[SOLVED] Removing D.I. (Digitally Imported) Radio banner ads - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using DI Radio as of late and noticed that banner ads are still being displayed. I'm on SFR 1.1.0 so I have that default hosts file blocking ads. What would be the easiest way to go about finding the url to the ad server for this application?
From there I can easily update the hosts file.

Have not downloaded Adfree. I honestly forgot about that, other than using it to revert ad blocking. I'll give it a go and report back.

Awesome, it worked like a charm. I should have remembered that app after reading all of the nearly 1k page ACS thread, lol. An earned thanks for you.

My opinion is that adfree doesnt work well because the hosfile it uses is originally created for windows, not for android so many ads still appear like admob etc. Im using this one, works flawlessly on my device

I think u should check your title before posting, root explorer is an app which is required for it and which is also not free in market, and adfree is a better choice as it is available for free.

Theres plenty of other filemanager with root capability and free in market. He just suggesting using root explorer, but not stated anywhere thats its nesessary to use it. Just use other instead.
btw his hostfile is also free, compared to adfree which in my opinion is pretty useless in android because it uses hostfile originally created for windows. Bunch of ads still appear if using adfree.

well then, we can just use adb to push that hostfile to our device. then again, adb is an app too. maybe we can just shove that file to our device using just our plain hands.

More number of entries doesn't mean better service..overtime many hosts become obsolete..what matters is how updated they are.
Anyways, updated the OP with more hosts.
Updated OP.
Added hosts to block:
Porn Sites
Casino Sites
Risky Sites
With this, I can download through adf ly .... that is good for me and thanks to you.
OP, why is it installed in /system ?? Shouldn't it be /system/etc?

host file in attachments
sorry cant posts links ... have not enough posts
Updated the hosts file to include 230000 more hosts!
LOL, OK so now I guess we got pretty much AdFree's host, but without AdFree ^^
Just use AdAway from the Play Store (req. root). Works great for me, didn't see a single ad on my device since installation.
P.S
If you, even occasionally press on ads, don't use things like that - click on ads and support the developers, just if you never, ever click on ads install it. The devs need your support.

Download Ad-Free Android here: http://ge.tt/8vSwPBb/v/0?c
1) Move the APK to the android phone
2) on a file explorer go to where you stored the APK and install it
3) Run it, and give it superuser permissions.

Does adfree even work as of now? I heard they just stopped developing the app and is no longer maintained. Adaway and minminguard are better "up-to-date" alternatives.

Interesting, I may give it a try and see. Last time I ran it, like a year ago, it was not even connecting to the server to get the list and one of the threads here had a bunch of people with the same problem. Does it allow you to specific custom hosts list sources?
AdAway is *much* better than AdFree in every aspect. It is open source, one can get it from FDroid.
And, for severely annoying cases of ad overkill, this is pretty much the best method on a per-app basis: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50576062&postcount=26

I've found that Adaway is a waste of time and doesn't block all in app ads. I only use adfree and it works perfectly

There is no difference in how they block, only in the sources, they both add entries to the hosts file. The only advantage adaway has is that you can set your own host sources, thus in theory, you can block many more ads than adfree can. But by default, adfree's host source indeed does block more than adaway's. Or at least it did 8 months ago when I used adfree. If you can find the host source url of adfree, you could even use it in adaway as a source.
Thank You!
I used Google Drive to download and do the install.
FYI...There were a few more steps about adding host files and registering AdFree at BigTinCan.com
Then I needed to reboot and Ads were all gone from the apps.
Thanks again!

Best Ad Blocker for Rooted/Rom'd users?

Hey guys,
Nexus 5X running Pure Nexus, rooted. Was wondering what was the best adblocker that resolves all issue?
I tried MinMinGuard and it's great, but it doesn't block Chrome ads, which are possibly the most annoying. I don't want to install a different browser.
I also installed AdAway and it royally messed up my browsing. It didn't block ads, and it made web browsing severely slow. Took me a while to rectify that...
So, best AdBlocker? I have Xposed, can flash a .zip, am rooted...
Thanks!!
Try Moab. available as a flashable zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916098
Have you tried AdGuard?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/adguard-ad-blocker-doesnt-require-root-t2958895
I like AdAway.

+1 for AdAway

Have you thought about just using a hosts file? I use MVPS Host's file on everything. Direct link to the hosts file. I just don't see a reason to have an app installed and running if I can load a hosts file every other month that seems to work pretty well for me.

That has to be the largest hosts file I've ever come across. The problem is it's not being actively maintained, it's just a huge list that's being thrown together, and not being checked. If you grab domains out of there at random, you'll find many are no longer active, and are available, which means they don't need to be in there. Which means they are just taking up space, memory, and slowing things down.

adaway uses the hosts file and updates it automatically whenever theres an update to the sources. it also allows to add your own sources to the preset list.
adlock, maybe
i use that tool and i think that it's very useful tool, better than adblocker as for me

adaway doesn't work on pie

Hey,
I activated the magisk module for systemless hosts, but since Android pie it's not working for me.
Any ideas?

Yes, adaway actually replaces the hosts file on my phone, so I think the problem is related to magisk.

What makes you think it's "replacing" the hosts file? The hosts file will appear to be overwritten, but in a systemless install, it's sym linked over the/etc/hosts file.

I looked in the /system/etc folder and the hosts file is a lot bigger than before, so I thought it's actually overwritten.
I just found out that ads are not blocked in only one WiFi.
The WiFi uses a proxy, is it possible that that's the reason why I still get ads?
On all other networks (WiFi/mobile data) ads are blocked.

Yes, based on your description, the proxy is probably the problem.
