[Q] Whats the different between two zipped ROM? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw two ROM
PC10IMG_Vision_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.13.531.8_Radio_12.52.60.25_26.08.04.30_M3_release_188635_signed.zip
Vision_Gingerbread_S_TMOUS_2.13.531.8.zip
Which one i should used to flash my G2 from hboot?

The one with PC10IMG in it.. just rename it to that, put it on root of sdcard ( not inside any folder ) and reboot into bootloader and it'll pick it up itself, proceed and flash..
The other is a rooted version that's flashable through cw recovery and will not lose root.. PC10IMG is if you're not rooted and just stock..

Can you post the link for the one that works with rooted phones, and help with the method to flash it!? Thanks!

Ya unless you want to unroot your phone u do NOT WANT pc10img. Not sure why anyone would ever recommend that over just the rom unless someone specifically asked for something that the pc10img would fix. That seemed somewhat irresponsible...Gotta be careful what u tell people cause they will trust you and just go and do it!

No details? So we have no idea what this is............
What is this
I am guessing it simply is the stock ROM with the OTA update applied. Please post further information on exactly what this ROM is.

So will I lose root if I flashed this? If so then this will kill a lot of time for me. I wouldn't need to unroot my device. I have a replacement coming and if I could unroot it just by flashing this then great.

Yes u will lose root and should reset back to S-ON. Just rename zip to PD15IMG.zip and boot into bootloader and it should find it and ask you to continue flashing it. Afterwards u should have a Original Stock MT4G as when u first got it.

The file in the original post will OVERWRITE EVERYTHING ON THE DEVICE and wipe it 100% clean.
If you merely want to apply the update to the phone but leave all of her personal data intact, use the file I've linked below, name it UPDATE.ZIP and apply it by following directions below.
http://www.filedropper.com/update1pd15img
THIS PROCEDURE ASSUMES SHE IS ON STOCK ROM AND NOT ROOTED
copy the file to the root of your sdcard. make sure it is named update.zip and not update.zip.zip. If you don't know what this means, let me know.
power off phone.
hold vol down + power until you get to a white screen.
use the volume buttons to select RECOVERY then click power.
EDIT:

when phone reboots you should be in a blue menu. Android oem recovery 2e or something like that.
select apply update.zip and stand back and let the phone do it's thing. DON'T TOUCH IT WHILE IT'S WORKING!!
When it reboots she should be on 2.2.1.
So basically this is just the PD15IMG we already have? Or will this replace bootloader, recovery and all thus eliminating the need to reverse gfree kinda like sappimg.nbh for the mytouch 3g?

I *THINK* gfree is a separate issue, but not sure. You'd have to ask the creator of that thread. The PD15IMG we already had was pre-ota 2.2, meaning we had to apply a second update.zip to get back to post-ota 2.2.1.
I think this new PD15IMG in the OP of this thread is post-ota so we can completely unroot in one step. I'm very stoked.

[Q] How to extract original stock Rom?

How to extract stock Rom? The case is that I haven't done backup of my stock Rom branded by era provider.
Now some guy told me that he just bought desire z from era and his Rom is identical to RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.2_R_Radio_12.28e.60.14 0f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF_release (available on this forum)
except radio code which is ending with fU instead f.
So if I would like to get Rom which is flashed on his device, to have exactly what was on mine on the beginning what and how it should be done?

Ok, if I understand you right, you currently have a phone with stock ROM, and you want to take a backup of that phone, correct?
If that's the case, I think you'll still need to root the phone in order to install Clockwork recovery. Once you have Clockwork, then you can take a nandroid backup of your phone. So I don't think you can grab a backup of stock ROM before it was rooted.

Yeah so this a problem. During rooting it is necessary to downgrade your soft to 1.34 what automatically force you to loose your stock Rom. :/

No no I wanted only to have a possibility to back to the stock Rom if my phone will have to be sent to service on warranty.
I know one guy from Poland who also bought a phone from the same telcom operator - era.
He gave me info that the stock Rom on his phone is:
12.28e.60.140fU_26.04.02.17_M2
While on the forum can be find the same but with one difference in radio code - only f instead fU
12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2 and can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879384
But what does it mean this difference mentioned above and if it is negligible or not?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Well, unless you've flashed a custom radio, another option could be to extract everything from that RUU you found in the forum and flashing everything except the radio.
Although if you want to send your phone for warranty you'll probably have to do a bit more work to get s-on again...

I'm quite sure that flashing those ROMs do not change your radio. So if you need to send for warranty, I think you'll just need to flash the ROM part of the RUU (should be able to find a post somewhere which tells you how to extract just certain parts of the RUU) and then reflash partition 7 to get S-OFF. If you used gfree, it would have made a backup of that partition before it gave you S-OFF. Hopefully you still have it.
Actually, have you taken a look at this?

Installing new update with s-off?

Is it possible to install the new update with s-off. I have a stock rom and read the new update supposed to fix the battery threshold and I like the look. I know its not rootable yet but ive been reading some have been successful and just put amon ra recovery on it.Anyone know?

It is possible if you're s-off with Unrevoked Forever on Froyo. I had to switch to Amon Ra in order to install the update and then reflash Amon Ra after the update. Had to update Superuser after that but after that was fully rooted on the update.
There are several stock rooted versions of the OTA available, there's no reason that you need to lose root just to have the latest update.
If you are keen on losing root though, then go for it. You can install it with S-Off just fine, and since it'll remain S-Off you'll be able to flash a recovery on there and re-root by flashing a rooted rom.
If your intent is to have the latest update but also have root, then just flash one of the already-rooted stock roms available in the Android Development forum.
To hip kat, I actually don't like any custom roms, I'm an ogee only person and I tweak what I want or need myself. To tempe, how did you get clockwork off first assuming you had it? Also I used the unrevoked3 method but since mine is sprint, it automatically does a perm nand unlock.

Well, easiest is to just use Rom Manager to flash alternate recovery, that's what I did before running the OTA. After, you'll need to do it manually. If you search here on "recovery" you should find threads that have the pc36img.zip files for both Clockworkmod and Amon Ra. After installing the OTA, turn off the fastboot option under Settings/Applications. Copy the pc36img.zip file for the recovery you want to use to the SD card, shut down your phone and then hold volume down while turning it back on. Just follow the prompts on the screen from there. After the recovery is installed you should be able to boot up and have root. If the Superuser app give you FC's search around here for the fixed superuser zip and flash it.
You can go S-on with the Unrevoked S-On tool....
I don't want s-on hip, trying to keep s-off. And thanks tempe for your help.

According to the error you posted, it's just the blockbuster app that your missing. Did you uninstall other system apps? Or just that. You need to have all your system apps installed for it to work. I'll attatch the blockbuster app for you. You'll need to install it to /system/app using ADB or using Root Explorer. If adb, do this
adb remount
adb push Blockbuster_htc.apk /system/app
adb reboot
If using root explorer, just copy the apk to the /system/app folder and set the permissions the same as all the other apps in the system folder.
Also, it would be much easier for you just to flash a rooted stock rom. Here's a link for ya. You'd just flash the rom like normal, from within recovery. It'd save you some hassle.

I don't believe flashing the radio is necessary if you're doing the stock ota, I didn't have any issues with my current radio while I was using stock 2.3.3 (or any other ROM that I've used so far)
Alright I did the de-odex rooted ota but now the problem is once booted up, I cant update the prl or profile, it gives me an error. Im re-wiping the dalvik cache to see if that fixes it but is there any other steps I should try?
Side question, is a stock rom that came with the phone or an ota update a odex or de-odex?

I use Amon Ra (you can search for it here), rename it to PC36IMG.zip and transfer to SD card.
Boot into bootloader (power off, then volume down + power key).
It will then find the file, ask you if you want to run/install, and BOOM.

Yes, move it from pc or download it.
Go into recovery and install zip from there
S-Off doesn't equal root. It takes the security off so you CAN root.
Flash the recovery, as posted, and then flash a ROM. The ROM have the root exploit in them and should all come with Superuser, which is what allows your programs to use the root exploit.

If you are having an issue just go through the root method again and this time say YES when they ask you about Clockwork. This is if you are having issues flashing a recovery. It wont hurt your phone.
Suggestion - If you are entering the world of rooting and flashing roms, one of the most important things or probably the most important is to read and read again then when you think you got it read one more time. Alot of info in xda. follow OP's instructions to the letter and you will be ok...
Good luck

Yeah, the process is get S-Off, which removes the security
Flash Recovery, so you can flash ROMS, Kernels, etc.
Flash A ROM, which will have root, system files, etc so that you have a setup to work with.
Think of it like setting up a new computer. Once you get the components, you have to format your hard drive so it'll hold the operating system.

Easiest way is just download ruu from HTC or my site and flash it. Ensure your internal sdcard is backed up and external is removed.
Or just wait till later and I will have stock rooted odex and deodex posted

Usually to go back to stock, boot relock is needed. I'm unlocked, s-off and supercid. Do I have to undo those? I don't mind using full stock, even without root.

Stay unlocked and s-off.
Backup internal sdcard and remove external.
Reboot to fastboot
Issue command. fastboot oem rebootRUU
Run JB RUU
Once done and back into android. Reboot back into fastboot.
Flash TWRP normally.
Boot into TWRP then just choose option to reboot to system.
When asked by TWRP to fix su say yes.
Then just do the rest in ROM. You will see a notification popup for su. Choose the TWRP option.
You are now rooted on JB

Hei JMZ, I am using my One VX outside of the US, got the network unlock code on ebay. I tried to Check For Software Update, but it keeps on saying "There is no update for your device. Will check back in 24h. Is there anyway I can upgrade my device without loosing root, supercid and bootloader unlocking WITHOUT loosing my app settings!? I like the On. Air Upgrade, cuz it keeps ur settings and etc, but i will loose root and etc. Is there anyway I can combine both?!
P.S- Regardless of loosing app/phone settings, I am waiting for the stock rooted rom. Which do u recomand, the odex or the deodex?! Thanks and I really apreciate EVERYTHING u did for us, the VX users!

unfortuantly the only way to keep everything is the OTA. If you flash my rooted JB rom, it most likely will cause a lot of issues.
