[Q] Cant find CWM backup... - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted and flashed my epic with CWM and everything went fine, but i can seem to find the original backup. i checked on the sd card for the directory /sdcard/sd/clockwork or something similar and i cannot find it. could it be that cwm did not make my backup even though i went through the proper steps? Ive also checked in random places on the sd scard and still cannot find it. i would like to locate it before i go flashing a bunch of crap and end up needing it.

I didnt see you actually say you made a backup, only that you installed cwm, which does not make a backup when first installed. So if you did make a backup it should be in sdcard/clockwork/backup.

it doesnt make a backup before it converts the file system? i saw during the process it said that it was making a backup and storing it as a certain file name if something was to go wrong.
and now my damn phone is stuck in a reboot loop after running SRF 1.1.0 flawlessly for several hours. this is just getting worse and worse...

No that's just an initial backup and restore to convert your filesystem. Just boot into clockwork... Wipe data/cache/dalvik 3X each, and reflash the rom.

Improper shutdowns on no journal ROMs. Wait for vibration before pulling battery. When converting to EXT4 CWM does indeed make a backup called beforeext4 which can be used to go back to RFS if something fails. It is stored on your sd card in the clockwork folder under backup I believe. That stays on unless you manually delete it.
Do you BONSAI?

whats weird is that when searching through the sd after the first flash, there was no "clockwork" folder on it. after this second flash, one is there now, but there are no backup files in it. should i go ahead and run a backup now?

Yeah if you're phone is working properly go ahead and boot into clockwork and do a backup. You should then see the backup in the folder once it's done backing up. It'll be a bunch of numbers (the date and time of the backup I think)

I forgot all about the b4ext4 backups,I guess thats just another case of cwm not working right (which is pretty rare).

How come Nandroid backups never work for me?!

I do a nandroid backup... the whole process finishes.. Then I go to restore to it.. And it brings me back to a FRESH install of whatever Rom I backed up. It's done this to me now with Baked Snack and CM6

I've never used Clockwork so I'm afraid I can't really give you much insight. I might suggest taking 15 min and installing one of the AmonRA recoverys. I've used them since I had a MT3G and they seem to be pretty flawless. As long as you store your backups on your SD card you shouldnt really be at risk of losing anything. Does Clockwork allow you to make and store multiple backups?
Clockwork works just fine for me. I'm not sure what your problem might be.
i use Amon Ra and i have been having the same issue lately, kinda...when i go to restore a nand backup it gives me an error message saying to push it adb style or sumthing along those lines...very frustrating ...kinda lost too for me...any one have any ideas what the problem is ? using FrEakEfroyo v2 with king#6

Have you, by any chance, renamed your backups? If you have, you CAN'T have any spaces in the name. If you named it the full version of what you're running it would have to be FrEakEfroyo_v2_with_king#6

Your problem most likely is that your battery is too low. Happened to me several times usually if the battery is below 30% or there abouts. Plug your phone in, juice it up and try with at least 50 % battery, should work.
Or, I've heard it can happen if you renamed your backups. I never rename my backups because I've heard it can cause issues like this, so I can't tell you for sure if that's the problem.
I'm guessing battery.
This is really getting frustrating. I did a nandroid backup last night of my Baked Snack install. I then wiped and installed CM6. 5 minutes later I had a problem and restored Baked Snack. And it went right back to a fresh install of Baked Snack. I then flashed AmonRA. Installed CM6. Setup CM6 how I wanted it. Did a nandroid backup in AmonRA. Then wiped and restored it. And I was right back to a fresh install again.

Amon Ra- 2.3 Nandroid Recoveries Won't Boot

I've searched other threads but they were lacking so I thought Id try for the evo. I like many others am addicted to flashing roms. I make backups and restore and they complete fine. When I go to boot a restore it gets to the boot animation and just keeps cycling the boot animation. It seems to happen across different roms. I tried doing a complete factory restore with an pc36img re-rooted and found I'm still having the same issue. Any ideas? Thanks for the help.
You didn't make any changes to the file?
I chanaged to folder name, but this never used to be a problem. I use root explorer or plug in the phone usb mass storage, rename the folder that holds the backup. I don't usually have a problem. But it seems to be a constant problem now.
When you renamed did you put spaces or all together? Make sure there are no spaces.

re-rename them, but you can't use spaces. Periods, hyphens, and underscores are fine though.
Also remember to wipe cache and dalvik after restoring, and give it a good ten minutes to do the initial boot.
i just do simple rename like rom04, no spaces or dashes, it says it restores it, I don't know if I wipe the dalvick after the restore, I'll try that.
Were your backups made with the same recovery you're trying to restore them with?
Your post implies you're not using an evo, in which case I dunno what recovery you're using, and thus how to help troubleshoot. More info.

I have an evo and all my backups and restores come from the same recovery which is amon-ra 2.3. I've tried formatting my sdcard and then restoring. Last night I did a restore and went to bed while it was booting, I woke up later in the night and the phone was dead. I'm beginning to wonder if there is something wrong in the phone. It's a replacement phone I got about three weeks ago, but I was able to do restores/backups that were fine. It just started all of a sudden that it won't boot after recovery says it restore complete. The phone has some speaker issues and every time and place or recieve a call it starts on speaker phone. Unless someone has other ideas. I did rename the file after the inital rename. No luck. Any other ideas, other then whats already been mentioned above?
are you trying to restore backups you made with your previous phone?? like copied them off the sd card to computer, got new phone, copied onto new phones sd card, and tried to restore?...if so thats not a good idea
No same phone, I got a replacement about 3 weeks ago, I did backups and restores with no issues. I didn't change anything or do anything different I would normally due. Its a new issue. The restore was made and restored from the same phone and the same sd card.
Didn't work door me either , I made a recovery and about 1 hr later tried to recover but for some reason it didn't work .

1 for 5
Well, Insanity is repeating the same thing over and over expecting different results, needless to say I tried restoring again from a fresh restore of king coco. Low and behold it worked this time. Here's what I did
Full wipe including system, restore, wipe dalvick, reboot. It actually booted in like 4 minutes. This might be a localized incident, as you know I have to keep tempting fate and continue the insanity.....
Anyone got a fix for that ?
Sent From One BadAss Evo On Mikfroyo 4.5 Steroids Via XDA App ;-)
I think the corruption occurs because of a mismatch in the caches after the restore vs when the backup was done.
That is, normally neither cache nor dalvik cache is wiped when a backup is performed. Depending on your setup with a2sd and possible other tweaks like moving the cache, some portions may get backed up.
So, two solutions.
1) do a cache/dalvik cache wipe before doing the backup
or
2) do a cache/dalvik cache wipe after doing the restore, but before the initial boot
Thx ;-)
I will make a new nand backup & gonna wipe the cache/dalvik before .
Will I still need to wipe after the restore?

I personally never wipe before or after making a backup/restore. But no, you don't need to wipe after restoring, since it restored the old cache.

It's good to have a couple backups with the 'wimax' included. That backs up your RSA keys, and includes that in the backup when you have that checked off. It's recommended to have a good backup of your wimax.img in a safe place, preferably on your pc somewhere. That way if you ever lose your RSA keys for 4g, you'll have a backup of them. Other than that, just the 3 that are checked is all that's necessary. You don't need to backup the wimax every time if you don't want to, as long as you have a good backup of them somehwere.

Hey Guys...HELP WITH "APP2SD" PLEASE !!!!

Hey whats up guys?
so......Im not really new here guys, But i am new to APP2SD....i partitioned my card for the KINGDOM ROM which turned out to be really cool. Everything went GREAT with the partition, I followed VIRUS direction to the "T".......now i deleted all my old backups because i was told that some files may be corrupt and what not, so i made 2 backups of the B3 ROM from virus.....to try to make a long story short, when i restore one or the other of the backups i have, the APPS that required ROOT, tells me they cant find ROOT>....and believe me...im ROOTED LOL.....im not that lost.....i was even given a command for TE......"app2sd--cachesd"......and the PERMISSION WERE DEINED ACCROSS THE BOARD......now i can get to the titanium backup's =main screen and it shows i have APP2SD= 1.91mb........so im guess the app2sd isnt installing the apps onto my SDcard...im not sure if i have to move every app to my SDcard myself...not sure if that the issues....but to me something sounds wrong....ya know, ive deleted all the apps and re-installed them....i even installed them from amazon...NO GO....so if i RE-Flash, the apps will work...cause i setup my phone with TB.....but its after when i RESTORE my backup, that everything goes screwy...ohh and i am backing up SDtext.....and wiping it if i flash another ROM or restore a differnet backup.......Cant really find any info on anyne having this same problem....This is the first time im actually making my first thread so go easy on me LOL......thanks alots guys...I really appreciate it...
EDIT:.....ohh and all my apps sometimes show up in SU and they are allowed.....and SU is updated

I'm not sure I quite follow you, but, if you have the time, try this: after you've gotten your rom setup how you like it, reboot into recovery. Hopefully, you're using amon RA v2.3 as your recovery. If so, go to the wipe menu and wipe the cache & dalvik. After that, go to the backup/restore menu and, in addition to what is already selected to be backed up, select sdext and .android.secure. now create the backup and afterwards, reboot. Now to test it out, for back into recovery, wipe EVERYTHING in the wipe menu EXCEPT the SD card and then go to the backup/restore menu and restore the backup you just made. If using amon RA, the name of the backup *should* have a BSDEA beginning or something to that extent. Afterwards, reboot. Your system *should* restore back to the way it was without any problems.

It will be automatically activated if whichever Rom you are flashing had it cooked into it
If it's not cooked into the ROM, then it must be activated ( by flashing the script via recovery, i think....) Sorry, in kinda new to aa2sd too

Well backup the rom; make sure you have at least 500mb free space. Do a full wipe [factory/data, cache, dalvik cache], flash the new rom. Make sure you have more space, because the sense 2.1/3.0 can be big in backup size.
What happens when you try to flash another Rom?

I get stuck at the HTC evo 4g screen just stays white and wont boot I have wiped it numerous times and I get the same result never happend until I flashed the 1.2 stable I also did flash the vipermod and Google apps as well as available memory mod I found I had used that multiple times before as well
Wipe everything 3x, use Virus's CR super wipe after you manually wipe everything. Factory wipe, cache and delvik cache. That should clear everything out. Then flash a Rom. It sounds like something isn't getting wiped.

If I were you, I'd backup my SD Card, format it, repartition it, if you're using partitions, and then copy the essentials back over. Specifically, you're nandroid folder, then reflash your Recovery, which hopefully, is Amon Ra.
Then either try to reflash one of your nandroids, although if it was me, I'd just copy the ROM you want first, and then try to flash that, and it if goes well, try a nandroid you have saved.
I've had this happen twice and both times, reflashing recovery did the trick
Alright ill try thanks alot everyone I appreaciate your help ill get back to you guys hopefully with good news
Well so there's no way I could just wipe it with recovery and flash it over cause apparently I'm not the only one with this issue and somebody said it has to do with partitions of my SD card I'm trying to look into it deeper.

You don't have to partition it; first reflash your recovery via PC36IMG image, then copy your sdcard to a pc, format it, then copy the files back over, try to restore a backup, or reflash the rom.

[Q] Can't format/wipe after Bamboozle

I have CWM 3.1, and ever since I installed the Bamboozle ROM, I get "E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2" when attempting to wipe/reset. I'm not blaming the ROM at all, I might have just missed something.
Yes I've tried google. I've also tried backing up my sdcard, formatting it (fat32) and restoring. I've tried UNrooting and RE rooting even. Also tried a different SD. I'm stumped. Any ideas?
Are you trying to wipe the SD card, or the phone, it looks like the SD card from your post, but I was unsure

Trying to wipe/reset the phone in CWM like before installing any ROM when I get the error. I wiped the SD card in attempt to resolve as suggested by someone.
I'm wondering if removing or replacing "mmcblk0p2" would do anything?

Thats because acs roms look to restore a backup they make, or a previous acs rom made. Delete the ACSBackup folder on your sd.
I get this error too. Doesn't seem to actually effect anything.

I ran bamboozle twice, once with journaling off ... day and a half later, random reboots. went back to midnight 5.3 ec05 for a few then back to bamboozle and I flashed journalingon zip directly after flashing the rom ... it was awesome.
no issues at all, I have been trying eg22 to see if it was just ef02 with the cell standby again, but eg22 does it as well. just have to wait for release
guess I got lucky. I've read quite of few people that had that issue, wonder if it was only coming from an ACS rom to Bamboozle. I wasn't on an ACS rom before hand.
