I just bought this xmi x-mini II speaker
the sound is incredibly loud and crisp and has very good bass for its size
when connected to my laptop, ipod or iphone...
while connecting it with my desire hd its volume has just enough loudness,
on max volume on phone and max on xmini speaker...
i wonder if how many power output from the 3.5mm earphone jack the desire hd have,
does it cause this or is it just a software issue since the speaker has built-in battery that could last up to 12 hours on normal playback so i guess power output is not an issue.
anyone got this speaker?

In other HTC phones they are known to.have low volume while listening to music specifically with over ear headphones. I have a HTC sensation which has this issue did HTC fix it? Is the volume louder while listening to music? How does it compare to other phones such as the iPhone or other HTC phones? My HTC sensation was extremely low compared to the iPhone or any other mp3 device it almost made me not want to use it as a mp3 player while using over ear headphones. I plan on getting the one X when it comes to the US.

My HOX definitely pumps more volume than my DHD, headphones AND speaker.
That was a major relief because I couldn't hear sh*t on my DHD
Power and quality of the sound is just a blast...
Beating almost all phone out there at the moment...

Interesting, two sets of RMAA results now are in agreement that it's rather poor. Check GSMarena's review.
To answer the OP: Looking at the objective results you will not be able to drive higher quality headphones adequately (things with 300ohm impedance for example, like many higher-end Sennheiser headphones), more sensitive headphones with impedances 70ohms or less should be doable (although they will sound quieter than with many other phones).
My bigger concern at the moment with regards to sound is the very low headphone output level, this simply does not have enough juice to power any decent pair of cans.
Is there any system level tweaks to increase the output level any more than it is?
I have a sneaky feeling HTC has limited the max output on the headphones.

Have you compared it to other phones such as *Phone or even the SGS2? I have them both and can confirm the output volume is much lower than them.
This is noticable clearly when trying to use them with some proper over the head headphones such as the Sennheiser HD650 or Beyer Dt770.

I don't understand why you are saying this, but I have noticed that the headset volume was high even compared to my ipod. I use two headsets Bose Mie2i and Klipsch S4i both were awesome with my phone.
I hope you haven't enabled beats audio.
I will accept you if you are talking about speaker out volume.
Drives my Sennheiser HD 25-1 II perfectly.
Interesting that some of you find it loud, considering GSMarena's tests show one of the lowest volume outputs I've seen recorded on a phone in a long time... Worth noting too that their results are similar to the RMAA results reported by a different site that were posted here at XDA, so more than one set of RMAA results in accordance now.
It's output would not be sufficient to power a high quality set of cans like the Senn HD650 without a headphone amp, the OP is quite right about that. The HD25-1 II are much easier to drive in comparison, I should know as I have a set of those and a set of LCD-2's which are much higher quality and more difficult to drive like the OPs Senns. The IEMs mentioned above are designed to be easily driven by portable sources, and more sensitive than even the HD25-1 II, so no surprise that they should sound loud enough.
Blows my ears off with my HD650s.
No issues here!
EDIT: I do listen quitely though, in all occaisions. But if at max volume it is a tad painful for me!

Interesting! Sounds like you have quite sensitive hearing?
I've got a set of Sennheiser HD 25-SP II and instantly noticed the lack of volume compared to my Gen 5 iPod (arguably the benchmark of portable music player sound), Galaxy S II, Galaxy Nexus and HTC Mozart.
Even the Monster Beats weren't that loud with this phone. GSMarena were spot on regarding volume.
It's not that we always listen to our music that loud we want to be able to if we choose. A bit like having 6Ghz worth of processing power in a mobile. Overkill yes and we'll unlikely ever use it but its good to know its there.

I just did a comparison in volume between my
- iPod 6G 120GB, Sound Check and EQ off, max volume
- HTC One X, beats audio off, max volume
through my Sennheiser HD25-1 II.
The One X is louder!
Both actually hurt my ears at this volume...
Overkill? No its called headroom for when we feel like using high quality headphones that need more juice to power them

I've noticed that my Nitro HD has trouble powering my Shure SRH840 headphones (44 ohms impedance), and I often have to turn it to max volume. In contrast, my little Sansa Clip can run these headphones without any problem, and it sounds much better than the Nitro HD IMO.
Does anyone know if the Nitro HD uses the Wolfson DAC found in iPhones and other cell phones, or if it uses something worse? Also, is there a way to boost the volume from this phone without using a headphone amp?
I believe the headphone jack is weak. My gym headphones plugged in are kinda weak. Same headphones plugged into my Sony WM-600 BT transmitter and it is LOUD!

Yes, the volume through this phone is definitely lower than my Sansa clip, and the SQ is worse.
Seen quite a few topics on this, seems no one has a solution.
What I'm trying to accomplish with this is to see if EVERY HTC One X has this problem of a hissing noise in the background.
The hissing noise sounds somewhat like television white noise, and is apparent when playing music at low volume and during quiet parts of a song.
Testing Method:
i) Using headphones/earphones/whatever that plugs in the headphone port,
ii) Play music or other audio.
iii) Turn volume down to zero (0%)
iv) Listen for the noise.
Repeat method with no headphones i.e. with speaker, and put speaker up to your ear (very close). Try and listen for the noise.
my one x has the issue too.
As far as i know this is not an issue and it's normal, try doing the same thing with any other device and you will hear the same thing, may be hard to notice sometimes but it's there ( I didn't notice this on my HOX until i read your thread )
I do have this hiss on my one x.It can easily be heard when the music is stopped and this hiss continues for a small second!
It drives me mad as I tend to listen to music on lower volumes compared to others...
Sent from my HTC One X
if it is for 2-3 seconds and then it stops, it's normal, not an issue, due to a low voltage signal the sound chip sends to audio device (whether that would be a simple earphone, or a full support Bluetooth audio kit) to announce that the sound broadcasting is finished... (fade out noise)
Same here.
At 0% volume mine does not hiss, however if I play a song then pause it there is a faint hiss for a second or two then it stops completely.
Here's another one, plug the charger in and here the buzzing/feedback through the earphones when charging...

No, the problem that I'm experiencing and trying to see if others experience is whether the hiss is happening DURING the music. I understand if you listen to music at above 50% you most likely will not hear it during the music.
Yes, I have got the same problem and it is caused by very poor SNR of One X DAC or analog circuit.
It is very annoying for me, as I use sensitive IEMs and my old HD2 has not got this issue at all - I just find hard to accept that I have to hear audio noise in 2012 flaghsip device. There are some workarounds possible that can POSSIBLY at least partially mitigate the problem:
1. Use less sensitive headphones
2. Use some kind of attenuator, like:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sound-lev...13488602?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item1e6f218cda
and increase listening volume at the same time
Issue confirmed. Could not believe that in this day and age I am confronted with such an obvious hiss on this top-of-the-line HTC phone.
Coming from the S2, I have not been impressed with the quality of the One X. I like the screen though, when I can't see any yellow spots, that is.

Will an external DAC help with this problem, if even usable with a phone?
Sent from my HTC One X
I probably should have said in my original post but yes I have the issue and noticed it....
Alternative was to use Bluetooth, I personally might get an APT-X adaptor thats portable so I can connect to my home cinema system or car stereo through the jack input....
I wonder if there's any One X without this problem, such as newer batches etc

If you can feed it a digital signal, then yeah, by all means it would help. I've not looked into it, I dunno if it's possible.
about 3 peoples said there it is normal so why continue this ? lol it have everything that make music,sounds.. its normal due to low voltage to earphones and there is currently no technology that can stop this noise...

Larger sample size. And also speaker out has this problem, not just headphones. And why other phones don't have this problem?

using music app or tune in radio connecting to my cars aux in via 3.5mm connection cable to utilize audio device and loudspeakers in car, and it is even more noticeable.. (the sound is great though) also you hear hiss and noises as inerference effect from the the engine clearly in silence between track changes

I have it as well, but im pretty sure iv heard the exact same noise on most consumer devices ive had like my ipod and old s2.. didnt even think about it till i saw this thread.
If it bothers you that much just email htc and see what they say...
Hello everyone,
So I recently got HOX and when I'm listening to music through in-ear headphones with an in-line mic the sound quality is really bad, somewhat dull and "incomplete". However, the sound quality gets back to normal when you hold the mic control button on the headphones or unplug the cable extension with in-line mic, or simply use another pair of headphones without a mic . Surprisingly enough, the same thing happens with bundled headphones. So I wonder if there is something wrong with settings or some other fault.
Thanks for any advice in advance.
