Epic 4G
Rooted my phone last night, everything went well. All I was going to do was make my phone compatible with netflix, so I edited my build.prop to do that. All that process did was make my Swype keyboard stop working.
The first time, I used ES File Manager to copy build.prop out of the system folder, pasted to SD card, edited it, cut it from SD card and I put it back in system, overwriting the build.prop that was in there. No problems. When I attempted to do that again, I got the error "build.prop cannot be moved!" I did the exact same process, only now it wasn't letting me do it.
So I was googling ways to restore build.prop, and someone said to flash a different rom. I attempted to flash Syndicate ROM. I followed all the instructions just as there were at Samsung Epic Hacks.com, and now my phone is frozen at the first screen that happens on boot "Samsung/ww w.samsungmobile.com"
I also attempted to reflash the Froyo update from Sprint, that had no results.

Best to Odin back to stock and work back from there. BTW Netflix isn't working on our phone yet. Editing the build.prop will only let you download the app from the market but it still only plays a few seconds and craps out. Odin instructions are here:

What cwm did u use ti flash acs frozen?

Just thinking out loud here, but did you check the permissions after pasting the file? It's better to just edit the file IMHO

Ok. I'll try to make this short.
My phone was originally 2.1 used original unrevoked to gain root. Then did the original toast method I flashed some roms then unlocked nand. Jumped to 2.2 flashed more roms updated radios wimax etc.
Anyway the other day I decided to try the latest Fresh Rom, and update to the latest PRL, Wimax, Radio etc.
I went in wiped everything, and I had never tried to restore any of my nandroid backups I have made along the way. So I thought I would try one since I was in there messing around. I tried it, and got stuck in recovery. A good place to be I guess. So I flashed the new radios and the Fresh Rom and got it back up and running. I tried the ##775# hack to see how it worked. Had to downgrade the EPST file to the 2.1 in order to get the ##775# to work.
About this time I realized my music player couldn't find any music. I looked and it was all still there. Same as it had always been. It just says no music found, won't let me do anything besides back out of the program. I tried to go into my gallery/albums. Same thing. Can't find anything. At first I blamed the Fresh Rom, so flashed another Rom AVA 8, and same problem. The music files will play if I choose them from a file manager, same with the photos and videos. But I cannot access them through the players.
I tried different music players from the market place and same problem. They can't see the files. I cleared program caches, I checked folder names and locations. I tried renaming the music folder, making a new one in the same place, and copying music into it. No Luck. Then I tried uninstalling and removing the htc music apk. Then pulled one out of a rom file to install it, and it says Install could not complete. Or something like that.
My best guess is that when I did that Nandroid restore. It screwed something up in the file system. I may have tried to restore a 2.1 nandroid backup. In fact I am pretty sure I did now that I look at it.
Where should I go from here?
BTW I have flashed wiped and re flashed roms this does not fix the problem.
Do I need to un-root and start over with a PC136 whatever image?
Another note. Even though my pictures and music are still there. My videos seemed to have disappeared. This sucks!
Ok, so I got it working.
Backed up the data to my PC, then formatted the SD card and put the stuff back on and it works.
I don't know what happened to the video files they are just gone.
Thanks for posting your solution. Sorry to hear you lost your video.
To start off, Hi!
I have rooted my slide using eugene's method, and then i put the cm6 rom on my phone.
i saw where u could change the fonts on ur phone and then i tried it but i couldnt do it, i tried easy font installer and i also tried type fresh. nothing worked, on type fresh, it said error remounting and then i finally got it to stop saying that, and then it would reboot my phone but no fonts would be installed still.
Easy font installer said directory not empty. i tried installing busybox and using the command and run method, and still nothing.(it also said directory not empty) can someone please help me because i really wanna customize my phone and truly make my MYtouch mine.
before that i had a regular mytouch witht eh 1.35.531.1, and then i rooted it and everything, and then i did something to it, and then it rebooted up when i turned it on and it was back to my old mytouch boot up and it was at 1.18.531.1 and then i put the cm6 back on it, and i applied the correct radio and everything after i couldnt get any sound and any app with sound would just reboot my phone.
im saying all of this so i could be helped more efficiently so u guys can know what i did and how i got to this point.
I flashed the new radio on the dev forum and didnt notice any speed change and then i followed this comment

Now my phone wont boot. I get the samsung and galaxy s3 logos then nothing. I made a copy of the build.prop on my phone before i changed it but i cant access it. I figured I would restore my nandroid backup but its 2 weeks old and I dont want to lose everything I did If i dont have to.
I made the backup of the build file in the root of my phones internal storage so I cant access it with my sd card thru my PC. Is there a way to restore or edit this file even though I cant access the phone? Will my nandroid backup bring me back to life? I'm worried that restoring my nandroid will make things worse.
I'm using a the stock rooted rom.
Thanks for any help.
Fixed!
I got my phone back up and running. Much easier than I though it would be.
I used quick adb pusher from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1599332
was able to get to my phones files and delete my edited build.prop and and replaced it with a backup. Took all of 2 minutes.
I'll never forget to nandroid before anything ever again thats for sure.
please help

How did you access it with the adp pusher? my phone does not boot, all i can do is get into recovery mode. when i start the adb pusher, how do i access the build.prop? do i need anything else for it to read my files because it does not boot?
One thing you can try, especially if you're on a custom rom is to just reflash that rom, no wipe. It should replace everything back to normal in /system.
Also, im not sure if this would cause boot problems but when editing build.prop always make sure you have a blank line at the end.

Hi, its my first time posting, I figured I wanted to sign up to XDA eventually so why not when I feel like I've completely ruined my phone... or at least internal sd card...
Basically I rooted my phone and was flashing the Jellybam rom, and everything was going smoothly until I got to the bootloader and my phone started bootlooping. My first thought was 'Oh but I have a backup'. So I went to my backup in CWM and to my dismay I got an error saying "No files were found."
I could clearly see my files from exploring around on my sd card however they were now in a file called '0' and CWM could not read them from there. Without a working ROM I started to panic. However I had a zip of CM10 still on my internal sd card so I flashed that and (luckily) it worked.
Not really being too competent with flashing new ROMs yet I was quite happy that I had anything. So I used titanium backup to reinstall my old apps and data. However once they were installed I now get an error with 'the process android.process.media has stopped'.
I'm guessing this has do do with the fact that I have all my files still on the '0' folder. All the other folders from the '0' folder were the same except they were all empty, soooooo I decided to delete them. At this point I'm guessing that was a really bad idea because my initial plan of moving all the files from '0' to my pc then back to my phone, I did not think about the fact that I would be moving 14 Gb of data...
So basically now I'm hoping if someone knows a way to revert my phone to 4.1.2 by somehow moving all the files from '0' back onto the internal storage (basically getting rid of this '0') folder. The CM10 ROM is a 4.1.2 ROM so its not like I'm fudging up my phone further (I hope).
If you could be as detailed as possible as to what to do that would be great, because I'm really really new to this....
From what I've read I've heard a couple of suggestions:
1. updating the recovery.img of CWM will work? How exactly do I do this?
2. opening abd shell recovery and moving the files like that (however I deleted all the other files in the internal storage apart from '0' because that was where all the data was stored and everything else was empty...'
help. :crying:

1- Your solution
2- Was quite the bad idea to delete it all so this solution won't work now.
clockwordmod.com is where you'll find the latest recovery.

So how exactly do I do that? I just download the the latest clockwork mod and flash it? Why can't it be updated via an automatic updater? And what will it do to the file or will it change clockwork mod so that it will scan the entire sd card?
Also if I just remade folders identical to the ones I deleted, will that still work?
I'm just trying to get my phone to be as functional as it was before this all started.
Thanks for replying btw!

That's a lot of question for the simple fix I gave you.. I haven't used cwm in a while so Idk what changed in the update but if people said it fixed it, then it did..
0, 1, 2, etc.. Is something that came with JB, it's for the different users. Not much can be done about it.
About how you should do that: Go on their website, FOLLOW their instructions to a T, Enjoy.
As for why it can be updated via an automatic updater.. Well I'm not the person you should ask.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just worried that I messed up my phone. Would you know if I were able to be able to access my old clockwork mod backups and used one of them, would it put my 0 files back into the internal storage like they used to? Or would it only revert the settings and I would still be SOL.

Yes, that's the whole point of the cwm update. Now to flash it!
Or, go digg through the cm nightly thread. They had a flash able zip that would restore your internal sd after downgrading Android versions.

Well here's my latest problem... I tried to update CWM with an .img however when I tried to run it in the terminal it said there was not enough space... I don't know what to do... there is definitely a couple gigs free so I don't know what is wrong...

the cm nightly thread? So theres a zip that would make 4.2 go back to 4.1?
Okay update:
I managed to flash update the new version of CWM... still can't use backup... I get a /system fail
It doesn't downgrade you're ROM. It fixes the 0 folder issue

Ugh Okay I've given up... I dont know what else to try. Now that I've updated my CWM I cant flash the old CM10 because it reads it as a 4.1 and uncompatable... FML.
Can anyone point me to where I can find the Odin stock factory? I guess I'll just start from scratch...

So I decided to root my Sprint Galaxy S3 today using this guide: http://qbking77.com/how-to-root/root-samsung-galaxy-s-iii/. Everything went well and I flashed a custom ROM onto my phone (I did backup before hand). The ROM in question was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356491.
After a few minutes I realized that the ROM wasn't allowing me to send out text messages. So I decided to revert back to my old backup because I didn't want to take the time to figure that problem out. So I preformed the wipe and start the backup. Then there is a problem, the backup file is corrupt and will not load. So I think to myself, "Okay. I'll just start over, it's not a big deal." The only problem is, the custom ROM rebooted when I restarted my phone.
My problem: No matter how many times I wipe my phone, the custom ROM keeps rebooting. I can't flash any other ROM over it. There's nothing I can do. And I can't unroot the thing either because the QbKing77 guide (http://qbking77.com/how-to-unroot/unroot-unbrick-the-samsung-galaxy-s-iii/) has nothing but broken links in it. So I need some help getting this thing back to stock. Hell, just getting a new ROM onto it that works is fine by me.

I'm downloading it now. I'll report back if it works or not. The download is gonna take a while because of poor internet.
EDIT: My computer won't download the file. Get's about 1/8th of the way through it then a window opens saying that my computer can't open the file, then the file disappears from the download cue.

Hmm... I just tried it and it downloaded fine. Did you try restarting your pc? I would ask over in that thread if you haven't already.
On the last page of the post someone posted a mirror. I couldn't get the link from the op to download either, but the link posted on the last page worked for me.
