Hey all,
Once again, I'm having another issue. So, I tried to flash a them into Amen Ra recovery mode and wiped everything, including my sd card. Tried to restart the phone and everytime it never loaded fully into the phone, just went to bootloader. So I powered down, and went into Ra recovery, tried to install my back up but of course it got wiped. So then, I went and connected my sd card into a memory card reader and dragged and dropped the themes I was trying to install, as well as CM7 I got from their website. The themes didn't flash, it just went straight to the boot loader again. Flashed CM7 and its fine but I have no Google apps or even the market.... how do I get this?
It's not the first time its happened, before I wanted to try CM7 and had no gapps or the market so I took it off and went back to my last back up. Some one help please? And I'm sorry for the noob questions, I'm trying to learn as I go with this phone. THanks to anyone that can help!
You need to flash the latest gapps zip. There's a link for it on the CM site and the thread here on xda.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
The Gapps is an optional and separate zip. you need to flash it after flashing cm7.
You should try the gapps with the Gtalk video enabled its really great!
thank you both! I installed gapps from their website! Now I need to learn how to install themes... lol
You can install themes the same way. (Most of them) Just download the zip, put it on your SD card, wipe dalvik/cache, and flash it Just make sure that it is compatible with your current cm7 rom and its not just the apk for the theme chooser on cm7. The theme dev will have all the info on the first or second post. So in short, if its a zip file, just flash like you did the gapps. Don't wipe everything, just the dalvik/cache.

Ok so, I was flashing CM7-GX4...everything was going fine until I flashed GAPPS, now I'm stuck at two screens alternating between the CM7 boot animation and the screen that says "Welcome to PC36100", upon this screen loading it quickly restarts the CM7 boot animation, so on and so forth. I am able to get into CWM recovery. Please help.
Thank you in advance.

What if the PC36IMG file is renamed? I changed the name previously per the instructions of some thread I saw somewhere. Could this be the problem?
well you lost me at the hboot image. The only time i have ever had to use a file like that is when i was rooting my phone.
I also do not use cwm, so i am kinda limited in the help i can provide. Did you wipe your system/data/cache before you flashed cm7?
I wiped everything. I've put the SD card in another phone and renamed it back to PC36IMG...lets see what happens LOL
Renamed file back to PC36IMG...still stuck in boot loop
What exactly are you using the pc36img for?

I'm not using it for anything. It's just there from back when I rooted the phone. I had renamed it a while ago. Everything was going fine, install CM7 GX4 ROM, rebooted, attempted to install GAPPS and thats when I got stuck going back and forth between the two screens. I have put the SD card in another phone and renamed it to the original PC36IMG (figuring since I was stuck at a screen saying Welcome to PC36100 it couldnt find the file or something), and I'm still having the same problems. I've wiped and wiped and wiped using CWM and reinstalled CM7-GX4 several times and am still getting the same bootloop.
I'm running a restore from CWM...hopefully that will take me back to a point where I can do something.
yeah, you dont need the pc36img after you root so that is not the problem. My only guess is that cwm is not wiping everything properly or you are missing a step in the install process. I guess you can try a few things:
See if your cwm recovery is up to date (i know earlier versions had issues clearing out properly, but that has since been fixed)
Start back from the beginning of the install process with that rom. Make sure to wipe data, system, and cache, and go back through step by step (sometimes it is easy to overlook a step). Also i noticed in the rom you are using it says to make sure to flash the wi-max kernel, so make sure you do that.
Lastly, I have never used that rom, but if you do not need 4g you can try flashing the actual cyanogenmod nightlies. They are very stable (its what i am running now), and you can grab the latest nightly from:http://mirror.teamdouche.net and grab the gapps from: http://goo-inside.me (universal package)
Sorry to lay a crap load of info on you, but i just don't know what would cause it. A bootloop (which is what you are experiencing with the going back and forth between screens) basically means something did not install right and is making your phone restart over and over.

I ran the recovery and got back to an old point. I guess I'll try again! Weird that it happened after flashing GAPPS as everything was fine up until that point. I'll grab the gapps from your source. Thanks!

Well, i would only use the gapps from the link i provided if you are going to flash the official cm7 nightlies. I wouldnt mix and match! i surely don't want to cause further problems for you! lol. I was reading over that rom and I am not sure why you would need to reboot between installing the rom and the gapps. But again, not familiar with that version!
Sorry i couldnt help more hope you get it!

Ok Fellow EVO owners, for those of you still around, I know you are busy applying the S-Off and Root to your phones, but have any of you tried the next steps of loading another ROM? I am currently trying to load on CM7, however after it finishes flashing the ROM, it boots into the flash animation and just stays there. Tried clearing cache to no avail. Looking for possible solution...
Need more information.
Most likely you aren't wiping SYSTEM, however.
Flash Dalvik?
What information do you need?
I have to admit I am new to the Android scene. Phone was updated to the OTA when I purchased so I have been lurking till now.
Here is what details I have:
S-Off via the Revolutionary method just released
Replaced Clockworks with Amon-RA
Successfully performed backup and restore of device to test
Downloaded CM7 latest Stable version and placed on SD-Card
Booted into recovery and wiped Cache and Dalvik-cache
Flashed .zip from SD-Card
Got the message that it was successful
Within Amon-Ra selected reboot device
Device booted into the flash screen for CM7 and it just keeps cycling that screen over and over, it never actually proceeds into the OS
If you need more let me know.
Thanks
You need to wipe everything.

First let me say, Welcome to the flashing scene. You will be an addict and we're here to help you out
I would recommend flashing this first:
http://dc370.4shared.com/download/KV-YsWJ7/VR_SUPERWIPE.zip?tsid=20110815-030517-d546271d
This will wipe your phone's memory.
Then flash the CM7.zip. Let me know how this goes for you dude.
Wipe Data, System, Cache, Dalvik, android.secure, SDext, boot, and everything I might've forgotten (except SD card). Flash VR Superwipe (http://www.virusrom.com/Tools/VR_SUPERWIPE.zip). Flash Cyanogenmod, flash GAPPS (Google Apps: you want this if you want Market and such - packaged separately due to legal issues). Reboot, enjoy

I looked around for like an HOUR trying to figure out the gapps issue, couldn't find the package. (day 3 of S-off/root)
I do have a question tho, is the SPRINT Visual Voicemail available in the market or do you need a special package to get it to work? I have seen a little about it on the forums but have yet to find much info..
I know there is a gapps zip in the evo deck thread that has sprint vvm included. That rom is very similar to cm so you could try flashing that gapps instead.
Anyone know if cm7 and that gapps package has been tried... going to bed now but could try tmrw.

If u search on here there is a fix for the sprint vvm. If when on a sense rom use titanium backup to back up sprint vvm including data. Then once u flash cm7 and its up and running use titanium backup to restore sprint vvm + data. There is a flashable zip also somewhere around here. Id link u to the thread but I'm on my phone right now
To op if all the wiping doesn't seem to work it could be ur SD card. Sometimes it goes bad. Transfer everything off and then format SD card after that transfer things back and try again

Probably a bad flash or something. Turn on your phone while holding the volume down. Once in the boot-loader go into recovery. From recovery mount USB storage and try some other ROM. For simplicity i would go with CM7 stable it's always booted up for me just fine and ive never had problems flahing it. Remember before flashing to Factory reset data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache then flash the rom. Once your on CM7 or a different rom do some more research and try again.
Also please post your questions in the Q and A forum.
Oh btw if you have a nandroid backup restoring that might work. Making on of your stock rom would of been a good idea if you didnt.
sorry about posting here
phone had cm7 when i got it but it has lots of problems and i decided to take it to sprint and they put it back to stock.
and i hate stock so i tried to root it watching a utube video, with a rom i got here.
i did get into Hboot and put the SU- zip in the sd card and deleted the supersonic zip and tried to update with it but still having same prob, i'll try clearing the stuff you said to clear.
Hello all just bought a new Samsung Galaxy SII from craigslist already rooted with 4.0.3 Jedi Mind Trick. After reading for what seems 4-5 hours i have been trying to put together how to properly without bricking switching it to 10.0.0 Stable as i use to use Cyanogenmod 2-3 years ago on my devices. Seem alot of things have changed and there is a cluster**** of stuff out there now. If you could direct me to a how to or show me how to do it i would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks all!
Assuming you have nothing personal to back up that you can't just download from google play or your google account again: download cyanogen 10 and it's gapps. reboot into recovery mode. factory reset, wipe data, wipe system, wipe cache, wipe dalvik. pick the install zip from sd card or so option, browse to cyanogen, then install gapps the same way. wipe dalvik again and reboot.
I was thinking of doing this myself JMT to CM10. I didn't think there was anything special to do same as flashing from any other ROM to CM10. If there is a special requirement I would think they'd post in in with the ROM post information.

honestly - i backed up everything to my external and then formatted the internal when i went from TW to AOSP for the last time. well worth it. nice folder clean up and then you can just manually take all the stuff you want back.
and you should just be able to odin on cwm or twrp - then flash the rom of your choice.

If you get stuck at the boot logo, it's called a soft brick. You don't have to use ODIN or go back to ICS. Just make sure the ROM zip you downloaded isn't corrupt (check the size/m5d if possible), wipe everything, and reboot into recovery to try installing again.

You won't fail. Follow the guidelines step by step. Print it out, make notes. Anything. Read. The step by step guide works... that'll get you with cwm. Then, you can flash the zip you will put on your phone... either a SU zip or just a rooted ROM. Follow flashing instructions.
Just realized - you'll be way better off if, once you have cwm on, just format the internal ONCE YOU HAVE A ROM ON AN EXTERNAL SD CARD. then flash CM10. THEN you'll have a fresh AOSP install.

Please excuse my harshness but this is not as hard as many make it seem. I would say if it takes you more than a couple attempts maybe it is just not for you. I only say this because I would hate to see you mess up your phone. Now if you think a bootloop is a brick then we need to do things at a slower pace with you.
If you already have your phone rooted then
1.download goomanager from the playstore and then
2.open it up and allow it to grant permission from CM
3.hit menu button while goo manager is open
4.click on install OpenRecoveryScript
5.let it do its thing
6.reboot into your new TWRP recovery
7.Wipe/Data Factory Reset
8.Flash Rom
9.Flash Gapps
10.Reboot
You can throw in a backup of files somewhere in there if you like.... Your choice

I had a bootloop when using CWM v6.0.1.5. So a friend of mine told me he had success with CWM v6.0.1.5 Touch. So I switched to the touch recovery and... SUCCESS.
Here's the link to CWM touch and non-touch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1893464
A boot loop could mean a bad download or bad flash but it is most definitely NOT a bricked device. All you needed to do was get a fresh download and move it to your SD card by mounting it in recovery. Then, wipe EVERYTHING but the SD. EVERYTHING. Then flash the ROM, Gapps and whatever radio. I go from CM to AOKP to other random TW roms all the time and never have issues.
The 2 best recoveries are twrp or my favorite because I'm used to it is cwm 6.0.1.5. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844637
Also if your phone boot loops don't freak out' just either reboot to see if that works out first and if not reboot into recovery. Also with these new recoveries do not use dark side scripts.
Factory reset
Format system
Format cache
Format data
Flash ROM
Flash gapps
Reboot and enjoy

Sorry for the necro on the thread, but I didn't want it to be stated I didn't look around some either.
I am going from JMT to CM and want to make sure it's as seamless as possible. I use CWM and usually usually use darkside complete wipes, but I read in a previous post not to use darkside. Is there a reason for this? I can't see why this wouldn't work as it's just a wipe.
Also I use Titanium Backup. Is it possible to backup my apps and data and restore them since its not TW any longer? I want to be able to restore as much of my data as possible and make sure I don't lose it.
P.S. - If thread necroing is not appreciated, I apologize.
Ok I've been reading and reading these threads and have found a lot of great info. Right now my phone is useless so I guess I'm asking for a little more specific info for my current situtation. I used mskip's toolkit to root my phone then followed wwjoshdew's video on how to use goomanager to flash CyanogenMod 10.1.2. Everything seemed to be going fine when I got the spinning blue circle screen then came the "Unfortunately, setup wizard has stopped" and "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped". Over and over and over. I can get to download mode and recovery mode but not sure what my next coarse of action should be. This is on an AT&T galaxy s3 originally running 4.1.1. Thanks in advance to any and all help....
I wouldn't use goo manager to flash anything!! U should have flashed straight from recovery, be it cwm or twrp. Did u perform a nandroid backup before u flashed cyan? If so, I would wipe, factory data reset, and install your backup.
Have you tried reflashing Google Apps?
Reboot to recovery, clear cache/dalvik, reflash GApps, clear cache/dalvik again to be sure all is tidy.
Also be sure you have the correct version of GApps; that has messed me up at least once.
Other than that you can always retry the whole process i.e. CM and Apps
Thanks for the replies. I'll try and figure that stuff out. Only reason I've gotten this far was because I was following the toolkit prompts and did the steps in the video as he did them. This is the first time I've tried anything except updating to JB so...
Well, I can't say I've made any progress. I googled correct gapps for cm 10.1.2 and downloaded it but it's like a big collection of stuff that odin won't put in the PDA file spot. I'm not even sure if its the right one. I'm so lost right now. I see all these cwm and twrp recovery files in the toolkit files but not sure if they would help me or not. I know this is fixable since I can still get into recovery and download mode. At this point I would even just go back to stock at least that way I could get rooted again through the toolkit. I'm guess I'm such a noob that I need step by step. I feel like my right arm is missing not having a phone...
Ok I have 2 different versions of gapps that claim to be the right one. I would love to try flashing them to try them out but odin doesn't see them. What am I doing wrong?
Which recovery do u have installed on your phone?
For one dont use odin to flash any custom roms, first download the latest cyanogen mod and gapps, if you need the latest gapps you can get them here. Next you are going to want to boot to recovery and do a factory reset/full wipe then wipe cache/dalvik cache, next go to the top and select load zip from sd card, install cyanogen mod and gapps and reboot the phone.
Ok something different happened this time when I went into recovery. TWRP v2.3.3.1 showed up. I wiped the cache/Dalvik and did the factory reset from there. I have cm-10.1.2-d2att and gapps-jb-20130301-signed ready to copy somewhere. I opened the internal card and saw 8 or so icons that said local disk. so I created a new folder and put the cm and gapps files in there. Does that sound right?
Well that seems to have worked. Rebooted and went through all the google stuff. I'll test everything and see how it works
Glad u got it working!! I usually download Roms straight from my phone, over WiFi of course, and place on the root of the SD card, not in a folder, and flash from there...
