I have a HTC Desire Z from the Asia Middle East region with the following specs:
Android version:2.2
Kernal version:2.6.32.21-
Build Version and software version:1.83.415.2
Is there a way to get to CM7 i.e to downgrade/root this phone.
Thanks
Downgrade to 1.34, then root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Rooting_the_Vision_.28G2.2FDZ.29_and_DHD
Pretty sure there are others here on the same ROM as you, that have done it this way successfully.
There's a couple ways to do it, the best way would be to follow the root method in the wiki using rage then get S-OFF with gfree.
Once you have rooted it, install Rom Manager and flash clockwork then download this zip and flash it to get a working Superuser.
Edit: You may have to downgrade to get S-OFF, I bought a NAM Desire Z and had to downgrade then flashed the ARA RUU.
Not able to downgrade
Thanks for guiding me
I followed the wiki guide correctly upto all the steps until....The downgrading part
And I am Stuck in the Downgrading process i.e Phone thinks the PC10IMG.Zip file is not a valid file in the boot loader menu and restarts to normal ,
Could this be due to this version(1.83)???
What do I do now!??
Do these details help:

Did you make the gold card first?
Guide Here.
Anyways, it seems your Desire Z has a unique CID probably put on it by a manufacturer. All you have to do is make a gold card then you can downgrade with the gold card inside the phone.

Hi All
I'm new to the forums today and have been reading up on Debranding my Handset as well as changing the CID.
I'm hoping one of you more experienced guys out there can clarify the inderstanding of a total noob here i.e. me.
Essentially I want to Debrand a Vfone DHD running 2.2.1 and simply flash the latest 2.2.1 Unbranded equivalent (HTC) My understanding however is that in order to install OTA updates without leaving a gold card in place I need to set the CID to HTC_001? So to do this I believe I need to:
(1) Downgrade to 2.2 using Gold Card Method
(2) Install Visionary and Root the Phone
(3) Use 'one Click' radio S-Off tool to set s-off
Here's where I need a little help.....
How do I change the CID to 'HTC__001' set radio S-ON and then flash the Unbranded 2.2.1 ROM?
Is it merely a case of using the tool ‘One Click Tool’ to do Stock CID and S-ON and then Unroot the Phone before reflashing Android 2.2.1 (unbranded) using the Gold Card method again? Or is there an easier solution?
I am essentially trying to obtain an Unbranded 2.2.1 CID HTC_001, Radio S-ON Phone.
Cheers

The radio s-off tool will give you superCID (11111) this means you can apply any generic or branded update

Thanks for that. One last quick question if that's ok. If I downgrade to Unbranded HTC_WWE_1.32.405.3_R-1.28.405.1_R2_releasef3xogq2juqkgt3v5 how do I then re-upgrade to 1.72....unbranded? Will I be able to do this by searching for an OTA upgrade using the Phone or do I need to flash another rom manaually.

Hi,
Just got my first ever htc phone the htc desire locked on 3 (UK)
I was looking around and I am preparing to root the phone using this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084
It says however that your device must be hboot 0.93 or lower. I checked and it says my phone is 0.93.0001 is it still okay to use this guide to root it?
Also will rooting my phone unlock it or must the phone be unlocked to root it?
Thanks in advanced and sorry if this is a noob question.
Unrevoked 3 will work.
I have the exact same Hboot version, and I got a custom rom on it.(rooted, s-off, alpharev Hboot)
Hello, I want to unroot/revert to stock my Desire Z. Can I just run the RUU, or will my phone brick? I am S-OFF and have root.
Im not sure but i hope this will help you :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#Unrooting_and_Returning_to_Stock
Note quite: Can I run this RUU(http://www.filefactory.com/file/b4a...140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_160882_signed.exe) without my phone bricking?
Your phone won't brick, but with that release you can't fully unroot.
If you want S-ON you'll have to flash a lower version rom, there's a full list at shipped-roms.com
to fully unroot you need a 1.34 rom

Hi Nipqer, what RUU version of desire Z should I download to be able to root with goldcard? Also, where can i get these RUU files? There's a link in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055581 but the multiupload server seems to be down since February. Thanks
Hiya folks!
I unlocked my daughter Wildfire S hboot via HTC-Dev when it was first released and upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 EU to get rid of the 3 bloatware on the original rom, I did not root at the time as it was still in its very infant stage and did not wish to give my daughter my Rooted Desire through bricking hers!
Now the time has come to root as she is constantly telling me of a space shortage...I know we've all been there..so thinking the Hboot was still unlocked I ran through HTC super tool 3 , tried a couple of times with no success so realized there must be something I've missed, I checked the hboot was still unlocked in the pink text I believe it was to find that it no longer states unlocked, locked or any extra text just,

Android Version 2.3.5

Soft Number 2.13.401.2
Go to htcdev and follow instructions to unlock your bootloader.Once it's unlocked, you should see "UNLOCKED" at the top when you boot ur phone.
And then you can root the phone.

OK Ta I wondered if I had to do it again, I guess as I have already updated to 2.3.5 from the first time I can skip that part and precede to straight step 1 ?
Did you tried this? I had problem with rooting my wfs, I can't find script i used right now. I'll update this post if i will find it.
What happened is that the 2.3.5 update changed your HBOOT from the previous one.......Go to htcdev.com start the unlock process and when prompted to download an RUU........ just download the RUU with the software more than the one you are having..... in your case the Europe RUU and just follow the instructions thereafter.....
Right got 'ERROR 190 ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED' please upgrade to 2.13.401.3 to apply this RUU, can I use a different RUU csoulr66 other than EU?
Wish I'd done this in one hit rather than in parts! Thanks in advance all!!!
You're 100% sure that you grabbed proper RUU? According to error you get and htcdev it should be this:
HTC EU 2.13.401.3 PG7610000 - sry can't give you direct link because of forum limitation for users under 8 posts
have you made a goldcard????? Because you will need one to run an RUU

I have a unlocked phone but I never hear about goldcard, are you sure it's needed ?
A goldcard is used to debrand the CID. Without a goldcard, you cant install diags/downgrade/etc because the CID is branded with your carrier.
I had this problem originally, all you have to do is run a stock rom RUU (From the list supplied by football in the stickies) with a goldcard. Then go back to the HTC dev website and upgrade the hboot.

All done, I could not down load any of the links from 'footballs' thread, busy..no free slots etc , so I found a Spanish site and upgraded to 'Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35.3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989' then all worked as it should following the instructions on the HTC DEV site, rooted and running SENSELESS_2.3.5_jermzii_v.1.2, thanks all!!
Hi,
This is how you downgrade a Desire/Bravo with the HBOOT 1.02.0001 already installed, - this method is appropriate for people who need to downgrade the HBOOT for unlock purposes. I struggled for ages on this and once I found the method thought i'd post it around the internet as I couldn't find this info anywhere.
-Summary of steps-
1)Turn S-Off + Update HBOOT
2)Downgrade HBOOT to 0.93.0001 (Turns S-ON)
I have personally tested this and it worked perfectly without any problems. However flashing anything to your phone is done at your own risk, & I accept no responsability for your device.
--Step 1--
Download and run the Revolutionary tool here http://revolutionary.io/ to turn S-Off - Follow the steps on their website for how to do this if you get stuck.
Once you have run the Revolutionary tool, when it asks if you want to install the Clockworkmod recovery press no.
You will now have an S-Off phone running HBOOT 6.93.1002
--Step 2--
Format a microSD card, download the following zip file and save it to your memory card.
http://www.mediafire.com/download/dyyn35zm07x2x7a/PB99IMG.zip LINK UPDATED 2 JAN 2013
You should now have a single file on your memory card named PB99IMG.zip
--Step 3--
Put the microSD card back in your phone and hold 'VOL+DOWN + ACTION' and press the power button to get to the HBOOT menu. Wait around 10 seconds (give or take) and the phone will detect the update and ask you to install it, Select yes to install then reboot your phone back into the HBOOT menu.
You will now have an S-On phone with the 0.93.0001 HBOOT
--Step4-- IF THIS STEP APPLIES TO YOU FOR UNLOCKING
Unlock with XTC-Clip as you normally would - Creating goldcard with 0.93.X001 HBOOT.
Your phone will now be unlocked.[/QUOTE]
NOTE: You can do the official updates through the phone as normal without loosing your unlock
Hope you find this info useful
what ruu (PB99IMG) is it?
what if someone has an orange branded phone, coz there is no ruu for it and they would need a goldcard.
what about people from different regions coz theres different ruu's for different regions aswell and they would need a gold card.
edit: its a hboot.img, thought it was an ruu.
did u try this yet? does it work?
normaly when u change hboots u have to format partitions. if u go to the trouble of getting s-off then why not just run the correct ruu for ur device, just to be safe.

Hi,
It souldn't matter what network the phone is on - The HBoot was taken from a WWE RUU & I tested it with a UK Vodaphone branded desire which worked. I used this method to unlock a 1.02.0001 phone which isnt supported by xtc hence the downgrade needed. You shouldn't need a goldcard for the downgrade part as running the revolutionary tool will switch s-off, after applying the downgraded hboot it will turn s-on but as you will be on the old 0.93.0001 hboot you can just create the goldcard with xtc and complete the unlock if this step applies to you - it probably does as I dont know another reason for downgrading to this HBOOT.
Running the downgrade will wipe the phone - it did atleast with mine.
The reason I couldnt run an RUU to downgrade the hboot after turning s-off is because revolutionarys tool adds some protection to prevent hboot flashing via RUU & fastboot. The only way I could find to do it was to flash it directly from the SD card.
As for the other regions you may be right and need a local hboot - I'm not able to test this as I only ever get UK phones to unlock. If it is the case the HBOOT which you want to downgrade to can always be extracted from a local RUU and added to your own update.zip (named correctly of course) - The network branded phones on the other hand should make no difference - as s is off, so a UK orange, vodafone etc will take the hboot from WWE RUU aslong as s is off. (This is why its neccessary to run revolutionary first)
Hope this info helps.
cool. just so u know to unlock the hboot 6.93.1002 u have to flash the Alpharev downgrader img, that way it can be overwritten by an ruu

Hi,
Thanks for mensioning that, I did actually run the Alpharev downgrader as part of the process but completely forgot to add that step ( I wrote the tutorial after doing it not during ) With me though after running the alpharev downgrade the hboot still wouldnt downgrade from the ruu - also tried manually flashing with fastboot but got various errors (something to do with usb something or other - maby it was just my usb's playing up again as they occasionaly do) so for me I still had to do the sd card way but if you find it works for you with the ruu then even better.
For anyone getting stuck, do this step after running revolutionary - Just download the Bravo Downgrader from here http://alpharev.nl/ and run it before continuing with the rest of the steps.
i always use PB99IMG awsell, my laptop dont like my phone haha

desire with broken volume keys
hi friends, I found a HTC Desire bravo at the flee market and bought it thinking it is actually a nexus-one... a nice phone with lots of nice futures in it after a charging session the phone boot up and it was alive back again. with one problem the volume keys was not working.. ı dismantled it and cleaned up as it is described in xda forums and didn't worked so i made a little check and found the thin foil attaching the volume keys to the main board was broken since there is no way to fix it without changing the main board and i had no intention to pay lots of money on it i left it like that with one problem; no way to boot in to recovery from start... after couple of days i found i didn't liked the rom on it i decided to change it, there was no problem since i could boot it to recovery using the restart menu which the ROM had since it was rooted but i made a mistake and fell in to a boot lope the only way to boot it back was the adb commands but phone couldn't start up so no debugging mode only fast boot so i tried many fast boot commands to boot in to recovery with no success after searching forums i found lots of desire bravos around with the same problem.. so i used ruu to reboot it properly the only ruu worked for me was the official 2.3.3 update ruu ''RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe'' the phone booted and working now but no s off and no root and there was no way to root it without the volume up and down keys i was stuck with the useless unrooted rom so here how i rooted the phone without the volume keys first you have to download ''DooMLoRD_v3_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip'' and run it in USB debugging mode after that you have a working recovery partition to install a recovery bin using fastboot or what ever( the problem was after the update i lost the phones recovery partition and couldn't get the state s-off even i am s-off there was no recovery partition... since i am not good at commands to re format the boot loader this could be a life saver so i decided to share my experience... afterwards you can boot into recovery since you have a recovery partition you can push any recovery to your phone i think zergrush tool is not intended to use with bravo that why no body mentioned it in the bravo forums ops i forgot the say i used alphadevs methods and software to gain s-off on my phone before using zergrush i hope this will hwlp people like me stucked with non fonctioning volume keys
