The market won't install anything after countless times wiping then re-flashing CM7. I have tried both CM7 HBOOT and regular bravo HBOOT, tried installing Darktremor's A2SD and still just nothing. Please help!
It's possibly down to the cache set in the ROM/HBOOT - it might be too lower to install large apps
I don't think it's a cache issue since he's running the Oxygen ROM..it's meant to run with the smaller cache. I have no idea what else it could be though and why a full wipe wouldn't clear the issue up. You are wiping all, including cache and dalvik, correct? Have you tried restoring a backup from when it worked?
And if you're running Oxygen, as your sig states, you don't need to flash an A2SD script..it's built into the ROM.
But the cache is needed to download the app before installing it. If it's too small it won't install large apps. It's just a suggestion
I know it is, not saying that's wrong, but I know that, the way Oxygen is built, it installs apps differently. I'm not a dev, but I think it uses a cache on the SD card or something like that. The Oxygen Hboot has a very small cache and I've never had a problem installing any app from the market, including large installs.
Then it rules that out then!!
Though I just read that he's trying to flash CM7..so..oops. But CM7 also uses a cache on the SD card as opposed to the cache partition.
So have you tried wiping cache and dalvik as well? Or restoring a working backup? Tried any other ROMs?
okay actually now i am using the Bravo HBOOT..i haven't updated my sig since i realised i prefer the more features of CM7
So have you done a full wipe? including cache and dalvik?
Have you tried restoring a working backup?
yes and yes....
Yea, I figured...have you tried clearing the market cache?
Cleared cache and data, although i logged onto market.android.com and was able to push titanium backup, and Titanium backup pro. So by that i'm sure it can't be my account!

I'm sure I have seen some links and mirrors for installing separately from rom.
Just a guess!!

I'm gonna try repairing permissions through ROM manager, and if that won't work i'll use Oxygen or Dev-null instead....

Is there a working (non-themed) new market for CM6? I've tried a bunch of different methods, but none work. It always Force Closes.
I've tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877330
And even tried installing using these instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877510
But nothing is working, any help?
Are you wiping the cache and dalvik cache before you flash? I had no problems installing non-themed or themed versions of the market on CM.

Yes, I've done that and it did not work. I'm running a themed one right now, but find it hard to read and use. Is there a flashable version of the non themed market?

Flashed market, reboot

Jeez, umm I'm kinda running out of ideas. Here's 2.2.6, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9756315&postcount=20
Maybe you have problems with the ROM itself. Backup and try a clean install of the ROM (wipe cache and dalvik cache), then before anything else try flashing a new market.

Yeah, I'm going to try out another new ROM tonight anyway. And if I don't like it, I'm doing a new, fresh install of CM6 because it has been hella stable and fast for me
Followup for anyone who might run into this problem like I did:
I found a flashable version of the 2.2.7 market.
Put it on SD Card
Went to settings -> Manage Apps -> Market -> Delete Cache
Rebooted into Recovery
Cleared Cache
Cleared Dalvik Cache
Flashed the new Market
Reboot
Success
i posted this in the Q&A but was brought to my attention that it might need to be here.

I upgraded to the latest clockworkmod 3.0.0.5 and when I switch ROMs, I notice some of my item's are still "cached". For example, I was using Evervolv and then did a wipe of data, cache, and davlik, and flashed the RC1 for CM7. GApps are not packaged with either of these ROMs but when I booted up CM7 for the first time after flashing, GApps are installed, without me doing so. Is there an issue with the latest version of deleting cache or am I not doing enough wiping?

Ya I agree. I notices after wiping from nightly 38 to Cm7 RC1 all my settings and SMS and so on were still there. Odd...
Sent from God, who uses CM7 RC1.
It hasn't been fully wiping for me either. I've tried the setting from within ROM Manager as well as booting into recovering and manually telling it to wipe it. I also can't seem to back 3.0.0.5 out either.
the google backup service will restore some apps if you have it enabled in settings. by default it is enabled. this may be whats happening after your wipe.
I cant explain smokeey's sms messages tho
I understand google backup services but that would imply you have GApps installed, which shouldn't be after a full wipe and flash of new rom

good luck, i haven't had any issues with 3.0.0.5... yet
I've run into some issues as well. Went from Evervolv to my CM7 backup and when I restored the nandroid for CM7 the status bar was totally gone lol.
Google Apps are stored in /system/app. Wiping /data and /cache won't erase them.
With CWM, it's best to go into Mounts & Storage, and format system there. Then flash the ROM.

That makes sense, I noticed that whenever a rom developer says that the wipe is scripted into the install or update that, that is what it does is format the mounts first.

I can't get the Warm Two Point Two rom to flash since I upgraded. Even after flashing other recoveries (2.5.1.2, and 2.5.1.8) I still have problems flashing other roms.
I went back to 2.5.1.2 from 3.0.0.5 I notice little "gliches" with the 3.0.0.5 that didnt make it worth the upgrade. on a side note. Evervolv rocks!!! lol

Go into recovery and do a Factory Reset which will format system, cache and data.. Then install the ROM via the install zip file option and you should be good to go.
I have been having that problem also. I was running MIUI and I wiped everything as usual and flashed Liguid Metal and MIUI backup, music, and gallery were all still in my apps list. So I wiped and flashed again, but they were still there and I was unable to uninstall them.
I ended going back to an older version of CWM so i could try a few other ROMs because there are still a many that are incompatible.
Can someone please pm me with a link to where I can find an older version of CWM recovery. I am having issues as well.

So I have a rooted (latest unrevoked) EVO with stock ROM. Radio is the current version so I did not need to flash a new radio. I have the rom backed up with rom manager and also a Titanium Backup.
I download Cm7-final with Rom Manager and proceed to flash it. All appears well until it loads and I'm stuck in CM7 splash bootloop and never get into the actual OS/homescreen. I boot to recovery and restore my prior rom backup, luckily all is fine.
My question is what have i done wrong? I read the EVO CM7 Wiki and it looks like I followed the instructions correctly. Do I need to ditch using RomManager and try it manually? Any suggestions on why I got this bootloop?

Using the RomManager interface I chose to Wipe Data and Cache and also chose the gapps package to install. I guess I could try it again but I was mystified why it didnt work since I "thought" it was so simple.
If you're coming from a sense rom, wipe cache, data, dalvik, system, boot, basically everything but the sd card. After that, flash cyanogenmod, then gapps, then start the phone.

I'm an android noob, you'll have to forgive me. I thought when I selected "wipe data and cache" prior to flashing CM7 in the RomManager interface that it meant it would wipe all of that.
So I need to manually wipe everything except the card? Also, a secondary question, will any of this jeopardize the ability to restore my currently backed up stock sense rom if **** hits the fan?

No it won't as long as you have a nandroid. Look up the "VR Superwipe," and flash it. I'd recommend booting into recovery manually and doing this. Wipe cache and dalvik after flashing the superwipe for good measure. Finally flash the ROM.

What I did is manually DL the rom, boot into recover, wiped cache/dalvic, flashed from zip (Both CM7 and the proper GAPPS file) and it worked.

I have no tried since I got all these suggestions. Sorry for the confusion. I suspect manually wiping and manually installing will work.
Alpine:
When I first started flashing stuff I relied on the Clockwork app to do everything. I used it to flash roms and clear/wipe data and cache. However, after running into problems like yours I started doing it manually.
What I started doing was booting into RECOVERY (i know it sounds scary but it really isn't) A little off topic but there is a great app that I think every rooted user should use, it's called: Reboot Control Widget It only costs a measly $1 in the Market but it's well worth it. Basically you put the widget on the desktop and click on it. You are then given the option to Reboot your phone, Hot Boot (fast reboot), boot into Recovery, Bootloader or Shut Down. Best dollar you will ever spend on an app.
So anyway, l strayed from my point. The problem you are experiencing is partially due to not having fully wiped your phones data/cache. I know you think you did it through the Clockwork app but from experience it doesn't work that well. There is a "flashable" file called Calkulin's Format All. It is in the DEV section posted in Calkulin's Rom section. It will clear everything except the contents of your SD card.
1. Boot into RECOVERY
2. find: INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD
3. select the Calkulin's Format ALL.zip file (your phone will be totally clean after this)
4. Again, choose INSTALL ZIP FROM SDCARD
5. Select the ROM you want to flash. (If it is a Cyanogen based ROM you will have to flash the appropriate Google Apps file after flashing the ROM. If flashing a Sense ROM the Gapps file is not necessary)
6. Flash Gapps file (Google apps if necessary)
7. Once this is done select REBOOT SYSTEM NOW
I feel confident that if you follow those steps you won't run into any bootloops!
I have added the Format All.zip file that I mentioned in my last post.
Little advice:
- take the time to do a Nandroid before flashing a new rom
- use Titanium to restore only the apps w/o the data. I know it's nice to restore everything the way you had it on the last rom but from my experience this has led to instability in the new rom. Also from my experience when you are on a SENSE rom and use Titanium to backup your files and data when you install a AOSP (like CM) rom and try to restore those files and data it won't even let you. Just something to keep in mind if you are switching between CM to Sense or vice versa.

Manually wipe you factory/data, cache, dalvik, then flash the rom with the latest gapps and you'll be good.

Wow, great post. Very informative and detailed, thanks a lot.
So why is creating a nandroid backup better than the ROM backup function in RomManager? I restored that rom once and it worked flawlessly. How does nandroid differ from the rom backup created in RomManager?
when you use clockwordmod recovery to wipe your phone the dalvik doesn't wipe with the wipe option you see on the main screen, i belive you will see the option to wipe it in the advanced menu

They are the same. ROM Manager boots you into recovery and nandroids for you. People have mixed experiences with ROM Manager. From my experience it is best just to boot manually into recovery and take care of all your flashing and wiping there.

So i just flashed cm7 the stable version, first thing i do is turn on my wifi, but when it obtains the ip adress etc, it keeps rebooting and turning off rebooting, and just keeps doing that over and over again. any suggestions?? anyone?
Have you tried reflashing it on a clean install? You also flashed gapps with it?
yes, i even wiped alll that thing like dalvik and all that good stuff and flashed gapps right after. this started happening to me with rc3 rc4 and now stable cm7, works fine with cm2

Well that's a no then. And the kernel is basically the heart of the phone operation. Different kernels do different things, but we can worry about that later.
Now I'd like you to backup your apps, then re-flash the rom completely, along with gapps.
If it is turning on Wifi only that causes the issue, it may be something with what is remembered in your wifi access points.
Delete your access point. Turn on Wifi and re-attach.

You should always do a factory like reset before flashing a rom.
When I went to CM7 I did this.
Ran a Nandroid backup of Stock rom
Ran the GPS Fix for CM7 before going to CM7
Cleared Dalvik cache
Cleared Cache
Cleared Data
Flashed CM7
Flashed GApps
ReBooted
If you used TB to backup everything on your old rom then ONLY install the Apps NOT the data. Also I have noticed that a lot of people are just running a Restore everything from TB that may have something to do with it. I only installed third party apps like barcode scanner, Game Fly, PicSay, Directv. Do not restore anything that was a system app from your other rom.
And so far everything has been great.
This is really bothering me. I've attempted to flash into MIUI but I am stuck on the boot screen and it's just staying there. I tried two different sources of MIUI, the latest being from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915527 - the thread for MIUI Evo 4G.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I don't know how to make this work. This has been my first try at installing a custom ROM. I already have a backup readily available.
I have tried removing my battery and restarting the phone. How do I fix my problem?
Edit: I have tried clearing dalvik cache and data cache. No go.

I'll first ask the usual question: did you wipe everything (factory reset/wipe data, cache, dalvik cache, system, boot, and sd android secure) before flashing the new ROM?
And have you tried to download from this site?
http://miui.us/
Use amon RA recovery, flash a format all zip (you can find it with a quick search) and then flash miui
Deck's + SZ + SuperCharger script + ViperMod script.
