So being the impatient soul I am, right after I got permanent root, I decided to jump into Titanium Backup and deleted some of the bloatware. I was so impatient, that I totally forgot to backup the system apps I deleted to a backup folder on my SDcard, so now those apks are gone. My question is now, if an OTA becomes available, am I going to have problems again, just like with Paul's Goggles app?
If so, what do you suggest I do? I am guessing now that now root has been achieved, we can install those apps to the system just fine again. Can someone upload these apks for these system apps, so I just feel on the safe side and I have backups? I would greatly appreciate it...

Of course, if you don't see this as being a problem for the future, please tell me. It would make me feel a lot more secure about things. Thanks!
it shouldnt be a problem, you can re download those in the market
Goddamn it. Now I went to uninstall Email.apk to replace it with an old one that doesn't require remote security, but it keeps giving me an "Application not installed" error, even with the backup of the original.
How do I get it to install?!

You don't install system apps, you just move then into /system/app/
its likely if an OTA becomes available a dev will mod it to be flashable to rooted and modified /system/ devices

Okay, I feel much better now. Time to play around with this thing! So excited!
Yea if an ota comes out, it will be modded to update the system and skip files not found, if there is a patch.
So your good. I'm just waiting for custom recovery with nandbackup before I start messing n the system. I just hate setting up the phone all over after
And if all else fails you can fastboot flash system.img from the orig pc10img. Wiping all your data and formating ur system. Then updating to ota.

Just use Titanium Backup to uninstall any apps you want. Long click on the app, and an uninstall option will be there.

Download "adfree" in the market. Done.

Since at first we will not have access to the Market directly I was thinking that the best way to load aps would be with Titanium Backup. I have an Android phone now (HD2) that keeps the aps I use updated. By using z4root v1.3 or something like it to "root" I could just use my backup from the phone to keep my Adam aps up to date as well as to load them in the first place.
Any thoughts/discussion on this method or other ideas on how best/easiest to do it?
I plan on using dropbox and save all my apks there so I can access them from my Adam and install on the fly
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Dropbox is an excellant way of handling it.
I plan to use dropbox to get my Titanium Pro and then use the Titanium batch mode to load the aps so I don't have to do them one at a time. I will have to see if I run into over write problems. Want to start with an initial Titanium full BU anyway on the Adam.
I will probably use mostly the same aps on my phone and Adam. The phone stays updated automatically from the market and I do frequent back-ups using the Titanium batch mode for new and updated aps. If I then did an ap restore on Adam they would all be current and updated as well. This method should keep me current until the Honeycomb market opens.
AppBrain Market Sync
AppBrain Market Sync will not work in this case because the device needs access to the Market for AppBrain to work. Just FYI. AppBrain is really a Market filter and search engine not an app storage depot.
Update: Other tabs have AppBrain working fine so I am sure the Adam will have it working as well.

I'm sure someone will get the stock Google Apps and Google Market running on the Adam in no time...
--edit--
Check out rothnic's thread called Eden Plus for an update.zip package for rooted access and stock Google Apps added.
First and foremost before we do any playing around, even after root, we should make sure full NAND is working. Having a NAND backup that is fully functional is very important. On camera Rohan seems fine with us tinkering around, but when it comes time for his company to pay out warranty costs they will no doubt speak out against rooting.

when i had my g-tablet i was able to do that with titanium. as long as titanium is granted super user permissions it should restore all our apps fine. ideally this is what i'd like to do.
Isn't it possible to just pull the apps from your phone by using ADB?
I know I where able to do this a long time ago, but I forgot how to do it, and I can't seem to find any info on it anymore.
As that would be easier than trying to get titanium backup working.
Yes it is
but Titanium Backup and Drop box are both free so why not use them? Then you can continue to use them to make BUps on your Adam.
Yea, i know there both free, but to use dropbox whit Titaniumbackup, you need the paid version, so it's not completely free
Correct
I don't use dropbox through Titanium. I use both for different purposes. It would be to slow to use dropbox to transfere all of those files.
I use dropbox to transfer the occasional single file and do any printing chores.
I use Titanium to backup my programs. Then I use the Nike network* to move the mass files between devices.
* The Nike network or tennis shoe network is an old computer term for using physical media to transfer files between computers. You use your feet to move from one to the other. I first did this on my IBM 5110 in 1979. The 5110 was an early IBM portable computer that had 8" floppy drives and a whopping 64k of memory. Portable in those days meant any computer smaller than a room.

Awaiting my Adam. I'm hoping My backupPro does the trick for me.
It won't get flash or other pre-installed programs (HTC Incredible) so I'm sure hoping someone is going to put up a thread for "must have" apk's like Flash so we can get to them easily.

Looks like Rothnic has an update.zip package with root access and Google Apps added.
All Adams are shipped with root privilege access. Just need market and SuperUser app installed, access given to TB, install Busybox from TB, and then it should be good to go.
If someone wants to help speed up this process join ##adamroot on freenode.net and help the devs. They are waiting for someone with an Adam to spend about an hour or less working through the kinks.
Or you can send me ur Adam and I'll help get things working
If you have not rooted your adam you can extract and install your titanium backup files with astro. Fyi

Can you back up your paid apps with dropbox / titanium or are they activated by username online?
Yes you can back them up, but you have to be rooted first.

Once you've paid for and app you can always download it again for free from the market (as long as you use the same google account).
If you definitely want to back up the apk, than you use titanium backup or also ES File. Not sure whether you actually need root to do that though.

I want to delete some of the stock apps but I can't figure out how it keeps telling me that it cannot be deleted .I downloaded titanium backup and tried deleting with that n ended up having to take my battery out of my phone after 5 minutes of an exclamation triangle and android
Well deleting them should have worked. And can you get into recovery?
I would unroot and figure out how to root and everything involved with rooting. Then, I would flash a ROM that has the sprint bloat out of it.
Also, there is a list of "safe to remove" apps out on this site somewhere. You may want to find it and keep a hold of it.
With Titanium, just freeze the app, you don't have to uninstall it
then drink
Havent tried to get to recovery. I was told I could delete them with titanium backup??

You can delete them with Titanium. Go into menu > preferences and enable Chuck Norris mode. That should do it for ya.
Why would u pay someone to root ur phone bro. Its so easy. That Guy ripped u off and u should get ur money back. Plus sounds like he did it wrong.
I just wasn't comfortable doing it myself, I paid $20.00 and that's not even a month of free wireless teather so that's ok. I just want to delete NASCAR and Facebook and a few others.
If I where u I would just install another sense rom cause that have more features and faster

Did you try my suggestion?
First id check and make sure your phone is actually rooted.
Secondly I'd consider a sense Rom like mikfroyo or myns. My setup is in my sig. Mikfroyo has the bloat removed but also includes the apks if u want any of it back.
Last bit of advise...read about rooting, flashing, roms, kernels, etc. All the info is here. If your tech savy at all ill be doing it all urself with ease. If your not tech savy then either don't root or pay someone who knows how to do it right

if you do indeed have root, just download system app remover from the market. Be careful of removing apps that seem like they wouldn't be needed, you could mess your stuff up.
OP, sounds like you got ripped off, and paid someone $20 to do jack squat to your phone.
Download root checker from the market, it'll verify that you're rooted and have busybox installed. If you don't have busybox, I'm pretty sure you can get it through titanium backup or through the busybox app in the market. If you download busybox from the market, you still need to launch it - it's a busybox installer - and follow the prompts in the app.

Ok I downloaded un installer for root from the market and it has allowed me to delete. Chuck Boris was on on my titanium backup but I only had the free version maybe that's why it wouldn't work?
Arnezie,
shoot me a Private msg with your email and ill email u
Delete if you must, but there are risks with synching after doing so. Many of those apps you might find undesirable are integrated into Sense.
You would probably find backing your rooted stock ROM and then flashing a custom ROM that you like a safer choice.

Have you installed them like new, or have you restored them? That could be a problem with going from Gingerbread to ICS. Also there is a GPS patch in the development thread. Why don't you give that a go? You might need to reinstall them from scratch again. If that doesn't work with Swype, then they probably haven't updated it to handle 4.0.3. I have the same ROM too. Everything is great, but the gallery and camera fc's and charging is slow as hell and the battery drains quickly.
tried that
i tried to download from the website but it needs you to uninstall swype first. and i can't uninstall cause it's preinstalled. Because im new to this i don't know how or if you can uninstall a preinstalled app.

Ohhh that's why. Okay... Go into the Play Store and download Titanium Backup. I think you can do this with the free version. Open it and at the top you should see Overview, Backup/Restore, and Schedules. Hit Backup/Restore and scroll down until you see "swype........" Tap it and hit uninstall. After that, try install your new swype.
AWESOME
AWESOME. Thanks guys you were really healpful. I used the titanium backup (free) and was able to uninstall. Finally able to swipe again
So do you guys have any tips on getting my location to lock when using maps. it's not that it's is slow it just doesnt lock me in at all.

How to remove your bloatware:
1. Root your phone (search the forum)

3.

Well, to understand if you can easily remove applications from your ROM or not depends on few things. Firstly if you want to remove a system app or a normal app. In case of system app, you will need ROOT to perform the action. Secondly, even removing bloatware can brick your phone and you will need to reflash firmware. This is because the ROM usually share files between system and user. So one program might be using system files too and removing that could damage your system files resulting in bricked phone. For that, first you will need to deodex your ROM. This simply means that your all applications would be stand alone and there would not be sharing between them. So removing one program would not affect any at all.
I would prefer to remove bloatware with titanium backup after my ROM is deodexed as it's easier and gives you more control. However, you will need to root your phone!
Good Luck
Hnk1 you started to shed some light on the debranding issue. Some questions to go farther with your explanation: 1) is it possible to check if the ROM is already deodexed ? 2) why I should have more control removing bloatware with Titanium ? If I select the "wrong" app and I remove it the problem is the same regardless how I removed it

To wonder, if you have selected the normal file or not, this will come with experience and how ROM works.
I have even removed keyboards, camera, notes application, dialer and still my ROM booted. The files which are not in the app drawer are usually the files you must not remove unless you know about them ( like keyboards, extensions of facebook, picassa twitter or any other application which can be removed)
In Titanium backup, you can simply select which file you want to remove and you can even make a backup in case you need them later. You can also just freeze the app, in which case it will be installed but it wouldnot be functional at all. You wouldnot see it in app drawer even.
Remember to clear dalvik with titanium backup after deleting apps (esp system ones), this will free some extra space in Internal memory.
Good Luck
Antrikos48 & Hnk1, thanks for your directions.
To be honest, Hnkl, your "Good Luck" doesn't give me a lot of wish to go ahead in the process. Just in case...I guess that when you say "brick the phone" you mean "having a boot loop"; in this case, being routed but without a recovery (still with my bootloader blocked), which should be the procedure (if exists) ? Could you please just point me to the wright direction ?
