Notification tones messed up... - Defy General

I put a few short mp3 tones into a notification folder in memory card.
Next I check in phone settings - sound - notification, found all the mp3 tones I put earlier. Work well.
Then by mistake I edited the notification folder(capitalise them). Next I found out my notification listing two of the same tone on every each of them, one can play and another one just playing system tone.
Tried renaming back the folder but still having two same mp3 name in my notification listing under settings.
Anyway I can delete sound.db to refresh the notification settings..?

[Q] Ringtone, Alarm, Notification Hierarchy?

I had this set on my sdcard at one point, but i know you can set the R.A.N. hierarchy to where it will allow you to choose from any mp3 you have in the bottom folder of the hierarchy.
I think it's /sdcard/media/ringtones/alarms/notifications/*.mp3
but if i'm wrong can someone please correct me...
I don't know about that method but rings extended in the market lets you use any mp3 you want for notifications, alarms, and ringtones

Gmail notification

Anyone know how to take an MP3 from the SD card and be able to use it with Gmail as the notification tone?
same thing with Text messaging?
This should do it.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ringdroid&feature=search_result
Ive got it trimmed down and made.. but it wont give me an option to use it in gmail or in my message settings
Put it in /sdcard/media/audio/notifications
You can also make ringtones and alarms directories for ringtones and alarms.

I do it with es file explorer. Just hold down the song with a longpress and multiple options appear.

I figured it out...
the easiest way is to make folders in your SD card called ringtones and notifications.
by doing that they will show up in the selection boxes

How to make custom default ring tones?

So I have a few customer ring tones that I transfered over from my EVO 4G. They are in the Mp3 format and I am able to set the ring tone on an individual level, but I cant set it as a default ringtone.
So how does one set a customer ringtone that is an MP3 as the default ringtone?
Notifications as while?
Much Obliged for all of your help in advance.
Go to settings, then sound. You'll be able to set phone ringtone as well as notification ringtone.
I should have said that I have already tried that. There is no option that lets me pick the sounds that are on my SD card.
For example when I go into my contacts list and go to ringtone, there is three options, Default Ringtone, Select sounds from My Files and Phone Ringtone.
Now when I go to Sounds it just gives me a bunch of generic sound files. Nothing from my selection.
you just move the sound file to the /media folder using any file manager app. Then it should show up in the list of sounds when you set your ringtone. The same steps can be done for notification sounds. If you're confused, there's plenty of youtube video tutorials showing you step by step information.
I do it this all the time, I create custom ringtones with Audacity (cut out the chorus and fade the track in and out so it sounds cleaner). Right now I have the Jetsons door bell as my notification sound
Just a wild guess that you didn't put your custom ringtones in the proper file location on your SD card.
You need to create a folder called "media" (no quotes). Inside that folder create a folder called "audio". Inside that folder create 3 separate folders called "alarms", "notifications" and "ringtones".
Place your custom ringtones in the ringtones folder, reboot (not sure if that's necessary) and your customs will show up.
.....
Thanks alot guys. That was exactly my problem, I did not have the media folder.
Wasn't exactly sure where it should have gone so I used ringdroid to create another Ringtone and it place the media folder along with the Ringtone folder on my SD card.
Always amazes me how simple a problem can be resolved if you have one price of information.
Thanks again. You are the best.

DO I have to have the same ringtones on all the folders so I can place custom ringtones in say text email etc..?
thanks
if not where are the text ringtones located at? I did a search by name and nothing came up though I have ring tones to choose from
thank you again
You can always download RINGDROID from the market. It lets you "trim" your mp3's and set them as default/contact ring tone or notification.
So far that is the best way I found to work in my phone.

Custom Alarm tone?

Is there a way to load your own tones for the LG clock app? I put tones in both the notification folder and alarm folder, and none of them show up when I go to change the alarm tone. Is there any way to do this or do I need to find another app?
I use Alarm Extreme Pro (there is a free version too) and have since my skyrocket days. Can customize any tones you want.

Which audio format are you using?
I have several files I use for ringtone and alarm; I simply put them into external SD and they all show up.
They are .mp3 and .wav files.

They are mp3 and wma files, and none show up. Do you put them in a specific folder, or are you selecting "music" when you select alarm tone so you have to go through all music on your card?
I'm used to my old galaxy phone where I could put specific files into the notification folder and then those are right there when I go to select from tones.

I use the same. Custom tones and ability for fade in of tones is clutch.

Yep, my ringtones show up when I want to select a ringtone for the phone, but for alarm, nothing. I have tones in alarm, notification and ringtone, but nothing. I also tried searching for some of the default ringtones so if I could find if there was another location, but there was nothing. I guess I'll have to load them into my music folder and just select them from there.

FYI, my custom alarm tones are in a custom folder named
/external_SD/media/audio
and they are .WAV and .MP3, but I am using the same SD card since the last three mobile phones therefore I suppose that the file location should not be an issue.

What worked, thanks to previous post above mine (lit the candle in my head)
Internal folder/switch/storage/emulated/0/alarms
(also, previous phone was encrypted, that might explain the emulated/0 folders)
The key was finding the "Switch" folder since I had switched from Sony, to Samsung, to finally LG.
I used the folder "search feature" to see details (path) of one of my other ringtones I had on my old phone that are still available.
I copied the new ringtones into the same folder, and it appeared.
Sorry to post in old post, but it was in top 10 results in Google, and the post that helped the most.
