[Q] Help Needed - Desire Bricked - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
while trying to reinstall the a stock ROM on my Desire that was rooted with Cyanmodgen 7 I bricked it.
I used RUU and now all I'm left with is a device that turns on and off but with black screen only.
I can't recover from the phone.
With SDK i can mount the SD card but apart from that I can't find anywhere instruction on how to recover from the console.
Can anybody help me?
What information do you need?
thanks

Can you go in Recovery mod ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App

run the ruu from fastboot

Hi I can following this steps till #4
1. Make sure the update.zip (NOT update.zip.zip!) file is on your goldcard and correctly named.
2. Take the battery out first to ensure the phone is powered off. Then hold vol down and press the power button, and hold vol down for about 5 seconds. That will get you into the bootloader even though you can’t see it.
3. Press vol down once. This will select recovery.
4. Press the power button once. This will start the recovery. The phone will vibrate briefly.
5. Wait 20 seconds or so. Then press vol up and the power button and wait a few seconds. You’ll now be in system recovery.
6. Press vol down once to select ‘apply sdcard:update.zip’.
7. Press the power button once to start the recovery.
8. After a few seconds press the power button once again.
cause the phone vibrates once...

how can i fastboot? back button + power? if so do i need to use my provider RUU?
don't have a goldcard...

I get error 140 when trying fastboot RUU

Looks like ruu you are trying to run has earlier version of hboot than your current one.

hi tinky,
thanks,
all i know is that phone came with o2 CID is o2___001 and that hboot is 80.0
tried various roms through ruu... no luck

Find correct o2 RUU, make sure you have hboot drivers installed on pc, boot desire while holding BACK button. Try running RUU.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

how do i do that, tried a couple but both give me error 140

How do you find correct RUU? Well, you have to use your search skills here. It took me a while to find mine.

lol
i can only find 2 here and both don' t work

I haven't researched this, but is it worth trying a full wipe and flashing a new recovery image, all from fastboot? I'm sure there must be a set of commands to do that? If it works you can then flash RUU or whatever rom required.

This thread has a full set if fastboot commands for wiping and reflashing everything, maybe helpful:
http://www.firstdroid.com/tutorials/htc-magic-sapphire-tutorials-htc-magic-sapphire-guias/how-to-load-a-rom-with-fastboot/

Will try that and keep you posted. Thanks for your help

Those are all for the G1, don't put them on your desire!!
Everything you need should be here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
I think the progression should go: wipe everything, flash radio & RIL, flash recovery, flash rom. Perhaps someone else will confirm?
I hope you get this to work!

Trying to recovery partially bricked phone

Okay, so a friend asks me to fix her Dinc... here's the story.
When I first got the dinc, it only powered up into FASTBOOT (HBOOT 0.92, Radio 2.15). The volume and power buttons don't work. She said it crashed when she FC a program to get more memory.
I tried to flash the phone using pb31img.zip on a newly formatted (fat32) sdcard. It scans the card and errors with older version.
Next I try to flash with RUU. That was successful and I can boot into the phone... in safe mode. In addition, if I shut down the phone and power up again, I get stuck in FASTBOOT and have to redo the RUU.
Okay, I figured with the phone booting into Froyo, all is not lost. I tried to use unrevoked to get root and poke around. That failed with error asking if firmware is too new.
I try to install z4root... that doesn't work either since safe mode seems to mean only default system programs work (I can install, but can't run). Probably why unrevoked failed also.
I'm starting to think it is a hardware issue since the RUU should have fixed everything.
Any ideas???
Thanks.

As I mentioned, none of the buttons in fastboot seems to work, so I can't reboot, just a battery pull. Interestingly, when I have the pb31img there, it scans and tells me its an older version, but then the buttons work... reboots back into fastboot.
I'm thinking of trying the revert to 2.1 and go from there... is it safe to flash over the latest Froyo RUU with 2.15 radio with the following?

Can't get the fastboot to recognize any pb31img.zip file now... it only worked when I first got the dead phone. Now that I have flashed with RUU, the fastboot won't recognize the pb31img file.

Any luck Woz?
Yes, Doug gave me a bunch of roms to flash. Nothing worked. The last step we did before I took a break was to get into recovery using adb. Then I wiped cache and data. That didn't seem to work. Flashed another rom using recovery. Nada.
I put the phone down for a few hours. Then I decided to crack it open to see if it was a refurb (cheap label makes me suspicious). Nothing unusual inside, I put it back together and powered on... the thing booted normally... everything worked.
Doug suspects it was the data/cache wipe, I don't know. I think it was the bug that got let out when I cracked it open.

bootloop after flashing cm7

Hey guys
After flashing cm7 ,(during the process i got an error which said "no space left on device"), every time that I try to start my device It'ill just stuck at boot screen.what can I do ?
ps:can't get to recovery.
Before flash while you're at CWM do wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache and reflash cm.
I cannot Access recovery mode.!
ps:When ever I press sound down key + power It turns on(but not lcd)and charge led gets green(sth like falsh mode)
If you still can't get to Recovery after many tries, I'd advice you flash RUU... If you are S-OFF great, if not, no problem. When you are done, you can get your Root back with SimpleOneClick (My fav).

Its not bricked if theres still life in the phone, a brick is a device that does absolutely nothing.

I mean software bricked, the device can end up in loop which is unrecoverable.
Like when radio flashing is interrupted.

Your mobile is stuck in boot loop always without entering Recovery.
It is rooted but you cannot enter Recovery.
I hope somebody has a solution to your problem since you had rooted it and it has CWM Recovery earlier.
I am not sure if somebody got out of this problem, will reply if I get to know a method.
If the phone gets past the splash screen and gets to the bootanimation, you can use ADB to go into the Recovery.
Use the command
"adb reboot recovery"

Do you know what version of CWM you're running? There were a few versions that hung on the 'htc' screen and would take a few reboots to fully boot.

If you can get into hboot , or able to see 'adb devices' show your device you may be able to type:
adb reboot recovery
and cause it to reboot into recovery from your terminal if you are finding difficulties with using the button method.
The splash is sometimes indicative that you don't have a rom installed at all (i.e.: if you did a clean wipe and such), but worse case scenario, you don't have recovery installed either in which case you may have to install it via fastboot (at the bootloader screen)

can you give any link to do that or something else.. i really need it. im newbie dont know anything
and i use android speeddaemon fantasia rom..
adb (android debugging bridge)is an executable program for a pc (or linux or apple) to communicate with your android phone. it is unlikely adb will work if you cant even access your hboot but you can try.
if you rooted your phone yourself than you should have the drivers installed and adb.exe also installed on computer, along with knowledge on how to use it.
if you didnt/dont have it, google android sdk for the package, and google adb for dummies (or something like that) for more instructions if the sdk doesnt provide you with enough.
but like i said it is unlikely to work and if you want any chance of fixing your phone i suggest logging onto freenode to get real time help
anyway thanks.. i have resolved my problem with battery pull first and then press vol down + power button

If that was your fix, you most likely have the buggy CWM version. Update your CWM recovery to the latest version or flash 4ext recovery (which I've never heard of hanging like that)

[Q] Hard Bricked One XT with broken HBOOT

Hello,
I have a One XT (s720t), the China Mobile carrier version of One X. After I installed CWM Recovery 6.0.1.5 and do a nandroid backup of the official rom, I flashed a custom rom. Everything went fine, the new rom worked properly except the mobile network(CMCC use it's own TDSCDMA network). So I tried to restore the original rom with CWM. Guess what? The game is up, rebooted and stuck at splash. It could not jump out of bootloop, power + volume down button did not bring me to HBOOT but reboot again which means I could not use fastboot to recover it!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone knows what's the problem? Thanks for any suggestion.:crying::crying::crying:

and the problem is that you didn't HOLD the power button and volume down properly
Hi Vcek, thanks for your reply. But I'm not a newbie for rooting devices and flashing rom. I do hold the power and vol down button properly just as I root it and use CWM to backup original rom before.

HTC ONE X [Please Help]

I'll prequel all of this by stating that I am a complete noob to the Android. After reading the stickies to this forum (correct me if I'm wrong), flashing the device sounds promising, but I don't know if that solution is even applicable to my problem. I'm worried I've completely bricked my HTC One X. Any help would be greatly appreciated and here's everything I can tell you about the situation.
The phone is an HTC One X Endeavor. When turned on, it shows the boot screen (HTC-quietly brilliant). Holding the power and the down volume buttons reveals the bootloader menu. The phone is unlocked and the problem occurred after an attempt to root the device. When I plug it into my computer I hear the sound that signals I've connected a new device, but under My Computer it brings up a CD drive, which can't be browsed.
If I pull up the bootloader menu while it is plugged into my laptop, this text comes up on the screen briefly:
checking sd card update
sd checking
failed to open usb master mode
loading pj46img.zip
failed to open usb master mode
please plug off usb
After running through that it just goes to HBOOT. I can still access FASTBOOT and all that, but nothing seems to work. Is there any way to revive my HTC?
Sorry for the noobishness, I've been on an iPhone for the last few years and have only had my HTC for a couple of weeks (love, love Android and never looking back). So I'm really hoping there's a way to recovery my beloved HTC.

Always the case, eh? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, I'll give this a try and come back with the (hopefully successful) results.
When I try to install the HTCDriver.exe nothing happens when I click on the .exe and I have tried this on two separate laptops, one on Windows XP and the other running Windows 7. I also sought out and tried installing HTCDriver_4.2.0.001.exe to the same results. When I click on it, the hourglass appears for a moment then disappears. I've tried running both as Administrator and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Thanks! I've done this. HTC Sync Manager was already installed so I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. This solved the problem. I was able to flash over TWRP and now I am on the screen that lists Install, Backup, Wipe, Restore, etc. BUT my touch screen isn't working and I can't select any of the options. Also tried the volume buttons on the off chance, but that doesn't work either. Grr! Seems to be one problem after another.
~edit~ I tried flashing clockwork over and it says that it can't load /Recoveries/CWM.img and I also should have mentioned sooner that the three buttons at the bottom of my screen do not work. Hoping this doesn't effect the process.

I've flashed Philz Touch Recovery using this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634786
Now when I boot my phone it goes to Philz Touch Recovery. I made a back up just in case. I tried recovering and it just boots back to Philz after turning it off and back on so I'm assuming I'm missing a step here. Using Automated Fastboot I selected "install boot.img" to flash over Philz and then I installed CWM also using the same program. I can access CWM by launching RECOVERY in HBOOT, but uh I am kind of at a loss for what to do next. I think the next step would be to get a stock rom and flash that over, but before I do that I would like to be certain it isn't going to fudge up the phone even more.
Also, thank you all for your assistance and patience! :victory:
~edit~ I was able to install SuperSU.zip if that makes any difference, but again when I turn on the phone it goes straight to Philz and I can access CWM in recovery.
Should I Wipe Data/Factory Reset?

I flashed over Philz Touch Recovery and replaced my boot.img. Then installed CWM so basically I am booting up a recovery and there's a recovery in recovery... Yeah. Brilliant thinking (not).
You only have one recovery, when you flash a recovery it replaces the old one automatically. Follow the link and download the latest Odexed stock Rom and boot.img>>>>>http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
reflash philz recovery then mount usb storage from recovery and copy over the stock Rom you downloaded from the link above.
Go into fastboot and flash the boot.img you just downloaded from the link then back to recovery and install the rom
