Awesome. Was running CM7 just fine. Even with 4G access and the WiMAX Keys checker telling me my keys were fine. Decided to flash a Sense-based ROM to do the 3G/4G speed fix (remove Sprint proxy)
I flashed the ROM, dialed ##3283#, entered my MSL, went to Advanced, changed HTTP PD Proxy port from 8085 to 0 and HTTP PD Proxy address from pd.vog.sprintpcs.com to 0.0.0.0.
I hit back, went to Data Profile, hit Menu, then selected 'Restore'. My phone rebooted.
It hung forever on Contacting Network on the hands-free activation after reboot. I hit Home key when I heard a notification and 3G was activated. I tried to use 4G, won't start. WiMAX key checker now says my RSA keys are gone.
I did the steps again, and again it never completed hands-free activation. If I go to Settings, System Updates, and try to update my profile it hangs at 'Preparing your network services'...
And now my 3G is about 100kbits/s... super slow. YAH!

The only things I can suggest are:
For 3G > Run the 3G fix on a sense rom
Wimax keys > Look through a backup, find the wimax image, then restore it in recovery; if not, then your keys are gone, period.
Have you ever made a nandroid backup of just your wimax or one that included your wimax? If so, restore it and see what happens.

Never backed up my keys. I also have an issue where my EVO will not flash any GB release, including the leak because my boot partition has bad NAND blocks. I'm hoping the release the OTA and I can unroot apply the OTA which will brick my phone then take it back to Sprint. My 1 year warranty is up in September... until then, no 4G.

To be frank...there's nothing you can do about your 4G.
As far as GB, just do a clean install and your should in theory be able to flash the regular CM7.
Yea, I can flash CM7 no problem. But any of the Sense-based 2.3 roms I can't because the kernel is too big.

I'm using the stock 8GB memory card and I flashed it no problem; have you tried making the recommended partition then reflashing?
I happened to check mine because of this thread...and they are missing. Oh ****. I have no backups right now. Looks like I will be loading the stock rom and taking it back to Sprint. Any suggestion on what my reason can be?

Don't tell them that your keys are gone because if you do they will know you rooted because that is the only way that they can be lost. They will then flag your account and you will have to pay insurance deductible. So. I sure hope your tech is not a douche.

Flash s-on zip, then run an RUU. Delete any rooting, unrooting, roms, mods, etc off of your SD card and take it in. Just play dumb. I had my 4g fail on my very first brand new, never been rooted Evo... so it's possible. I originally took it in because the usb port broke, but mentioned the 4g and the guy looked at me funny.
Be sure to fully unroot, because they'll try to factory reset the phone, boot into the bootloader, etc. Just tell them it stopped working out of nowhere, if they can't prove otherwise you'll be fine.
(from... Evo/MIUI/Tapatalk)
Do you have links to the S-ON and an RUU?
Thanks in advance.
I'm wondering if they will do anything for me since there isn't 4G in my town officially, but everyone has been connecting and using it for a few months now....

Ok I have been hearing these stories about people ****ing up their 4G radios. I want to know if I am ok. I rooted my phone when it was at 3.29 and then I decided to go back to stock by running the RUU. Since the RUU completely wipes the device are my 4G keys gone as well? I have no way to check because I am not in a 4G zone (don't even have 3G . I can't use the SDK method either.
you are fine....
No you are fine. The problem comes with people that make a nandroid backup of their phone with AmonRA 1.8 (which backs up the keys) and then they try and restore that backup on another phone. It overwrites the keys and screws up your 4G radio.
You are fine - just don't use a backup from one phone on another one. They only way you can do it is by erasing the key backup then restoring.
If you use clockwork you have nothing to worry about since it does not back up the RSA keys for the 4G radio.
Hope that helps.
Thanks. Phew that has taken a load off of my mind.
That is not true. I didn't flash another update from another phone and I lost my RSA keys. Its from flashing WIMAX updates. I guess some DEV's went based on their phones and either erased their RSA keys so when it comes to us it is null or it writes their information onto our phones. Maybe that is why everyone ends up with the same damn MAC addresses.
You could quite possibly lost your RSA keys. You won't know for sure unless you turn your 4G on and go through a connection loop (not sure if it works in non 4G areas), your MAC address is listed as the one everyone is getting when you turn on 4G, or you go through the SDK ADB method. Either way, if you lost 4G, you won't be able to go in for service or insurance claims till 4G comes to your area. Unless you actually go to a Sprint store at a 4G City, you won't be able to do much.
yup sekigah84 is correct....
best way to check is to follow the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797337
a little adb shell commands and you can find out.
Yes, but his question was with installing custom ROMS and going back to the original one. He said nothing about flashing new radios. That is why my response answered his question.
What you guys added is great extra info - but does not effect him as he was asking what happened when he wipes the phone - simple answer is nothing, unless he restores using a backup that has the RSA keys from another phone.
So again - no worries kid. Your wipe and reinstall of the ROM did nothing to wipe your phones RSA keys.

Touche. I misread along with your post that made me pass a brain fart. I apologize lol.
Although there is now a thread going around about Amon Ra not backing up RSA keys -.-
I hope to God it does cause I rather not have to root then unroot and then have to get a replacement from Sprint again.
To OP: Just don't flash WIMAX radio updates till its confirmed what is causing people to lose RSA keys and JUST IN CASE, use Amon RA and make a Nandroid Backup.

I recently tried this method listed below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984764
I did everything it told me to, then, after rebooting, am getting no data. At all.
I tried restoring a previous nandroid which was successful, minus getting the data back.
Then I tried doing a complete wipe/reflash of WarmZ, but got the error message (paraphrase) Something about script editor blah blah , long story short it said aborted and didn't work. I am currently restoring a nandroid backup atm, but if that doesn't fix it, some help would be seriously appreciated.
When I go back and check my settings through the editor I "restored" it just gives me a bunch of zero's.
I just want my data back, I can care less about faster speeds at this point.
Thanks for everyone's help.

Good luck. No, when I tried it, it didn't do anything beneficial. I originally tried it because for some reason or another, my data started locking up. So I tried the data profile trick hoping it would help. All it did was totally kill my data connection, so I had to flash to a CDMA based ROM, and update my profile in Settings. That fixed it for me. I hope it helps you too.

I don't know of a way to update your profile on Warm Z. It's a port of a GSM based ROM, and GSM has no way of updating manually since it is pushed by the carrier to phones. At least I think that's the way it goes.

I sold my old rooted EVO 4G running Cyanogenmod 7 RC2 to a buddy. I left Sprint entirely and made sure the ESN was/is clean. However my buddy said it won't activate on the Sprint system? He got transferred to a tech and when they try and do their special sprint ## whatever in the system to bring up a special menu nothing happens...
So has anyone activated a rooted [CM7] EVO on sprint before? What else can I try short of flashing back to a stock rom?
Thanks in advance.
Try this to return the Evo to stock activate it then you should be able to re-root the phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780141

I don't think it needs to be unrooted, but it does need to be on a sense rom. Flash sprint lovers, activate, then nand restore back to CM7.
You don't need to unroot, but your friends needs to flash a sense rom, myn's, sprint lovers, ect so it can work with whatever the tech is trying to do.
do the sense roms have something special in them or what?
Sense roms have all the framework, ect needed to work with the fixes. Its the same reason you can't do the gps fix on an aosp rom [CM7] and have to flash a sense rom, do the fix, then flash back.
Yep, flash to something with sense, call and activate, then flash back to cyanogenmod.

Thanks guys!
Just tell your buddy to open up ROM Manager, open the ROM list, scroll to the bottom, choose EVO Stock, and tap the top option. Check both Backup and Wipe, and let ClockworkMod flash the new ROM.
Once he's done activating, power off the phone, hold down VolDown+Power, switch to Recovey, and restore the newest backup on the SD card, then reboot.
Ta-da! New stock repo saves the day yet again! xD
The reason being, to do ## codes, he needs to be on a Sense ROM. ## Codes do not work on CM7.
that worked, thanks guys!
Can any of you guys running CM-7 Offical final release tell me if 4G WiMax is part of the CM build?
From what i can tell its not. But i am trying to get a confirmation before i go thru the trouble of rooting and installing that ROM.
Thanks.

Wimax is in CM7 final. I connected to 4G immediately after flashing it last night.
You could manually provision it, but the data password changes every time you do a change in the account, so it's going to be tough but doable. A sprint rep can give you the password if you ask nicely...
SprintZone + Sense Rom is what works 100%
If you want to manually provision it, run a shell and type this:
cd /sys/devices/virtual/usb_composite/diag
echo 1 > enable
the phone will drop you to your C: prompt and the phone is now in DIAG mode. You can use CDMA WS or QPST to provision it. After you're done you can do the same steps above but with a 0 to disable DIAG mode.

Need help fixing 4g. Dont know when it stopped working but I have tried other roms and no luck. I have updated the radio then the profile and then the prl, I rebooted and then did the wimax and profile and prl and deleted some wimax file like one of the post said to do. No luck at all
I then tried to unroot to see if sprint would swap it out. When I try to unroot it tells me my battery is less then 30% and the other ruus say they dont see my phone. I dont know how I rooted it but I think it was with unrevoked not sure.
4g says scanning then connecting and back to scanning thats it. I use mikrom 4.61 right now

Did you check your RSA keys with the app from the Market?
Is your battery less than 30%? If it is, plug it in. If you want to unroot, just dl the s-on zip, flash that, then place the PC36IMG.zip on the root of your SD Card and go to hboot and let it update.
I got it unrooted. I did the unrevoke on patch and tried like 5 zip files and one of them worked. So its stock but I don't think 4g is working yet ill know tomorrow when I goto work.
Now what is this thing from the market for? Never mind I looked it up. So if my key is lost what do I do then? Send it in?

Now you will try to get your phone replaced and because of people like yourself replacement warrenties get more strict and costs go up. Sorry for the rant it just really annoys me that people keep ruining their phones because they are clueless.

But what I see is once its gone its gone, not even a backup will help. One thing I did learn is that I'm staying with mik's Rom lol.
I rooted my evo and now I see a wimax backup in the recovery. I have never seen that in the backup of the recovery before. But many things have changed so could it be something they added in down the road? I rooted the phone when it first came out. But now I see what you are talking about the backup. Maybe next time someone can fill me in on that and not be such a ass.

It's easiest to do with Amon-Ra recovery, which you can find out about installing if you do a search for Amon-Ra 2.3. When using Ra, go to backup, and just check "Wimax." It'll backup just your wimax. Now, just go into your nandroid folder on your sd and add a "-wimax_key"to the end of the file name so you can remember it, and then put that backup in multiple safe places.
Are you sure it's your phone that is having the issue? Sprint could just have an outage. I've had some janky 4g coverage lately.
If it is your phone, what recovery and version are you running? All the new recoveries backup the Wimax keys. It's not true that "once it is gone, it's gone." I imagine you ran Unrevoked to root it which installs Clockworkmod recovery, so your original nandroid backup should have the keys backedup already. In that case you'd just need to wipe and then restore the nandroid. Upon doing that, it will also restore your Wimax key. DL the Wimax key checker from the market as previously mentioned and verify your RSA (Wimax) key is present. You are good to go if so.

Thanks for the info. It was the phone for sure and I must have had the very first recovery version because I never seen the wimax backup before. Now on my new phone I see the wimax and other things I can backup. So on this one I checked them all and did my backup So that must be why the backup I found didnt help me. I never thought about checking to see if the recovery had updates.
Somewhere along the lines, I lost my wimax keys and only realized it when I was in an area that actually has 4g (my hometown doesn't). I tried Flashing one my number of backups created in Amon 2.3 thinking I may have backed up the Wimax, but no luck, none of them had the backup. At one point, I remembered creating a backup using Clockwork, not sure which method. I found the backup in a Clockwork folder on my sd card and see there is a wimax image file that is over 12,000 kb in size. I was stoked thinking my keys were found! However, I recovered that ROM backup image through Rom Manager but Wimax checker says my keys are still missing?? Question is, if Clockwork created the wimax image, shouldn't the keys be there when I recover that backup? Is there anyway to see if that wimax image contains the keys? Someone please tell me there is hope! I have a feeling 4g will be coming to my area soon and don't want to have to lie to Sprint to get a new phone
I think if you have the actual key, there is a manual way to program them back into the device. Do you have the original key somewhere (AKA on box, etc.)
Follow the instructions here to check your wimax keys.
Ok, I looked manually at my sd card as well and see one of my nandroid backups also contains a wimax.img, but this one is only just over 2,000 kb. In both cases, restoring those backups didn't work. I will try the method you listed to see what I get. Should I do it from one of those images I backed up?
hmm.. curious... what version CWM are you using?
i'm thinking you might have to revert back to an older version like 2.6 or below to get it to work.

I followed the instructions listed and yielded results as they did. I got a firmware version and it listed my mac address. Now what? It says OK next to everything and doesn't show any signs of error. My Wimax tag passes, it reads the wimax partition ok,etc. says my firmware version is R4623-evo-kddi. I am wondering though, would my backups that have the wimax.img not be recover that portion since I have upgraded my wimax radio since those backups were made?? Perhaps downgrading my wimax radio to an earlier version would correct it? Help please!!!

Not sure what version I used when I created the backup. Are you suggesting restoring the image in an earlier version of CWM will get it to work?
Bump...
Easy fix
Get your wimax.img the one that's larger, put it in the root of your sdcard, open terminal ( get one if you don't have it) gain root permission by typing su
Then type
flash_image wimax /sdcard/wimax.img
Then reboot
Ok, i tried this from terminal and it returned the following error:
mtd: not writing bad block at 0x00260000.
So, what the hell does that mean? A bad image or a bad part of my sd card? Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it!
You have a bad memory block in your WiMAX partition,
3 options
First, continue to flash the img in terminal until success.
Second, give up and accept defeat understanding no mo fo gee.
Third, get another Evo
Ok, so for ****s and giggles, I did the said method only this time with the smaller 2000 kb wimax.img. It flashed fine, I rebooted, and now wimax keychecker says my key is there!! I wont be in a 4g area until next week to verify, but it should work now, correct? When I turn the 4g radio on, it says turning on and then scanning! Thanks for all the help, its much appreciated!
Sent from my Evo, with renewed 4g!
If key checker said good, your golden
so, let me get this straight. If I never nandroid backed up my phone w/ stock rom on it, shot a 3g only rom, my 4g wimax key could be gone and I'll never be able to get 4G again?
question still stands, but I found the backup the wimax rsa key thread and it seems by phone had its keys still intact
Flashing a 3g only Rom doesn't wipe your keys, making a backup then will still back them up.
OK, so tonight I was in Minneapolis and tried to connect to 4g but couldn't. I verified my wimax keys are in place but still won't connect. It says turning on, then scanning, then connecting to Sprint, tries to connect but then back to scanning, connecting to sprint, over and over. I updated profile and prl and tried again, but still won't connect. What's next to check?

Just to be clear, keychecker says my wimax keys are present, I have verified my mac address is correct and the 4g radio turns on. However, I know I was in a strong 4g area in Minneapolis but it wouldn't get past the connecting to sprint line. I am running Fresh Rom 3.5 and have flashed the most recent wimax radio, updated profile and prl. Any ideas? Please help!
