Can anyone tell me what this circle icon with a slash at the one o' clock position means (third from the left)? This just appeared out of the blue 2 days ago and doesn't disappear, even if I restart the phone. I have checked whether any new strange have appeared but can't see anything out of the ordinary.
If I pull down the notification bar, I don't see any app associated with this, it's just empty really. I check the HTC Desire HD Manual as well and unless I missed it, this icon is not mentioned there.
Any ideas?
strange, never seen it before...might be some third party App, causing it to appear.
Are you using a custom theme/ROM? If not, I'd guess it's almost definitely put in there by a third-party app, it doesn't look like it matches with the rest of the HTC/Android icons.
It looks like a power off button to me.
Have you try playing with that icon?
Hi, it was the Power Control Plus Widget! I found out after killing the apps one by one Thanks for your help.

So s2u2 has a ton of settings! It has taken a long time to get everything set up close to how I would like it...the clock, taskbar icons, notifications, date, etc. The thing is, my WM screen already is set up with all this stuff, and I like it a lot better! Is there any way to just keep it showing rather than recreating the whole thing and overlaying it with S2U2? Like a program that just adds the slide bar over the bottom of your screen and locks everything down until you slide a bar? I've been searching for something like this for months now...have probably installed 15 different lock-screen options, but haven't found one like this yet, so I figured I would post and see if anyone has come across something like this.
Or maybe a way to make everything in S2U2 invisible/transparent except the slide bar?
Hi,
I'm using stock ROM and stock messaging app and have selected in the options not to display the name or content if new messages in status bar but it doesn't work and still displays it!!
Any ideas please?

Is it any surprise I'm getting rid of my one x literally less than one week after buying...have been quite disappointed with the one x and 52 people read this without any response or confirm if they have a similar issue or not...it would have took 30-60 seconds!
Should have stuck to Samsung's...we'll unfortunately I've already sold my s2 so i guess it'll have to be the new beast s3...
Thanks to those a few that did help on a few things but generally the one x forum is a little cold for me compared to the Samsung just like the HTC phones!

The problem you posted is a little obscure, I've not seen it mentioned in any other threads, perhaps nobody has come across the same issue yet? If people don't know what the answer is then they won't post. The fact that it had so many views and not one response suggests that this is the case and it's not a case of the forum posters ignoring you.

Are you talking about the option Messages--->Menu--->Settings--->Notifications-->Notification Preview, untick the option but the message will still be shown if you pull down the status bar??
From testing on my phone, when you untick the option, and get a text message...I get no preview on the lock screen, the message icon on the status bar (with no preview) but the message is there when you pull down the status bar. To truly get rid of it (no message in the pull down status bar) is to disable Received Notifications but that's counter productive as you get no alerts!
I will test on my Xperia Arc (when I get home from work) and see if it does the same (I have a funny feeling that it will do the same)
I beleive it maybe a generic Andorid thing in terms of messages appering on the pull down status bar (perhaps the more experienced guys and clarify)

Hi thanks that's correct...i still see the preview when you don't with the same settings!

It's not that no one has anything to say, it's that no one actually cares about the preview - it's MY phone so I want to see the messages. Do you share your phone? If not, it's a complete non-issue IMO

So you still see the preview on your lockscreen? Or in the status bar? Because that setting doesn't change the status bar preview, just the lockscreen one. But if in the Personalize settings you have the lockscreen type set to notifications preview, it'll show regardless of the messaging settings.

Use GO SMS Pro or Pansi SMS from the Play Store. They're far better then the default SMS app anyway, you'll find many more actually useful options along with your privacy setting, and they also have individual settings for specific contacts, so you can choose only messages from a certain contact to not show in the status bar, if that matters. Works both while using the phone and in the lock screen. The individual settings feature is included with GO SMS and is a plugin for Pansi SMS.
And don't be so impatient. It's not that everyone who reads a thread has to have an answer and reply. Don't go by how many views the thread has got and wait a day or two. There have been so many threads I've read for which I don't have an answer. It's not that people don't care, they'll most certainly help if they know how or have experienced the same thing. Almost everything can be solved, being impatient won't help. Similarly, why would you want to be hasty and get rid of such an awesome phone, that too over such a tiny issue? IMO, phones should only be returned if there's a problem hardware-wise. Not because of app-related problems or operating system problems. There is almost always an (often better) alternative for these things (apps & ROMs).

Hello, problem will remain if he keeps the stock app.
I had two notifications using handcent SMS.
I had to disable the notification from the stock app and only activate handcent notifications and it works perfectly now.
But the stock app is always living by its own without notifying me anything.
You have different notifications : mails, SMS, facebook, twitter, etc.
Which ones are still remaining ? SMS ? Mail ?
And then you also have the reports from sending SMS, this should be also disabled
or you will have receive reports for each SMS you send ...
My wife got a new Fire Phone running FireOS 4.6.6. I rooted it, installed Google Framework and Google Now launcher. At least most seems to be working quiet nice (still some things bug me, like Facebook not working, you can't install Amazon Underground, etc.). Concept of many things is nice - but often not brought to an end..
Now, I am stuck with a problem where I couldn't find an answer (at least not one I can accept, hehe).
When I receive a notification from e.g. Whatsapp or Telegram, it won't show up as a symbol in the notification bar. When I drag down the bar, I see the stuff like "Message received" etc. But it won't show me something when I am looking at my home screen or the lock-screen. Can't you see with just a short look that you've got a new message? Do I always have to pull down the notification bar?
Even system status messages aren't shown. When I connect the phone via USB to PC, a stock android shows me this neat little graphic that the connection is established. With FireOS - nothing
Read this thread here and tried this NotifierPro, Floatify, etc.
But it's not as small, fast and nice as the stock android thing.
The thread there is almost a year old, so has something changed lately? Any way to use the notifcation bar like I used to know?
Or maybe there is a nice Xposed module??
fire os does not support status bar notification's icons

What a pity..
Any way to achieve it with an Xposed module? I think the icons could be done in an overlay or something, or is this no alternative?
For the moment I am using Floatify.. I think it just takes some days to get used to it
Hide icons of running apps on the status bar? Is it possible to do this without rooting? I hate having to look at the spotify icon / whatsapp desktop and other apps icons on my status bar all the time, it looks so cluttered , I KNOW spotify it's running since the music is playing google, I'm not that stupid to know it's running in the background , if I want to look at my notifications, let's say I get an email, I'll slide down the notification bar , I don't need notifications being thrown at me all the time...

Does long pressing the notification in question not allow you to shut it off? Or am I misunderstanding your interpretation?
Press and hold the Settings icon Quick Settings for a while. You'll see a new section System UI Tuner, from. There you can turn on or off icon in the status bar area. You'll also now notice a wrench next to your settings icon in your quick setting area.
I hope this is what you're referring to.
You can also swipe right slowly and it will reveal a settings icon, tap there and turn off notification from just that app

If you do that you then silence all the notifications for that app , don't get me wrong I don't want to eliminate the notifications , I just want to eliminate the icons on the status bar .
Take a look at the picture I uploaded , see how the bar gets crowded with all those app icons from Spotify , the new York times apps etc ?
For what you're wanting, you'll need root.
Hi - I just set up a new S9 (AT&T). I installed my apps and went through some out of the box software updates so its now running 8.0.
Last night I noticed that when on my homescreen my Status Bar is now gone. It comes back if I open an app or go into the Apps drawer, but I cant see it from any page on my homescreen.
I can still swipe down from the top of the screen to get to the settings shortcuts, but I cant see Notifications, Battery, Signal, etc from any homescreen pages.
Its actually making me crazy - was hoping someone might have some thoughts on how to remedy this?
Thanks.
Hi after trying all morning I finally solved this - I found a lot of other posts outside XDA struggling with this issue so just wanted to update in case anyone else is having this problem.
I was using a picture as my wallpaper. For some reason this was making the bar invisible (or somehow the color changes to blend in to the background completely?). I changed to a Samsung stock wallpaper and it was visible again. I then changed back to set my picture as the wallpaper, and now the status bar is still visible...
Whatever - dont know why, but it worked!
