after unlocking, rooting with gfree and debranding i can put a nextel sim and the banner on top of the screen reads Nextel. i went to contacts and it has selection for Iden contacts. has anyone else tried this cuz i am curious if this phone can actually use a nextel sim. I know even though its a sim card that iden and gsm are totally different but it has nextel on the top of the screen and goes to iden contacts, because my nextel has been cut off years ago i cant try a test call. Can someone, anyone verify this on their g2 if a nextel or maybe boost sim is in reach to use. i am very curious.
Sorry wrong thread

You stopped using nextel years ago right? What does it matter? You planning on going back? Why

Just was curious because that would make this phone worth a lot of money on ebay. Would sell it high, buy another G2 for a good low price , root, unlock, debrand, and repeat the process over and over again. Would even replace the spring again.

Well like the name implies, I'm a noob. INC2 is my first smartphone, and it's been a learning process, but I'm comfortable with it. Either way, my service is currently cut off(by choice) there is a billing issue, and unless I stop being stubborn or they give my the credit I deserve I'm not paying.
Anyway it's been cut off a month, and I've still been using it over wifi just fine with 2.99 skype calling and text plus it's been no problem. Anyway, I took out the sim card and it's still working fine. Is that normal, even when I tried to make a call it sent me to Verizon cust. service like it normally does, and it still says in service in the settings.I was under the impression, that once the sim card is taken out nothing could be done with the phone. Can Verizon track what I'm doing without the sim card in? Or even when it is in and the GPS is turned off, can they track it?

To expand on that, your SIM isn't required to use the phone in the US on big red's network. CDMA carriers don't use SIM cards; GSM carriers do. The Inc2 is a dual mode/hybrid/whatever you want to call it because it has a CDMA radio for domestic use and a GSM radio for use abroad.

I hear that Gingerbread has been patched to support RUIM cards (CDMA SIMs) so with the patch you can run a RUIM. Then depending on whether you are on CDMA or GSM select, switch off, put in the corresponding card into the slot and start.
yea pulled mine out a long time ago...but keeping it just incase...
Is it possible for my friend then essentially to take my phone and throw his AT&T Sim in my phone and he is able to use it on there service? Or is there a SIM Unlock for instance when I'm in Thailand and don't want Verizon to charge me $1,000,000.00 just to make phone calls because normally i end up buying a cheap Nokia and SIM for only 50.00 and it lasts me for about 2 days on minutes when im overseas. I pretty much want to be able to use the SIM and not have Verizon charging me for International use when i'm using a different Carrier's SIM

The SIM is for foreign use for most of us in the US. I went to the UK recently, bought a $15 SIM card which gave me a new phone number over there, phone minutes, unlimited text and unlimited data. I got the unlock code from Verizon before I left. I was able to get the unlimited data by having a rooted phone and selecting my own APN settings.
I'll do the same later this year in Italy. Right now I am using a Virtuous Unity ROM which does not recognize SIM cards, but I'll just switch back to my stock Gingerbread ROM before I go.

How did you obtain the APN settings for the new network?

The network provider has to give you that info. I got it from the company that rented me the European SIM card. I used iPhoneTrip.com, for what it's worth. Good coverage and no sneaky charges after the trip was over.

EDIT: Just got off the phone with T-Mobile Tech Support, they tell me theres nothing more beyond a Factory Reset that could help the issue, and seeing as I've already done a factory reset a few times to no avail, I should look into getting my money back for this device.
Okay, so I purchased an HTC G2 from ebay. I know this was my first error in judgement, but I have a limited budget so i took what i could get.
Anyways, I currently have T-mobile on my Unlocked Iphone 3GS, but I've grown tired of Jailbreak problems and using 2G data speed.. So i Found this phone on Ebay, and purchased. when I got it, I quickly popped in my already active SIM card and got NO SERVICE, looked around on the phone and found the Network Settings, went to 'Network Operators' and searched for a network. T-Mobile and AT&T shows, but does not connect to either. when I inserted another T-Mobile SIM card, the same error shows. ( thought maybe my SIM was too old to receive 4g or some BS like that.. lol)
anyways, I dont need to Unlock my phone, I dont plan on using it on any other provider or in any other country. All i want is for it to work with T-Mobile, in america. is there anything I can do? or should I just send it back to the Ebay seller.
any information needed, let me know and I can get for you.. its running:
Android 2.3.4.
Baseband: 12.62.60.27U_26.13.04.19_M
Kernel: 2.6.35.10-g96de068
[email protected] #1
2.16.531.5 CL159515 release-keys
Is try a factory reset. Re insert sim. If still doesn't work call t mobile support. If still no go file an eBay complaint and send back broken phone for a refund.
Sent from my HTC G2 using xda premium
Okay, thanks I'll try that right now.
Also, do you think T-Mobile will offer support to me, although i did not purchase the phone directly from them? They got testy with me a while back when I was having issues with the Dash.
Okay, so I just tried both Soft and Hard factory reset and neither worked. re-inserted SIM and still get either "this SIM is unsupported" or "Unable to connect to this network"
I also get an Alert on the Drop-down menu that shows " the network (T-Mobile) is Unavailable.

How old is your SIM? The G2 uses a newer SIM; go ask for a new SIM at your local store

Thanked you instead of quoting! Oh well, this was useful advice actually.
He is right - I had to get a new sim card when I got my g2 in order for it to function as a phone!
Oh, see then I suppose I wasnt wrong in thinking that then. so, If I go to a T-mobile and just get a newer SIM card, all should be well?

yes its free just tell them the sim is malfunctioning
Thanks, but after talking with T-Mobile tech support, we've found that my sim is up-to-date enough to receive 4g, and if its working in another phone then thats not the issue. it appears that the phone itself is malfunctioning in some way that prevents it from receiving any network. I've contacted the Seller and she's agreed to a refund. this is a real disappointment but its the only option left for me.
Unless anyone knows how to fix the problem of the G2 not accepting any network. After some research I've found this to be a common problem after an attempted Unlock of the device that went wrong. but, I've found no clear solution to it. Just alot of people complaining about it. I didnt attempt any unlock of this device, nor did I buy an Unlocked device purposefully.
the sad part is, I've only had the phone for two days, with NO SERVICE and i still love the device. IF i could find a more trustworthy dealer, without spending close to $100 more than I already spent, I'd love to use it.
So I'm trying to help a friend get the HTC evo on their straight talk plan. Ive looked at the boost mobile and other tutorials to get it on verizon. But hoping someone could help out. It doesn't need a sim card or anything. Any help would be much appreciated!
I thought Straight Talk was Walmart's service through AT&T, which would mean it's GSM and requires a SIM card....
Yea that's what I thought but I was told it was through Verizon also, and the phone my friend is currently using has no sim card in it. Ive never had that service so I don't know for sure tho. Maybe someone could provide more insight..?

Well...it may be roaming on part of Verizon, but I believe its T-Mobile.
I almost signed up with them at my local Walmart but talked myself out of it.
At mine it didn't sell, so that location discontinued it then came back, then stopped again. Last I saw it was back again. Lol
I'm about sure its a GSM based phone service. Best bet, call the local Walmart and see what phones their actually selling for it. That will tell you what it uses for sure.

I work at Walmart and actually just transferred out of electronics. Straight runs off of cdma and GSM. They just came out with two android phones that run off of verizon so it probably is possible but I can't help you with how to do it

Actually, there are services on eBay that will flash the Evo from Sprint to Straight Talk to utilize the Verizon network. If our phones had sim cards, we could just buy a ATT or T Mobile sim card from Straight Talk, change a few settings and be on our way. As it stands with Sprint's Evo, most flashing services require that you ship the phone off (check seller feedback and comments 1st!) while others will flash via remote log in on your computer. Verizon network for $45 per month... can't beat it. My rooted phone was shipped off and is being flashed now. I will try to update all once my phone has been returned (3g speeds, etc).
Edit: Got my phone back today. Paid ~ $79.00 with no need to buy a donor phone. Gentleman was very courteous and my phone was returned in excellent condition. I'm digging the Verizon service.

I currently have a iPhone 5 from AT&T and am looking at getting a S3 off eBay. Now my question is if I put the AT&T sim in the AT&T S3 will I get LTE? Reason i'm asking is I see that AT&T has 2 separate LTE plans, one for the iPhone and one for everything else. I already have an adapter for the nano sim.

Its just because iphones have an additional APN they work with. If you're provisioned for an iPhone plan you will be good with any other smartphone(apart from blackberries)
all you have to do at this point is put your sim in that micro adapter and you're good to go.

Wrong! You have to add the imei and the correct data plan on your account or you won't be able to access data. I work for a retailer and have people constantly coming in after swapping phones and their data is not working. It don't cost anything for a rep to add the correct soc codes and imei to your account. Just stop by the closest store to you and ask them to do it. It just takes a couple mins and saves people from getting pissed at at&t thinking there is problem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Wrong! Don't be rude to me when store reps like you call into me for tech help. IMEI on the account does not effect ANYTHING. If a customer needed me to activate a phone of theirs, had the SIM but couldn't access the imei, I would dummy it. As in, put 1111111111111119 in the system. And believe it or not... but it would work.
I've had customers switch from iPhone to Motorola RAZR, for example, no problem. IN FACT my girlfriend has a Blackberry data plan. She HAD an iPhone while using that plan. THEN she sold her iPhone and bought an HTC ONE X. Wouldn't you know, that worked too! I had tech disable the RIM feature on the account and add XIP provisioning (regular data provisioning)
Edit: disclaimer: unless in the US they have crazy provisioning on their plans to completely restrict a regular smartphone from not using an iPhone plan, then I apologize.

So, I got this phone off of eBay when my myTouch 3G Slide started to take a crap, and now I want to unlock it off of T-Mobile and use it on Consumer Cellular. Can't do that. After some patty-cake with customer service (formerly known as "Have you tried turning it off and on again, sir?"), they told me that the previous owner had had it on a contract, and that contract has an "unsettled" balance on it, and I'd have to arrange a payment to get them to hand over the code. I don't want to do this. I just recently rooted the phone using this root method, by Masters2150, and I was wondering if I could muck around inside the roaming list and pull out the code myself?
