Use the downgrade guide in dev subforum, it is a sticky. Then you can use Visionary, and the tools in my signature.

[Q] upgrade 1.84.832.2 ????

Ok just coming from HD2 running CM7 2.3.4 (flashed a lot of roms on them)
Just got a DHD (yesterday) - has build 1.84.832.2 on it and stuck with Android 2.2.1.
Missing 2.3.4 and no official upgrade yet for HK version.
Questions
How can i root this phone (visionary+ does not appear on market)
is there anyway to upgrade to an official 2.3 rom from another region?

Yes, you can root the phone, but since you have 1.84 FW, you need to downgrade.
Once you downgrade, you can then install CWM recovery and flash different ROMs
*for downgrade guide - CLICK HERE
*for official ROM sources - CLICK HERE (files by andy, credit goes to him)
sorry but u answered the same thing like me but with another words....

Semantics aside - thanks. to both of you.
still trying to get to grips with DHD.
Quite familiar with HD2 rooting and flashing.
have put adw launcher on it and it feels a bit more like home.

Right now you don't, hopefully a new exploit will be forthcoming, our you may have to wait until HTC released an unlocked bootloader.
Here's some threads you could have used instead of starting a new one:

Then Try to post in the right section first. Otherwise Mods will close/delete your thread.
Which ROM you have? Gingerbread or ICS?
And what is the build number? GB - 0.42/0.58/0.62 or ICS -4.0.3 or 4.0.4
I have Gingerbread 2.3.3
Build number 3.0.1.a.0.145
You're running an old version of android. Not even 2.3.4
But if you just want to root this version, just search for Gingerbreak. You just need to transfer it to your phone and install it like a regular .apk
Cheers!

Well Xtacy already suggested you the way, which is right.
Can you upgrade the Android Version, Like the latest Android 4.0.4. That is easily Rootable.
You can also upgrade to Android 2.3.4 [Build 0.42 or 0.58] which is easily rootable to using Doomlord kit.

As far as I know, no custom DHD ROM has 4.2 with Sense, and HTC didn't upgrade it. If you just want to root it use the Easy Ace Root Tool.
