BRAVIA Engine seems only work in system Gallery/Video Player applications.
Really *s_cks*

up.. any others want to share?

didnt really notice any changes..lol.

What codec should be downloaded here for Mobo Player, for Xperia Arc?
Code:
http://www.moboplayer.com/moboplayer_en.html
Choices:
ARM V7_VFP
ARM V7_VFPV3
ARM V7_NEON
I know Arc is ARM7, but which specific here? Is it correct to choose NEON (as indicated in /proc/cpuinfo)?

Use mx video player, better..

Yes, Bravia Engine works for any Video player as long as you use Hardware coding, else if you use Software decoding you"ll notice that it's different, give it a try.
I also recommend MX Player, its better.

Thanks, trying it now. Is it important to download the arm 7 codec or can stand alone? Thanks!

VLC is pretty great for being an alpha. Stock player is still the best though.
Nothing beats stock player atm. I'm on CM7, so I don't have the flawless Samsung player, hence I also need a replacement. The best I've got so far is mobo player, however it can't handle HD videos that well. There's also Rock player, but to me it seemed even worse than Mobo player. I've also gave VLC player a try, but in this alpha stage it's unusable; it has lower than 1 FPS on HD videos. So, I'm waiting for improvements on either of them.
I use QQPlayer for playing RMVB files. Super I should say
Vplayer, all the way.

Multi audio track in single file.
Single MKV/MP4 file may have 2 or more audio track.
some players like dice,mx can choose audio track.
Ohk. Thanks

There seems to be 2 Mobo players on the market. The original one, and a "newer" one. No idea if the newer one is legit or notably different.
Generally, there is very little the stock player won't handle, if you find something then Mobo seems to be able to deal with it.
My Samsung Galaxy s2 Stock Media Player dosent play ac3 Audio files or Mp4 Files with Ac3 audio decoded. I was able to play those using Dice player or rockplayer. But i dont have an option called 5.1 to enable on those players unlinke stock player.
The official Samsung Site or other specification gives the specification (This is from wikipedia)
For audio it supports (FLAC, WAV, Vorbis, MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, MID, AC3, XMF). For video formats and codecs it supports (MPEG-4, H.264, H.263, DivX HD/XviD, VC-1) and video formats (3GP (MPEG-4), WMV (ASF) as well as AVI (DivX)).
Issues:
1. Stock Media Player dosent play ac3 Audio files or Mp4 FIles with Ac3 audio decoded (Stock Media Player gives the Option 5.1 to be enabled but ac3 not playing)
2. Other players play it Under software decoding, But main Problem is 5.1 isn't working with Head phones
I googled and found some Users were able to Play it with stock media Players. Read something like "I dont have any problem playing those files, I just copy and play them"
I am now confused is this happeneing with my device alone, So guys how do you dea this?
Please reply so that i would be grateful to you guys
Until someone makes video codec for the sg2 Mali gpu, no software codec will be able to handle high res video better than the stock video player, or lower res video with the same battery efficiency.
That being said, audio decoding and subtitle handling don't need that horsepower, and more and more players mix stock decoder hardware features for the video part and software management for the rest.

Something is wrong or missing, can't really give you an answer because I never seen that happen before. Should give more info about the file your trying to play.
Besides that, why not just stick to the 3rd party apps. I stop using stock since it barely plays anything correctly compared to both MX and Dice player anymore. Or is that 5.1 sound effect really that necessary to you?

ARC S 720P MKV File Playback

Ok - have spent an hour or two scouring the posts on here but as yet haven't managed to sort out jumpy playback of 720p MKV files - ranging from 100Mb to 3Gb. Have used rockplayer, a trial of diceplayer and some other players. But as yet no avail.
Please could someone give me some pointers as to what to try next?
Thanks in advance.
Try MX PLAYER

Yes Mate it can. I just tried with a movie trailer that was 1080p just wanted to make it work that's all. All other videos I have are in 720p format. I tried lot of other players but only MX seems to work fine.
Try turning off Bravia engine. Even with MX Player I had issues playing HD movies, but with Bravia Engine off, everything works perfectly (even without MX Player).
I think SE did some good optimization in recent firmware because at 2.3.2 firmware I had issues playing the videos regardless of whether I used Bravia Engine or not and at that time MX Player was definitively helpful.
Try out BSplayer lite too, it has hardware-accelerated software decoding.

Mx player codec?

Hi guys, in play store I found 2 or more codec packs written for arm v 7, arm v 6 like that.. which one should we install for one x?
Cool....)
MX Player didn't ask me and I didn't installed any codec. It works fine. On MX Player's Google Play page, says:
MX Player will test your device and show you the best matching codec automatically if it is necessary. You do not need to install codecs unless MX Player asks.

MX Player comes with the ARMv7 NEON codec built in which is the one our phone needs. The rest are for other phones.

Stream HD TV from FreeBox
Hello All!
Mx Player is a good product, thx.
But i can't get any sound when streaming a HD TV from my FreeBox (Internet and TV supplier).
I did install ARMv7 NEON codec but nothing better. tried too to use S/W decoder for audio, but no.
video is good but no audio.
how could i solve this?
Google video reader has not the audio too, VLC has the sound (but video has lags)
do i have to install other codecs or is my tablet CPU power too low?
Android 4.1.1 JellyBean ARMv7 Processor rev 0 (v7l) JRO03C.v003 -> 1512.0MHz double core
Stream format : video MPEG-4 / audio AAC.
thx,
Alain (from FRANCE)
Hello. H/w does not play every video, cos h/w is the same with stock player. When I turn on program decoder I can watch every video I want; actually in any format. I haven't downloaded any codecs, I just installed the app. Notice that I use old version of MX player, I don't update it cos I have heard that there're issues in new versions.

[Q] Playing MKV files on phone

I bought an Xperia SL recently, solely for the purpose of watching videos. Most of the videos I download have the mkv extension and are 720 - 1080p. I downloadedcl MX Player along with its codec and started the video. The video only works on software decoding and desyncs + lags like hell. I dont want to convert it, as I want to download and watch straight away.
Could you help me out? (except saying that download in some other format)
The stock movies app works for me
Posted by Xperia™ Ion via xda-premium
Try BS Player. Played everything I threw at it with HW decoding.
The stock player just shows a black screen. As does mx player on hardware decoding.
Try MX Player Free or Pro version. Make sure you use the latest one. It played every file i tried.
While playing change the decoding to HW/SW depending on your need. HW is set by default.
Search for MX player in Google Play.
stock movie app is working for me too on .mkv file.

@entermetallica:
Same answer as allways.
MKV is no videoformat, it's a container that can consist of audio and video in different formats.
Download the video on a PC, use VLC to view it and then goto Extra/Codec Info.
Post what's there, esp. Mangas are known to use way out of spec coding parameters.
or...
Use VLC like a man
DicePlayer is also a good option.
mx player
try SW, HW and HW+ modes
I use the lastest version of both BSPlayer and MX Player Pro(16bit).
Both play .mkv 720p 6-channel audio movies using HW acceleration on my XPERIA LT26i. I haven't tried 1080p .mkv
BSPlayer uses it's own HW engine and defaults to HW encoding.
MX Player Pro needs to have the HW options enabled in the application settings first.
My XPERIA X10i Adreno 200 running GB 2.3.3(sony fw) uses HW encoding in 720p .mkv movies.. so I'm very sure it's got to work on an XPERIA LT26i Adreno 220 ICS 4.0.4(sony fw)
What firmware are you running???
If you've installed some sort of JB fw ... then true, you may lose HW encoding if the Adreno 220 drivers are not HW enabled in a given firmware not supplied by Sony/Qualcomm.
I use Handbrake on Win7 to encode/decode videos which have default Android and/or HD video settings.

Yup, you've hit the nail on the head. Most likely a codec that's not supported, MKV container is supported by the stock video players and most players form the Google Play market. If we could have a list of codecs that are supported by our Xperia S/SL that would maybe help clearify things.
Using H264 video codec and ACC or AC3 audio in my .mkv container and that's fine with XPERIA S and gives HW acceleration.

MX Player - Codec Issue?

I have a bunch of movies that came with a digital copy, these are transferred over as WMV files. I did some research, found that MX Player was the most recommended to use, installed it and tried to watch a movie. But, there is no sound, and the picture is, well, its not even a picture. It's just a mess, which leads me to assume I need a codec.
I downloaded and installed the ARMv7 NEON codec, but it made no difference. So, what am I doing wrong? The only thing left that I can think of is that there is some ridiculous DRM on the files, and that is preventing them from playing.
Thanks.
Try this codec

I compiled the mx player codecs myself a little while ago, with the option to have as much codecs as possible. I mainly did it for the DTS codec, but maybe it works for your problem as well. I uploaded them to mega: https://mega.co.nz/#!dVVixSYZ!eT6VBXcrFJI7YFvg0c3DhQWG64odKg04CR0_OYD0YRI . Just unzip them and select the folder as your custom codec folder in decoder settings.
I really hope it's not a DRM thing. I hate DRM.
