Hello,
I've found myself on another precarious situation with the temperamental testy phone called the Epic 4G. I was installing ViperROM Trinity; I did my normal flash then installed the ROM.
Recovery said everything was fine; but upon restart the phone got stuck in the bootloader loop issue.
So I grabbed Odin; and began to reflash the phone.
After loading the stock Eclair SPH-DI18 it started flashing. But... During the flash it keeps on getting stuck on:
"Factoryfs.rfs"
Odin the stayed on it for 30 minutes; so I took the battery out and tried to boot into CWM to see if anything changed- but it gave me the "Phone -- ! -- Computer" which is where it does nothing. I've gotten out of it before; but this time it doesn't want to budge.
I've tried my laptop / desktop
I've switched to all my USB Ports
Run Odin in Administrator
I only have AutoReboot and F.Reset Time checked
Restarted Computer
Changed USB Cable
Any suggestions guys?
You should only have fast reboot checked.

I tried that; still no luck. Also changed the MD5 to a TAR format to see if that would help. Still stuck on Factoryfs.rfs.
I've also disabled all firewall services; virus software; and attempting to redownload stock DI18 again to see if it's corrupted somewhere.
Take pit file out if using that. Other than that try dl the tar file again.

I've tried that; it still keeps getting stuck on factoryfs.rfs. I don't understand why Odin can't break through this?
try checking all three on the left side
Thanks so far for the help guys, that still didn't work. It's still stuck on factoryfs.rfs.
I had this happen, remove the battery, then plug into your usb cable that is hooked to the computer. I believe it started working after that. If it doesn't, unplug it, then plug it back in holding down the 1 and power buttons. Hope this helps!

Should of added do all this with the battery out of the phon

Another method bites the dust I'm afraid; I'm starting to believe I may have actually found myself in one of those rare circumstances where I've really screwed something up. Or it's defective... Cause Flashing shouldn't be this hard. It should go through quick and effective.
I thought that's what you meant; so right now its:
- a new USB Cable
- Administrator Odin 3 V1.7
- Battery Out of Phone
- No Pit File
- A brand new md5 files; renamed and removed md5 to convert to TAR
- Only Auto Reboot Checked
Also remove the sd card from your phone. We want the smallest amount of interference possible. Try a blackberry cable if possible. Heard they were high quality. Other than that, post above me sums it up.
I highly doubt you've permanently bricked your phone. Did you flash in a lightning storm or something?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I tried the Micro-SD Card; it's so jacked up now... No, I didn't... What's weird though; I've Flashed my way out of this before. But now; it's just like dead...
Could always try the eb13 installer from samsung, unless they pulled it. If you can't find let me know I have a copy of it.

I assume you've looked here, but maybe there's something you missed. Relax and take your time.

I'm screwed! I was installing
MODEM_I9100XXKE4_REV_02_CL1009835.tar.md5
CODE_I9100XWKE7_CL215725_REV02_user_low.tar.md5
GT-I9100-CSC-XEUKD1.tar
and something happened in Odin3 and it froze, so I took the battery out and tried to restart it and now all I get is a blue and yellow screen that says Android System Recovery. I don't have anything backed up on the device, it didn't come with a microSD card, and it now says
Deleting Cryption Meta Data
-Copying media files....
#manual mode#
updating application....
applying multi-CSC
and that's it. When I hit reboot phone all I get is a screen with a triangle and an android symbol and when I hit apply update from sd card, same symbol, even when I tried to put a .TAR file on my dad's EVO microSD card and put it into the galaxy.
Also, now the USB cable doesn't recognize my phone for some reason so when I go back to ODIN mode it says
Product name - GT-i9100
Custom Binary Download - Yes (1 count)
Current Binary Samsung Official
When I try to restart the phone, it goes straight to the android recovery screen mentioned above, where I can't do anything, and then when I get into the Odin mode, it won't recognize the usb cable so I can link up to Odin3 V1.83 on the computer. Also tried the usb cable on other computers didn't find my phone. Also, as of right now it's not rooted, but I was in the process of rooting, when I realized I missed the Over the Air step so when I Odin3 an insecure.TAR file the WIFI was broke so S2 Root kept saying can't find usb connection even though it was connected, and somewhere along the line when I was trying to restore the radio's by installing the 3 files above, when it crashed something messed up? Now I can't do anything. PLEASE HELP
SO I AM STUCK! Please help????????
Buy a usb jig from ebay or amazon then flash your phone

The usb connection doesn't work between the phone and the computer anymore, so how can I flash something on the phone, when there is no way of getting a spk to the device, let alone the device recognizing it. If someone can't give me a solution, i'm just gonna take it back to sprint, and be like hey, I searched for a firmware update, and then this happened. it's still in my 30 days exchange on the receipt.
What were u trying to flash?

Lol thats what I was wondering. What do people think? Samsung is gonna lock down phones after all these bricked phones keep coming back. U obviously should not be flashing right now.

I had my epic 4g in download mode and accidentally pulled the power/data cord but it wasn't transferring anything at all, and the screen on my epic show a cell phone then a yellow triangle with a "!" in the middle and a computer, and my computer got the blue screen of death, can anyone help, i cant get it to turn on or boot up without seeing that screen
Take the battery out and plug back up ur pc and hold 1 then power and see if it will go back into download mode. If not with battery still hold 1 and then power and plug up to pc while still holding those down. Remove sd card also

That's why I said to try Odin in safe mode to avoid the Bluescreen of death. Or try the other version of Odin. There is 1.61 and 1.83 floating around.

Kind of like when Windows throws up and causes a BIOS memory error. It is a blue screen with a bunch of exceptions and errors on it with no other option but to reboot.
To the OP can you use someone else's computer? Maybe run a registry cleaner on yours?

Safe mode wont work because in safe mode windows only loads the necessary programs and drivers, samsung cell phone driers are not necessary.

Isn't there a safe mode option to allow you to choose which drivers to load? There were several choices that I remember.

having same problem please help!!!
hi i have the same problem, but i am able to get back into the download mode. but when i use odin to put the stock kernel on it keeps saying that it failed. when i flash the rooted tar. it passes but when it reboots it stays on the samsung screen. PLEASEE helpp =[
Reboot the pc. Uninstall odin and drivers. Reboot pc. Reinstall odin and drivers. Pull battery from ur phone. Let phone sit for about 5 mins. Press and hold power button on ur phone for about 15sec to set off remaining electical circuit charge. Put battery back into phone, and then try going into download mode.

If there is anykind of registry or bios problem on pc or even partition . It will tell u partition error, bios error, or c:/ disk error
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
i have a thread posted up instead of stealing this one. and it didnt work. dont think it has anything to do with my computer. i can run the rooted tar on odin and it works except that my phone does nothing. but when i try to use odin to go back to eg30 stock kernel. the odin says it fails
Ok...are using another data cable other than the one that came with the phone? Is so, odin ec05. And make sure that repartition and reboot are checked. And see what happens. It should work. Don't worry about rooting until u have it functioning with just stock.

Its not the computer, its my cell phone, i keep gettin the 7 1/4 error in odin when tryin to partition or put on a different kernel, any other ideas
Im trying to odin the ec05 modem on my epic so i can update it to the EI22 modem. But i accidently put the tar in the phone section on odin (v1.85) and not pda. This failed (ive used this cord to odin my phone a few times in the past), and after a few seconds the download screen went away like it was rebooting, but nothing happened. I put my phone back into download mode but odin doesn't see my phone and windows doesn't recognize what it is. When i try to boot the phone regularly it gives me the phone ! computer image. so my question is, what should i try to attempt to get odin or windows to recognize my phone so i can fix this?
Look at the sticky thread in developement about bring the phone back from a soft brick

Your cable is going bad. It should have still worked in the phone section. The screen going blank is a sign that your phone lost connection. As Flastnoles11 mentioned here is the sticky at the top of development. Follow it exactly and you should be fine, but you will need a better cable like an HTC, Blackberry or Palm.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1052813
Yes, the cable has a lot to do with it. But also pull the battery, and leave it off for about 5mins, and press and hold the phones power button for about 10 secs to release remaining electrical charge in phone. (But try another cable)

Hi guys what my phone is currently doing is when ever i plug it into the computer it says disk needs to be formated but it kicks off every 2-3 seconds it does that and it just generates a bunch of format windows on my comp. the phone does not turn on, does not go to into recovery nor does it try to boot tried these steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1513359 and more but does nothing except for when i plug the phone into the computer it starts doing what i have described above.
thanks for looking and any information is greatly appreciated.
That sounds like a hard brick for sure. How did it happen? Looks like jtag or warrenty or insurance claim is your only solution.

What happened to cause this issue did you try to root or flash a rom, phone will not go into recovery or download mode?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
i had recently updated the recovery because the old one kept acting up and this one did as well like it would take for ever and when i would try to clear the cache it would just be there and do nothing only way was to remove the battery and put it back on but this time i tried to do a format instead of just cache cleaning to get a fresh install but it just never turned back on it had been trying to format for a half hour so i thought that was enough time hmm im wondering how that warranty would go cause the phone is in mint condition.
What did you update it to? And how?

I am having an exactly same issue. I can't turn on the phone, cannot connect to ODIN because when I connect it PC, the DISK FORMAT messages keep popping up. seeking for an solution very bad. If anyone, know how please helppp, I will be very appreciated.
If the phone responds to a charging cable in the wall socket I don't believe it is bricked. And you said it does respond to your computer in some way. Have you tried getting it into download mode and flashing a stock rom? When I had a captivate I thought it was hard bricked but I got it into download mode with a usb jig (my particular captivate did not have 3 button combo to download mode) and used Odin to flash a stock rom and went from there.
