Hi, is it necessary or recomanded to do a full wipe before restore a rom with clockworkMod??
Yes, full factory wipe and cache and don't forget the Dalvik-Cache in advanced settings. D-C wipe might be overkill but once in a while I see Market issues and wiping Dalvik-Cache should help prevent them.
Necessary, because if you do the restore of the nandroid backup of Coredroid on MIUI ( exemple ) you going to have some issues
thanks, loud and clear

So I have a quick question for everyone here.
Is there anything else I need to do to clear all remnants of an existing ROM from my phone other than factory reset/wipe data and wipe cache before installing another ROM?
I seem to have residual bugs from a previous ROM on my current ROM. Maybe it's kernel related? I don't know. Any advice?
Edit: Gah. Sorry wrong forum. Please move.
Try wiping dalvik cache from recovery. Its in the advanced tab i believe.

What i usually do is go into the partitions menu and format data / system / cache, and then i go into advanced and format dalvik cache, and then i go to the main screen and do format data factory reset and then format cache... i do all those twice so its 100% gone absolutely nothing lingering around

Awesome. Thanks guys. I'll give that a whirl.
I have been checking the box in ROM Manager to clean cache and wipe when flashing new Roms
and then ... ?
After all this is done, and the new ROM flashed, what can one restore from Titianium Backup without restoring incompatible/bad stuff? Thanks

Don't restore system data, especially if you're going from a 2.1 rom to a 2.2 rom.
I always just restore user apps and data.
Id like to try viper 2.2 rom currently im on stock with lost kernel. If I flash viper rom should my cwm 5.0.2.3 restore to stock just fine from my nand backup..?
Any certain measures to take prior to restore..? Or just data / dalvic cache wipe?

yup as long as you made a backup prior to flashing viper
you can go back without issue
i normally format system and cache and wipe davlik.
or factory reset wipe cache and davlik for a full restore (apps too)
the nand is a complete system dump including all apps and everything so you can do a nand restore of everything but data which is your installed apps to keep anything you downloaded since then if you dont wipe data
or just do a full nand install and it'll put on just whatever apps you prev had
I went through a few guides about restoring from NANDROID backup, but all of them didn't mention about Wipe Data/Factory Reset or Wipe Cache etc. So I'm curious and don't know what to do now. Do I need to wipe?
Yes.

This? In the steps there's no wiping. So if you confirm to me here I need to wipe, I'll listen. So the answer is yes or no? And if yes, do I need to wipe cache?
Read the guide in post#7.
Yes to wipe.

It's always recommended to wipe to get a clean environment, especially if you want to restore to another ROM than the one you are currently on, you should wipe then Restore NAND.
Wiping is recommended, but often times I don't (just don't come screaming if things happen )
When you restore a ROM, all your existing system information is overwritten, so it shouldn't be an issue. Sometimes if the ROM you're restoring from doesn't contain a certain partition (like dalvik cache), but the ROM you're on right now and changing from does, you can get issues, since there's no dalvik cache to replace.
That's how I understand it at least.
This is what I do when I install a new ROM
I Use 4EXT Recovery Touch
Step 1:- backup | restore --> Backup
Step 2:- wipe | format --> wipe data/factory reset --> wipe cache --> wipe dalvik
Step 3:- install from sdcard --> choose zip from sdcard
Step 4:- full wipe
That's it.....

I stand corrected. It seems one doesn't have to manually wipe when restoring a backup. At least in 4ext it is done automatically. I'll be taking a look at it later and edit this post if I'm wrong. Just in case

yes do all for the cleanest install, I only do this if switching ROMs, or a developer tells you too in his updated thread. Some do it after every update. Basically I just overwrite old ROM with new update, which doesn't erase your data(always wipe dalvik and cache prior to doing this). Wiping data erases everything you've done to the newly installed ROM. Sometimes not doing a clean install even from the same ROM update can cause issues with certain apps that are reading your data. I had this issue with one app last update to jellybomb jb ROM.
Assuming you mean factory reset when u say wipe data. If u actually choose the "wipe data" option it will wipe internal sd.
But yes all 3 should be wiped, however factory reset usually wipes cache and dalvik-cache too. So factory reset by itself should do just fine
Can someone tell me the best order to do the wipe cache and the other stuff before restoring stock rom backup via cwm?
First of all, flash the right kernel for stock via fastboot... I suggest titanium kiss then:-
Recovery>wipe data/factory reset>restore backup which u want to do...
no need to wipe cache and dalvik?
Wipe data/factory reset will do all...
