[Q] I have a Simple question - Defy General

As my name suggests I'm new to this stuff but I need some help...all I want to do is install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046027
I'm just not sure of the installation instructions..
Its says "Download and restore the Nandroid backup."
Does this mean download the 200mb zipfile ? If so how do you 'restore' it ?
I think I know how to wipe the data and get into bootloader mode (i've already installed froyo 2.2.2 with RSDlite using a large sbf file but it looks just like 2.1)
Also when you 'flash' something is that usually with RSDlite ?
I hope i'm making some sense here, any help very much appreciated.

I think you need to restore then wipe follow with flashing sbf of the same firmware. Restore using custom recovery and flashing with rsd4.9.
P/s: are you the hero of PSP modding world? As your name the same with the guy in psp forum.
Sent from my awesome Moto Defy - XDA Premium

Make folder name \goapkrev\backup on your sdcard than unzip Nandroid in the backup folder.....And than from custom recovery..Flash nandroid from restore option and than boot with Fixed SBF from RSD Lite..
Sorry for English..

Still cant get it to work, thanks anyway.

Not able to make backup in CWM v2.5.1.3

Good evening to all of you geeks
(Gonna try to explain short since im not that good in english..)
As the title says im not able to make a backup of my system any more..
In CWM trying to make a backup this error is shown
"Backing up boot...
Backing up recovery...
Backing up system...
Can`t mount /system/ !"
Running CM7 Gingerbread PNK14, was about to update to PNK20 but wanted to make a backup first.
I`ve made plenty of backups before so i really don`t know whats the problem.
Any one have a solution ?
Thanks!
I had a lot of problems using CM7 with CWM v2.5.1.3. U need CWM 3.x
You need to update your Recovery to CWM 3.
As Android 2.3 utilities an EXT4 file system you need a recovery that supports it.
Ok thanks
Got a link to download ? can`t find it :S

Flashing nandroid img/zip files causes clockwork recovery to just hang

So I've rooted my phone, got the latest defy clock work recovery thats in the clockwork thread, I've booted into recovery mode and made a backup.
Now I've downloaded a 3.4.3-11 zipped nandroid backup with the img files etc, but when I try installing from them it just sits there doing nothing.
The progress bar stops animating and it looks as if its hung, I left it for 15 minutes and nothing happened so I pulled the battery, phone restarts and boots fine.
I've tried multiple images and they all cause clockwork recovery to hang when attempting to install them.
Can anyone suggest what I might be doing wrong?
Using everything listed in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12122439&postcount=10
from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=993402
edit: If it toggle verification on it says this
E:signature verifications failed
installation aborted
what should I do?
no one ever had this issue before?
Found someone else who also has this problem.
can anyone out there help ?
kind of confused here... What's hanging, CWM? or RSD? You said that flashing SBF causes clockwork to hang.....Thing is..... clockwork don't flash SBF's.
You need RSD for SBF's, clockwork will restore nandroid or apply unsigned .zip updates among many other things but no SBF

Sorry I meant nandroid zip files with the .img files inside of it, not sbf.
So yes clockwork hangs when trying to install zip file with img files in it.
What would cause this to happen and how should I rectify it? I would post in the clockwork thread but I dont have enough posts.
The issue was I was trying to apply an update.zip when what I wanted to do was restore a nandroid backup, being as it didn't give me the option to select any folder other than the clockwork folder I got confused.
Followed these instructions and all is well
the method i could understand:
maybe wrong, i'm warning you..
maybe you could ask someone who real capable of this.
i'm just trying to answer..
Preparing files needed, needed when you want to go back to 2.51
-download SBF of your stock (2.51)
-got root, install custom recovery, restart.
-when phone is ready go to custom recovery app, and install recovery then reboot.
-and then create nandroid backup from custom recovery.
Upgrading froyo with downgrade-ability
-download fixed SBF and nandroid backup of this froyo version.
-from custom recovery, wipe all cache.
-and then restore nandroid backup of the froyo rom
-restart and IMMEDIATELY go to bootloader. immediately press and hold VOL.UP+POWER after you press restart system on custom recovery
-on bootloader, flash the fixed SBF of that froyo rom with RSD Lite 4.9, and make sure you already download motorola driver...
Downgrading:
if you want to go back to 2.51,
-got root, install custom recovery, restart.
-go to custom recovery, and then RESTORE your 2.51 nandroid backup
-restart and IMMEDIATELY go to bootloader. immediately press and hold VOL.UP+POWER after you press restart system on custom recovery
-on bootloader, flash the fixed SBF of your stock 2.51.

maybe just another issue pertaining the restoring of nandroid backup. what is the issue if i get a md5 sum mismatch? i did all the thing, flashed sbf, root, wipe and when goes to restore, it just have the md5 sum mismatch. i'm using kb7sqi recovery
Have u checked if usb debugging is off? After rooting u should disable it.
Sent from my MB525 using Tapatalk
what are you doing to cause md5 mismatch??? You go into recovery and suddenly you are greeted with md5 mismatch or is it when you are trying to restore a nandroid? Or is it while applying an update?... Anyhow, if it's wile restoring a nandroid, be sure that a nandroid.MD5 file is included with the package you downloaded. If not you could try advanced restore or find a package with a md5 file or recalculate md5 yourself

Glad you got it sorted.... I have flashed almost every rom out there. Many many many sbf's. I have bootlooped a few times while experimenting, but always bring it back from the dead. These phones are honestly pretty resilient to user error. As long as the instructions for flashing a particular rom are followed exactly as instructed.. It ALWAYS works. When things go bad boot into stock recovery, wipe, pull battery, hold vol+ while inserting battery to get into bootloader then flash an appropriate sbf and youre back

[Q] Quick question regarding nandroid back ups

Hi all.
I am going to experiment with a few roms today. Despite Motorolas best efforts to screw the phone with there locked bootloader policy at the moment i have my phone functioning just about perfectly mainly thanks to the super work of the hackers and modders on here. I have a couple of camera hacks allowing me to use the search button to take pics and the 848 wide video mode enabled. I also have the cpu overclocked at 1100 and it runs super stable and gives me the best battery life i have ever had on an android handset. Basically as it is now it works like a dream (how it should have come out of the box some may say) and therefore before i flash anything else i would just like clarification on a couple of points.
So anyways to get where i am at the moment i flashed the full sbf of 3.4.2.117 which i believe is the uk leak of froyo. Now if i start to flash other sbfs and nandroids but want to revert back to my phone state as it is now is it simply a case of going into recovery and restoring the nandroid or will i also have to flash once again the sbf of 3.4.2.117 and then restore the nandroid?
I am just a little unsure and would like to know before i start messing around with it so if you know the answer please let me know.
Thanks
ok now here comes the concept of fixed sbf.....(without cg31 & 39),
root your phone install 2nd int....(..its safer than a condom ...)
wipe data and cache via 2nd int, nandroid and fixed sbf...and voila you are on a new version.
...procedures on various pages...i would recommend the FAQ on CM7...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
yes...you can always flash the full sbf files on froyo...just dont go full flash on gingerbread 2.3.4 leak...you cannot revert back to froyo.....
...check out the version for various cg in your sbf and if they are same as yours original sbf then you can easily downgrade to your original sbf .http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11195138&postcount=3
hi thanks for your reply. While there was a lot of useful information there i dont think you actually answered my question. I have already lost downgrade ability to 2.1 have no intention of flashing 2.3 and am running 2.2 using the uk rom listed above. I simply want to know what the procedure is for being able to install my nandroid back up of the phone exactly as it is now.
Ok now if you want the phone as it is now you have to go to recovery restore your nandroid and then flash fixed sbf of your current nandroid if your upgrading to another rom do the same thing install the nandroid and fixed sbf so you don't lose downgrade ability
hi as i said i have already lost the ability to downgrade so does that still apply?
please forgive my ignorance but did you actually answer my question and the answer has flown over my head?
i just want the simplest way to get back to where i am at the moment after i start flashing different sbfs and nandroids.
please understand i wont be flashing any 2.3 roms only 2.2 and all i want to do is be able to retsire my current nandroid backup if i choose to
have to say as much as i love the defy if motorola continue with there locked boot loader then i wont be buying another of there handsets which is a great shame as they do make some really good phones. have never known such a complicated system just to flash a few roms. even using a gold card on my old hero and desire was simpler.
with nandroid + fixed sbf , you can even go to 2.1, 2.2 , 2.3 and back to any whr....i was on 2.3 came back on 2.2 again gone to 2.3
wow. it is quite hard to get a straight answer on these forums even though it seems some of you are trying which i do appreciate. There is some real good information in this threasd but unless i am being extremely dim i dont think any of it has actually given me the answer i need.
i have already said i have lost the ablity to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 becuase i flashed a full 2.2 sbf. When i did try to go back to 2.1 i bricked the phone.
All i want to know is the process for restoring my nandroid.
do i have to flash the same sbf i am using now and then restore the nandroid or can i simply flash any 2.2 sbf and it will still work.
If anyone knows then please just let me know
If you re read my post carefully you will understand its not magic to restore your nandroid go to custom recovery and click restore and then flash the fixed sbf of the current Rom finished
i'm very confused either, after all those reading here and also on other threads
flashing & restoring, seams to be real pain
i'm on new 2.2 CEE stock firmware, i want to flash CM7 or Barebones for example, but i need to have the ability to return back to where i am now (2.2 stock)
so, to summarize everything:
1) root current firmware, install 2ndintdefy, reboot & nandroid backup my current state
2) wipe everything & install new rom (CM7 or other)
3) wipe everything again & what now......flash fixed sbf of my initial firmware, or no need?
for the restore operation:
1) wipe everything & restore my stock firmware nandroid backup (?)
2) flash fixed sbf after restoring nandroid backup? or no need
any help would be greatly appreciated
Quick question 2
Hi guys, I just one to know this:
I'm on CM7 (one nightly before RC0), and I want to flash nordic sbf before updating to RC0, so can you tell me if this will work (?):
- Nandroid backup
- Flash nordic sbf
- Nandroid Restore
- Flash RC0 update
Will it work? I just want the easy way to keep my apps and configs..
Thank's in advance =)
i think, the only way to go back to eclair is flash using nandroid backup and fixed sbf.
if u want to go back to froyo, u can flash with full sbf

[Q] Help Flashing Custom ROM

Hi had the official 2.3 RUU installed on my Desire, I have used Reveloutinary.io to S off my phone, i have now r0oted my phone.
I have created an ext 3 partition on the SD card and took a nandroid backup.
The info i really need is my HBOOT v is 6.93, i want to install the "[ROM][15/08][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.1.1" on my phone, the question i have is can i simply flash the ROM straight on the phone, or will i have to downgrade the ROM to an official 2.2 RUU first.....
Sorry for the noobness but this is my first post ever so please go easy on me.
If you successfully s-off'd you dont need to downgrade anything, just copy the ROM to the SD Card and for this particular ROM make sure your ext partition is atleast 1GB.
Then Full Wipe/Factory rest + Cache wipe + Dalvik Cache Wipe in recovery.
Now flash the .zip file, after turning off signature verification (should be under "install from sdcard")
Also make sure you download right version of the ROM.
Stock A2SD version if you didnt changed HBOOT, and CM7 version if you changed your HBOOT to CM7.
Also if this is your first ROM, then take a look if you have any WIFI/GSM problems after you booted up, if so it means you might need to update your radio to 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23 (search forum for it, there are guides how to flash it too), if you dont have any issues then just ignore it.
Thank you so much for your help, will try it tomorrow and see how i get on.
I jumped the gun and tried it, i took an online backup using My backup pro and whe i have come to restore all of my apps and settings it has restored nothing.
Is there anything i have missed off this?
Sorry no idea i have no experience with My backup pro.. using Titanium Backup.

[Q] Defy Plus: help romdump

After some frustrating failures with romdump v72 I could extract a romdump out of my Motorola Defy Plus MB526 (carrier Vodafone-Italy) with v82b.
Here is the result:
Code:
04/02/2012 18.17 185 checksum.md5
04/02/2012 18.14 0 config.gz
04/02/2012 18.14 1.399 system.info.gz
04/02/2012 18.16 286.179.328 system.tar
How can I know if everything is ok?
How can I make a recovery out of those files?
I would like to try CM7 but I will not until I know I have a working backup.
I don't really know what you're doing here but can't you just do a nandroid backup from CWM recovery?

I think that he want's to dump his official stock rom before modifying his defy. So i guess he has not got 2nd-init or CWM or CM7, (or probably even root?)
Sent from my 1Ghz CM7 + CM9 Defy
Almost perfect ;-) I did root to enable Titanium Backup. Next step is having a firmware backup and then finding a CWM recovery that works on Defy+
Edit: you can not romdump without rooting.
Update: I wiped all data from the phone, rooted again, made a "clean" romdump, installed the recovery, and made a backup from there (I suppose it is a nandroid backup).
Now I will restore all data, backup again and study CM installation.
Thanks for suggestions.
Hi UncleDan,
I have Motorola Defy Plus MB526 2.3.5, and would like to make romdump before doing 2nd-init and installing CM7,CM9
So far I understand that phone has to be rooted(done), romdump should be installed.
Did you use ADB, or terminal to install/start it?
(addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-backup-your-android-phones-boot-recovery-and-system-partition-images)
Was the backup running without problems, or did you fight with something...?
Finally, if I got system image, how do I make restore from it?
As on romdump page is only stated:
Once the program has finished you should find a directory in the root of your SD card called romdump and a sub-directory named after your device model. Take those files and give them to someone who knows how to make a recovery zip
Click to collapse
BTW: Will be this image usable after screwing something with CM7, CM9?
Or I will need to flash one of SBF anyway?
(sorry if that a silly question - the more I read on forums, the more confused I'm)
Thanks.

2ndInit
I had no problems in making the image with romdump v82b but I had no clue on how to restore.
So I parked it and went for 2nd init + nandroid. I restored twice and works like a charme.
The only little issue is that if you install bootmenu 0.6.1 it installs an old recovery which makes a single backup image and if you restore that you always get the old recovery, even if you had a recent one e.g. by flashing CM7.

Dude, that's not an error, that's what's meant to happen when you boot in to recovery mode. When you get that logo, press vol+ and vol- at the same time and you will get the stock recovery menu.
