I get the same error as I did with hotspot toggle which is what I normally use.
The specific error is a white triangle with a red exclamation point which says "Tethering Failed Tethering is not allowed for downloaded apps"
HD widgets has a widget u can assign to anything but i havent seen one that turns it on or off in one click, only ever takes u to the hotspot settings so u can turn it on or off

That's what I have at the moment, though you don't need any app to do that, you just add a shortcut, shortcut > settings shortcut > mobile hotspot, but it's a pain having to do 2 steps for what should only take one.
Is there any root method to disable the at&t tethering plan check? I'm betting that's the only thing that's causing it to not work and if I can disable that check it should work fine.
Isn't that what the existing fix does? Eliminate the check?

Ooh, I'll try that out and hopefully I can use the toggle afterwards. It's so annoying that they have it set up that you need to have a rooted phone and change setting just to use a toggle for something I pay for.
That fix is meant to allow tethering without paying for it (which is what I've done) but even after that change I have not found a way to toggle that setting directly. One of those things that may never change without a new ROM....

Wi-Fi Tether

Since rooting, I have been unable to use the native Hotpot or any of the tethering apps which requires root. Has anyone found a solution for tethering?

on my m8 running viper....I just changed a value in the default.xml file (there was a few versions that forgot to enable the native hotspot for free)....that did the trick....I don't see why it would be terribly different on the m9 if you are S-Off, unlocked and rooted.
You stock or running Viper?

I'm pretty sure the issue here was over debloating... .. the stock tether guard doesn't like being frozen or removed before it's disabled in the xml policy. To be honest.. even after disabling tether guard support I always leave the app remain.
We will know more when the OP gets back home from his trip.
Stock rooted here and it works fine.
Not having root, I still haven't found a way to use the built in hotspot--however--if you disable tethering guard, you will be able to use the built in Bluetooth tether. The major downsides being only being able to connect to one device at a time and download speed is right around 1 mbps.

Yeah, I was googling for a while...
So I tried Foxfi and it didn't work, said it was unable to use wifi tether on new updated system (something like that). But then I looked at other apps to try in the Play Store and saw "Free Tether Unlocker". It only had a 3.5 star rating but I figured why not try it. IT WORKED!!! Was still able to send a text and make a call too.
So anyone on a Verizon device who needs to get wifi tether working, just use Free Tether Unlocker and then Wifi Tether Router and that should do it!
