Any reason to think the Nexus S 4g ROM would work on the epic? Aren't basically the same hardware?

There are still differences between them. NEVER flash a rom from a different phone on the epic.
Not development. Moved to Q&A.

So does anyone here know if we will be getting MIUI for the epic touch? And if so do you know when we will be getting it? It was my favorite rom for my evo 4g and i would love to see it on this phone. Thanks
It will be ported eventually yes. We need aosp kernels.

If you flash miui from the gs2 with our kernel it works great except for the phone... Camera works, wifi is easy to get working ect..

We'll get it if or when a developer picks it up. If your anxious maybe pm some of the developers to see if they will pick up the project.... Just a idea.

I believe lithid-cm already started to work on it indirectly. By indirectly I mean they need a working AOSP kernel/build first. So that's what he is working on right now. I believe the kernel is giving them issues.

It would be really nice of Cyanogen would put out the AOSP kernels along with the stock one because he works for Samsung now.
Just an idea

What is the difference between the aosp kernel and the Samsung kernels, why does miui and cm7 need aosp kernels?

Not sure why either but I asked lithid-cm the he said they NEED the AOSP kernel/source to work properly, before porting MIUI.

It will usually boot with touchwiz kernel but most of the time 3g 4g touch screen and calls wont work that is why u need aosp kernel . The drivers need to load toake things work .....we have multiple teams working on it teamhacksung and cyanogen team ..... It will happen patience my little padawan....

I rocked Miui on my OG EVO 4G almost exclusivly.
Having finally jumped ship to a stock phone (I rooted ;-)) there are some concerns with going back to miui:
1) NO 4G!!!
2) On Evo, there was no 720p recording with Video... I'd hope we can take advantage of our 1080p cameras!
3) DATA WAS SLOW
That's it... If those 3 things were fixed I'd be happier than a stuffed pig!!
MIUI PROS:
1) customizable like no other!
2) smooth
3) Clean UI
4) overall fun to use

It's not gonna work. That's for the international GSII and is GSM. We need the CDMA version.
i believe that rom is not for our variant of the phone

dont brick your phone. never flash a rom from a different phone.
And please search. There are a number of threads asking this same question.

I've tried Starburst ROM, Criskelo and Lite'ning. They all flash perfectly fine but when my phone boots up I have no service. Any advice? Please help. I'm a noob. By the way I have an SPH-D710 if that helps any.
Try staying on stock and then root with stock kernel
If that works its all good just flash a custom rom on top of that and reflash the rooted stock kernel
If thats a no ho try lost kernel
Also viper rom i think has lost kernel built in
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Right now I flashed my phone back to the stock kernel are you saying I should use a different one? Sorry I'm just new to this android game.
Maybe you're doing the same thing I was doing. The Galaxy S2 and Epic 4G Touch are two different phones. The GS2 uses a SIM card, so if you have a GS2 ROM, then you won't have service since it's looking for a SIM card. Check to make sure you're downloading a Epic 4G Touch ROM so that you don't get bricked like I did. -_-
What ROMS can I use for an Epic 4G?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
First you need to make sure you're getting the right Roms for your phone...are you confusing epic 4g with epic 4g touch? Two different phones...

I've been around for a bit from the tmo dash to the touch pro to the evo and soon to the epic touch. I have a few questions which i hope some of.you can help me with. Does this have the same weak radios and horrible battery of the ns4g? And what's with all these build numbers fh this and that? What would changing the modem do? Is cwm still the most popular recovery? And finally, it has ics on it so will I be able to root?
I have been trying to read but I'm getting confused. I was able to only update the radios, rom and kernel now there are all these options.
Thanks in advance for any useful info

I had to root the evo through adb shell. I was too impatient to wait for a one click solutuon. That was a pain and a process. I've read that the et4g is one click root so I'm happy

Thanks for the replies. From reading I'm gathering that a modem is the same as a radio? And do I have to look at anything before I can just flash away (I mean in terms of being compatible). I hear these are easy to brick also...

Just look for the newest one download the .zip and flash through recovery. It all depends were u live radios r different for every phone a new modem might not work as good as a old one so just download a couple and which works better.

I got this from a friend who is getting an iPhone. He just had his S2 replaced like a month ago so I get a new phone for cheap. Im holding out my upgrade for a quadcore phone. I refuse to go with the LG only because I dont think the developer or factory support will be there. This should make my wait more bearable with my huge leap from NS4g.
I have jelly bean right now with everything working ok (except the massive battery drain) on my NS4G. Anything close to that on this phone? How is the developer support? Im coming from a phone with ok support and maybe like 3 choices that are updated consistantly.
Yes all modems are compatible with any rom and we have cm10 and aokp versions of jellybean. The brick issues are much much less now that we developers have identified the problem and made safe recoveries. Don't flash anything in stock recovery.
Hello I bought a use epic touch, the calibration on it was fine. Until I downgraded it using Odin? I don't know what cause it. I have tried two ways that qbking explains https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKECs764ayE&feature=youtube_gdata_player I'm using my other phone.

You need to post in the proper device thread. According to QbKing you have an Epic 4G / not a Epic 4G Touch. Don't know what your problem is exactly but if it ain't slow rotation, you may have to check the corresponding thread for your phone.

Still not sure what phone your talking about?
Check your model # is it SPH-D700 or SPH-D710.?

If your talking about your auto rotation issue, that's going to be tricky because I can't remember seeing anyone having issues like that on the E Touch.
You can try calibrating your sensors and then flash a STOCK rom without moving the phone. You must try a stock build that will reset your phone, this way if there is something screwed up it can be fixed by flashing a stock rom.
Try a jellybean build like Garwynn's Ga10 or newer.
