Can u rename zip file? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a downloaded a rom but the of it is -1.zip and I wanted to know if changing it to pyromod.zip will affect it anyway?

Only if you ever want/need to flash it from Hboot (then it needs to be named PC10IMG.zip). If you flash it from recovery, it shouldn't matter what its named.

Rom Manager (CWM) not allowing me to backup my ROM.

I'm trying to make a backup of my current rom and when I go to Rom Manager and choose Backup current rom, it then says can't mount system. I then tried going directly into recovery to try it from there and it says the samething. Anybody else having this problem or is there something I'm doing wrong? When I first rooted my G2 I was able to backup my Stock Rom but now I can't.
I'm running GingerVillain 1.4 if that's any help.

Its bcoz u have old recovery...u need to flash new clockworkmod recovery 3.....coz gingerbread uses ext4 system....which old recoveries do not support
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
U just have to download the new recovery.img file which u can find in this forum easily....put that file in the root of the sd card....then open terminal on ur phone n type these commands:
su
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img
reboot recovery
Thats it....n remember to rename the file to recovery.img if its already not that...coz that makes it easy to type n remember...

Then u'll have the new recovery....and u can easily backup and restore ur gingerbread roms....for froyo roms u need the old recovery...for that the easiest way is to flash recovery via rom manager....hope this helps...

[Q] How would I go about restoring the stock radio after flashing another?

Before I flash I just want to make sure I can revert back to stock.
Real eassy. If you did the PC10IMG method just do the same thing.

Do you mean just flash the stock radio? If so, where would I get it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799208
Anyways just download the stock radio... Okay there's someone that posted a PC10IMG.zip just replace the radio.img that they have in the zip with the stock.

[Q] Have to rename HBOOT?

After some problems while flashing RCMix v7 with data++ i´ve some questions:
Do i have to rename the HBOOT .zip (linke PB99IMG_bravo_cm7 to PB99IMG) or can i simply flash it like Roms in the recovery?
Have you even read the instructions on alpharev.nl? Guess not otherwise you wouldn't be asking this.

Yes in other words.
Sent from CM7
1) rename the file PB99IMG_bravo_cm7 to PB99IMG, put it in your sdcard (not in any folder) and go into bootloader, it will start and flash itself
2) if you have ADB set up and working, you can push .img file through fastboot
Thank you guys.
@TheGhost1233: Yes i read it, but didnt get that it flashs itself in the bootloader.

Cannot flash radio.

I have tried several times to flash the new baseband radio. With 4EXT and I have tried rename file and fastreboot. Non works.
With 4ext I get massage I'm not allowed to flash etc ..
Am I missing something?
This will be the first radio I flash..I'm still on stock.

You can flash a new radio file .zip via CWR. It's very simple
I need to install clockwork recovery to be able to flash radio? I thought 4ext touch could do the job as well

Any recovery can.
Depending on your hboot, you may not be able to flash radio via recovery.
Flashing via fastboot is always better though.
I tried changing the zip file name and put it in sd card then boot phone into fastrecovery by holding back button and boot. But it doesn't recognize the file.... So I don't get any choice.

That's your problem. You can't flash radio via recovery with that hboot. You have to do it via fastboot.

Ok.... Did some searching.. Found out i had to extract the zip then flash the img file. Am i able to flash back and forth between radio versions. Also.. Do i need to reinstall the rom after the flash?

No need to reflash roms after radio change. A general rule to follow is that you don't mess with your radio if you don't have problems with your phone. One wrong move during flashing and it can brick your phone.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless like me, you have balls of steel and are still amazed that after what you've put your phone through over the years it still functions. Hell, it even survived me accidentally dropping it.... err.. against the err... wall...
