i have to go to work now but gonne look into this tonight
thanks
Edit: would you like to test this file it looks indeed a different widget version then the apk i had.
i made it transparant

It's Ok now !
The only think is that with the transparent email widget you can't read the text because of the text colour, that is grey and sometimes black, so it is not visible
Suggestion : It would be better to change the text colour in white as the weather widget, in order to read the text with something clearer, I've tried with 3 different walls :
but perhaps it will be better with the semi-transparent...
The original apk has a white background, that's why we can read perfectly with the grey/black text, but with a transparent one, the text has to be white

any nooby instructoin as i cpyued the apk file using root and it wouldnt load do i just copy the apk thx
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App

-You choose on the 1st post if you want semi or completely transparent.
-You download
-You need root explorer installed on your phone
-You put the downloaded apk on your phone on the internal SD card
- Open root explorer
- Go in system/app/and search "SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk"
- when you found it long press on and "copy"
- go back with the return key and go to sd card
- now choose external sd and click paste (you can see it bottom right)
Like that you have firstly saved the original folders.
Now to install the new ones :
- always with root explorer go to sd card (not external sd)
- choose SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk you have just downloaded
- long press and "move"
- go to system/app
- click mount/rw on top (like that you can replace the apk)
- bottom right click paste
- it ask you if you want replace, say yes
- close root explorer
- press add new widget, choose weather widget and its now transparent
(sorry for my english)

Anyone have the original e-mail widget .apk for sgsII. I think I need that to flash back first to have semi transparent worrking again. I have found when I flashed full transparent then tried semi.. nothing changed.

Can confirm the new test file works fince on my KE2 with KDD-OC Kernel.
Any updates on the Semi Transparent ? Its almost impossible to read the text; but even this is better than the original from Samsung...
As an alternative; the text could been White/yellow using BOLD etc for read/unread, still using the full transparent version

Editing APKs to match themes (Not just app icons!)

I've never started a thread here, as I rarely have a unique idea - but this time I've decided to bite the bullet and share my experience.
It has been discussed on these forums about editing the APKs for non-stock apps in order to make the icon match the theme throughout the OS (as opposed to using Bettercut or similar to just change the homescreen icon). It has also been discussed elsewhere, but I can't find the link.
My problem was very similar, yet different, so I figured I'd play around and see what I could come up with.
I use the unbelievably sexy GlossSuite theme by Moonsspoon which uses this cool little icon in the notification bar to alert you to having a new SMS (and maybe MMS, not sure...).
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
I also use the app from the market called SMS Popup. If you dont know what it is, check it out - very handy. One of my favorite features of the app is that you can use it for your SMS notifications, and it allows you to set a custom vibe pattern and it will flash the LED the color of your choice - both very helpful to let you know that it's an SMS you're getting instead of a call or whatever...
You need to turn off the native SMS app's notifications when you use this feature of SMS Popup so that you dont get 2 alerts every time you get a message. The drawback to this, while using a theme like GlossSuite, is that the notification icon for messages that SMS Popup uses is the stock icon:
This is only a problem if you're OCD like myself.
I had already gotten the png icon extracted from the GlossSuite theme in hopes that I could just swap it out with the icon inside the SMS Popup apk (if I could find it, that is).
So I decided to crack open the APK for SMS Popup and see if I could find the icon used and what I could do to make it use the icon from the GlossSuite theme.
Inside the APK in the /res/drawable folder there are 2 images: The app's icon, and the icon used in the notification bar. And to make it even easier, the file name was exactly the same as the file used by the GlossSuite theme! Easy enough!
I used 7zip (WinRAR should work just fine too) to:
1. Open the APK
2. Navigate to the /res/drawable folder
3. Delete the stat_notify_sms.png
4. Drag and drop the png I extracted from the theme into it's spot
5. Delete the META-INF folder inside the SMS Popup APK
-- I got this info from the previously mentioned thread about swapping non-stock icons. It is so that when you resign the APK in the next step, the keys don't conflict with what the APK dev has used (or something like that - I admittedly don't know anything about keys and signing and all that jazz)
6. Close your archiving application.
I then used this auto-signing tool posted by "Dave Da illest 1" to resign the APK using the testkeys. It had to be edited slightly to sign APKs instead of ZIP files. If you want to download my edited version of the auto-signing tool, click here.
Uninstalled the previous version of the app, copied the APK over to my SDcard and then used AppManager to install the APK, and now:
(yes, I know there are typos...)
It works!
I'm sure most of your brainiacs here at XDA have figured this out on your own, but I couldnt find any solid information on it so I figured I'd share what little knowledge I had on the subject.
If you want to try this for yourself and want the icon from the GlossSuite theme, it is here.
And if you just happen to have GlossSuite installed and are using SMS Popup and would like my already edited version of the APK, click here.
[DISCLAIMER: If my sharing of this APK goes against any rules of the forum, please excuse my ignorance. If I find out this is the case, and a mod hasn't beat me to the punch, I'll gladly remove this link!]
So - with all that being said, I should clarify that I haven't done any theme creation (although I have edited a few pngs here and there, but nothing major), so obviously this bit of information is probably well below most of you... But if it can help anyone, then yay for my first real contribution to this community.
Awesome find. When I finally settle on a version I think I will sit down and do this for a few Apps. I havent heard anything on it before so as far as I'm concerned your the first!
|Spike|
i am trying to do something very similar- i am trying to install the file below as my status bar icon but when i use your autosign app (and the other auto sign app) i still get a "this cannot be installed on your device" or something similar....
did you have this issue ever?
After resigning with your tool did you then name it back to what is originally was or did you leave the name as to what the autosign converted it to?
fixed. apparently you need to uninstall the app first. wonder how this affects updates of it in the future?

Yeah thanks for pointing this out - I added the "remove old version" step to my information in the original post.
And since the process goes as such, as far as the Market is concerned, the app isn't even installed on the phone, so I would assume that you won't be notified of updates.
And, of course, if you manually notice an update in the Market and install the app from there, you won't have your changes in place... would have to go thru the process again I believe.
That's where aTrackDog comes into play.
Keep all your apps uptodate even if the market doesn't know.

yeah- for sure. now that i have flashed to 5.0G none of my apps show up in my downloads so i stick with atrackdog. i am wondering if an update is found by atrackdog will it be able to be installed over the top of the altered one we have installed....
2. Navigate to the /res/drawable folder
Am I supposed to open the APK on my phone or computer? I can't find this folder.

Its simply just replace the image with your own, resign, install and you're good to go. Heres an example of what you could do.
I made this months ago but didn't think it was anything special so i never said anything. Lighting bolt at the top is the triangle notification.

For non-stock apps, you can use a free app called AppManager to copy non-protected apps to your SD card.
Or, you can just use the terminal emulator
cd data/app
ls
[shows a list of all non-protected apps installed]
cp [filename.apk] /sdcard/[backup folder of your choice]
This same method can be used for protected apps if you can find the correct folder... But I won't provide that info, because I'm sure that's against the rules of these forums.

For softkeys
go Startmenu/settings/today and select theme energy 2008
For the weather bar i think its a bug on the sencity theme.... select another weather/clock view...
If they dont fix it in the next version i will try to fix it
Yes, if select another clock its ok like yours.
I've already tried the themes 2007 and 2010, tried now 2008 soft reset but looks like 2007, the buttons don't look like yours.
Thanks
Great work colossus_r
Can you post the file(s) with the gray bubble for the sense messaging tab and lockscreen, please? Mine's still blue
Have you noticed that, when you have a new message, if you go to the messaging tab, the alert bubble remains under the slider? I wonder if this is a bug, or is it supposed to be like that?

This is weird... With your first set of icons, for example, the icon from PIM Backup was changed after copying the files to \Windows folder, and now, with the full set of icons it remains with the original icon that NRG placed in is ROM
EDIT: Found the problem for this... Some of the icons aren't replaced in \Windows folder, and both remain theme, the original and the one from your iconset, but the name of one of them is in CAPS, like this: startpim.png (the original) and STARPIM.PNG (the one from your iconset)... Any solution for this? I copied the files with Total Commander! Copying them with Resco File Explorer gives this error (with one of the unchanged icons): "Cannot copy file 'startie.png'. System cannot write to specified device."
colossus_r, can I make a request? Can you fix the multimedia, office and main settings folder icons, so that they become more similar to the rest of the folders?
For example, in the internet folder icon you used a different template and placed a small folder in the bottom right corner. The three folder icons I mentioned above don't have that.

For the copy of the files i allways use the Resco Explorer and never had any problem like this...
if the problem is still there after softreset let know and i make a mortscript for you to auto copy the files.
I've edited my post above... Tried with Resco Explorer, but no luck, even with several soft-resets in between
Gone flash the ROM again, maybe something went wrong (I did make a HR after flash, but who knows...)
EDIT: After a preliminary investigation LOOOOL, the guilty files are: STARTRDP.PNG, STARTRS.PNG, STARTWCM.PNG... These files do not replace the original icons, and after being copied to the \windows folder can not be deleted, although the original file is also present and not replaced as it should be...

Removing Battery Icon MB4

1) T-Mobile (and probably others) Note 2 has to be rooted.
2) Copy your SystemUI.apk file (from system/app) to your PC.
3) Open it with WinRAR or other archiving program
4) Go to the res\drawable folder
5) Delete stat_sys_battery.xml (or rename it to .xmbak)
-- you can delete the charging one too but I like to see my stuff charging...
6) Repack the .apk using WinRAR
7) *** SAVE YOUR ORIGINAL SYSTEMUI.APK!!! ***
8) do this by renaming your existing SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.bak
9) Copy the new SystemUI.apk to your system/app folder.
10) Reboot and enjoy. Worked for me, should work for you.
DISCLAIMER - I am not responsible if you screw anything up, which is why you should ALWAYS back up your phone and the SystemUI.apk before screwing with it.

Note: com.android.systemui has stopped working because I'm an idiot and didnt name the file correctly... learn from my mistake LOL!
There any way u can post ur .apk I am not home and will like to try this ty
Yup. Here it is.
NOTE: I am running a T-Mobile Galaxy Note II with Frosty JB v7.5 (see my signature) - I am newer to all this stuff so use this at your own risk, again backup prior to changing anything!! I actually copied the apk that came with the ROM and made 2 backups of it and then put my new file in place, renamed it to SystemUI.apk, and over-wrote the existing one. worked like a charm.
just a quick question, If I edit stat_sys_battery to where I add maxLevels for all 100 %s and add drawables for them, would this make the 1%Mod??

It works prefect ty
You're welcome Now I need to find out how to make this a "Mod" and flashable from recovery... I have to learn more of this stuff, I love it!

DISCLAIMER - I am not responsible if you screw anything up, which is why you should ALWAYS back up your phone and the SystemUI.apk before screwing with it.

thanks for this, tried your apk but center clock is blue. i decided to mod the systemui and all works. thanks
Two things.
1) I couldnt find the old post, but Foreverloco was the one a while ago that said to do it this way, so a big thanks to him also. I could not remember so I was messing with it today and remembered how to do it.
2) Also, the center clock is blue - not sure how to change that pulled it from another mod, I didnt make it centered that was from the post in themes for the deodexed addons.

I'm doing some research now, actually, on that. I love the center clock but that was something I flashed. I want to learn how to make an entirely custom status bar up top, so that's going to be my new project (and first) I think.
let me know please would like to move the clock, i have n2 tmo, tried the apk but made my whole status bar disapear, so i went in manually and did it works fine, thank you
There's one HELL of a good guide here on all this stuff...

and also
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1237528
I think changing the clock to center requires mod in frameworks or mod in systemUI, that means need to use apktool. Tried this once with my gnex, trial and error
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
I've been playing with it. I have decompiled and recompiled the SystemUI.apk a few times last night and this morning before work and changed around a little bit of things like font sizes and colors... just need to find out where to change the size and color of the battery percentage text and then do some nicer icons and my status bar preferences will be all good
I'd also like to modify the weatherbug apk file needed to make the temperature text in the status bar match the rest of it, because its darker than the other blue I have picked out... so we'll see this weekend how it goes.
And they just replied on the post for APKTool... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39660963#post39660963

Yes, you must add all the 100 % to the XML and also put all PNG to drawable-xhdpi, you should change also stat_sys_battery_charge.xml like stat_sys_battery.xml to make the 1% mod also available when your phone is charging.
Gave it a try worked great thanks

EDIT---> decided to play around with the air-command icons after seeing GalaxyS4Man's thread over in at&t note 3 land....and made a few of my own little mods using most of GalaxyS4Man's files...just tweaked and added my own
Blue Ring

.........new pics below 3rd post !!!
***Ok here's a guide and some files to get ya going.....this is not hard or timely so don't stress no decompiling etc..
Copy your framework-res.apk from phone or from downloaded rom zip of your current rom(...just for good measure) then copy to pc and use 7zip to view the framework-res.apk . Go to the "res" folder then navigate to "drawable-xhdpi" then find the files with matching names from the zip I posted (they'll be clustered together) delete those and then select and drag and drop my files into the folder.
Next copy your modified framework-res.apk back to your phone's sdcard (int or ext) and use a root explorer program to copy and paste the new file back into the system/framework folder....NOW realize this as soon as you copy the new file into place your phone is going to reboot automatically don't panic AND DON'T DELETE YOUR CURRENT FRAMEWORK-RES.APK.....COPY AND OVERWRITE IT just do it that way...Remember after your phone reboots TO GO AND CHANGE PERMISSIONS then REBOOT MANUALLY......PROFIT !
Please hit thanks if this HELPS
If you'd like to quickly test each one my suggestion is:
Needed-----
1) computer....(guess you could use phone...but ouch!)
2 )zip file of your current rom on computer.....or just copy out the framework-res.apk from your system to sdcard then to computer
3) 7zip or other archive handler
4) about 550mb of space on int or ext sdcard
My method has been to grab the "framework-res.apk" in question and then select copy and paste an instance of the apk into each separate theme folder.....then one by one open the folder.....open the apk with 7zip...navigate to res/drawable-xhdpi and drag the icon files from the folder into the apk pressing yes to perform the operation......go through and do this to each theme then throw all the theme folders into a single folder and copy this to your phone.......
Then when ready to try use your root explorer navigate to your chosen theme select copy and then navigate to "system" folder....I then go to the "vold" folder and paste the framework-res.apk in there (temporarily) I then change the permissions and after changing the permissions I then select MOVE and move the file into "system/framework" and then select do a Hot Restart.....system loads right back up ready for testing.....follow these steps to run through and find the one that suits you the best......
******MY FILES IN POST #3******
Here is a "partial" theme Created by thermax04 over in the galaxy N3 forum, check out his thread and hit his thanks button for allowing us note 2 users access to his hard work.......http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2655984
This is just a partial theme....I will not be taking requests at this time to add or remove things (can be done yourself). I have just themed the parts of the rom that I like themed, If I do more I will add it here.
I'm posting a dropbox link that contains he modded apks...it is not flashable, however grab the files with a root explorer program and add them to their perspective locations One By One (renaming original apk by adding .bak to the filename) and then copy over modded apk and set permissions. Some of the files may cause a soft reboot before you are able to set permissions....Just be sure to go back and set permissions after it reboots.
Once you have added the files the results will be like the screens below.....Enjoy and take a moment to head to thermax04's thread and hit his thanks button.......and hit mine too as it took a while to resize this for our phone.....enough blah blah....here's pics and link ENJOY

Hey did your icon change WORKED PERFECTLY!!!! Used the red one AWESOME!
If I could take a screenshot with the new AirCommand icons I would show you. VERY VERY easy process. Question...could you do the same process to change other icons in the ROM. I imagine you could as long as you renamed them the same. Not sure as far as resolution for icons go though.

[MOD][4.4.2][STOCK] White based themes in different flavors / Red! Theme released

Instructions:
just flash the zip with recovery. make sure to make a backup before flashing.
if you are on odexed rom, not to worry, i'm on odex as well, but i deodexed the settings.apk, so just do the same thing and make sure you delete your settings.odex file (make a copy of that, too, in case you wanna go back, you'll need it).
Old instructions:
attached you can find the apk file. just download, unzip and copy it over with any file manager (that can write the system folder), set persmissions (644), reboot and you're good to go.
make sure to backup the original apk.
the settings apk is located in system/priv-app/ folder.
Change log:
v.1.3
- otional: nexus image added to about section.
v1.2
- white "remove launcher" icon fixed
- white "add account" icon fixed
v1.1
- fixed printer icon
Download:
v1.3 (optional)
v1.2
Old downloads:
v1.1 with fixed printer icon (change made in the framework-res.apk file, therefore the flashable zip added).
View attachment Settings.zip
Known bugs:
- printer icon is white on settings, i can't find that effin icon, if you point me to the right direction, i'll fix the issue asap.
- white "add account" icon on white background - thanks to Desno365 for the help
- white "delete launcher" icon on white background - just replaced the icon, so let me know if this causes any issues
- white google account privacy settings
GrayScaled Settings
The only difference to white settings it that the icons and the text is gray (holo gray), the switch is changed to white with black text.
Download:
v1.0
GoogleDialer app
i changed the dialpad numbers to white background with black text
(screenshot is blurred on some parts due to the privacy of the contacts)

Mirror: v.1.1
Old downloads:
v1.0
Known bugs:
- action bar with open dialpad is black (doesn't wanna change for some reason :S)
Metro Blu Theme
This theme is based on white settings mod but i recolored basically everything, all holo blue supposed to be metro blu(e). There might be some leftovers
Instructions:
just flash the zip with recovery. make sure to make a backup before flashing.
Change log:
v1.1
- initial version
Download:
v1.0
Mirror: v1.0
Old downloads:
-
Known bugs:
- you tell me
Red! Theme
this is a beta and it does NOT contain the settings app, so you have to flash that individually.
Screenshots:
Instructions:
flash white settings first, doesn't really matter which one but i recommend to use the grayscaled version (unless you have any of them already flashed), then flash the Red! theme. it's important to flash Red! last, since with the other mods, you overwrite the framework and you lose the red theme.
If you are on odexed rom and haven't used any mods for Settings.apk & SystemUI.apk, then make sure the delete the .odex files for these two apps from system\priv-app folder!
Change log:
beta 1
- first release for testing but surely can be used as daily driver, there are some minor bugs though.
Download:
Beta 1

I don't like this mod, take me back to the original!
Revert Zips - thanks to 22sl22
Get them here: http://d-h.st/users/22sl22/?fld_id=31862#files
This is odexed stock but if you are running deodex just delete the odex (from the zip).
Clear cache/dalvik is recommended
Flash away & Enjoy

Disclaimer:
THIS IS FOR 4.4.2 STOCK - but might work on older/other 4.4 roms as well. Do this on your own risk, i'm not responsible for any damage you do by applying this mod. CREATE A BACKUP before flashing!

i tried to change the add account image in the xml, but doesn't seem to have effect for some reason - i can't understand though why, the png is there and it did change for the first time :S if i change the png, i'm afraid, i'll screw up something else...
for the bins on the home settings, i'll look into it, didn't check that before, sorry
ps: i guess i figured what the problem is: whenever i change the settings_header.xml, it seems, it doesn't change when i recompile the apk and therefore those 2 icons are not getting changed, even though i do the edit. :S strange.
Donjamal, I noticed another thing that need to be changed

hi,
i used root explorer to move it around but if you have recovery, i suggest to flash the newer version.
if you changed the font, i don't think, this will have any effect on that. you might have to wipe dalvik & cache.

ps: i guess i figured what the problem is: whenever i change the settings_header.xml, it seems, it doesn't change when i recompile the apk and therefore those 2 icons are not getting changed, even though i do the edit. :S strange.

Really strange, maybe it's a problem with apktool?

don't know, possible of course though. i tried it several times now and still no effect. i can even add new png resources and stuff, but it doesn't change anything in the xml :S
i just decompiled the apk and it's there now but it still doesn't change in the apk itself. i guess then it might be smali.
for the add account icon, this is what i change:
<header android:icon="@drawable/ic_menu_add_light" android:id="@id/account_add" android:title="@string/add_account_label">
<intent android:action="android.settings.ADD_ACCOUNT_SETTINGS" />
</header>

If you want I can try to do this for you and then send the file for PM
Why the link for flashable zip redirects to Facebook?

Unfortunately not working with Purity ROM I've been looking for such mod for a long time but don't want to change rom.
When I extract the settings.apk to system/priv-app settings won't open... It just happens nothing. When I flash the flashable zip via CWM I get a bootloop. What a shame... I really like this mod!

For the manual install, make sure to set permissions and reboot as well.

Sorry, forgot to mention... Permissions set and rebooted as well!
After replacing the backed up settings.apk the Problem remained. Fixed it with reflashing the rom. Weird...

then my best guess it's the rom that you are using.
